 सुलैमान के नीतिवचन 29

1 जो व्यक्ति बार-बार डाँटा जाता है, वह हठ करता है। वह अचानक बिना किसी उपाय के नष्ट हो जाएगा।

2 जब धर्मी लोग ऊँचा उठते हैं, तो लोग आनन्दित होते हैं, परन्तु जब दुष्ट शासन करते हैं, तो लोग कराहते हैं।

3 जो बुद्धि से प्रेम करता है, वह अपने पिता को प्रसन्न करता है, परन्तु वेश्याओं का साथी अपना धन नष्ट कर देता है।

4 न्यायी राजा देश की रक्षा करता है, परन्तु घूसखोर उसे नष्ट कर देता है।

5 जो अपने पड़ोसी की चापलूसी करता है, वह उसके पैरों के लिए जाल बिछाता है।

6 दुष्ट के अपराध में फंदा होता है, परन्तु धर्मी जयजयकार करता और आनन्दित होता है।

7 धर्मी गरीब का मुकद्दमा पूछता है, परन्तु दुष्ट उसे नहीं समझता।

8 तिरस्कार करनेवाले नगर में आग लगा देते हैं, परन्तु बुद्धिमान क्रोध को दूर कर देता है। 

9 जो बुद्धिमान मनुष्य मूर्ख के साथ युक्ति करता है, चाहे वह क्रोधित हो या हँस रहा हो, उसे कभी चैन नहीं मिलता।

10 खून के प्यासे लोग धर्मी लोगों से घृणा करते हैं, परन्तु धर्मी लोग उनका भला चाहते हैं।

11 मूर्ख अपना सारा क्रोध निकाल देता है, परन्तु बुद्धिमान उसे काबू में रखता है।

12 जो शासक झूठी बातें सुनता है, उसके सभी सेवक दुष्ट होते हैं।

13 गरीब और लुटेरे मिलते हैं, और यहोवा दोनों की आँखों में ज्योति जगाता है।

14 जो राजा गरीबों का न्याय सच्चाई से करता है, वह अपना सिंहासन सदा के लिए स्थिर रखता है।

15 छड़ी और डाँट बुद्धि देती है, परन्तु जो बालक अकेला छोड़ दिया जाता है, वह अपनी माता को लज्जित करता है।

16 जब दुष्ट बढ़ते हैं, तो अपराध भी बढ़ते हैं, परन्तु धर्मी उनका पतन देखेंगे।

17 अपने बेटे को ताड़ना दे, तो वह तुझे विश्राम देगा; वह तेरे मन को आनन्दित करेगा।

18 जहाँ भविष्यवाणी नहीं होती, वहाँ लोग नाश हो जाते हैं, परन्तु धन्य है वह जो व्यवस्था का पालन करता है।

19 दास बातों से नहीं सुधारा जाएगा, क्योंकि वह समझता तो है, परन्तु तेरी बात नहीं सुनता।

20 क्या तुमने किसी ऐसे आदमी को देखा है जो बातों में जल्दबाज़ हो? उससे ज़्यादा उम्मीद मूर्ख से है।

21 जो अपने नौकर को बचपन से ही प्यार से पालता-पोसता है, वह आखिरकार उसका बेटा बनना चाहेगा।

22 क्रोधी आदमी झगड़ा भड़काता है, और झुंझलाहट में भरा आदमी अपराधों को बढ़ाता है।

23 घमंडी आदमी को नीचा दिखाता है, लेकिन नम्र आत्मा सम्मान पाती है।

24 जो चोर का साथी है, वह अपनी जान से नफरत करता है; वह शाप सुनता है और उसकी निंदा नहीं करता।

25 मनुष्य का भय फंदा लाता है, लेकिन जो यहोवा पर भरोसा रखता है, वह सुरक्षित रहेगा।

26 बहुत से लोग राजकुमार का चेहरा ढूँढ़ते हैं, लेकिन हर एक का न्याय यहोवा की ओर से होता है। 

27 अन्यायी आदमी धर्मी के लिए घृणास्पद है, और जो सीधे रास्ते पर चलता है वह दुष्टों के लिए घृणास्पद है।

