O pacto é violado

 

1 A palavra que veio a Jeremias, da parte do Senhor, dizendo:

2 Ouvi as palavras deste concerto, e falai aos homens de Judá, e aos habitantes de Jerusalém.

3 Dize-lhes pois: Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Maldito o homem que não escutar as palavras deste concerto.

4 Que ordenei a vossos pais no dia em que os tirei da terra do Egito, da fornalha de ferro, dizendo: Dai ouvidos à minha voz, e fazei conforme a tudo que vos mando; e vós me sereis a mim por povo, e eu vos serei a vós por Deus;

5 Para que confirme o juramento que fiz a vossos pais de dar-lhes uma terra que manasse leite e mel, como se vê neste dia. Então eu respondi, e disse: Amém, ó Senhor.

6 E disse-me o Senhor: Apregoa todas estas palavras nas cidades de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém, dizendo: Ouvi as palavras deste concerto, e cumpri-as.

7 Porque deveras protestei a vossos pais no dia em que os tirei da terra do Egito, até ao dia de hoje, madrugando, e protestando, e dizendo: Dai ouvidos à minha voz.

8 Mas não ouviram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos, antes andaram cada um conforme o propósito do seu coração malvado: pelo que trouxe sobre eles todas as palavras deste concerto que lhes mandei que cumprissem, mas não cumpriram.

9 Disse me mais o Senhor: Uma conjuração se achou entre os homens de Judá, entre os habitantes de Jerusalém.

10 Tornaram às maldades de seus primeiros pais que não quiseram ouvir as minhas palavras; e eles andaram após deuses estranhos para os servir: a casa de Israel e a casa de Judá quebrantaram o meu concerto, que tinha feito com seus pais.

11 Portanto assim diz o Senhor: Eis que trarei mal sobre eles, de que não poderão escapar, e clamarão a mim e eu não os ouvirei.

12 Então irão as cidades de Judá e os habitantes de Jerusalém e clamarão aos deuses a que eles queimaram incenso; eles porém de nenhuma sorte os livrarão no tempo do seu mal.

13 Porque, segundo o número das tuas cidades, foram os teus deuses, ó Judá! E, segundo o número das ruas de Jerusalém, levantaste altares à impudência, altares para queimares incenso a Baal.

14 Tu pois não ores por este povo, nem levantes por eles clamor nem oração; porque não os ouvirei no tempo em que eles clamarem a mim, por causa do seu mal.

15 Que tem o meu amado que fazer na minha casa, visto como muitos nela cometem grande abominação e as carnes santas se desviaram de ti? Quando tu fazer mal, então andas saltando de prazer.

16 Denominou-te o Senhor oliveira verde, formosa por seus deliciosos frutos; mas agora, à voz de um grande tumulto, acendeu fogo ao redor dela, e se quebraram os seus ramos.

17 Porque o Senhor dos Exércitos, que te plantou, pronunciou contra ti o mal, pela maldade da casa de Israel e da casa de Judá, que para si mesmos fizeram, pois me provocaram à ira, queimando incenso a Baal.

Idols and the Lord

1 Hear the word that the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel.

2 Thus says the Lord: Do not learn the way of the nations, nor be dismayed by the signs of the heavens, for the nations are dismayed by them.

3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for they cut down a tree from the forest, the work of the hands of the craftsman with an axe.

4 They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers so that it will not topple.

5 They are like a palm tree, a carved work, but they cannot speak; they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do harm, nor can they do good.

6 There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might.

7 Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this belongs only to you; for among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.

8 But they have all become brutish and foolish; the teaching of worthless idols is wood.

9 They bring silver from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and the hands of the goldsmith; they make their garments of blue and purple; they are all the work of wise men.

10 But the Lord God is the truth; he is the living God and the eternal King; at his wrath the earth trembles, and the nations cannot endure his indignation.

11 Thus you shall say to them: The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.

12 He made the earth by his power; he established the world by his wisdom; and by his understanding he stretched out the heavens.

13 When he utters his voice, there is a roar of waters in the heavens, and the vapors ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightning for the rain, and brings forth the wind from his treasuries.

14 Every man is brutish and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his molten images are false, and there is no breath in them.

15 They are worthless, a work of deceit; in the time of their punishment they shall perish.

16 Jacob’s portion is not like these, for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.

17 Gather your merchandise from the land, you who inhabit the stronghold.

18 For thus says the Lord: Behold, this time I will hurl away the inhabitants of the land as with a sling, and I will distress them, that they may feel it, saying:

19 Woe is me, because of my brokenness! My wound causes me great pain; and I had said: Surely this is an illness that I can endure.

20 My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken; my children have gone from me, and are no more; there is no one left to pitch my tent or to raise my curtains.

