The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 31

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 31

1 At that time, declares the Lord, I will be the God of all the generations of Israel, and they will be my people.

2 This is what the Lord says: “The people who escaped the sword found favor in the wilderness, Israel, when I give them rest.”

3 The Lord appeared to me long ago, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.

4 Again I will build you up, and you will be rebuilt, Virgin Israel! Again you will take up your tambourines and go out with the joyful dance.

5 Again you will plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters will plant and enjoy the fruit.

6 For there will be a day when watchmen will cry out on the mountains of Ephraim, ‘Arise, let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.’” 7 For thus says the Lord: Sing with joy for Jacob, and shout for the Chief of the nations; proclaim, give praises, and say, “O Lord, save your people, the remnant of Israel.”

8 Behold, I will bring them from the land of the north, and gather them from the ends of the earth; and with them the blind and the lame, pregnant women and those in labor together; a great company shall return here.

9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them; I will guide them to streams of water, on a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

10 Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it in the distant isles, and say, “He who scattered Israel will gather him and keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.”

11 For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and delivered him out of the hand of him that was stronger than he.

12 So they shall come and sing on the height of Zion, and shall run to the goodness of the Lord, to the grain, and to the wine, and to the oil, to the lambs and to the calves; and their soul shall be like a watered garden, and they shall be no more sorrowful.

13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and also the young men and the old: and I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and turn their sorrow into rejoicing.

14 And I will satisfy the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be filled with my goodness, saith the Lord.

15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping: Rachel weeping for her children, and shall not receive comfort for them, because they are not.

16 This is what the Lord says: “Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,” declares the Lord, “and they will return from the land of the enemy.”

17 “There is hope for your descendants in the end,” declares the Lord, “for your children will return to their own land.”

18 I have surely heard Ephraim lamenting: “You have chastised me, and I was chastised, like an untrained calf. Turn me back, and I will be restored, for you are the Lord my God.”

19 “Surely after I turned back, I repented; after I understood myself, I struck my thigh; I was ashamed, yes, I was confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.”

20 “Is not Ephraim my precious son, the child of my delight?” Because after I speak against him, I still remember him intently; therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have compassion on him, declares the Lord.

21 Set up road signs for yourself, raise up pillars for yourself; consider the highway, the road by which you went; return, Virgin Israel, return to your cities.

22 How long will you wander, rebellious daughter? For the Lord has created a new thing on earth: a woman will embrace a man.

23 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “They will again say this in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I restore their fortunes: ‘The Lord bless you, O dwelling place of righteousness, O holy mountain!’”

24 Judah and all its cities will live there together, along with the farmers and those who tend the flocks.

25 For I satisfy the weary soul, and I replenish every sorrowful soul.

26 At this I awoke and looked, and my sleep was sweet to me.

27 Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of men and with the seed of animals.

28 And it shall come to pass, that as I watched over them to pluck up, and to break down, and to overthrow, and to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, declares the Lord.

29 In those days they shall no more say, “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.”

30 But every man shall die for his own iniquity; the teeth of every man that eateth sour grapes shall be set on edge.

31 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.

33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘I have known the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.

35 This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun for light by day and decrees the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the Lord Almighty is his name:

36 “If these decrees depart from before me,” declares the Lord, “then the descendants of Israel will cease to be a nation before me forever.”

37 This is what the Lord says: “If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will reject all the descendants of Israel because of all that they have done,” declares the Lord.

38 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when this city shall be rebuilt for the Lord from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.

39 The measuring line shall extend forward to the hill of Gareb and turn toward Goah.

40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields as far as the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be holy to the Lord; they shall not be plucked up or thrown down anymore forever.”

O livro do Profeta Jeremias 31

25 Porque satisfaz a alma cansada, e toda a alma entristecida saciei.

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 30 God promises to bring His people back from captivity

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 30

God promises to bring His people back from captivity

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:

2 Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you:

3 For behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel and Judah, says the Lord; and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

4 And these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.

5 For thus says the Lord: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, but not of peace.

6 Ask now and see if a man is in labor pains. Why then do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor? And why have all faces turned pale?

