1 और प्रजा के हाकिम तो यरूशलेम में रहते थे; परन्तु शेष प्रजा ने चिट्ठी डालकर यह निश्चय किया, कि दस में से एक मनुष्य पवित्र नगर यरूशलेम में बसे, और शेष नौ मनुष्य अन्य नगरों में बसें।

2 और लोगों ने उन सब लोगों को आशीर्वाद दिया जिन्होंने यरूशलेम में रहने के लिए अपनी इच्छा प्रकट की थी।

3 और यरूशलेम में रहने वाले प्रान्त के मुख्य पुरुष ये हैं: (परन्तु यहूदा के नगरों में तो सब मनुष्य अपनी अपनी निज भूमि में रहते थे, अर्थात इस्राएली, याजक, लेवीय, नतीन और सुलैमान के दासों की सन्तान)।

4 यरूशलेम में कुछ यहूदी और बिन्यामीन रहते थे, अर्थात यहूदा के वंश में से अतायाह जो उज्जिय्याह का पुत्र था, यह जकर्याह का पुत्र, यह अमर्याह का पुत्र, यह शपत्याह का पुत्र, यह महललेल का पुत्र, और पेरेस के वंश में से था।

5 और मासेयाह जो बारूक का पुत्र था, यह कोल्होजे का पुत्र, यह हजायाह का पुत्र, यह अदायाह का पुत्र, यह योयारीब का पुत्र, यह जकर्याह का पुत्र, यह शिलोनी का पुत्र था।

1 Now the princes of the people dwelt in Jerusalem, but the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to dwell in the holy city Jerusalem, and the nine parts in the other cities.

2 And the people blessed all the men who willingly offered themselves to dwell in Jerusalem.

3 Now these are the princes of the province who dwelt in Jerusalem (but in the cities of Judah each man dwelt in his possession, in their cities, namely, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants):

4 Now there dwelt in Jerusalem some of the children of Judah and of the children of Benjamin: Of the children of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez; 

5 And Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Colhoze, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni.

6 All the sons of Perez who lived in Jerusalem were four hundred and sixty-eight mighty men of valor.

7 And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah.

8 And after him Gabbai, and Shallai: nine hundred and twenty-eight.

9 And Joel the son of Zincri was their overseer; and Judah the son of Sennuah was second over the city.

10 Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joarib, and Jachin.

13 And his brothers, heads of the fathers' houses, two hundred forty-two; and Amasai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahazai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer.

14 And their brothers, mighty men of valor, one hundred twenty-eight; and Zabdiel the son of Gedolim as their overseer.

15 And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; 

16 And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, had oversight of the outward work of the house of God.

17 And Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the chief, who began to give thanks in prayer, and Bakbukiah, the second of his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

18 All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four.

19 And the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, with their brethren, the keepers of the gates, one hundred and seventy-two.

1 E os príncipes do povo habitaram em Jerusalém, mas o resto do povo lançou sortes, para tirar um de dez, que habitasse na santa cidade de Jerusalém, e as nove partes nas outras cidades.

2 E o povo bendisse a todos os homens que voluntariamente se ofereciam para habitar em Jerusalém.

3 E estes são os chefes da província, que habitaram em Jerusalém (porém nas cidades de Judá habitou cada um na sua possessão, nas suas cidades a saber, Israel, os sacerdotes, e os levitas, e os netineus, e os filhos dos servos de Salomão):

4 Habitaram pois em Jerusalém alguns dos filhos de Judá e dos filhos de Benjamim: Dos filhos de Judá: Ataias, filho de Uzias, filho de Zacarias, filho de Amarias, filho de Sefatias, filho de Maalalel, dos filhos de Perez;

31 और यदि देश के लोग विश्राम के दिन कुछ माल वा अनाज बेचने को ले आएं, तो हम विश्राम के दिन या किसी पवित्र दिन को उनसे कुछ न लेंगे; और हम सातवें वर्ष को सभी शुल्कों सहित मुक्त छोड़ देंगे।

32 फिर हमने अपने लिये एक नियम बना लिया कि हम अपने परमेश्वर के भवन की सेवा के लिये प्रति वर्ष एक तिहाई शेकेल का भाग अपने ऊपर डालेंगे।

33 भेंट की रोटी, नित्य अन्नबलि, नित्य होमबलि, विश्रामदिनों, नये चांद, नियत पर्वों, पवित्र वस्तुओं और पापबलि के लिये इस्राएल के प्रायश्चित्त के निमित्त, और हमारे परमेश्वर के भवन के सारे काम के लिये।

