1 Eis que tudo isto viram os meus olhos, e os meus ouvidos o ouviram e entenderam.

2 Como vós o sabeis, o sei eu também: não vos sou inferior.

3 Mas eu falarei ao Todo-poderoso; e quero defender-me perante Deus.

4 Vós porém sois inventores de mentiras, e vós todos médicos que não valem nada.

5 Oxalá vos calásseis de todo, que isso seria a vossa sabedoria!

6 Ouvi agora a minha defesa, e escutai os argumentos dos meus lábios.

7 Porventura por Deus falareis perversidade e por ele enunciareis mentiras?

8 Fareis aceitação da sua pessoa? Contendereis por Deus?

9 Ser-vos-ia bom, se ele vos esquadrinhasse? Ou zombareis dele, como se zomba de qualquer homem?

10 Certamente vos repreenderá, se em oculto fizerdes distinção de pessoas.

11 Porventura não vos espantará a sua alteza? E não cairá sobre vós o seu temor?

12 As vossas memórias são como a cinza: as vossas alturas como alturas de lodo.

13 Calai-vos perante mim, e falarei eu, e venha sobre mim o que vier.

1 तब अय्यूब ने उत्तर दिया,

8 या धरती से बात करो, और वह तुम्हें सिखाएगी; समुद्र की मछलियाँ भी तुम्हें बता देंगी।

9 इन सब बातों से कौन नहीं समझता कि यह सब यहोवा के हाथ का काम है,

10 कि सब प्राणियों का प्राण, और सब मनुष्यों के शरीर की श्वास तेरे हाथ में है?

11 जैसे जीभ भोजन को परखती है, क्या कान शब्दों को नहीं परखता?

12 बूढ़ों के पास बुद्धि होती है, और लम्बी आयु के पास समझ होती है।

13 बुद्धि और शक्ति उसी में हैं; सलाह और समझ है.

14 देखो, वह उसे तोड़ देगा, और वह फिर न बनेगा; और जिसके लिए यह बंद हो जाएगा, उसके लिए इसे खोला नहीं जाएगा।

15 देखो, वह जल को रोक लेता है, और वह सूख जाता है; और उन्हें जाने दो, और वे पृथ्वी को उलट देंगे।

20 वह भरोसे रखनेवालों की बोली छीन लेता है, और बूढ़ों की समझ छीन लेता है।

21 वह हाकिमों को तुच्छ जानता है, और बलवानों की कमर ढीली कर देता है।

22 वह अन्धकार की गहराई को प्रगट करता है, और मृत्यु की छाया को प्रकाश में लाता है।

23 वह जातियों को बढ़ाता और नष्ट करता है; लोगों को तितर-बितर करता है, और उन्हें फिर वापस लाता है।

24 वह पृथ्वी के देश देश के हाकिमों के मन को हर लेता है, और उन्हें जंगल में मार्गहीन भटकाता है।

25 वे अन्धकार में टटोलते हैं, और उन को ज्योति नहीं मिलती; वह उन्हें शराबियों की तरह पागल बना देता है।

Job Defends Himself Against the Accusations of His Friends

1 Then Job answered and said:

2 Surely you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

3 I also have a heart like yours, and I am not inferior to you; and who does not know such things as these?

4 I am a laughingstock to my friends; I who call upon God, and he answers me; the just and the upright are a laughingstock.

5 A contemptible torch is in the sight of him who is at ease, who is ready to stumble with his feet.

6 The tents of the desolate have rest, and those who provoke God are safe; God has put everything in their hands.

7 But ask now the beasts, and they will teach you; and the birds of the air, and they will tell you;

8 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; even the fish of the sea will tell you.

9 Who does not understand in all these things that the hand of the Lord has done this, 

10 Who is in His hand the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all human flesh? 

11 Does not the ear test words, as the palate tastes food? 

12 With the aged is wisdom, and in long life understanding. 

13 With Him are wisdom and strength; He has counsel and understanding. 

14 Behold, He tears down, and it shall not be built again; and to him who He shuts in, it shall not be opened. 

15 Behold, He holds back the waters, and they dry up; He sends them out, and they overturn the earth. 

16 With Him are strength and wisdom; He is the one who errs and who causes to err. 

17 He leads counselors away spoiled, and makes judges go mad. 

18 He looses the bands of kings, and binds the girdle around their waist. 

19 He leads princes away as plunder, and overthrows the mighty. 

20 He takes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged. 

21 He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the mighty. 

22 He reveals the depths of darkness, and brings forth the shadow of death. 

23 He multiplies nations, and destroys them; he scatters nations, and leads them again. 

24 He takes away the hearts of the princes of the nations of the earth, and makes them wander in the deserts, without a path. 