7 Alas! For that day is so great that there has never been another like it! And it is a time of distress for Jacob; but he shall be delivered out of it.

8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds; and strangers shall no more make them slaves:

9 But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

10 Fear not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity: Jacob shall return, and shall rest, and shall be at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

11 For I am with thee, saith the Lord, to save thee: for I will make an end of all the nations among whom I have scattered thee: but I will not make an end of thee; but I will chasten thee in measure, and will by no means leave thee unpunished.

12 For thus says the Lord: Your injury is mortal; your wound is grievous.

13 There is no one to plead your cause that it may be bound up; you have no remedies that can heal.

14 All your lovers have forgotten you, and they do not seek you; for I have struck you with the wound of an enemy, and with the punishment of a cruel man, because of the greatness of your wickedness and the multitude of your sins.

15 Why do you cry out because of your injury? Your pain is mortal. Because of the greatness of your wickedness and the multitude of your sins, I have done these things.

16 But also all who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries shall go, all of them into captivity; and those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who despoil you I will give over to plunder.

17 For I will restore health to you, and I will heal your wounds, says the Lord; For they call you the outcast, saying, “It is Zion,” for no one asks anymore.

18 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwellings; and the city shall be rebuilt upon its heap, and the palace shall stand as before.

19 And out of them shall come praise and the voice of rejoicing; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be consumed.

20 And their children shall be as in former times, and their congregation shall be established before my face; and I will punish all their oppressors.

21 And their prince shall be of them; and their ruler shall come from among them, and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach me; for who is he that has endeavored to approach me?” says the Lord.

22 And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

23 Behold, the storm of the Lord, his indignation, has gone forth, a sweeping storm; it will fall cruelly upon the head of the wicked.

24 The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has executed, and until he has accomplished the purposes of his heart; in the latter days you will understand this.

O livro do Profeta Jeremias 30 Deus promete trazer do cativeiro o seu povo

O livro do Profeta Jeremias 30

8 Porque será naquele dia, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, que eu quebrarei o seu jugo de sobre o teu pescoço, e quebrarei as tuas ataduras; e nunca mais se servirão dele os estranhos;

12 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Teu quebrantamento é mortal; a tua chaga é dolorosa.

A tua dor é mortal.

22 और यहूदा के सब बंदी जो बाबुल में रहेंगे, उन्हें यह कहकर कोसेंगे, कि यहोवा तुम्हें सिदकिय्याह और अहाब के समान बनाए, जिन्हें बाबुल के राजा ने आग में भून डाला था;

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 29 Jeremiah's letter to the captives in Babylon

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 29

Jeremiah's letter to the captives in Babylon

1 These are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent to Jerusalem, to the rest of the elders of the captivity, as well as to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon.

2 (After King Jehoiachin, the queen, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters and smiths of Jerusalem had left),

3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah (whom Zedekiah king of Judah had sent to Babylon, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), saying:

4 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all the exiles I sent captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:

5 Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit.

6 Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may have sons and daughters; and multiply there, and do not decrease.

7 Seek the peace of the city to which I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord on its behalf; for in its peace you will have peace.

8 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets who are among you deceive you, nor your diviners, nor listen to your dreams which you dream:

9 For they are prophesying falsely to you in my name: I have not sent them, says the Lord.

10 For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place.

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

14 “I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and places where I have driven you,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.”

15 For you say, 'The Lord has raised up prophets for us in Babylon.'

16 For thus says the Lord concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers, who did not go out with you into captivity;

17 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will send among them the sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like rotten figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so bad.

18 And I will pursue them with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence; I will give them up to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, and to be a curse, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations whither I have driven them;

19 Therefore they did not listen to my words, declares the Lord, even though I sent my servants the prophets to them, rising early and sending them; but you did not listen, declares the Lord.

20 Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, all you exiles whom I sent from Jerusalem to Babylon.

21 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying lies to you in my name: I will hand them over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will kill them before your very eyes.