1 A man who is often rebuked hardens his neck. He will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.

2 When the righteous are exalted, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people sigh.

3 A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but a companion of prostitutes wastes his wealth.

4 A king with judgment upholds the land, but a lover of bribes destroys it.

5 A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare, but the righteous sings and is glad.

7 The righteous inquires about the cause of the poor, but the wicked does not understand it.

8 Scornful men set a city on fire, but the wise turn away wrath. 

9 A wise man who plots with a fool, whether he is angry or laughing, will have no rest.

10 Bloodthirsty men hate the upright, but the upright seek their good.

11 A fool vents all his anger, but a wise man keeps it under control.

12 A ruler who listens to lying words will find all his servants wicked.

13 The poor and the extortioner meet, and the Lord enlightens the eyes of both.

14 A king who judges the poor with truth will establish his throne forever.

15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

16 When the wicked increase, transgressions increase, but the righteous will see their downfall.

17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your soul.

18 Where there is no prophecy, the people perish, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

19 A servant will not be corrected with words, for though he understands, he will not listen to you.

20 Have you seen a man hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

21 When one gently nurtures his servant from his youth, he will eventually want to be his son.

22 An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man multiplies transgressions.

23 A man's pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.

24 He who has a partnership with a thief hates his own soul; he hears cursing and does not denounce him.

25 The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord will be kept safe.

26 Many seek the face of a prince, but every man's judgment comes from the Lord. 

27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, and he whose ways are upright is an abomination to the wicked.

2 Quando os justos se engrandecem, o povo se alegra, mas quando o ímpio domina, o povo suspira.

3 O homem que ama a sabedoria alegra a seu pai, mas o companheiro de prostitutas desperdiça a fazenda.

4 O rei com juízo sustém a terra, mas o amigo de peitas a transtorna.

5 O homem que lisonjeia a seu próximo, arma uma rede aos seus passos.

6 Na transgressão do homem mau há laço, mas o justo canta e regozija-se.

7 Informa-se o justo da causa dos pobres, mas o ímpio não compreende isso.

8 Os homens escarnecedores abrasam a cidade, mas os sábios desviam a ira.

9 O homem sábio que planteia com o tolo, quer se perturbe quer se ria, não terá descanso.

10 Os homens sanguinários aborrecem aquele que é sincero, mas os retos procuram o seu bem.

11 Um tolo expande toda a sua ira mas o sábio a encobre e reprime.

12 O governador que dá atenção às palavras mentirosas, achará que todos os seus servos são ímpios.

13 O pobre e o usurário se encontram, e o Senhor alumia os olhos de ambos.

14 O rei, que julga os pobres conforme a verdade, firmará o seu trono para sempre.

15 A vara e a repreensão dão sabedoria, mas o rapaz entregue a si mesmo envergonha a sua mãe.

16 Quando os ímpios se multiplicam, multiplicam-se as transgressões, mas os justos verão a sua queda.

17 Castiga a teu filho, e te fará descansar; e dará delícias à tua alma.

18 Não havendo profecia, o povo se corrompe; mas o que guarda a lei esse é bem-aventurado.

19 O servo não se emendará com palavras, porque, ainda que te entenda, não te atenderá.

20 Tens visto um homem precipitado nas suas palavras? Maior esperança há de um tolo do que dele.

21 Quando alguém cria delicadamente o seu servo desde a mocidade, por derradeiro ele quererá ser seu filho.

22 O homem iracundo levanta contendas; e o furioso multiplica as transgressões.

23 A soberba do homem o abaterá, mas o humilde de espírito obterá honra.

24 O que tem parte com o ladrão aborrece a sua própria alma: ouve maldições, e não o denuncia.

25 O receio do homem armará laços, mas o que confia no Senhor será posto em alto retiro.

26 Muitos buscam a face do príncipe, mas o juízo de cada um vem do Senhor.

27 Abominação é para os justos o homem iníquo, e abominação é para o ímpio o de retos caminhos.

2 देश के अपराध के कारण उसके हाकिम बहुत हैं, परन्तु बुद्धिमान और समझदार लोगों के बल से वह स्थिर रहता है।

3 जो दरिद्र पर अत्याचार करता है, वह उस मूसलाधार वर्षा के समान है जो अन्न नहीं छोड़ती।

4 जो व्यवस्था को त्याग देते हैं, वे दुष्टों की प्रशंसा करते हैं, परन्तु जो व्यवस्था का पालन करते हैं, वे उनसे लड़ते हैं।

5 दुष्ट लोग न्याय को नहीं समझते, परन्तु जो यहोवा को खोजते हैं, वे सब कुछ समझते हैं।