25 They grope in the darkness, without light, and makes them mad like drunkards.

1 Então Jó respondeu, e disse:

4 Eu sou irrisão para os meus amigos; eu, que invoco a Deus, e ele me responde; o justo e o reto servem de irrisão.

5 Tocha desprezível é, na opinião do que está descansado, aquele que está pronto a tropeçar com os pés,

6 As tendas dos assoladores têm descanso, e os que provocam a Deus estão seguros; nas suas mãos Deus lhes põe tudo.

15 Eis que ele retém as águas, e se secam; e as larga, e transtornam a terra.

16 Com ele está a força e a sabedoria; seu é o que erra e o que faz errar.

17 Aos conselheiros leva despojados, e aos juízes faz desvairar.

18 Solta a atadura dos reis, e ata o cinto aos seus lombos.

19 Aos príncipes leva despojados, aos poderosos transtorna.

20 Aos confiados tira a fala, e toma o entendimento aos velhos.

21 Derrama desprezo sobre os príncipes, e afrouxa o cinto dos fortes.

22 As profundezas das trevas manifesta, e a sombra da morte traz à luz.

23 Multiplica as gentes e as faz perecer; dispersa as gentes, e de novo as reconduz.

24 Tira o coração aos chefes das gentes da terra, e os faz vaguear pelos desertos, sem caminho.

25 Nas trevas andam às apalpadelas, sem terem luz, e os faz desatinar como ébrios.

4 क्योंकि तू ने तो कहा है, कि मेरा मन पवित्र है, और मैं तेरे सम्मुख पवित्र हूं।

5 परन्तु मैं तो यह चाहता हूं कि परमेश्वर तुम्हारे विरुद्ध बोले और अपना मुंह खोले।

6 और तू ने बुद्धि के भेदों को जो अनेक प्रकार के हैं, प्रगट किया है। क्योंकि वह जानता है कि परमेश्वर तुम्हारे अधर्म के अनुसार तुमसे कम चाहता है।

7 क्या तुम परमेश्वर के मार्ग जान सकते हो? क्या आप सर्वशक्तिमान की पूर्णता का पता लगा सकते हैं?

8 उसकी बुद्धि आकाश के समान ऊँची है; आप क्या कर सकते हैं? यह नरक से भी गहरा है, तुम क्या जान सकते हो?

9 उसका माप पृथ्वी से भी लम्बा है; और समुद्र से भी अधिक चौड़ा है।

10 यदि वह नाश करे, और बन्द कर दे, या इकट्ठा करे, तो उसे कौन रोक सकेगा?

11 क्योंकि वह व्यर्थ मनुष्यों को जानता है, और दुष्टता को देखता है; और इसे ध्यान में नहीं लिया जाएगा?

Sophar rebukes Job, shows God's wisdom, and urges repentance

1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,

2 Will there not be an answer for the multitude of words? And will a talkative man be justified?

3 Will men be silent with your lies? And will you mock, and no one will put you to shame?

4 For you have said, 'My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your sight.'

5 But surely God would speak and open his lips against you,

6 And you have made known to yourself the secrets of wisdom, which is manifold in its effectiveness; therefore you know that God requires of you less than your iniquity deserves.