22 And all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon will curse them, saying, “The Lord make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

23 Because they have committed folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken falsely in my name, things which I did not command them to speak ; and I know it and am a witness to it, declares the Lord.

24 And you shall speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying:

25 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and also to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying:

26 The Lord has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada the priest, to be in charge of the house of the Lord over every male demon-possessed man who prophesies, to put him in prison and in the stocks.

27 Now then, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah the Anathothite, who prophesies to you?

28 For this reason he sent us word to Babylon: “The captivity will be long; build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit.”

29 Then Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying:

31 Send to all the exiles, saying, “This is what the Lord says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah prophesied to you, though I did not send him, and he has made you trust in lies.

32 Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants; he shall have no one to dwell among this people, and he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, says the Lord, because he has spoken rebellion against the Lord.

O livro do Profeta Jeremias 29

12 Então me invocareis, e ireis, e orareis a mim, e eu vos ouvirei.

16 Porque assim diz o Senhor a respeito do rei que assenta no trono de Davi, e de todo o povo que habita nesta cidade, vossos irmãos, que não saíram convosco para o cativeiro;

18 E persegui-los-ei com a espada, com a fome, e com a peste; dá-los-ei para andarem de um lado para outro, entre todos os reinos da terra, e para serem uma maldição, e um espanto, e um assobio, e um opróbrio entre todas as nações para onde os tiver lançado;

22 E tomarão deles uma maldição todos os transportados de Judá, que estão em Babilônia, dizendo: O Senhor te faça como Zedequias, e como Acabe, os quais o rei de Babilônia assou no fogo;

24 E a Semaías, o neelamita, falarás, dizendo:

30 E veio a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias, dizendo:

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 28 Jeremiah's struggle with the false prophet Hananiah

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 28

Jeremiah's struggle with the false prophet Hananiah

1 In the same year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet from Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the Lord in the sight of the priests and all the people, saying:

2 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

3 After two full years I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the house of the Lord, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took from this place and carried to Babylon.

4 I will also bring back to this place Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the exiles from Judah who went to Babylon, declares the Lord, for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

5 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Hananiah the prophet in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord.

6 Jeremiah the prophet said, “Amen! May the Lord do so. May the Lord fulfill the words you have prophesied and bring back to this place the vessels of the house of the Lord and all the exiles from Babylon.

7 But now listen to this message I am giving you and all the people:

8 The prophets who preceded me and you long ago prophesied war, disaster and pestilence against many lands and great kingdoms.

9 The prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes true, then he shall be known by him whom the Lord has truly sent.

10 Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it.

11 And Hananiah spoke in the sight of all the people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Thus I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations after two full years.’” And Jeremiah the prophet went his way.

12 But the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

13 “Go and speak to Hananiah, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “You have broken wooden yokes, but in their place you shall make yokes of iron.”’”

14 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I have put an iron yoke on the neck of all these nations, to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they shall serve him; and I have even given him the beasts of the field.

15 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah: The Lord has not sent you, but you have made this people trust in a lie.

16 Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth; this year you shall die, because you have spoken rebellion against the Lord.”

17 And Hananiah the prophet died in the seventh month of that same year.

O livro do Profeta Jeremias 28

10 Então Hananias, o profeta, tomou o jugo do pescoço do profeta Jeremias, e o quebrou.

20 जिन्हें बेबीलोन के राजा नबूकदनेस्सर अपने साथ तब नहीं ले गया जब वह यहूदा के राजा यहोयाकीन के बेटे यकोन्याह और यरूशलेम के सभी अमीर लोगों को यरूशलेम से बेबीलोन ले गया था;

Jeremiah advises submission to the king of Babylon

1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:

2 Thus says the Lord: Make some yokes and put them on your neck.

3 And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

4 And you shall give them a message to their masters, saying: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Thus you shall say to your masters:

5 I made the earth, man, and the animals that are on the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and I give it to whomever I please.

6 And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, my servant; and I have even given him the beasts of the field to serve him.