21 For the shepherds have become brutish, and have not sought the Lord; therefore they have not prospered, and all their livestock are scattered.

22 Behold, a voice of fame comes, a great tumult from the land of the north, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place for dragons.

23 I know, O Lord, that a person’s life is not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.

24 Correct me, O Lord, but only in moderation, not in your anger, or you will reduce me to nothing.

25 Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge you, on the generations that do not call on your name; for they have devoured Jacob; they have devoured him and consumed him, and laid waste his dwelling place.

1 Ouvi a palavra que o Senhor vos fala a vós, ó casa de Israel.

2 Assim diz o Senhor: Não aprendais o caminho das nações, nem vos espanteis com os sinais dos céus: porque com eles se atemorizam as nações.

3 Porque os costumes dos povos são vaidade: pois cortam do bosque um madeiro, obra das mãos do artífice, com machado.

4 Com prata e com ouro o enfeitam, com pregos e com martelos o firmam, para que não se mova.

5 São como a palmeira, obra torneada mas não podem falar: necessitam de quem os leve, porquanto não podem andar: não tenhais receio deles, pois não podem fazer mal, nem tampouco têm poder de fazer bem.

6 Ninguém há semelhante a ti, ó Senhor: tu és grande, e grande o teu nome em força.

7 Quem te não temeria a ti, ó Rei das nações? Pois isto só a ti pertence; porquanto entre todos os sábios das nações, e em todo o seu reino, ninguém há semelhante a ti.

8 Mas eles todos se embruteceram e se tornaram loucos: ensino de vaidades é o madeiro.

9 Trazem prata estendida de Társis e ouro de Ufaz, trabalho do artífice, e das mãos do fundidor: fazem seus vestidos de azul celeste e púrpura; obra de sábios são todos eles.

10 Mas o Senhor Deus é a verdade: ele mesmo é o Deus vivo e o Rei eterno; do seu furor treme a terra, e as nações não podem suportar a sua indignação.

11 Assim lhes direis: Os deuses que não fizeram os céus e a terra desaparecerão da terra e de debaixo deste céu.

12 Ele fez a terra pelo seu poder; ele estabeleceu o mundo por sua sabedoria e com a sua inteligência estendeu os céus.

17 Ajunta da terra a tua mercadoria, ó habitadora da fortaleza.

18 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Eis que desta vez arrojarei como se fora com uma funda os moradores da terra, e os angustiarei, para que venham a senti-lo, dizendo:

19 Ai de mim, por causa do meu quebrantamento! A minha chaga me causa grande dor; e eu havia dito: Certamente isto é enfermidade que eu poderei suportar.

20 A minha tenda está destruída, e todas as minhas cordas se quebraram; os meus filhos foram-se de mim, e não existem; ninguém há mais que estenda a minha tenda, e que levante as minhas cortinas.

21 Porque os pastores se embruteceram, e não buscaram ao Senhor: por isso não prosperaram, e todos os seus gados se espalharam.

22 Eis que vem uma voz de fama, grande tumulto da terra do norte, para fazer as cidades de Judá uma assolação, uma morada de dragões.

23 Eu sei, ó Senhor, que não é do homem o seu caminho nem do homem que caminha o dirigir os seus passos.

24 Castiga-me, ó Senhor, mas com medida, não na tua ira, para que me não reduzas a nada.

25 Derrama a tua indignação sobre as nações que te não conhecem, e sobre as gerações que não invocam o teu nome; porque devoraram a Jacó; devoraram-no e consumiram-no, e assolaram a sua morada.

1 Oh, that my head were a spring of water, and my eyes a fountain of tears! Then I would weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people.

2 Oh, that I had in the desert a lodging place for travelers! Then I would leave my people and depart from them, for they are all adulterers, a band of traitors.

3 They extend their tongue like a bow for lies; they are strong in the land, but not for truth. They proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me, says the Lord.

4 Beware each of his neighbor, and trust no brother; for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor goes about slandering.

5 They will mock each other, and they do not speak the truth; they teach their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves in wicked deeds.

6 Your dwelling place is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, declares the Lord.

7 Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will refine and test them, for how can I deal with the daughter of my people?

8 Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceitfully. With their mouths they speak peace to their neighbors, but inwardly they plot against them.

9 Should I not punish them for these things?” declares the Lord. “Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?

10 I will raise up weeping and lamentation for the mountains, and lamentation for the pastures of the wilderness; for they are burned up, and no one passes through them; the lowing of cattle is not heard anymore; from the birds of the air to the beasts they have wandered off and fled.

11 And I will make Jerusalem heaps of ruins, a dwelling place for dragons, and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, so that they will be forsaken.

12 Who is the wise man who understands this? And to whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may declare it? Why has the land perished, and been burned like a desert, so that no one passes through it?