7 Can you find out the ways of God? Can you find out the perfection of the Almighty?

8 His wisdom is as high as the heavens; what can you do? It is deeper than hell, what can you know?

9 Its measure is longer than the earth, and wider than the sea.

10 If he destroys, and shuts up, or gathers together, who can stop him?

11 For he knows vain men, and sees wickedness, and will not consider it?

12 But vain man is void of understanding; yes, man is born like the colt of a wild donkey.

13 If you have prepared your heart, stretch out your hands toward him;

14 If iniquity is in your hand, cast it far from you, and do not let injustice dwell in your tents.

15 For then you will lift up your face without blemish; and you will be established, and will not be afraid.

16 For you will forget your troubles, and remember them as waters that have passed away.

17 And your life will rise brighter than noonday; though there be darkness, it shall be as the morning.

18 And thou shalt be confident, because there is hope; thou shalt look about, and shalt lie down in safety.

19 And thou shalt lie down, and no man shall make thee afraid; many shall caress thy face.

20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and their refuge shall perish; and their hope shall be the perishing of the soul.

11 Porque ele conhece os homens vãos, e vê o vício; e não o terá em consideração?

12 Mas o homem vão é falto de entendimento; sim, o homem nasce como a cria do jumento montês.

13 Se tu preparaste o teu coração, estende as tuas mãos para ele;

14 Se há iniqüidade na tua mão, lança-a para longe de ti, e não deixes habitar a injustiça nas tuas tendas,

15 Porque então o teu rosto levantarás sem mácula; e estarás firme, e não temerás.

16 Porque te esquecerás dos trabalhos, e te lembrarás deles como das águas que já passaram.

20 क्या मेरे दिन थोड़े नहीं हैं? इसलिये रुको और मुझे छोड़ दो, कि मैं थोड़ी देर तक साहस रखूं;

21 इससे पहले कि मैं अंधकार और मृत्यु की छाया के देश में जाऊँ, और कभी वापस न आऊँ;

1 My soul is weary of my life; I will give free rein to my complaint, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

2 I will say to God, "Do not condemn me; show me why you contend with me."

3 Is it good to you that you oppress me, that you reject the work of your hands, and that you shine on the counsel of the wicked?

4 Do you have eyes of flesh? Do you see as man sees?

5 Are your days like those of man? Or are your years like the years of a man?

6 That you may inquire after my iniquity, and search out my sin?

7 You know that I am not wicked; yet there is no one who can deliver me from your hand.

8 Your hands have made me and woven me together, yet you consume me.

 9 Remember, I pray, that you formed me like clay, and that you will bring me back to dust.

10 Have you not poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?

11 You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.

12 You have given me life and love, and your care has preserved my spirit.

13 But you have hidden these things in your heart; I know that this has been with you.

14 If I sin, you will watch me; you will not excuse me from my iniquity.

15 If I am wicked, woe to me! But if I am righteous, I will not lift up my head; I am full of shame, and I look at my misery.

16 Because I exalt myself, you hunt me like a fierce lion, and again you do wonders against me. 

17 You renew your witnesses against me, and multiply your anger against me; retribution and conflict are with me.

18 Why then did you take me out of the womb? Oh, that I would give birth, and no eye would see me!

19 Then I would be as though I had never been, and I would be carried from the womb to Sheol!

20 Are not my days few? Cease, therefore, and let me alone, that I may take courage for a little while;

21 Before I go, never to return, to the land of darkness and the shadow of death,

22 to the land of darkness, as darkness itself, the land of the shadow of death, and without any order, where the light is as darkness.

17 Tu renovas contra mim as tuas testemunhas, e multiplicas contra mim a tua ira; reveses e combate estão comigo.

18 Por que pois me tiraste da madre? Ah! Se então dera o espírito, e olhos nenhuns me vissem!

19 Então fora como se nunca houvera sido: e desde o ventre seria levado à sepultura!

20 Porventura não são poucos os meus dias? Cessa pois, e deixa-me para que por um pouco eu tome alento;

21 Antes que me vá, para nunca mais voltar, à terra da escuridão e da sombra da morte;

22 Terra escuríssima, como a mesma escuridão, terra de sombra da morte e sem ordem alguma, e onde a luz é como a escuridão.

3 यदि वह उससे बहस करना चाहे तो उसे एक हजार बातों में से एक भी बात का उत्तर न दे सकेगा।

4 वह हृदय से बुद्धिमान और शक्ति में बलवान है; जो उसके विरुद्ध कठोर हो गया, और शांति रखी?

