The covenant between God and David is remembered, so that God may deliver his people from present evils

1 I will sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.

2 For I have said, "Your lovingkindness shall be built up forever; you will establish your faithfulness in the heavens, saying,

3 I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant, 

"4 I will establish your descendants forever, and build up your throne to all generations."

5 The heavens will praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the saints.

6 For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who is like the Lord among the sons of the mighty?

7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and greatly to be revered by all who are around him. 

8 O Lord God Almighty, who is strong like you, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you?

9 You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.

10 You have broken Rahab as one slain; you have scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.

11 The heavens are yours, the earth is yours; the world and its fullness you have founded.

12 The north and the south you created; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.

13 You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, and high is your right hand.

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; mercy and truth go before your face.

15 Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound; they will walk, O Lord, in the light of your countenance. 

16 In your name they rejoice all the day, and in your righteousness they exalt themselves.

17 For you are the glory of their strength; and by your favor our horn will be exalted.

18 For the Lord is our defense, the Holy One of Israel is our King.

19 Then you spoke in vision of your Holy One, and said, "I have helped one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people."

20 I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my holy oil.

21 My hand will be established with him, and my arm will strengthen him.

22 The enemy will not vex him, nor will the son of wickedness afflict him.

23 I will beat down his enemies before him, and I will strike down those who hate him.

24 My faithfulness and my lovingkindness will be with him, and in my name his horn will be exalted. 25 I will set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

26 He will call upon me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

27 Therefore I will give him the place of the firstborn; I will make him higher than the kings of the earth.

28 My mercy I will maintain for him forever, and my covenant shall stand firm with him.

29 I will establish his offspring forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

30 If his children forsake my law and do not walk in my ordinances,

31 If they break my statutes and do not keep my commandments,

32 Then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

33 Yet I will not utterly take away my mercy from him, nor will I fail in my faithfulness. 

34 I will not break my covenant, nor alter the word that has gone out of my lips.

35 I have once sworn in my holiness that I will not lie to David.

36 His offspring will endure forever, and his throne will be like the sun before me;

37 He will be established forever like the moon, and the witness in heaven is faithful.

38 But you have rejected and hated him; you were wroth with your anointed.

39 You have abhorred the covenant of your servant; you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

40 You have broken down all his walls; you have destroyed his fortified buildings.

41 All who pass by him plunder him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors.

42 You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; you have made all his enemies rejoice. 

43 You have also blunted the edge of his sword, and have not sustained him in battle.

44 You have caused his splendor to cease, and cast his throne to the ground.

45 You have shortened the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame.

46 How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your anger burn like fire?

47 Remember how short my days are; why would you create all the children of men in vain?

48 What man is there who lives and does not see death? Or who delivers his soul from the power of the unseen world?

49 Lord, where are your former loving kindnesses, which you swore to David in your truth?

50 Remember, O Lord, the reproach of your servants; and how I bear in my bosom the scorn of all the mighty peoples: 

51 With which, O Lord, your enemies have slandered, with which they have slandered the steps of your anointed.

 52 Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen, and Amen.