34 फिर हमने याजकों, लेवियों और लोगों के बीच चिट्ठियाँ डालीं कि हमारे परमेश्वर के भवन में हमारे पितरों के घरानों के अनुसार प्रति वर्ष नियत समयों पर लकड़ी लाकर जलाई जाए, जैसा कि व्यवस्था में लिखा है।

30 And that we would not give our daughters to the people of the land, nor would we take their daughters for our sons; 

31 And that if the people of the land brought any goods or any grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we would take nothing from them on the Sabbath or on the holy day; and we would leave the seventh year free, and all dues. 

32 We also laid down ordinances for ourselves, laying on ourselves a third of a shekel each year for the service of the house of our God: 

33 for the showbread, and for the continual grain offering, and for the continual burnt offering, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, for the solemn feasts, for the holy things, and for the sin offerings, to make atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God. 

34 We also cast lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the offering of wood that was to be brought into the house of our God, according to the houses of our fathers, at set times year by year, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the law. 

35 And that we should bring the firstfruits of our land, and all the firstfruits of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord. 

36 And the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, as it is written in the law; and that we should bring the firstborn of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God.

37 And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our heave offerings, and the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our land to the Levites; and that the Levites should pay tithes in all the cities of our tillage.

38 And that the priest the son of Aaron should be with the Levites when the Levites received the tithes, and that the Levites should bring the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of the storehouse. 

39 For into those chambers the children of Israel and the children of Levi ought to bring an offering of the grain, of the wine, and of the oil: for there are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the gatekeepers, and the singers; and that we should not forsake the house of our God.

30 E que não daríamos as nossas filhas aos povos da terra, nem tomaríamos as filhas deles para os nossos filhos;

31 E que, trazendo os povos da terra no dia de sábado algumas fazendas, e qualquer grão para venderem, nada tomaríamos deles no sábado, nem no dia santificado; e livre deixaríamos o ano sétimo, e toda e qualquer cobrança.

32 Também sobre nós pusemos preceitos, impondo-nos cada ano a terça parte de um siclo, para o ministério da casa do nosso Deus;

33 Para os pães da proposição, e para a contínua oferta de manjares, e para o contínuo holocausto dos sábados, das luas novas, para as festas solenes, e para as coisas sagradas, e para os sacrifícios pelo pecado, para reconciliar a Israel, e para toda a obra da casa do nosso Deus.

34 Também lançamos as sortes entre os sacerdotes, levitas, e o povo, acerca da oferta da lenha que se havia de trazer à casa do nosso Deus, segundo as casas de nossos pais, a tempos determinados, de ano em ano, para se queimar sobre o altar do Senhor nosso Deus, como está escrito na lei.

35 E que também traríamos as primeiras novidades da nossa terra, e todos os primeiros frutos de todas as árvores, de ano em ano. À casa do Senhor.

36 E os primogênitos dos nossos filhos, e os do nosso gado, como está escrito na lei; e que os primogênitos das nossas vacas e das nossas ovelhas traríamos à casa do nosso Deus, aos sacerdotes, que ministram na casa do nosso Deus.

37 E que as primícias da nossa massa, e as nossas ofertas alçadas, e o fruto de toda árvore, o mosto e o azeite, traríamos aos sacerdotes, às câmaras da casa do nosso Deus; e os dízimos da nossa terra aos levitas; e que os levitas pagariam os dízimos em toda as cidades da nossa lavoura.

38 E que o sacerdote, filho de Aarão, estaria com os levitas quando os levitas recebessem os dízimos, e que os levitas trariam os dízimos dos dízimos à casa do nosso Deus, às câmaras da casa do tesouro.

39 Porque àquelas câmaras os filhos de Israel e os filhos de Levi devem trazer oferta alçadas do grão, do mosto e do azeite; porquanto ali estão os vasos do santuário, como também os sacerdotes que ministram, e os porteiros, e os cantores; e que assim não desampararíamos a casa do nosso Deus.