5 वह पहाड़ों को हटाता है, और वे इसे नहीं जानते; वह क्रोध में उनको उलट देता है।

6 वह पृथ्वी को उसके स्थान से हटा देता है, और उसके खम्भे काँप उठते हैं।

1 Then Job answered and said:

2 Of a truth I know that it is so; for how can a man be justified with God?

3 If he should strive with him, he cannot answer him one thing of a thousand.

4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and had peace?

5 He removeth the mountains, and they know not; and overturneth them in his wrath.

6 He removeth the earth out of her place, and its pillars tremble.

7 He speaketh to the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

8 He alone stretcheth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the heights of the sea.

9 He maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

10 Who does great things that cannot be fathomed, and wonders that cannot be counted.

11 Behold, he passes before me, and I do not see him; and he passes before me again, and I do not feel him.

12 Behold, he takes the prey; who will restore it? Who will say to him, 'What are you doing?'

13 God will not turn back his anger; proud helpers bow down beneath him.

14 How much less should I answer him or choose my words before him!

15 If I were righteous, I would not answer him; but I would ask mercy of my Judge.

16 If I called, and he answered me, I would not believe that he would listen to my voice.

17 For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.

18 He does not let me breathe, but fills me with bitterness. 

19 As for strength, behold, he is the strong one; and as for judgment, who will adduce me with him? 

20 If I justify myself, my mouth will condemn me; if I say I am righteous, then it will declare me wicked. 

21 Though I am perfect, I do not esteem my soul; I despise my life. 

22 This is the matter; therefore I say that he consumes the righteous and the wicked. 

23 When the scourge slays suddenly, then he laughs at the trial of the innocent. 

24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; he covers the face of the judges; if it is not he, who is? 

25 And my days are swifter than a post; they have fled, and have never seen good. 

26 They pass away like sailing ships, like an eagle swooping down on its prey. 

27 If I say, "I will forget my complaint," I will change my face, and take courage; 

28 I fear all my sorrows, for I know that you will not hold me guiltless.

29 And since I am wicked, why should I labor in vain?

30 Though I wash myself with snow water and make my hands clean with soap,

31 Yet you will plunge me into the ditch, and my own clothes will abhor me.

32 For he is not a man like me, to whom I answer, I divide the judgment together.

33 There is no umpire between us who can lay his hand between us.

5 Ele é o que transporta as montanhas, sem que o sintam, e o que as transtorna no seu furor.

6 O que remove a terra do seu lugar, e as suas colunas estremecem.

7 O que fala ao sol, e ele não sai, e sela as estrelas.

8 O que só estende os céus, e anda sobre os altos do mar.

9 O que faz a Ursa, o Óriom, e o Sete-estrelo, e as recâmaras do sul.

10 O que faz coisas grandes, que se não podem esquadrinhar, e maravilhas tais que se não podem contar.

11 Eis que passa por diante de mim, e não o vejo; e torna a passar perante mim, e não o sinto.

10 Will they not instruct you, and speak to you, and give you reason out of their own heart?

12 While it is still green, and not cut down, it withers before any other herb.

13 Such are the paths of all who forget God; and the hope of the hypocrite will perish.

14 Their hope is cut off, and their confidence is like a spider's web.

15 He leans against his house, but it cannot stand; he supports it, but it cannot stand.

16 It is moist before the sun rises, and its shoots go forth over its garden;

17 Its roots are entwined by the spring, and it looks out on the stony ground.

2 Like a deer that longs for its shadow, and like a hired servant who waits for his wages.

3 So they have given me months of vanity as my inheritance, and nights of labor have they prepared for me.

4 When I lie down to sleep, I say, “When shall I arise?” But the night is long, and I am full of tossing and turning until the morning.

5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is chapped and has become abominable.

6 My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and they perish without hope.

7 Remember that my life is like the wind; my eyes shall see no good again.

8 The eyes of those who see me now shall see me no more; Your eyes will be upon me, but I will be no more.

9 As the cloud vanishes and passes away, so he who goes down to the grave will never come up again.

10 He will never return to his house, nor will his place know him any more.

27 परन्तु तू अनाथों के लिये चिट्ठी डालता है, और अपने मित्र से भी झगडा करता है।

28 इसलिये अब यदि तुम सेवा करते हो, तो मेरी ओर देखो; और देखो कि मैं तुम्हारे साम्हने सोता हूं कि नहीं।