7 And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his grandson, until the time of his own land comes, when many nations and great kings shall serve him.

8 And it shall come to pass, that if any nation or kingdom will not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, then I will punish that nation with the sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, says the Lord, until I have consumed them by his hand.

9 And do not listen to your prophets, and to your diviners, and to your dreamers, and to your soothsayers, and to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon.”

10 For they prophesy lies to you, to drive you far from your land, and that I may cast you out of it, and you may perish.

11 But the nation that puts its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serves him, I will let it remain in its own land, declares the Lord, and it shall cultivate it and dwell in it.

12 And I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, “Put your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and you shall live.

13 Why should you and your people die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as the Lord has said concerning the people who will not serve the king of Babylon?”

14 And do not listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon,” for they prophesy lies to you.

15 For I did not send them, declares the Lord, yet they prophesy falsely in my name, so that I may cast you out and you may perish, both you and the prophets who prophesy to you.

16 I also spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, ‘Behold, the vessels of the house of the Lord shall soon return from Babylon,’ for they prophesy lies to you.

17 Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon, and you shall live. Why should this city become a desolate place?

18 But if they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, let them pray now to the Lord of hosts, that the vessels that remain in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, may not go to Babylon.”

19 For thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the pillars, and the sea, and the bases, and the remaining vessels that are left in the city.

20 Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take with him when he carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon Jeconiah the son of Jehoiachin, king of Judah, and all the nobles of Jerusalem;

21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem:

22 They shall be carried to Babylon, and shall remain there until the day that I visit them, says the Lord; then I will bring them up, and will bring them back to this place.

O livro do Profeta Jeremias 27

20 Os quais Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, não levou, quando transportou de Jerusalém para Babilônia a Jeconias, filho de Joaquim, rei de Judá, como também a todos os nobres de Jerusalém;

5 कि तुम मेरे सेवकों पैगंबरों की बातें सुनो, जिन्हें मैंने तुम्हारे पास भेजा था, सुबह उठकर भेजा था, लेकिन तुमने नहीं सुना;

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 26 Jeremiah predicts the ruin of the temple and Jerusalem: and he is in danger of death

The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 26

Jeremiah predicts the ruin of the temple and Jerusalem: and he is in danger of death

1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying:

2 Thus says the Lord: Stand in the courtyard of the house of the Lord and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord all the words that I command you to speak to them; do not forget a single word.

3 Perhaps they will listen and turn, each from his evil way, and I will relent of the disaster that I intend to bring on them because of the wickedness of their deeds.

4 Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law which I have set before you,

5 That you should listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent to you, rising early and sending them, but you did not listen;

6 Then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

7 And the priests and the prophets and all the people listened to Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.

8 And it came to pass, when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You shall surely die.

9 For you have prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant.’” And all the people gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

10 When the princes of Judah heard these words, they went up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and sat down at the entrance of the new gate of the Lord.

11 Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying, “This man is guilty of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”

12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and to all the people, saying, “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.

13 Now therefore, amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the Lord your God, and the Lord will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you.

14 As for me, behold, I am in your hands; do with me as is good and right in your eyes.”

15 But know for certain that if you kill me, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon its inhabitants; for truly the Lord has sent me to you, to speak all these words in your hearing.

16 Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man is not guilty of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

17 Then some of the elders of the land stood up and spoke to all the congregation of the people, saying:

18 Micah the Morasite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, and the mountain of the house like the high places of a forest.’”

19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and plead for the Lord’s favor? Then the Lord relented from the disaster he had pronounced against them, and we are doing great harm to ourselves.

20 There was also a man who prophesied in the name of the Lord: Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land, according to all the words of Jeremiah.

21 When King Jehoiachin and all his officials and all the princes heard his words, the king sought to kill him. When Uriah heard this, he was afraid and fled to Egypt.

22 But King Jehoiachin sent some men to Egypt, Elnathan son of Achbor and other men with him.

23 So they brought Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiachin, who struck him down with the sword and threw his body into the graves of the common people.

24 Then the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that he would not be handed over to the people to be put to death.
