1 The word of the Lord came to me:

2 “Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Wait, ‘Alas for that day!’

3 For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near—a cloudy day, a time for the nations.

4 A sword will come against Egypt, and great distress will come upon Ethiopia when the slain fall in Egypt. They will take away her multitude, and her foundations will be broken.

5 Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all the mixed multitude, Cub, and the people of the covenant land—they will fall by the sword with them.

6 This is what the Lord says: “Those who support Egypt will fall, and the pride of her power will come down. From the tower of Syene they will fall by the sword,” declares the Sovereign Lord.

7 They will be devastated in the midst of the desolate lands, and their cities will be in the midst of the deserted cities.

8 And they will know that I am the Lord, when I set fire to Egypt, and all who helped her are destroyed.

9 In that day messengers will go out from before me in ships, to terrify unsuspecting Ethiopia; and there will be great pain in them, as in the day of Egypt; for, behold, it is coming.

10 Thus says the Lord God: I will cause a multitude to cease from Egypt by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

11 He and his people with him, the most formidable of the nations, will be brought to destroy the land; and they will draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain.

12 And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land, delivering it into the hand of the wicked, and I will desolate the land and its fullness by the hand of strangers; I, the Lord, have spoken it.

13 Thus says the Lord God: I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause the images of Noph to cease; and there shall no longer be a prince of the land of Egypt; and I will put fear in the land of Egypt.

14 And I will desolate Pathros, and I will set fire to Zoan, and I will execute judgments in No.

15 And I will pour out my wrath upon Sin, the strength of Egypt, and I will exterminate the multitude of No.

16 And I will kindle a fire in Egypt; Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be split open, and Noph shall have daily anguish.

17 The young men of Aven and Pibsheth shall fall by the sword, and these cities shall fall into captivity.

18 And the day will grow dark in Tahpanhes, when I break the yokes of Egypt there, and the pride of its power will cease in it; a cloud will cover it, and its daughters will fall into captivity.

19 Thus I will execute judgment on Egypt, and they will know that I am the Lord.

20 In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:

21 “Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and behold, no one will put bandages on it or bind it up to make it strong, so that it may grasp the sword.

22 Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and I will break his arms, the strong one like the one that is broken, and I will cause the sword to fall from his hand.

23 And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and I will disperse them throughout the lands.’” 24 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand; but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him as one who is pierced groans.

25 I will raise up the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall; and they will know that I am the Lord, when I put my sword in the hand of the king of Babylon, and he stretches it out over the land of Egypt.

26 And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and I will disperse them throughout the lands; then they will know that I am the Lord.

1 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

2 Filho do homem, profetiza, e dize: Assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Gemeis: Ah! Aquele dia!

3 Porque está perto o dia, sim está perto o dia do Senhor, dia nublado: o tempo dos gentios ele será.

4 E uma espada virá ao Egito, e haverá grande dor na Etiópia, quando caírem os traspassados no Egito; e tomarão a sua multidão, e quebrar-se-ão os seus fundamentos.

5 Etiópia, e Pute, e Lude, e toda a mistura de gente, e Cube, e os filhos da terra do concerto, com eles cairão à espada.

6 Assim diz o Senhor: Também cairão os que o Egito sustém, e descerá a soberba de seu poder: desde a torre de Sevene ali cairão à espada, diz o Senhor Jeová.

7 E serão assolados no meio das terras assoladas; e as suas cidades estarão no meio das cidades desertas.

11 Ele e o seu povo com ele, os mais formidáveis das nações, serão levados para destruírem a terra; e desembainharão as suas espadas contra o Egito, e encherão a terra de traspassados.

12 E os rios farei secos, e venderei a terra, entregando-a na mão dos maus, e assolarei a terra e a sua plenitude pela mão dos estranhos; eu, o Senhor o disse.

13 Assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Também destruirei os ídolos, e farei cessar as imagens de Nofe: e não haverá mais um príncipe da terra do Egito; e porei o temor na terra do Egito.