13 And the Lord said: Because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them, and have not listened to my voice, nor walked in it.

14 But they have walked after the stubbornness of their own hearts, and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them.

15 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed this people with wormwood, and make them drink gall.

16 And I will scatter them among nations that have not known them or their fathers, and I will send the sword after them until I have consumed them.

17 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider, and call for mourning women, that they may come; and send for wise women, that they may come also.

18 Let them hasten and raise their lamentation over us; let our eyes overflow with tears, and our eyelids drip with water.

19 For a voice of weeping is heard from Zion: “How we are ruined! We are greatly ashamed, for we have forsaken the land, and they have overturned our dwellings.”

20 Hear therefore, you women, the word of the Lord, and let your ears receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters lamentation, and each one her neighbor lamentation.

21 For death has climbed through our windows and entered our palaces, to cut off the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares.

22 Say: Thus says the Lord: Even the corpses of men will lie like dung on the face of the field, and like sheaves behind the reaper, and there is no one to gather them.

23 Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches.

24 But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, says the Lord.

25 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will punish all the circumcised along with the uncircumcised:

26 Egypt, Judah, Edom, the Ammonites, Moab, and all who cut the corners of their hair, who live in the desert; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart.”

1 Oxalá a minha cabeça se tornasse em águas, e os meus olhos numa fonte de lágrimas! Então choraria de dia e de noite os mortos da filha do meu povo.

2 Oxalá tivesse no deserto uma estalagem de caminhantes! Então deixaria o meu povo, e me apartaria dele porque todos eles são adúlteros, e um bando de aleivosos.

3 E estendem a sua língua, como se fosse o seu arco, para a mentira; fortalecem-se na terra, mas não para a verdade, porque avançam de malícia em malícia, e a mim me não conhecem, diz o Senhor.

4 Guardai-vos cada um do seu amigo, e de irmão nenhum vos fieis; porque todo o irmão não faz mais do que enganar, e todo o amigo anda caluniando.

10 Pelos montes levantarei choro e pranto, e pelas pastagens do deserto lamentação; porque já estão queimadas, e ninguém passa por elas: nem já se ouve mugido de gado: desde as aves dos céus, até aos animais andaram vagueando, e fugiram.

11 E farei de Jerusalém montões de pedras, morada de dragões, e das cidades de Judá farei uma assolação, de sorte que fiquem desabilitadas.

12 Quem é o homem sábio, que entenda isto? E a quem falou a boca do Senhor, para que o possa anunciar? Por que razão pereceu a terra, e se queimou como deserto, de sorte que ninguém passa por ela?

13 E disse o Senhor: Porque deixaram a minha lei, que publiquei perante a sua face, e não deram ouvidos à minha voz, nem andaram nela.

14 Antes andaram após o propósito do seu coração, e após os baalins, que lhes ensinaram os seus pais.

15 Portanto assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que darei de comer alosna a este povo e lhe darei a beber água de fel.

16 E os espalharei entre nações, que não conheceram nem eles nem seus pais, e mandarei a espada após eles, até que venha a consumi-los.

17 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Considerai, e chamai carpideiras, para que venham; e mandai procurar mulheres sábias, para que venham também.

18 E se apressem, e levantem o seu lamento sobre nós; e desfaçam-se os nossos olhos em lágrimas, e as nossas pálpebras destilem águas.

19 Porque uma voz de pranto se ouviu de Sião: Como estamos arruinados! Estamos mui envergonhados, porque deixamos a terra, e eles transtornaram as nossas moradas.

20 Ouvi pois, vós, mulheres, a palavra do Senhor, e os vossos ouvidos recebam a palavra da sua boca: e ensinai o pranto a vossas filhas, e cada uma à sua companheira a lamentação.

21 Porque a morte subiu pelas nossas janelas, e entrou em nossos palácios, para exterminar das ruas as crianças, e os mancebos das praças.

22 Fala: Assim diz o Senhor: Até os cadáveres dos homens jazerão como esterco sobre a face do campo, e como gavela atrás do segador, e não há quem recolha.

23 Assim diz o Senhor: Não se glorie o sábio na sua sabedoria, nem se glorie o forte na sua força; não se glorie o rico nas suas riquezas.

24 Mas o que se gloriar glorie-se nisto: em me conhecer e saber que eu sou o Senhor, que faço beneficência, juízo e justiça na terra; porque destas coisas me agrado, diz o Senhor.

25 Eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que visitarei a todo o circuncidado com o incircunciso:

26 Ao Egito, e a Judá, e a Edom, e aos filhos de Amom, e a Moabe, e a todos os que cortam os cantos do seu  cabelo, que habitam no deserto; porque todas as nações são incircuncisas, e toda a casa de Israel é incircuncisa de coração.