6 जो दरिद्र खराई से चलता है, वह उस धनी से उत्तम है जो कुटिल चाल चलता है।

7 जो व्यवस्था का पालन करता है, वह बुद्धिमान पुत्र है, परन्तु पेटू लोगों का साथी अपने पिता को लज्जित करता है। 

8 जो सूद और कर से अपना धन बढ़ाता है, वह उसे उस व्यक्ति के लिए इकट्ठा करता है जो दरिद्रों पर दया करता है।

9 जो व्यवस्था सुनने से कान फेर लेता है, उसकी प्रार्थना भी घृणित है।

10 जो धर्मी को कुमार्ग पर भटकाता है, वह अपने ही गड़हे में गिरता है, परन्तु धर्मी को अच्छी वस्तुएँ मिलती हैं।

11 धनी अपनी दृष्टि में बुद्धिमान होता है, परन्तु समझवाला दरिद्र उसे परख लेता है।

12 जब धर्मी जयवन्त होता है, तो बड़ा आनन्द होता है, परन्तु जब दुष्ट उठ खड़े होते हैं, तो लोग छिप जाते हैं।

13 जो अपने पाप छिपा रखता है, उसका काम सफल नहीं होता, परन्तु जो उन्हें मान लेता और छोड़ देता है, उस पर दया की जाएगी।

14 धन्य है वह मनुष्य जो सदा भय मानता है, परन्तु जो अपना मन कठोर कर लेता है, वह विपत्ति में पड़ता है।

15 कंगाल लोगों पर दुष्ट शासक गरजते हुए सिंह या भूखे भालू के समान होता है।

16 जो शासक समझ से रहित होता है, वह अन्धेर भी बढ़ाता है, परन्तु जो लोभ से घृणा करता है, वह अपने दिन बढ़ाता है।

17 मनुष्य के लोहू से लदा हुआ मनुष्य गड़हे में भाग जाएगा; कोई उसे रोक नहीं पाएगा।

18 जो खराई से चलता है, वह बच जाएगा, परन्तु जो कुटिल चाल चलता है, वह शीघ्र ही गिर जाएगा।

19 जो अपनी ज़मीन जोतता है, उसके पास भरपूर रोटी होगी, परन्तु जो आलसी लोगों के पीछे चलता है, वह गरीबी से तृप्त होगा।

20 एक विश्वासयोग्य मनुष्य पर बहुत आशीर्वाद होंगे, परन्तु जो धनी बनने के लिए दौड़ता है, वह दण्ड से नहीं बचेगा।

21 व्यक्तित्व का आदर करना अच्छा नहीं है, क्योंकि एक टुकड़े रोटी के लिए भी मनुष्य अपराध करता है।

22 जिसकी बुरी नज़र होती है, वह धन के पीछे भागता है, परन्तु यह नहीं जानता कि उस पर दरिद्रता आ पड़ेगी। 

23 जो किसी को डाँटता है, वह बाद में चापलूसी करनेवाले से अधिक अनुग्रह पाता है।

24 जो अपने पिता या अपनी माता को लूटता है, और कहता है, 'कोई अपराध नहीं है,' वह नाश करनेवाले का साथी है।

25 जो मन का घमण्डी है, वह झगड़ा भड़काता है, परन्तु जो यहोवा पर भरोसा रखता है, वह धनी बनेगा।

26 जो अपने ऊपर भरोसा रखता है, वह मूर्ख है, परन्तु जो बुद्धिमानी से चलता है, वह बचता है।

27 जो कंगाल को देता है, उसे घटी नहीं होती, परन्तु जो अपनी आँखें फेर लेता है, उस पर बहुत शाप पड़ता है।

1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are as confident as a young lion.

2 Because of the transgression of the land, many are its princes, but by the power of prudent and understanding men it will continue.

3 A poor man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no grain.

4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law fight against them.

5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand everything.

6 Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than one whose ways are perverse, even though he is rich.

7 He who keeps the law is a wise son, but a companion of gluttons shames his father. 

8 He who increases his wealth by usury and levy gathers it for one who is kind to the poor.

9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

10 He who causes the upright to wander into an evil way will fall into his own pit, but the upright will inherit good things.

11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the poor who has understanding searches him out.