14 E assolarei a Patros, e porei fogo a Zoã, e executarei juízos em Nô.

15 E derramarei o meu furor sobre Sim, a força do Egito, e exterminarei a multidão de Nô.

18 E em Tafnes se escurecerá o dia, quando eu quebrar ali os jugos do Egito, e nela cessar a soberba da sua força: uma nuvem a cobrirá, e suas filhas cairão em cativeiro.

19 Assim executarei juízo no Egito, e saberão que eu sou o Senhor.

20 E sucedeu que, no ano undécimo, no mês primeiro, aos sete do mês, veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

21 Filho do homem, eu quebrei o braço de Faraó, rei do Egito, e eis que não lhe aplicarão emplastros, nem lhe porão ligaduras para o atar, para o esforçar, para que pegue da espada.

22 Portanto assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Eis que eu estou contra Faraó, rei do Egito, e quebrarei os seus braços, o forte como o que está quebrado, e farei cair da sua mão a espada.

23 E espalharei os egípcios entre as nações, e os espalharei pelas terras.

24 E esforçarei os braços do rei de Babilônia, e porei a minha espada na sua mão; mas quebrarei os braços de Faraó, e diante dele gemerá como geme o traspassado.

25 Eu levantarei os braços do rei de Babilônia, mas os braços de Faraó cairão; e saberão que eu sou o Senhor, quando eu puser a minha espada na mão do rei de Babilônia, e ele a estender sobre a terra do Egito.

1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

2 Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.

3 Speak and say: Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lies in the midst of your rivers, who says, “My river is my own, and I made it for myself.”

4 But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will catch the fish of your rivers in your scales; and all the fish of your rivers shall cling to your scales.

5 And I will leave you in the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers; you shall fall on the open field; you shall not be gathered or gathered; I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the air.

6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord, for they have become a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

11 No human foot shall pass through it, nor shall any beast foot pass through it, nor shall it be inhabited for forty years.

12 For I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the midst of the desolate lands, and its cities in the midst of the desolate cities shall become a desolation for forty years; and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them throughout the lands.

13 But thus says the Lord God: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from among the peoples among whom they were scattered.

14 And I will restore the captivity of the Egyptians, and will bring them back to the land of Pathros, to the land of their trade; and they shall be there a low kingdom.

15 It shall be lower than the other kingdoms, and it shall never again exalt itself above the nations; for I will diminish it, that it shall not rule over the nations.

16 And the house of Israel will no longer have confidence to bring their iniquity to remembrance when they look back; rather, they will know that I am the Lord God.

17 In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:

18 “Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has caused his army to perform a great service against Tyre; every head has become bald, and every shoulder is bald; and Tyre has not paid him or his army for the service that he has performed against it.

19 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry away its multitude, and take its spoil, and plunder its prey, and this shall be the reward for his army.’” 

20 As payment for their labor, which they performed against her, I have given them the land of Egypt, because they worked for me, declares the Lord God.

21 In that day I will cause power to spring forth in the house of Israel, and I will give you an open mouth in their midst; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

1 No décimo ano, no décimo mês, no dia doze do mês, veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

2 Filho do homem, dirige o teu rosto contra Faraó, rei do Egito, e profetiza contra ele e contra todo o Egito.

3 Fala, e dize: Assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Eis-me contra ti, ó Faraó, rei do Egito, grande dragão, que pousas no meio dos teus rios, e que dizes: O meu rio é meu, e eu o fiz para mim.

4 Mas eu porei anzóis em teus queixos, e prenderei o peixe dos teus rios às tuas escamas; e todo o peixe dos teus rios se pegará às tuas escamas.

5 E te deixarei no deserto, a ti e a todo o peixe dos teus rios, sobre a face do campo cairás: não serás recolhido nem ajuntado: aos animais da terra e às aves do céu te dei por mantimento.

6 E saberão todos os moradores do Egito que eu sou o Senhor, porque se tornaram um bordão de cana para a casa de Israel.

7 Tomando-te eles pela mão, te quebraste, e lhes rasgaste todo o ombro, e, encostando-se eles a ti, te quebraste, tornando imóveis todos os seus lombos.