4 Say to them, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Do people fall and not rise again? Do they turn away and not return?’

5 Why then does this people of Jerusalem turn away, with a continual apostasy? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.

6 I listened and heard: They do not speak what is right; no one repents of their wickedness, saying, ‘What have I done?’ Each one turned to his own course, like a horse charging into battle.

7 Even the stork in the sky knows its appointed times, and the turtledove, the crane, and the swallow observe the time of their migration; but my people do not know the judgment of the Lord.

8 How then can you say, ‘We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us’?” Behold, the false pen of the scribes has labored in vain.

9 The wise men are put to shame, they are dismayed and taken captive; behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord; what wisdom then do they have?

10 Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their lands to those who possess them; for from the least to the greatest, everyone is given to covetousness; from the prophet to the priest, everyone deals falsely.

11 They have healed the wound of the daughter of my people lightly, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.

12 Are they ashamed of committing abomination? No, they are not at all ashamed, nor do they know what shame is. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall, and they shall stumble at the time when I visit them, says the Lord.

13 Surely I will gather them, says the Lord: there are no more grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf has withered; even that which I gave them will go away from them.

14 Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there; for the Lord our God has silenced us and given us gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord.

15 Peace was expected, but no good came; a time of healing, but behold, terror.

16 From Dan comes the snorting of his horses; the whole land trembles at the sound of the neighing of his mighty men; they come and devour the land and its abundance, the city and those who dwell in it.

17 For behold, I will send among you serpents and vipers, against which there is no enchantment, and they shall bite you, says the Lord.

18 Oh, that I could find comfort in my sorrow! My heart is faint within me.

19 Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a far country: Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her king not in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with carved images, with strange vanities?

20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

21 I am broken by the wound of the daughter of my people; I go about mourning; astonishment has seized me.

22 Is there no ointment in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the daughter of my people?

6 Eu escutei e ouvi: não falam o que é reto, ninguém há que se arrependa da sua maldade, dizendo: Que fiz eu? Cada um se devia na sua carreira, como um cavalo que arremete com ímpeto na batalha.

7 Até a cegonha no céu conhece os seus tempos determinados; e a rola, e o grou e a andorinha observam o tempo da sua arribação: mas o meu povo não conhece o juízo do Senhor.

8 Como pois dizeis: Nós somos sábios, e a lei do Senhor está conosco? Eis que em vão tem trabalhado a falsa pena dos escribas.

9 Os sábios foram envergonhados, foram espantados e presos: eis que rejeitaram a palavra do Senhor; que sabedoria pois teriam?

10 Portanto darei suas mulheres a outros, e as suas herdades a quem as possua; porque desde o menor até ao maior cada um deles se dá à avareza: desde o profeta até ao sacerdote, cada um deles usa de falsidade.

15 Espera-se a paz, e não há bem: o tempo da cura, e eis o terror.

16 Já desde Dã se ouve o resfolegar dos seus cavalos: toda a terra treme à voz dos rinchos dos seus fortes; e vêm, e devoram a terra e a sua abundância, a cidade e os que habitam nela.

17 Porque eis que enviarei entre vós serpentes e basiliscos, contra os quais não há encantamento, e vos morderão, diz o Senhor.

18 Oh! Se eu pudesse consolar-me na minha tristeza! O meu coração desfalece em mim.

2 They will be displayed before the sun, the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they loved and served, whom they followed, whom they sought, and before whom they bowed down. They will not be gathered or buried; they will be like dung on the face of the earth.

3 Death will be chosen rather than life for all the remnant of this evil race who remain in the places where I have driven them, declares the Lord Almighty.

2 यहोवा के घर के गेट पर खड़े हो जाओ, और वहाँ यह बात सुनाओ, और कहो: हे यहूदा के सब लोगों, जो इन गेटों से यहोवा की पूजा करने आते हो, यहोवा की बात सुनो।

9 तुम चोरी करोगे, खून करोगे, व्यभिचार करोगे, झूठी कसम खाओगे, बाल के लिए धूप जलाओगे, और दूसरे देवताओं के पीछे चलोगे जिन्हें तुम नहीं जानते,

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:

2 Stand at the gate of the house of the Lord, and proclaim there this word, and say: Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah, who enter through these gates to worship the Lord.

3 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and I will let you dwell in this place.

4 Do not trust in deceptive words, saying, “This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord!”

5 But if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice between a man and his neighbor,

6 If you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place, nor follow other gods to your own harm,

7 I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.

8 Behold, you trust in deceptive words that are of no profit.

9 You will steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,

10 Then you will come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, “We are free; we may do all these abominations?”

11 Is this house, which is called by my name, a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen this, declares the Lord.