12 When the righteous triumph, there is great joy, but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.

13 He who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

14 Blessed is the man who fears always, but he who hardens his heart will fall into mischief. 

15 Like a roaring lion or a hungry bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

16 A ruler lacking in understanding also increases oppression, but he who hates greed will prolong his days.

17 A man burdened with human blood will flee to the pit; no one will restrain him.

18 He who walks blamelessly will be saved, but he who is perverse in his ways will quickly fall.

19 He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows idlers will have his fill of poverty.

20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who rushes to be rich will not go unpunished.

21 Respecting personhood is not good, for even for a morsel of bread a man will transgress.

22 He who has an evil eye runs after riches, but does not know that poverty will come upon him. 

23 He who rebukes a man will find favor later than he who flatters with his tongue.

24 He who robs his father or his mother, and says, 'There is no transgression,' is a companion of a destroyer.

25 He who is proud in spirit stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will be made rich.

26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered.

27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

20 O homem fiel abundará em bênçãos, mas o que se apressa a enriquecer não ficará sem castigo.

21 Ter respeito à aparência de pessoas não é bom, porque até por um bocado de pão o homem prevaricará.

22 Aquele que tem um olho mau corre atrás das riquezas, mas não sabe que há de vir sobre ele a pobreza.

23 O que repreende ao homem achará depois favor do que aquele que lisonjeia com a língua.

24 O que rouba a seu pai, ou a sua mãe, e diz: Não há transgressão, companheiro é do destruidor.

25 O altivo de ânimo levanta contendas, mas o que confia no Senhor engordará.

26 O que confia no seu próprio coração é insensato, mas o que anda sabiamente escapará.

27 O que dá ao pobre não terá necessidade, mas o que esconde os seus olhos terá muitas maldições.

1 कल के विषय में घमण्ड मत करो, क्योंकि तुम नहीं जानते कि दिन में क्या होगा।

2 परदेशी तुम्हारी प्रशंसा करे, न कि तुम्हारे मुँह से; परदेशी की प्रशंसा करे, न कि तुम्हारे होठों से।

3 पत्थर भारी है, और रेत भी भारी है; परन्तु मूर्ख का क्रोध इन दोनों से भारी है।

4 क्रोध क्रूर और भयंकर क्रोध है, परन्तु ईर्ष्या के आगे कौन टिक सकता है?

5 खुली हुई डाँट छिपे हुए प्रेम से उत्तम है।

6 प्रेमी के घाव सच्चे होते हैं, परन्तु बैरी के चुम्बन कपटपूर्ण होते हैं।

7 तृप्त मन मधु के छत्ते को कुतरता है, परन्तु भूखे मन को हर कड़वी वस्तु मीठी लगती है।

8 जैसे पक्षी अपने घोंसले से भटक जाता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य अपने स्थान से भटक जाता है। 

9 तेल और इत्र मन को आनन्दित करते हैं, वैसे ही मित्र का रोग भी अच्छी सलाह से।

10 अपने मित्र को, न अपने पिता के मित्र को, और न अपने विपत्ति के दिन अपने भाई के घर में प्रवेश करना। दूर के भाई से निकट पड़ोसी उत्तम है।

11 हे मेरे पुत्र, बुद्धिमान हो और मेरे मन को आनन्दित कर, तब मैं अपने तुच्छ जाननेवाले को उत्तर दे सकूँगा।

12 बुद्धिमान मनुष्य विपत्ति को आते देखकर छिप जाता है, परन्तु भोले लोग आगे बढ़कर दण्ड पाते हैं।

13 जब कोई पराए का जामिन हो, तो उसका वस्त्र लेकर पराए के लिए गिरवी रख लेना।

14 जो कोई भोर को ऊँचे स्वर से अपने मित्र को आशीर्वाद दे, वह शापित गिना जाएगा।

15 बरसात के दिन का लगातार टपकना और झगड़ालू स्त्री एक समान हैं।

16 जो उसे रोकता है, वह वायु को रोकता है, और उसका दाहिना हाथ तेल को चमकाता है।

17 जैसे लोहा लोहे को तेज़ करता है, वैसे ही एक मनुष्य दूसरे मनुष्य के मुख को तेज़ करता है।

18 जो अंजीर के पेड़ की देखभाल करता है, वह उसका फल खाएगा, और जो अपने स्वामी की रक्षा करता है, उसका आदर होगा।

19 जैसे जल में मुख मुख से मुख की ओर होता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य का मन मनुष्य से।