8 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Eis que eu trarei sobre ti a espada, e separarei de ti homem e animal.

9 E a terra do Egito se tornará em assolação e deserto; e saberão que eu sou o Senhor, porque disseste: O rio é meu, e eu o fiz.

10 Portanto, eis que eu estou contra ti e contra os teus rios; e tornarei a terra do Egito em desertas e assoladas solidões, desde a torre de Sevene até aos confins da Etiópia.

11 Não passará por ela pé de homem nem pé de animal passará por ela, nem será habitada quarenta anos.

12 Porquanto tornarei a terra do Egito em assolação no meio das terras assoladas; e as suas cidades no meio das cidades desertas se tornarão em assolação por quarenta anos; e espalharei os egípcios entre as nações, e os derramarei pelas terras.

13 Mas assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Ao cabo de quarenta anos ajuntarei os egípcios dentre os povos entre os quais foram espalhados.

14 E removerei o cativeiro dos egípcios, e os farei voltar à terra de Patros, à terra do seu comércio; e serão ali um reino baixo.

15 Mais baixo se fará do que os outros reinos, e nunca mais se exalçará sobre as nações; porque os diminuirei, para que não dominem sobre as nações.

16 E não terá mais da casa de Israel a confiança para lhes trazer à lembrança a sua iniqüidade, quando olharem para trás deles; antes saberão que eu sou o Senhor Jeová.

17 E sucedeu que, no ano vinte e sete, no mês primeiro, no primeiro dia do mês, veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

20 The word of the Lord came to me:

21 “Son of man, set your face against Sidon and prophesy against her.

22 Say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Sidon, and I will be glorified in your midst. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I execute judgment on her and show myself holy within her.

23 I will send pestilence against her and bloodshed into her streets. The slain will fall within her, with the sword swirling all around her. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

24 Never again will a thorn prick the house of Israel, nor a brier cause pain, from anyone who robs them all around. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.’” 

25 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When I gather the Israelites from the nations where they have been scattered and prove myself holy among them in the sight of the peoples, then they will live in their own land—the land I gave to my servant Jacob.

26 They will live in it securely and build houses and plant vineyards. They will live in it securely when I execute judgment on all who plunder within their borders, and they will know that I am the Lord their God.

13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: carnelian, topaz, diamond, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, emerald, and gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.

14 You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of the fiery stones.

15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you.

16 Through the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence within, and you sinned; therefore I will cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God, and I will destroy you, O covering cherub, from among the fiery stones.

17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground; I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you.

18 By the multitude of your iniquities, by the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; therefore I brought forth fire from the midst of you; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you.

3 Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that can be hidden from you.

4 By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth and acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.

5 By the greatness of your wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart is so proud because of your wealth,

6 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you set your mind on being like God,

7 Behold, I will bring strangers upon you, the most formidable of the nations, who shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and shall tarnish your splendor.

8 They shall bring you down to the pit, and you shall die the death of those slain in the midst of the seas.

9 Will you still say before him who kills you, ‘I am God’? But you are a man, and not God, in the hand of him who pierces you.

5 They made all your decks of fir trees from Senir; they brought cedars from Lebanon to make masts for you.

7 Your curtain was made of fine embroidered linen from Egypt, to serve as your sail; blue and purple from the islands of Elishah were your covering.

8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; your wise men, O Tyre, who were in you, were your pilots.

9 The elders of Gebal and their wise men were in you who repaired your breaches; all the ships of the sea and the sailors were in you, to deal with your business.

10 The Persians, and the Lydians, and the men of Put were your soldiers in your army; they hung shields and helmets on you; they made your beauty.

11 The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls all around, and the Gammadites on your towers; they hung their shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty.

12 Tarshish traded with you because of the abundance of all kinds of goods: they traded in silver, iron, tin, and lead at your markets.