12 But go now to my place that was in Zion, where I first caused my name to dwell, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.

13 Now therefore, because you do all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke to you, rising early and speaking, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer,

14 I will do also to this house, which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to this place that I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

15 And I will cast you out of my presence, as I cast out all your brothers, the whole generation of Ephraim.

16 Therefore, do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor intercede with me, for I will not listen to you.

17 Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18 The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven, and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

19 Is it I whom they are provoking to anger, declares the Lord, and not themselves, to the shame of their faces?

20 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, and on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.

21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat meat.

22 For I did not speak to your fathers on the day that I brought you out of the land of Egypt, nor did I command them anything concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.

23 But this I commanded them, saying, “Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.”

24 But they did not listen or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil hearts; and they went backward and not forward.

25 From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, sending them daily and early.

26 But they did not listen to me or incline their ears; instead, they stiffened their necks and did worse than their ancestors.

27 Therefore, you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you; you shall call to them, but they will not answer you.

28 And you shall say to them: “This is a people who do not listen to the voice of the Lord their God and do not accept correction; truth has perished and has been torn from their mouths.”

29 Cut off the hair of your head and throw it away, and raise your lamentation on high; for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

30 For the children of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes, declares the Lord: they have set their abominations in the house that is called by my name, to defile it.

31 And they built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I never commanded, nor did it enter my heart.

32 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it will no longer be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter; and they will bury in Topheth, because there will be no more room.

33 And the corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth; and no one will frighten them away.

34 And I will cause the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem; for the land will become desolate.

1 A palavra que foi dita a Jeremias pelo Senhor, dizendo:

2 Põe-te à porta da casa do Senhor, e proclama ali esta palavra, e dize: Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, todos de Judá, os que entrais por estas portas, para adorardes ao Senhor.

3 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Melhorai os vossos caminhos e as vossas obras, e vos farei habitar neste lugar.

4 Não vos fieis em palavras falsas, dizendo: Templo do Senhor, templo do Senhor, templo do Senhor é este.

5 Mas, se deveras melhorardes os vossos caminhos e as vossas obras, se deveras fizerdes juízo entre um homem e entre o seu companheiro,

6 Se não oprimirdes o estrangeiro, e o órfão, e a viúva, nem derramardes sangue inocente neste lugar, nem andardes após outros deuses para vosso próprio mal,

7 Eu vos farei habitar neste lugar, na terra que dei a vossos pais, de século em século.

8 Eis que vós confiais em palavras falsas, que para nada são proveitosas.

9 Furtareis vós, e matareis, e cometereis adultério, e jurareis falsamente, e queimareis incenso a Baal, e andareis após outros deuses que não conhecestes,

10 E então vireis, e vos poreis diante de mim nesta casa, que se chama pelo meu nome, e direis: Somos livres, podemos fazer todas estas abominações?

16 Tu pois não ores por este povo, nem levantes por ele clamor ou oração, nem me importunes, porque eu não te ouvirei.

17 Não vês tu o que andam fazendo nas cidades de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém?

18 Os filhos apanham a lenha, e os pais acendem o fogo, e as mulheres amassam a farinha, para fazerem bolos à rainha dos Céus, e oferecem libações a outros deuses, para me provocarem à ira.

20 Portanto assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Eis que a minha ira e o meu furor se derramarão sobre este lugar, sobre os homens e sobre os animais, e sobre as árvores do campo, e sobre os frutos da terra; e acender-se-á, e não se apagará.

21 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Ajuntai os vossos holocaustos aos vossos sacrifícios, e comei carne.

22 Porque nunca falei a vossos pais, no dia em que vos tirei da terra do Egito, nem lhes ordenei coisa alguma acerca de holocaustos ou sacrifícios.

23 Mas isto lhes ordenei, dizendo: Dai ouvidos à minha voz, e eu serei o vosso Deus, e vós sereis o meu povo; e andai em todo o caminho que eu vos mandar, para que vos vá bem.

24 Mas não ouviram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos, mas andaram nos seus próprios conselhos, no propósito do seu coração malvado; e andaram para trás, e não para diante.

25 Desde o dia em que vossos pais saíram da terra do Egito, até hoje enviei-vos todos os meus servos, os profetas, todos os dias madrugando e enviando-os.

26 Mas não me deram ouvidos, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos, mas endureceram a sua cerviz, e fizeram pior do que seus pais.

27 Dir-lhes-ás pois todas estas palavras, mas não te darão ouvidos; chama-los-ás, mas não te responderão.

28 E lhes dirás: Uma gente é esta que não dá ouvidos à voz do Senhor seu Deus e não aceita a correção: já pereceu a verdade, e se arrancou da sua boca.