20 नरक और विनाश कभी तृप्त नहीं होते, और मनुष्य की आँखें कभी तृप्त नहीं होतीं।

21 कुठाली चाँदी के लिए है, और भट्ठी सोने के लिए है, और मनुष्य की परीक्षा प्रशंसा से होती है।

22 चाहे तू मूर्ख को जौ के बीच ओखली से कुचल दे, तौभी उसकी मूर्खता उससे दूर नहीं होगी।

23 अपने झुण्ड की दशा जानो; झुण्ड पर ध्यान दो।

24 क्योंकि धन सदा नहीं रहता; और क्या मुकुट पीढ़ी-दर-पीढ़ी बना रहना चाहिए? 

25 जब घास और कोंपलें फूटने लगें, तब पहाड़ों से साग-पात इकट्ठा करना।

26 मेमने तुम्हारे वस्त्र के लिये, और बकरियाँ खेत की कीमत के लिये होंगी।

27 और बकरियों का दूध तेरे, तेरे घराने और तेरी दासियों के भोजन के लिये बहुत होगा।

1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

2 Let a stranger praise you, and not your own mouth; a foreigner, and not your own lips.

3 A stone is heavy, and the sand is heavy; but the anger of a fool is heavier than both.

4 Wrath is cruel and outrageous anger, but who can stand before envy?

5 Open rebuke is better than hidden love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a lover, but the kisses of an hater are deceitful.

7 A full soul gnaws at the honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

8 As a bird that wanders from its nest, so is a man who wanders from his place. 

9 Oil and perfume rejoice the heart, so does the illness of a friend with kind advice.

10 Do not forsake your friend, nor your father's friend, nor enter your brother's house in the day of your adversity. Better is a neighbor near than a brother far away.

11 Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart, that I may have an answer for him who despises me.

12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.

13 When someone becomes surety for a stranger, take his garment and take it to pledge for a stranger.

14 Whoever blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning will be counted a curse.

15 The continual dripping of a rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

16 He who restrains her restrains the wind, and her right hand strikes oil.

17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens the countenance of another.

18 He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who watches over his master will be honored.

19 As face responds to face in water, so the heart of man to man.

20 Hell and destruction are never satisfied, and the eyes of man are never satisfied.

21 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tested by praise.

22 Though you crush a fool with a mortar among grains of barley, his folly will not depart from him.

23 Know the condition of your flock; set your heart on the herd.

24 For riches do not last forever; and should a crown endure from generation to generation? 

25 When the grass appears and the young shoots appear, then gather the herbs from the mountains.

26 The lambs will be for your clothing, and the goats for the price of the field.

27 And there will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the food of your maidens.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out everything.

3 For heaven above, and earth beneath, and the heart of kings, there is no searching.

4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.

5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Do not boast in the presence of the king, nor stand in the place of great men.

7 For it is better that they say to you, 'Come up here,' than that you should be humbled before the prince whom your eyes have seen. 

8 Do not be hasty in your argument, lest in the end you not know what to do, and your neighbor may confound you.

9 Plead your case with your neighbor himself, and do not discover another's secret.

2 A glória de Deus é encobrir o negócio; mas a glória dos reis é tudo investigar.

3 Para a altura dos céus, e para a profundeza da terra, e para o coração dos reis, não há investigação alguma.

4 Tira da prata as escórias, e sairá vaso para o fundidor.

5 Tira o ímpio da presença do rei, e o seu trono se firmará na justiça.

5 बुद्धिमान मनुष्य बलवान होता है, और ज्ञानी मनुष्य बल को दृढ़ करता है।

6 क्योंकि बुद्धिमानी भरी सलाह से तू युद्ध करेगा, और बहुत से सलाहकारों के द्वारा विजय प्राप्त होगी।

25 परन्तु जो डाँटते हैं, वे प्रसन्न होंगे, और उन पर भलाई की आशीष आएगी।

 Proverbs of Solomon 24

1 Do not envy evil men, nor desire to be with them,

2 For their heart plots robbery, and their lips speak wickedly.

3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.