13 Javan, Turbal, and Meshech were your merchants; they traded with you in the souls of men and vessels of bronze.

14 From the houses of Togarmah they brought horses, horsemen, and mules to your markets;

15 The sons of Dedan were your merchants; many islands were the market of your hand; they brought you ivory tusks and ebony as gifts.

16 Syria traded with you because of the abundance of your works: they brought emeralds, purple, and embroidered work, silk, coral, and crystal to your markets.

17 Judah and the land of Israel were your merchants; they traded with you in wheat from Minnith and Panag, honey, oil, and balm.

18 Damascus traded with you because of the abundance of your works, because of the abundance of all kinds of goods, with wine from Helbon and white wool.

19 Dan and Javan the traveler also traded in your markets; polished iron, bark, and aromatic cane were part of your trade.

20 Dedan traded with you in fine cloth for chariots.

21 Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your merchants in lambs, rams, and goats; in these things they traded with you.

22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah were your merchants in all kinds of spices, and in every precious stone and gold they traded in your markets.

23 Haran, and Kaneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you.

24 These were your merchants in all kinds of merchandise, in bundles of jacinth and embroidered work, and in chests of precious garments, bound with cords and made of cedar.

25 The ships of Tarshish were your caravans, because of your trade; and you were filled, and you were greatly glorified in the midst of the seas.

26 Your oarsmen carried you over great waters; the east wind broke you in the midst of the seas.

27 Your goods and your markets, your business, your sailors, and your pilots, those who repaired your breaches, and those who conducted your business, and all your soldiers who are with you, together with all your congregation who are in your midst, will fall into the midst of the seas on the day of your downfall.

28 At the sound of the shouting of your pilots, the suburbs will tremble.

29 And all who take up the oar, the sailors, and all the pilots of the sea will come down from their ships and stand on the land.

30 And they will make their voice heard against you, and they will cry bitterly; and they will throw dust on their heads, and wallow in ashes.

31 And they will make themselves completely bald because of you, and they will gird themselves with sackcloth, and they will weep over you with bitterness of soul, with bitter lamentation.

32 And they shall bear a lamentation over thee in their weeping, and they shall lament over thee, saying, Who is Tyre, as one that is brought to silence in the midst of the sea?

33 When thy merchandise was exported by the seas, thou didst satisfy many peoples with the multitude of thy goods and thy business; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth.

34 In the time when thou wast broken in the seas, in the depths of the waters, thy business was brought down, and all thy congregation in the midst of thee.

35 All the inhabitants of the isles were filled with astonishment because of thee; and their kings trembled greatly, and were troubled in their faces.

36 The merchants of the peoples hissed over thee: thou hast become a great horror, and thou shalt never be again forever.

1 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

2 Tu pois, ó filho do homem, levanta uma lamentação sobre Tiro.

3 E dize a Tiro, que habita nas estradas do mar, e negocia com os povos em muitas ilhas: Assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Ó Tiro, tu dizes: Eu sou perfeita em formosura.

4 No coração dos mares estão os teus termos; os que te edificaram aperfeiçoaram a tua formosura.

5 Fabricaram todos os teus converses de faias de Senir; trouxeram cedros do Líbano para fazerem mastros para ti.

6 Fizeram os teus remos de carvalhos de Baasã: a companhia dos assírios fez os teus bancos de marfim das ilhas dos quiteus.

7 Linho fino bordado do Egito era a tua cortina, para te servir de vela; azul e púrpura das ilhas de Elisa eram a tua cobertura.

14 Das casas de Togarma traziam às tuas feiras cavalos e cavaleiros e machos;

16 A Síria negociava contigo por causa da multidão das tuas obras: esmeralda, púrpura, e obra bordada, e seda, e corais e cristal traziam às tuas feiras.

24 Estes eram teus mercadores em toda a sorte de mercadorias, em fardos de jacinto e de bordados, e em cofres de roupas preciosas, amarrados com cordas e feitos de cedro.

