The Book of the Prophet Ezekiel 10
The Second Vision of the Cherubim
Then I looked, and behold, in the firmament that was above the heads of the cherubim, there appeared above them something like a sapphire stone, in the likeness of a throne.
And he spoke to the man clothed in linen, saying, “Go in among the wheels, under the cherubim, and fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim, and scatter them over the city.” And he went in before my eyes.
Now the cherubim were standing on the right side of the house when the man went in; and a cloud filled the inner court.
Then the glory of the Lord rose from above the cherubim to the entrance of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of the glory of the Lord.
And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.
So it happened that he gave the order to the man clothed in linen, saying, “Take fire from among the wheels, from among the cherubim,” and he went in and stood beside the wheels.
Then one cherub stretched out his hand from among the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took it and put it into the hands of the one clothed in linen, who took it and went out.
And there appeared in the cherubim the likeness of a man’s hand under their wings.
Then I looked, and behold, four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside one cherub, and another wheel beside another cherub; and the appearance of the wheels was like the color of beryl.
And as for their appearance, the four had the same likeness, as if one wheel were within another wheel.
As they moved, the wheels moved in any of their four directions; they did not turn as they moved, but went in whatever direction their heads were looking; they did not turn as they moved.
Their whole bodies, their backs, their hands, their wings, and the wheels that the four had were full of eyes all around.
As for the wheels, in my hearing they were called Galgal.
Each one had four faces: The first had the face of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
The cherubim rose up on high; these are the living creatures I saw by the river Chebar.
When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved with them; and when the cherubim lifted their wings to rise from the earth, the wheels did not separate from them.
When the cherubim stood still, they also stood still; when the cherubim rose, they also rose, because the breath of life was in them.
Then the glory of the Lord departed from the entrance of the temple and stood over the cherubim.
The cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the earth in my sight as they went out, with wheels beside them. They stood at the entrance of the east gate of the Lord’s house, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.
These are the living creatures I saw under the God of Israel by the river Chebar. They were cherubim.
Each one had four faces and four wings, with the likeness of human hands under their wings.
Their faces resembled the faces I had seen by the river Chebar. They looked like creatures of color, each walking straight ahead.