4 And by knowledge the chambers are filled with all precious and pleasant things.

5 A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge strengthens strength.

6 For by wise counsel you will wage war, and in the multitude of counselors there is victory.

7 All wisdom is too high for a fool; he will not open his mouth in the gate.

8 He who devises evil will be called a teacher of evil devices.

9 The thoughts of a fool are sin, and a scoffer is an abomination to men.

10 If you are weak in the day of adversity, your strength will be small. 

11 Deliver those who are destined for death, and those who are led away to slaughter, if you can bring them out.

12 If you say, "Behold, we do not know," will not He who weighs the hearts consider it? And He who looks at your soul, will not He who considers your life know it? Will He not repay a man according to his work?

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good, and the honeycomb, for it is sweet to your taste.

14 Such will be the knowledge of wisdom for your soul; if you find it, there will be a reward for you, and your expectation will not be cut off.

15 Do not spy on the dwelling of the righteous, O wicked man, nor destroy his chamber.

16 For a righteous man falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble over evil.

17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, nor let your heart be glad when he stumbles. 

18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his anger from him.

19 Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked.

20 For the evil one will have no reward, and the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.

21 Fear the Lord, my son, and the king, and do not have anything to do with those who seek change.

22 For their calamity will suddenly arise, and who can know their ruin?

23 These are also proverbs of the wise: Showing respect for persons in judgment is not good.

24 Whoever says to the wicked, 'You are righteous,' will be cursed by the peoples, and nations will abhor him.

25 But those who rebuke will find delight, and a blessing of good will come upon them. 

26 Kiss with your lips the one who answers with upright words.

27 Prepare your work outside, and make it ready in the field, and then build your house.

28 Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause; why would you deceive with your lips?

29 Do not say, 'As he did to me, so I will do to him; I will repay each person according to their work.'

30 I passed by the field of the sluggard, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 And behold, it was all overgrown with thistles, its surface overgrown with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

32 When I saw it, I considered it; and seeing it, I received instruction.

33 A little sleep, slumbering a little, folding your hands a little to lie down;

34 So poverty will come upon you like a thief, and want like an armed man.

1 Não tenhas inveja dos homens malignos, nem desejes estar com eles,

2 Porque o seu coração medita a rapina, e os seus lábios falam maliciosamente.

3 Com a sabedoria se edifica a casa, e com a inteligência ela se firma:

4 E pelo conhecimento se encherão as câmaras de todas as substâncias preciosas e deleitáveis.

5 Um varão sábio é forte, e o varão de conhecimento consolida a força.

6 Porque com conselhos prudentes tu farás a guerra; e há vitória na multidão dos conselheiros.

7 É demasiadamente alta para o tolo toda a sabedoria; na porta não abrirá a sua boca.

8 Aquele que cuida em fazer mal, mestre de maus intentos o chamarão.

9 O pensamento do tolo é pecado, e é abominável aos homens o escarnecedor.

10 Se te mostrares frouxo no dia da angústia, a tua força será pequena.

11 Livra os que estão destinados à morte, e os que são levados para a matança, se os puderes retirar.

12 Se disseres: Eis que o não sabemos: porventura aquele que pondera os corações não o considerará? E aquele que atenta para a tua alma não o saberá? Não pagará ele ao homem conforme a sua obra?

13 Come mel, meu filho, porque é bom, e o favo de mel, que é doce ao teu paladar.

14 Tal será o conhecimento da sabedoria para a tua alma: se a achares, haverá para ti galardão, e não será cortada a tua expectação.

15 Não espies a habitação do justo, ó ímpio, nem assoles a sua câmara.

16 Porque sete vezes cairá o justo, e se levantará; mas os ímpios tropeçarão no mal.

17 Quando cair o teu inimigo, não te alegres, nem quando tropeçar se regozije o teu coração.

18 Para que o Senhor isso não veja, e seja mau aos seus olhos, e desvie dele a sua ira.

19 Não te aflijas por causa dos malfeitores, nem tenhas inveja dos ímpios.

20 Porque o maligno não terá galardão algum, e a lâmpada dos ímpios se apagará.

21 Teme ao Senhor, filho meu, e ao rei, e não te entremetas com os que buscam mudanças.

22 Porque de repente se levantará a sua perdição, e a ruína deles quem a conhecerá?

23 Também estes são provérbios dos sábios: Ter respeito a pessoas no juízo não é bom.

24 O que disser ao ímpio: Justo és: os povos o amaldiçoarão, as nações o detestarão.

25 Mas para os que o repreenderem haverá delícias, e sobre eles virá a bênção do bem.

26 Beija com os lábios o que responde com palavras retas.

31 E eis que toda estava cheia de cardos, e a sua superfície coberta de ortigas, e a sua parede de pedra estava derrubada.