25 Os navios de Tarsis, eram as tuas caravanas, por causa do teu negócio; e te encheste, e te glorificaste muito no meio dos mares.

26 Os teus remeiros te conduziram sobre grandes águas: o vento oriental te quebrantou no meio dos mares.

27 As tuas fazendas e as tuas feiras, o teu negócio, os teus marinheiros, e os teus pilotos, os que consertavam as tuas fendas, e os que faziam os teus negócios, e todos os teus soldados, que estão em ti, juntamente com toda a tua congregação, que está no meio de ti, cairão no meio dos mares no dia da tua queda.

28 Ao estrondo da gritaria dos teus pilotos tremerão os arrabaldes.

29 E todos os que pegam no remo, os marinheiros, e todos os pilotos do mar descerão de seus navios, e na terra pararão.

30 E farão ouvir a sua voz sobre ti, e gritarão amargamente; e lançarão pó sobre as cabeças, e na cinza se revolverão.

31 E se farão inteiramente calvos por tua causa, e se cingirão de sacos, e chorarão sobre ti com amargura de alma, com amarga lamentação.

32 E levarão uma lamentação sobre ti no seu pranto, e lamentarão sobre ti, dizendo: Quem foi Tiro, como a que está reduzida ao silêncio no meio do mar?

33 Quando as tuas mercadorias eram exportadas pelos mares, fartaste a muitos povos com a multidão da tua fazenda e do teu negócio, enriqueceste os reis da terra.

34 No tempo em que foste quebrantada nos mares, nas profundezas das águas, caíram os teus negócios e toda a tua congregação no meio de ti.

Prophecy against Tyre

1 In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:

2 “Son of man, because Tyre has said concerning Jerusalem, ‘Aha! Aha! The gate of the peoples is broken; it has turned to me; I will be filled, now that it is desolate,’

3 therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up against you many nations, as the sea brings up its waves.

4 They shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down its towers; I will sweep away its dust and make it a bare rock.

5 It shall become a place for spreading nets in the midst of the sea, for I have foretold it,’ says the Lord God, ‘and it shall become plunder for the nations.

6 Its daughters in the field shall be slain by the sword; And they will know that I am the Lord.

7 For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, from the north, the king of kings, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and a great people.

8 He will kill your daughters with the sword in the field, and he will build a siege ramp against you, and he will erect siege works against you.

9 He will set up barbicans against your walls, and he will break down your towers with his axes.

10 By the multitude of his horses he will cover you with dust; your walls will tremble at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he enters through your gates, as through the gates of a city that has been breached.

11 With the hooves of their horses they will trample all your streets; they will kill your people with the sword, and the pillars of your fortress will fall to the ground.

12 They will plunder your riches and loot your merchandise; they will break down your walls and demolish your precious houses; they will throw your stones, your timber, and your dust into the midst of the waters.

13 I will put an end to the noise of your songs, and the sound of your harps will no longer be heard.

14 I will make you a bare rock; you will become a place for spreading nets; you will never be rebuilt, for I, the Lord, have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.

15 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Tyre: “Will not the islands tremble at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan, when a terrible slaughter takes place in your midst?”

16 And all the princes of the sea shall descend from their thrones, and take off their robes, and strip off their embroidered garments: they shall be clothed with trembling, they shall sit upon the earth, and shall tremble every moment; and they shall be astonished because of you.

17 And they shall raise a lamentation over you, and say to you: How thou art perished, O well-populated and renowned city, which was strong on the sea; thou and thy inhabitants, which made all thy visitors afraid!

18 Now shall the islands tremble on the day of thy fall; the islands which are in the sea shall be shaken at thy departure.

19 For thus says the Lord God: When I have made you a desolate city, like cities that are not inhabited, when I have made a deep pit over you, and the many waters cover you,

20 Then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, with the ancient people, and I will lay you down in the lowest parts of the earth, in ancient desolate places, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; and I will establish glory in the land of the living.

21 I will make you a great horror, and you will be no more; when they seek you, you will never be found again, says the Lord God.