6 केवल तू ही यहोवा है; तूने स्वर्ग वरन सब से ऊंचे स्वर्ग और उसके सारे गण को बनाया; पृथ्वी और उसमें मौजूद सब कुछ; समुद्र और उनमें मौजूद सब कुछ; और आप उन सभी को जीवित रखते हैं; और स्वर्ग की सेना आपकी आराधना करती है।

7 तू ही वह यहोवा परमेश्वर है, जिसने अब्राहाम को चुनकर कसदियों के ऊर नगर से बाहर निकाला, और उसका नाम अब्राहम रखा।

17 और उन्होंने तेरी बात सुनने से इनकार किया, और जो आश्चर्यकर्म तूने उनके लिये किए थे, उनको स्मरण न किया; वरन वे हठीले हो गए, और अपने बलवे में एक सरदार नियुक्त कर दिया। परन्तु हे क्षमा करनेवाले अनुग्रहकारी और दयालु, विलम्ब से कोप करनेवाले और अति करूणामय परमेश्वर, तू ने उनको नहीं त्यागा।

18 तौभी जब उन्होंने अपने लिये एक बछड़ा ढालकर बनाया, और कहा, तुम्हारा परमेश्वर जो तुम्हें मिस्र से निकाल लाया है, वह यही है; और उन्होंने बड़ी निन्दा की;

19 तौभी तू ने अपनी बड़ी दया के कारण उन्हें जंगल में न छोड़ा। न तो दिन में बादल का खम्भा उन्हें मार्ग दिखाने के लिये उनसे दूर हुआ, न रात में आग का खम्भा उन्हें उजियाला देने और मार्ग दिखाने के लिये उनसे दूर हुआ।

20 और तूने उन्हें शिक्षा देने के लिये अपनी भली आत्मा दी; और तूने अपना मन्ना उनके मुंह से न रोका; और तूने उनकी प्यास बुझाने के लिए उन्हें पानी दिया।

21 इस प्रकार तूने जंगल में चालीस वर्ष तक उनका पालन-पोषण किया; उनमें कोई दोष नहीं था; उनके कपड़े पुराने नहीं हुए, और उनके पैर नहीं सूजे।

22 तूने उन्हें राज्य-राज्य और जातियाँ दीं, और उन्हें भागों में बाँट दिया; और उन्होंने सीहोन के देश, अर्थात् हेशबोन के राजा के देश, और बाशान के राजा ओग के देश पर अधिकार कर लिया।

23 और तूने उनकी सन्तान को आकाश के तारों के समान अनगिनत किया, और उन्हें उस देश में पहुंचाया, जिसके विषय तूने उनके पूर्वजों से कहा था कि वे उसमें जाकर उसे अपने अधिकार में कर लें।

24 तब सन्तान ने आकर उस देश पर अधिकार कर लिया; और देश के निवासी कनानियों को उनके अधीन कर दिया, और राजाओं और देश के लोगों समेत उन्हें उनके हाथ में कर दिया, कि वे उनसे जो चाहें सो करें।

25 और उन्होंने गढ़वाले नगर और उपजाऊ भूमि ले ली, और सब प्रकार की सम्पत्ति से भरे हुए घर, खुदे हुए कुण्ड, दाख और जलपाई के बारियां और बहुत से भोजन के वृक्ष अपने अधिकार में कर लिए; और वे तेरे बड़े भले काम के कारण खा खाकर तृप्त और हृष्ट-पुष्ट हो गए, और आनन्द से रहने लगे।

26 परन्तु वे हठीले होकर तेरे विरुद्ध बलवा करने लगे, और तेरी व्यवस्था को त्याग दिया, और तेरे उन नबियों को जो उनके विरुद्ध गवाही देते थे, घात किया, ताकि वे तेरी ओर फिरें; इस प्रकार उन्होंने बड़े घृणित कार्य किये।

27 इस कारण तूने उन्हें उनके अत्याचारियों के हाथ में सौंप दिया, जो उन पर अत्याचार करते थे; परन्तु जब वे संकट के समय तेरी दोहाई देते हैं, तब तू स्वर्ग से उनकी सुनता है; और अपनी बड़ी दया के अनुसार तूने उन्हें छुड़ानेवाले भेजे जो उन्हें अन्धेर करनेवालों के हाथ से छुड़ाते थे।

28 तौभी जब उनको विश्राम मिला, तब वे फिर तेरे साम्हने बुराई करने लगे; और तूने उन्हें उनके शत्रुओं के हाथ में छोड़ दिया, ताकि वे उन पर शासन करें; और जब वे तेरी ओर फिरे और तेरी दोहाई दी, तब तू ने स्वर्ग से उनकी सुनी, और अपनी दया से तू ने उन्हें बहुत बार छुड़ाया।

