6 Then the children of Israel again did what seemed evil in the eyes of the Lord, and served the Baals and Astarote, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children. of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines: and they left the Lord, and did not serve him.
7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel: and he sold them not to the Philistines, and to the children of Ammon.
8 And in that same year they oppressed and abused the children of Israel: eighteen years they oppressed all the children of Israel who were beyond the Jordan, in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9 Even the children of Ammon passed over the Jordan, to fight against Judah also, and Benjamin tells, and against the house of Ephraim: so that Israel was greatly distressed.
10 Then the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, We have sinned against you, because we have left our God and served the Baals.
11 But the Lord said to the children of Israel, Perhaps the Egyptians and the Amorites and the children of Ammon and the Philistines,
12 And of the Sidonians, and of the Amalekites, and of the Maonites, who were oppressing you, when you cried out to me, did I not then deliver you out of their hand?
13 Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will not deliver you any more.
14 Walk and cry out to the gods you have chosen: that they may deliver you in the time of your grief.
15 But the children of Israel said to the Lord, We have sinned, make us conform to all that seems good to you; We only beg you to free us this day.
16 And they took away the alien gods from among themselves, and served the Lord: then their souls were distressed because of the disgrace of Israel.
17 And the children of Ammon were summoned and took to the field in Gilead: and also those from Israel came together, and took to the field in Mizpah.
18 Then the people, the princes of Gilead, said to one another, Who is the man who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he will be the head of all the inhabitants of Gilead.