29 Corta o cabelo da tua cabeça e lança-o fora, e levanta o teu pranto sobre as alturas; porque já o Senhor rejeitou e desamparou a geração do seu furor;

30 Porque os filhos de Judá fizeram o que parece mal aos meus olhos, diz o Senhor: puseram as suas abominações na casa que se chama pelo meu nome, para a contaminarem.

31 E edificaram os altos de Tofete, que está no vale do filho de Hinom para queimarem no fogo a seus filhos e a suas filhas; o que nunca ordenei, nem me subiu ao coração.

32 Portanto eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que nunca se chamará mais Tofete, nem vale do filho de Hinom, mas o vale da matança; e enterrarão em Tofete, por não haver mais lugar.

33 E os cadáveres deste povo servirão de pasto às aves dos céus e aos animais da terra; e ninguém os espantará.

34 E farei cessar nas cidades de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém, a voz de folguedo, e a voz de alegria, a voz de esposo e a voz de esposa; porque a terra se tornará em desolação

1 Flee for your lives, children of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem; and sound the trumpet in Tekoa, and lift up the torch upon Beth-haccherem; for out of the north lies evil and great destruction.

2 I will leave the beautiful and delicate daughter of Zion desolate.

3 Shepherds will come to her with their flocks; they will pitch tents against her all around, and each will pasture in his own place.

4 Prepare war against her, arise, and let us go up at midday; Woe to us! For the day is drawing to a close, the shadows of evening are drawing near.

5 Arise, and let us go up at night, and destroy her palaces.

6 For thus says the Lord of hosts: Cut down trees, and raise siege works against Jerusalem; This is the city that must be visited; only oppression is in the midst of it.

7 As a spring brings forth its waters, so it brings forth its wickedness; violence and destruction are heard in it; sickness and wounds are continually before me.

8 Correct yourself, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from you, lest I make you a desolation and an uninhabited land.

9 Thus says the Lord of hosts: They shall diligently glean the remnant of Israel like a vine; turn your hand, like the grape gatherer, to the baskets.

10 To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and they cannot hear; behold, the word of the Lord is to them a shameful thing; they have no delight in it.

11 Therefore I am filled with the wrath of the Lord; I am weary of holding it in; I will pour it out on the children in the streets, and on the gatherings of the young men together; for even husband and wife shall be taken captive, and the old man with him who is full of days.

12 Their houses shall pass to others, their lands and their wives together; for I will stretch out my hand against the inhabitants of this land, says the Lord.

13 For from the least of them even to the greatest, everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely.

14 They have healed the wound of the daughter of my people lightly, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.

15 Are they ashamed of committing abomination? No, they are not at all ashamed, nor do they know what shame is. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; in the time when I visit them they shall stumble, says the Lord.

16 Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”

17 “I also set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not listen.’”

18 “Therefore hear, you nations; and know, you congregation, what is being done among them!

19 “Hear, you earth! Behold, I will bring evil upon this people, the very fruit of their thoughts; because they have not heeded my words, and they have rejected my law.

20 “Why then will incense from Sheba come to me, and the finest aromatic cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings do not please me, nor are your sacrifices pleasing to me.”

21 Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will set stumbling blocks before this people, and fathers and sons together shall stumble over them; neighbor and companion shall perish.

22 Thus says the Lord: Behold, a people shall come from the land of the north, and a great nation shall arise from the sides of the land.

23 They shall bring bow and spear; they are cruel, and shall show no mercy; their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride on horses, arrayed like men of war against you, O daughter of Zion.

24 We have heard of their report, our hands have grown weak; anguish has seized us, and pains like those of a woman in labor.

25 Do not go out into the field, nor walk on the road; for the sword of the enemy and terror are all around.

26 O daughter of my people, put on sackcloth, and roll in ashes; mourn as for an only son, a bitter lamentation; For the destroyer will come upon us quickly.

27 I have set you as a watchtower among my people, as a stronghold, so that you may know and examine their ways.

28 They are all the most rebellious, and they go about murmuring; they are as hard as bronze and iron; they all walk corruptly.

29 The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed by the fire; in vain the refiner melts so diligently, for the wicked are not uprooted.

30 They will be called rejected silver, because the Lord has rejected them.

2 A formosa e delicada, a filha de Sião, eu deixarei desolada.

16 Assim diz o Senhor: Ponde-vos nos caminhos, e vede, e perguntai pelas veredas antigas, qual é o bom caminho, e andai por ele; e achareis descanso para as vossas almas: Mas eles dizem: Não andaremos.

17 Também pus atalaias sobre vós, dizendo: Estai atentos à voz da buzina: Mas dizem: Não escutaremos.

18 Portanto ouvi, vós, nações; e informa-te tu, ó congregação, do que se faz entre eles!

19 Ouve tu, ó terra! Eis que eu trarei mal sobre este povo, o próprio fruto dos seus pensamentos; porque não estão atentos às minhas palavras, e rejeitam a minha lei.