31 परन्तु तूने अपनी बड़ी दया से उनको नष्ट नहीं किया, और न त्यागा; क्योंकि तू अनुग्रहकारी और दयालु परमेश्वर है।

33 परन्तु जो कुछ हम पर बीता है उसके विषय में तू तो धर्मी है; क्योंकि तुमने सच्चाई से काम किया है, जबकि हमने दुष्टता से काम किया है।

Repentance and Confession of Sin

1 On the twenty-fourth day of this month the Israelites assembled, fasting and wearing sackcloth, and carrying dust on their shoulders.

2 The Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

3 They stood at their posts and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a fourth of the day, and for a fourth of the day they made confession, and worshiped the Lord their God.

4 Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani and Chenani stood on the Levites’ platform and cried out with a loud voice to the Lord their God. 

5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Petachiah, said, “Stand up and bless the Lord your God forever and ever; now bless his glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. 

6 You alone are Lord, who made heaven, the heaven of heavens, and all their host, the earth and all that is in it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve them all alive; and the host of heaven worships you. 

7 You are the Lord, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name Abraham. 

8 You found his heart faithful before you, and you made a covenant with him to give him the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it to his descendants. You have confirmed your words, for you are righteous.

9 You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt and heard their cry by the Red Sea.

10 You showed signs and wonders to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all the people of his land, for you knew that they had dealt proudly with them. So you made a name for yourself, as it is today.

11 You divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on dry ground; you hurled their pursuers into the depths like a stone into the mighty waters. 

12 You led them by day with a pillar of cloud and by night with a pillar of fire, to give them light on the way they should go.

13 You came down on Mount Sinai and spoke to them from heaven, and gave them righteous judgments and true laws, good statutes and commandments.

14 You made known to them your holy Sabbath, and you commanded them precepts, statutes, and laws through your servant Moses.

15 You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and water from the rock for their thirst. You told them to go in and possess the land for which you swore to give them.

16 But they and our fathers acted proudly and stiffened their necks and did not listen to your commands. 

17 They refused to listen to you and did not remember your wonders that you had done for them. They stiffened their necks and in their rebellion set up a leader. But you, a God who forgives and is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in goodness, did not forsake them. 

18 Even when they made a molten calf for themselves and said, “This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,” and committed great blasphemies, 

19 you did not leave them in the wilderness because of your great compassion. The pillar of cloud did not depart from them by day to lead them on the way, nor the pillar of fire by night to give them light and show them the way in which they should go. 

20 You gave your good spirit to instruct them, and you did not withhold your manna from their mouths. and gave them water for their thirst.

21 So you sustained them forty years in the wilderness; they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell.

22 You also gave them kingdoms and peoples, and divided them into portions; and they possessed the land of Sihon, the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

23 And you multiplied their children as the stars of the sky, and brought them into the land of which you had said to their fathers that they would enter to possess it.

24 ​​So the children went in and took possession of the land; and you subdued the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, before them, and gave them into their hands, as well as the kings and the peoples of the land, to do with them as they pleased.

 25 They took fortified cities and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all riches, cisterns dug out, vineyards and olive groves, and trees for food in abundance; and they ate and were satisfied and grew fat, and lived in delight, because of your great goodness. 

26 But they were stubborn and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their backs, and killed your prophets who testified against them, so that they would return to you; thus they committed great abominations. 

27 Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their oppressors, who oppressed them; but in the time of their trouble, when they cried out to you from heaven, you heard them; and according to your great mercy you gave them saviors who rescued them from the hand of their oppressors.

28 Yet when they had rest, they did evil again before you; and you left them in the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them. When they turned and cried out to you, you heard them from heaven, and in your mercy you often delivered them. 

29 You testified against them, telling them to return to your law. But they acted presumptuously and did not listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances, by which the man who does them will live. They withdrew their shoulders and stiffened their necks, and did not listen. 

30 But you extended your lovingkindness to them for many years, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets, but they did not listen. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 

31 Yet in your great mercy you did not destroy them or forsake them. for you are a gracious and merciful God.

32 Now therefore, our God, the great and mighty and awesome God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness, do not take lightly all the affliction that has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers and all your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria to this day.

33 But you are righteous in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully, while we have dealt wickedly.

34 Our kings, our princes, our priests and our fathers have not kept your law, nor have they listened to your commandments and your testimonies, which you testified against them. 