32 O que tendo eu visto, o considerei; e, vendo-o, recebi instrução.

33 Um pouco de sono, adormecendo um pouco, encruzando as mãos outro pouco, para estar deitado;

2 और यदि तू पेटू है, तो अपनी गर्दन पर छुरी रख।

3 उसके स्वादिष्ट भोजन की लालसा न कर, क्योंकि वह झूठ की रोटी है।

4 धनवान बनने के लिए परिश्रम न कर; अपनी बुद्धि त्याग दे।

18 क्योंकि अन्त अवश्य ही अच्छा है; तेरी आशा न टूटेगी।

19 हे मेरे पुत्र, सुन और बुद्धिमान बन, और अपने मन को सही मार्ग पर चला।

20 दाखमधु के अधिक पीनेवालों के बीच न रहना, और न मांस के अधिक खानेवालों के बीच रहना।

21 क्योंकि पियक्कड़ और पेटू लोग कंगाल हो जाएँगे, और ऊँघने से वस्त्र पुराने हो जाएँगे।

22 अपने पिता की सुन, जिसने तुझे जन्म दिया है, और अपनी माता को जब वह बूढ़ी हो जाए, तुच्छ न जान।

23 सच्चाई को मोल ले, बेचना नहीं; बुद्धि, शिक्षा और विवेक को मोल ले।

31 जब दाखमधु लाल हो, और कटोरे में चमकती हो और आसानी से उतर जाए, तब उसकी ओर न देखना।

32 अन्त में वह साँप की नाईं डसेगी, और नाग के समान डंक मारेगी।

33 तुम्हारी आँखें पराई स्त्रियों को देखेंगी, और तुम्हारा मन उल्टी-सीधी बातें बोलेगा। 

34 और तुम समुद्र के बीच सोनेवाले वा मस्तूल के ऊपर सोनेवाले के समान होगे। 

35 और तुम कहोगे, 'उन्होंने मुझे मारा, और मुझे कुछ चोट नहीं लगी; उन्होंने मुझे मारा, और मुझे कुछ महसूस नहीं हुआ। मैं कब जागूँगा? मैं उसे फिर ढूँढ़ूँगा।'

1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is set before you.

2 And put a knife to your throat if you are a glutton.

3 Do not desire his dainty food, for it is bread of lies.

4 Do not labor to get rich; give up your own wisdom.

5 Will you fix your eyes on that which is nothing? For it will surely grow into wings and fly away like an eagle to the sky.

6 Do not eat the bread of him who has evil eyes, nor desire his dainty food.

7 For as he thinks in his heart, so it is; he will say to you, 'Eat and drink,' but his heart will not be with you.

8 You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten and lose your sweet words. 

9 Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

10 Do not remove ancient landmarks, nor enter the possessions of the fatherless.

11 For their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.

12 Apply your heart to discipline, and your ears to words of knowledge.

13 Do not withhold discipline from a child, for if you beat him with the rod, he will not die.

14 You will beat him with the rod and deliver his soul from hell.

15 My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice, even my own.

16 And my reins will rejoice when your lips speak right things.

17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be in the fear of the Lord all the day long. 

18 For there is indeed a good end; your hope will not be cut off.

19 Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way.

20 Do not be among heavy drinkers of wine, nor among gluttons of meat.

21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will wear out the garments.

22 Listen to your father who gave you birth, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

23 Buy truth, and do not sell it; wisdom, instruction, and prudence.

24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise man will have joy in him.

25 Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who gave you birth rejoice. 

26 Give me your heart, my son, and let your eyes observe my ways.

27 For a prostitute is a deep pit, and a strange woman a narrow well.

28 She also, like a robber, lies in wait and increases the wicked among men.

29 Whose are the woes? Whose are the sorrows? Whose are the fights? Whose are the complaints? Whose are the wounds without cause? And who have red eyes?

30 Those who linger over wine, those who go after mixed drinks.

31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.

32 In the end it will bite like a snake and sting like a viper.

33 Your eyes will look at strange women, and your heart will speak perverse things. 

34 And you will be like one who sleeps in the middle of the sea, or like one who sleeps on the top of a mast. 

35 And you will say, 'They struck me, and it did not hurt; they beat me, and I did not feel it. When will I awake? I will seek her again.'