20 Para que pois me virá o incenso de Sabá e a melhor cana aromática de terras remotas? Vossos holocaustos não me agradam, nem me são suaves os vossos sacrifícios.

21 Portanto assim diz o Senhor: Eis que armarei tropeços a este povo, e tropeçarão neles pais e filhos juntamente: o vizinho e o seu companheiro perecerão.

22 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que um povo vem da terra do norte, e uma grande nação se levantará das bandas da terra.

23 Arco e lança trarão; eles são cruéis, e não usarão de misericórdia; a sua voz rugirá como o mar, e em cavalos irão montados, dispostos como homens de guerra contra ti, ó filha de Sião.

24 Ouvimos a sua fama, afrouxaram-se as nossas mãos; angústia nos tomou, e dores como de parturiente.

25 Não saias ao campo, nem andeis pelo caminho; porque espada do inimigo e espanto há em redor.

26 Ó filha do meu povo, cinge-te de saco, e revolve-te na cinza: pranteia como por um filho único, pranto de amarguras; porque presto virá o destruidor sobre nós.

27 Por torre de guarda te pus entre o meu povo, por fortaleza, para que soubesses e examinasses o seu caminho.

28 Todos eles são os mais rebeldes, e andam murmurando; são duros como bronze e ferro: todos eles andam corruptamente.

29 Já o fole se queimou, o chumbo se consumiu com o fogo: em vão vai fundindo o fundidor tão diligentemente, pois os maus não são arrancados.

30 Prata rejeitada lhes chamarão, porque o Senhor os rejeitou.

1 यरूशलेम की सड़कों पर घूमो, चारों ओर देखो और सोचो, उसके चौकों में खोजो। अगर तुम्हें कोई ऐसा मिले जो ईमानदारी से काम करता हो या सच्चाई की तलाश करता हो, तो मैं उन्हें माफ़ कर दूँगा।

2 भले ही वे कहते हैं, “भगवान की कसम,” वे झूठी कसम खाते हैं।

3 हे भगवान, क्या तुम सच नहीं देखते? तुमने उन्हें मारा, लेकिन उन्हें कोई दर्द नहीं हुआ; तुमने उन्हें खत्म कर दिया, लेकिन उन्होंने सुधार से इनकार कर दिया। उन्होंने अपने चेहरे चट्टान से भी सख्त कर लिए; उन्होंने लौटने से इनकार कर दिया।

4 लेकिन मैंने कहा, “ज़रूर ये बेकार हैं; ये बेवकूफ हैं, क्योंकि वे भगवान का रास्ता, अपने भगवान का कानून नहीं जानते।”

5 मैं अमीरों के पास जाकर उनसे बात करूँगा, क्योंकि वे भगवान का रास्ता, अपने भगवान का कानून जानते हैं। लेकिन इन्होंने एकमत होकर जुए को तोड़ दिया है और बंधनों को तोड़ दिया है।

6 इसलिए जंगल से एक शेर उन पर हमला करेगा, रेगिस्तान से एक भेड़िया उन्हें तबाह कर देगा; एक तेंदुआ उनके शहरों पर नज़र रखेगा; जो कोई उनमें से बाहर जाएगा, वह टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो जाएगा; क्योंकि उनके गुनाह बहुत हैं, वे बहुत पीछे हट गए हैं।

7 मैं तुम्हें इसके लिए कैसे माफ़ करूँ? तुम्हारे बच्चों ने मुझे छोड़ दिया है और उन लोगों की कसम खाई है जो भगवान नहीं हैं। जब मैंने उन्हें पेट भर खाना खिलाया, तो उन्होंने व्यभिचार किया और वेश्याओं के घरों में झुंड बनाकर इकट्ठा हुए।

8 वे भरे-पूरे घोड़ों की तरह सुबह-सुबह उठते हैं, और हर कोई अपने पड़ोसी की पत्नी के पीछे हिनहिनाता है।

9 क्या मुझे इन चीज़ों की सज़ा नहीं देनी चाहिए, यहोवा कहता है, या मुझे ऐसे देश से अपना बदला नहीं लेना चाहिए?