35 For they served you neither in their kingdom, nor in the great wealth that you gave them, nor in the large and fat land that you set before them, nor did they turn from their evil deeds. 

36 Behold, we are servants today; and even in the land that you gave our fathers, to eat its fruit and its goodness, behold, we are servants in it. 

37 And it multiplies its produce for the kings whom you set over us because of our sins; and they rule over our bodies and over our livestock at their will; and we are in great distress. 

38 And for all this we made a firm covenant, and wrote it; and our princes, our Levites, and our priests have sealed it.

1 E no dia vinte e quatro deste mês se ajuntaram os filhos de Israel com jejum e com sacos, e traziam terra sobre si.

2 E a geração de Israel se apartou de todos os estranhos, e puseram-se em pé, e fizeram confissão dos seus pecados e das iniquidades de seus pais.

3 E, levantando-se no seu posto, leram no livro da lei do Senhor seu Deus uma quarta parte do dia; e na outra quarta parte fizeram confissão; e adoraram ao Senhor seu Deus.

4 E Jesua, Bani, Cadmiel, Sebanias, Buni, Serebias,Bani e Quenani se puseram em pé no lugar alto dos levitas, e clamaram em alta voz ao Senhor seu Deus.

5 E os levitas, Jesua, e Cadmiel, Bani, Hasabnéias, Serebias, Hodias, Sebanias, Petaquias, disseram: Levantai-vos, bendizei ao Senhor vosso Deus de eternidade em eternidade; ora bendigam o nome da tua glória, que está levantado sobre toda a bênção e louvor.

16 Porém eles e nossos pais se houveram soberbamente; e endureceram a sua cerviz, e não deram ouvidos aos teus mandamentos.

17 E recusaram ouvir-te, e não se lembraram das tuas maravilhas, que lhes fizeste, e endureceram a sua cerviz, e na sua rebelião levantaram um chefe. A fim de voltarem para a sua servidão porém tu, ó Deus perdoador, clemente e misericordioso, tardio em irar-te, e grande em beneficência, tu os não desamparaste.

18 Ainda mesmo quando eles fizeram para si um bezerro de fundição, e disseram: Este é o teu Deus, que te tirou do Egito, e cometeram grandes blasfêmias;

19 Todavia tu, pela multidão das tuas misericórdias, os não deixaste no deserto. A coluna de nuvem nunca deles se apartou de dia, para os guiar pelo caminho, nem a coluna de fogo de noite, para os alumiar, e mostrar o caminho por onde haviam de ir.

20 E deste o teu bom espírito, para os ensinar; e o teu maná não retiraste da sua boca; e água lhes deste na sua sede.

21 Desse modo os sustentastes quarenta anos no deserto; falta nenhuma tiveram; os seus vestidos se não envelheceram, e os seus pés se não incharam.

22 Também lhes deste reinos e povos, e os repartiste em porções; e eles possuíram a terra de Seom, a saber, a terra do rei de Hesbom, e a terra de Ogue, rei de Basã.

23 E multiplicaste os seus filhos como as estrelas do céu, e trouxeste-os à terra de que tinhas dito a seus pais que entrariam nela para a possuírem.

24 Assim entraram nela os filhos, e tomaram aquela terra; e abateste perante eles os moradores da terra, os cananeus, e lhes entregaste na mão, como também os reis, e os povos da terra, para fazerem deles conforme à sua vontade.

25 E tomaram cidades fortes e terra gorda, e possuíram casas cheias de toda a fartura, cisterna cavadas, vinhas e olivais, e árvores de mantimento, em abundância; e comeram e se fartaram e engordaram, e viveram em delícias, pela tua grande bondade.

26 Porém se obstinaram, e se revoltaram contra ti, e lançaram a tua lei para trás das suas costas, e mataram os teus profetas, que protestavam contra eles, para que voltassem para ti; assim fizeram grandes abominações.

27 Pelo que os entregaste na mão dos seus angustiadores, que os angustiaram; mas no tempo de sua angústia, clamando a ti, desde os céus, tu os ouviste; e segundo a tua grande misericórdia lhes deste libertadores que os libertaram da mão de seus angustiadores.

28 Porém, em tendo repouso, tornavam a fazer o mal diante de ti; e tu os deixavas na mão dos seus inimigos, para que dominassem sobre eles; e convertendo-se eles, e clamando a ti, tu os ouviste desde os céus, e segundo a tua misericórdia os livraste muitas vezes.