3 Fiz um concerto com o meu escolhido; jurei ao meu servo Davi:

4 A tua descendência estabelecerei para sempre, e edificarei o teu trono de geração em geração.

5 E os céus louvarão as tuas maravilhas, ó Senhor, e a tua fidelidade também na assembléia dos santos.

9 Tu dominas o ímpeto do mar: quando as suas ondas se levantam, tu as fazes aquietar.

10 Tu quebrantaste a Raabe como se fora ferida de morte; espalhaste os teus inimigos com o teu braço poderoso.

11 Teus são os céus, e tua é a terra; o mundo e a sua plenitude tu os fundaste.

12 O norte e o sul tu os criaste; o Tabor e o Hermom regozijam-se em teu nome.

13 Tu tens um braço poderoso; forte é a tua mão, e elevada a tua destra.

14 Justiça e juízo são a base do teu trono; misericórdia e verdade vão adiante do teu rosto.

15 Bem-aventurado o povo que conhece o som festivo: andará, ó Senhor, na luz da tua face.

16 Em teu nome se alegrará todo o dia, e na tua justiça se exaltará.

17 Pois tu és a glória da sua força; e pelo teu favor será exaltado o nosso poder.

18 Porque o Senhor é a nossa defesa, e o Santo de Israel o nosso Rei.

19 Então em visão falaste do teu santo, e disseste: socorri um que é esforçado: exaltei a um eleito do povo.

20 Achei a Davi, meu servo; com o meu santo óleo o ungi:

21 Com ele a minha mão ficará firme, e o meu braço o fortalecerá.

22 O inimigo não o importunará, nem o filho da perversidade o afligirá.

23 E eu derrubarei os seus inimigos perante a sua face, e ferirei os que o aborrecem.

24 E a minha fidelidade e a minha benignidade estarão com ele; e em meu nome será exaltado o seu poder.

25 E porei a sua mão no mar, e a sua direita nos rios.

33 Mas não retirarei totalmente dele a minha benignidade, nem faltarei à minha fidelidade.

34 Não quebrarei o meu concerto, não alterarei o que saiu dos meus lábios.

35 Uma vez furei por minha santidade que não mentirei a Davi.

36 A sua descendência durará para sempre, e o seu trono será como o sol perante mim;

37 Será estabelecido para sempre como a lua: e a testemunha no céu é fiel.

38 Mas tu rejeitaste e aborreceste: tu te indignaste contra o teu ungido.

39 Abominaste o concerto do teu servo: profanaste a sua coroa, lançando-a por terra.

40 Derrubaste todos os seus muros; arruinaste as suas fortificações.

45 Abreviaste os dias da sua mocidade; cobriste-o de vergonha.

46 Até quando, Senhor? Esconder-te-ás para sempre? Arderá a tua ira como fogo?

47 Lembra-te de quão breves são os meus dias; por que criarias debalde todos os filhos dos homens?

48 Que homem há, que viva, e não veja a morte? Ou que livre a sua alma do poder do mundo invisível?

49 Senhor, onde estão as tuas antigas benignidades, que juraste a Davi pela tua verdade?

50 Lembra-te, Senhor, do opróbrio dos teus servos; e de como trago no meu peito o escárnio de todos os povos poderosos:

51 Com o qual, Senhor, os teus inimigos têm difamado, com o qual têm difamado as pisadas do teu ungido.

1 O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried out before you day and night.

2 Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry.

3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to the grave.

4 I am numbered with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength,

5 I am laid among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more; your hand has swept them away.

6 You have laid me in the lowest depths of the pit, in darkness and in the depths.

7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.

 8 You have removed my acquaintances from me; you have made me an abomination to him; I am shut in, and I cannot go out.

9 My eyes fail because of affliction. O Lord, I have cried to you all day long; I have spread out my hands to you.

10 Will you show wonders to the dead? Will the dead arise and praise you?

11 Will your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in destruction?

12 Will your wonders be known in darkness, or your righteousness in the land of oblivion?

13 But I, O Lord, cry out to you; in the morning I send my prayer to you.

14 O Lord, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?

15 I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth; when I suffer your terrors, I am troubled. 

16 Your fierce anger has passed over me; your terrors have destroyed me.

17 They surround me like waters all day long; they all surround me together.

18 You have removed my friends and companions far from me; my close friends have become darkness.

God delights in Zion

1 Its foundation is on the holy mountains.

2 The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

3 Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God.

4 I will mention Rahab and Babylon among those who know me; behold, of Philistia and Tyre and Ethiopia they will say, "This one was born there."

5 And of Zion they will say, "This one and that one were born there." And the Most High himself will establish her.

6 The Lord, when he makes a list of the peoples, will say, "This one was born there."

7 And the singers and players on instruments will sing, "All my springs are in you."

1 Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am needy and afflicted.

2 Preserve my soul, for I am holy, O my God; save your servant who trusts in you.

3 Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I cry to you all day long.

4 Make your servant's soul glad, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

5 For you, O Lord, are good and ready to forgive, and abundant in steadfast love to all who call on you.

6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer, and attend to the voice of my supplications.

7 In the day of my trouble I will cry to you, for you will answer me.

8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.

 9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord, and they will glorify your name.

10 For you are great and do wonders; you alone are God.

11 Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.

13 For great is your mercy toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 The proud have risen against me, O God, and the assemblies of the ruthless seek my life; they have not set you before their eyes.

15 But you, O Lord, are a God full of compassion and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and truth. 

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant and save the son of your handmaid.

17 Show me a sign for good, that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame, when you, O LORD, help and comfort me.

1 You have blessed your land, O Lord; you have restored the captivity of Jacob.

2 You have forgiven the iniquity of your people; you have covered all their sins.

3 You have caused all your wrath to cease; you have turned away from your fierce anger.

4 Bring us back, O God of our salvation, and turn away your wrath from us.

5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you extend your anger to all generations?

6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?

7 Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.

8 I will listen to what God the Lord says; For he will speak peace to his people, and to his saints, if only they do not return to folly.

9 Surely salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

10 Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 Truth shall spring forth from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

12 The Lord also shall give good, and our land shall yield its fruit.

3 Fizeste cessar toda a tua indignação: desviaste-te do ardor da tua ira.

4 Torna-nos a trazer, ó Deus da nossa salvação, e retira de sobre nós a tua ira.

5 Estarás para sempre irado contra nós? Estenderás a tua ira a todas as gerações?

6 Não tornarás a vivificar-nos, para que o teu povo se alegre em ti?

7 Mostra-nos, Senhor, a tua misericórdia, e concede-nos a tua salvação.

1 How lovely are your tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself and her young, near your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they will praise you continually.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the ways of the Lord.

6 He who passes through the valley of Baca makes it a spring; the rain also fills the pools.

1 O God, do not keep silent; do not close your ear or stand still, O God.

2 For, behold, your enemies are in an uproar, and those who hate you have lifted up their heads.

3 They have taken cunning counsel against your people, and have conspired against those you have protected.

4 They have said, "Come, let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may no longer be remembered."

5 For they have conspired together; they have joined together against you:

6 The tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites, Moab, and the Hagarites,

7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek, and Philistia, with the inhabitants of Tyre.

8 Assyria also joined with them; they were the arm of the children of Lot. 

9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin at the brook of Kishon; 

10 who were destroyed at Endor; they became dung for the land. 

11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna; 

12 who said, "Let us take for ourselves the famous dwellings of God as an inheritance."