10 उनकी दीवारों पर चढ़ो और उन्हें तोड़ दो (लेकिन पूरी तरह से बर्बाद मत करो); उनकी दीवारों को हटा दो, क्योंकि वे यहोवा की नहीं हैं।

11 क्योंकि इस्राएल और यहूदा के घराने ने मेरे साथ बहुत धोखा किया है, यहोवा कहता है। 

12 वे यहोवा को नकारते हैं और कहते हैं, “वह यहोवा नहीं है; हम पर कोई विपत्ति नहीं पड़ेगी; हम तलवार या अकाल नहीं देखेंगे।”

13 भविष्यद्वक्ता भी हवा की तरह होंगे, क्योंकि उनके पास वचन नहीं है; उनके साथ ऐसा ही होगा।

14 इसलिए, सेनाओं का परमेश्वर यहोवा यह कहता है: “क्योंकि तुमने ऐसा वचन कहा है, इसलिए देखो, मैं अपने वचनों को तुम्हारे मुँह में आग और इस लोगों को लकड़ी बना दूँगा, और वे भस्म हो जाएँगे।

15 हे इस्राएल के घराने, देखो, मैं तुम्हारे विरुद्ध दूर से एक राष्ट्र लाऊँगा, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, एक शक्तिशाली राष्ट्र, एक प्राचीन राष्ट्र, एक ऐसा राष्ट्र जिसकी भाषा तुम नहीं जानते, और न ही तुम समझोगे कि वे क्या कहते हैं।

16 उनका तरकश खुली कब्र की तरह है; वे सभी शक्तिशाली योद्धा हैं।”

17 वे तुम्हारी फसल और तुम्हारी रोटी खा जाएँगे, जिसे तुम्हारे बेटे और बेटियाँ खाते; वे तुम्हारी भेड़ें और तुम्हारे मवेशी खा जाएँगे; वे तुम्हारी दाखलताओं और तुम्हारे अंजीर के पेड़ों को खा जाएँगे; वे तुम्हारे उन मज़बूत शहरों को तलवार से तबाह कर देंगे जिन पर तुमने भरोसा किया था।

18 फिर भी, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, मैं उन दिनों में भी तुम्हें पूरी तरह खत्म नहीं करूँगा।

19 और जब तुम कहोगे, “हमारे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने हमारे साथ ये सब क्यों किया?” तो तुम उन्हें जवाब दोगे, “जैसे तुमने मुझे छोड़ दिया और अपने देश में दूसरे देवताओं की सेवा की, वैसे ही तुम उस देश में विदेशियों की सेवा करोगे जो तुम्हारा नहीं है।”

20 याकूब के घराने में यह ऐलान करो और यहूदा में इसका ऐलान करो:

21 “यह सुनो, हे मूर्ख और नासमझ लोगों, जिनके पास आँखें हैं पर वे देखते नहीं, जिनके पास कान हैं पर वे सुनते नहीं।

22 क्या तुम मुझसे नहीं डरते?” यहोवा की यह वाणी है। क्या तुम मुझसे नहीं डरते, जिसने रेत को समुद्र के लिए एक सीमा बना दिया है, एक हमेशा का नियम जिसे वह पार नहीं कर सकता? चाहे उसकी लहरें उठें, वे हावी नहीं होंगी; चाहे वे गरजें, वे उसे पार नहीं कर पाएंगी।

23 लेकिन इस लोगों का दिल जिद्दी और बागी है; वे बागी हो गए हैं और चले गए हैं। 

24 और वे अपने दिल में यह नहीं कहते, “अब हम अपने भगवान यहोवा से डरें, जो अपने समय पर बारिश देता है, पहली और आखिरी दोनों तरह की बारिश, और हमारे लिए फसल के तय हफ़्तों को मानता है।” 

25 तुम्हारे गुनाहों ने इन चीज़ों को दूर कर दिया है, और तुम्हारे पापों ने तुमसे अच्छाई रोक दी है। 

26 क्योंकि मेरे लोगों में बुरे लोग पाए जाते हैं; हर कोई चिड़िया की तरह घात लगाए रहता है; वे इंसानों को पकड़ने के लिए जाल बिछाते हैं।

 27 जैसे चिड़ियों से भरा पिंजरा होता है, वैसे ही उनके घर धोखे से भरे होते हैं; इसलिए वे बड़े और अमीर बन गए हैं। 

28 वे मोटे हो जाते हैं, वे चिकने हो जाते हैं, और बुरे लोगों के कामों से भी आगे निकल जाते हैं; वे अनाथों का इंसाफ़ नहीं करते, ताकि वे कामयाब हो सकें; न ही वे ज़रूरतमंदों का इंसाफ़ करते हैं। 

29 क्या मुझे इन चीज़ों की सज़ा नहीं देनी चाहिए? भगवान कहता है; क्या मुझे ऐसे देश से अपना बदला नहीं लेना चाहिए? 

30 देश में एक भयानक और डरावना काम हुआ है।

31 भविष्यवक्ता झूठी भविष्यवाणी करते हैं, और पुजारी अपने अधिकार से राज करते हैं; और मेरे लोगों को ऐसा ही पसंद है। आखिर में तुम क्या करोगे?