29 E protestaste contra eles, para que voltassem para a tua lei; porém eles se houveram soberbamente, e não deram ouvidos aos teus mandamentos, mas pecaram contra os teus juízos, pelos quais o homem que os cumprir viverá; e retiraram os seus ombros, e endureceram a sua cerviz, e não ouviram.

30 Porém estendeste a tua benignidade sobre eles por muitos anos, e protestaste contra eles pelo teu Espírito, pelo ministério dos teus profetas; porém eles não deram ouvidos; pelo que os entregaste na mão dos povos das terras,

31 Mas pela tua grande misericórdia os não destruíste nem desamparaste; porque és um Deus clemente e misericordioso.

32 Agora pois, ó Deus nosso, ó Deus grande poderoso e terrível, que guardas o concerto e a beneficência, não tenhas em pouca conta toda a aflição que nos alcançou a nós, aos nossos reis, aos nossos príncipes, e aos nossos sacerdotes, e aos nossos profetas, e aos nossos pais, e a todo o teu povo, desde os dias dos reis da Assíria até ao dia de hoje.

33 Porém tu és justo em tudo quanto tem vindo sobre nós; porque tu fielmente te houveste, e nós impiamente nos houvemos.

34 E os nossos reis, os nossos príncipes, os nossos sacerdotes, e os nossos pais não guardaram a tua lei, e não deram ouvidos aos teus mandamentos e aos teus testemunhos, que testificaste contra eles.

35 Porque ele nem no seu reino, nem na muita abundância de bens que lhes deste, nem na terra espaçosa e gorda que puseste diante deles, te serviram, nem se converteram de suas más obras.

36 Eis que hoje somos servos; e até na terra que deste a nossos pais, para comerem o seu fruto e o seu bem, eis que somos servos nela.

37 E ela multiplica os seus produtos para os reis, que puseste sobre nós, por causa dos nossos pecados; e conforme a sua vontade dominam sobre os nossos corpos e sobre o nosso gado; e estamos numa grande angústia.

38 E com tudo isso fizemos um firme concerto, e o escrevemos; e selaram-no os nossos príncipes, os nossos levitas e os nossos sacerdotes.

13 On the next day the heads of the fathers' houses of all the people, the priests and the Levites, gathered together to Ezra the scribe, that they might attend to the words of the law.

14 And they found written in the law which the Lord commanded through Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths on the feast day in the seventh month.

15 So they published it, and proclaimed it throughout all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain and bring olive branches, wild olive branches, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written."

 16 So the people went out and brought everything and made booths for themselves, each on his roof and in their courtyards, in the courts of the house of God, in the square of the Water Gate and in the square of the Ephraim Gate.

17 And the whole assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in the booths, for the children of Israel had never done so from the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day. And there was great joy.

18 And he read in the Book of the Law of God day by day, from the first day to the last. And they kept the feast seven days, and on the eighth day the closing feast, according to the ordinance.

1 Now when the seventh month came, and the children of Israel were in their cities, all the people gathered together as one man in the street before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel.

2 And Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear, on the first day of the seventh month.

3 And he read from it before the street that was before the Water Gate from the morning until noon, in the presence of men and women, and in the presence of all who could understand; and in the ears of all the people they were attentive to the Book of the Law.

11 And the Levites silenced all the people, saying, "Keep quiet, for this day is holy; therefore do not be sad."

12 So all the people went away to eat and drink, and to send portions, and to make great feasts: for they understood the words which were made known to them.

Nehemiah sets guards and lists those who first came to Jerusalem

1 And it came to pass, after the wall was built, that I set up the gates; and the porters, and the singers, and the Levites were appointed.

2 I appointed Hanani my brother, and Hananiah the ruler of the fortress, over Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

3 And I said to them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they stand there, let them shut the gates, and you shall bar them; and let guards be set from the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each man at his post, and each man in front of his house.

4 And the city was large and large, but the people within it were few; and the houses were not yet built.

5 Then my God put it into my heart to gather together the nobles, the rulers, and the people, to register their genealogies. So I found the book of the genealogy of those who went up first, and this is what was written in it:

57 The children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida,

59 The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth-Zabaim, the children of Amon.

60 All the Nethinim and the children of Solomon's servants were three hundred and ninety-two.
