Nehemiah 05 The Poor Murmur Against the Rich, and Nehemiah Rebukes the Latter

 Nehemiah 05

The Poor Murmur Against the Rich, and Nehemiah Rebukes the Latter

1 But there was a great outcry of the people and their wives against their fellow Jews.

2 For there were some who said, “We are many with our sons and daughters; let us take grain, that we may eat and live.”

3 And there were some who said, “We have pledged our fields, our vineyards, and our houses, that we may get grain in this famine.”

4 And there were some who said, “We have borrowed money even for the king’s tribute on our fields and vineyards.”

5 And now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, and our children like their children; and, behold, we have brought our sons and our daughters into bondage to be servants; and some of our daughters are also brought into bondage, that they are no longer in our hands; and others have our fields and our vineyards. 6 When I heard their outcry and these words, I was very angry.

7 And I considered in my heart, and then I fought with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, "You take usury every one from his brother." And I gathered a great assembly against them.

8 And I said to them, "We have redeemed our brethren the Jews, who were sold to the nations, according to our ability; and will you sell your brethren again, or will you sell yourselves to us?" Then they held their peace, and found no way to answer.

9 And he said, "What you do is not good: should you walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?

10 I also, and my brethren, and my servants, have given them money and grain on interest. Let us leave this gain."

11 Restore to them today, I pray you, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, and the hundredth part of the money, of the grain, of the wine, and of the oil, which you exacted from them.

12 Then they said, "We will restore them, and we will not demand anything from them; we will do as you say." Then I called the priests and made them swear to do according to this word.

13 I also shook my lap and said, "So may God shake out every man from his house and from his work who does not do this word, and so let him be shaken out and empty." And the congregation said, "Amen!" And they praised the Lord; and the people did according to this word.

14 Also from the day that I was appointed their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor's bread.

15 But the former governors who were before me oppressed the people and took bread and wine from them, and forty shekels of silver. Their servants also ruled over the people, but I did not do so because of the fear of God.

16 I also made repairs in the work of this wall, and we did not buy any land; and all my servants were there for the work.

17 And there were one hundred and fifty men of the Jews and of the rulers, and those who came to us from the nations that were around us, who sat at my table.

18 And the daily food was one ox and six choice sheep; and they prepared fowls for me, and every ten days very much of all wine. Yet I did not exact the governor's bread, because the bondage of this people was great.

19 Remember me for good, O my God, and all that I have done to this people.

Neemias 05

E a congregação disse: Amém!

Nehemiah 04 The Enemies Want to Delay the Building of the Wall

 Nehemiah 04

The Enemies Want to Delay the Building of the Wall

1 Now it came to pass, when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, that he was very angry and greatly displeased, and he mocked the Jews.

2 And he spake in the presence of his brethren, and of the army of Samaria, and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they be permitted to do this? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish it in one day? Will they revive the stones that were burned out of the heaps of dust?

3 And Tobiah the Ammonite stood by them, and said, Even if they build, even a fox will easily break down their stone wall.

4 Hear, O our God, that we are despised, and shut up their reproach upon their heads, and make them a plunder in a land of captivity.

5 Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you, because they provoked you to anger in the sight of the builders.

6 So we built the wall, and the whole wall was joined together up to half its length, for the people were eager to work.

7 When Sanballat and Tobiah, the Arabians, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the repairs to the walls of Jerusalem were being made up so much that the breaches were beginning to be stopped, they were very angry.

8 They all plotted to come and fight against Jerusalem and to divert them from their purpose.

9 But we prayed to our God and set a guard against them day and night because of them.

10 Then Judah said, "The strength of the charioteers has failed, and the dust is too much for us to build the wall."

11 But our enemies said, "They will not know or see this until we enter among them and kill them; then we will stop the work."

12 And it came to pass, when the Jews who lived among them came, that they told us ten times, and in all places, that they would return to us.

13 So I set guards in the low places behind the wall and on the high places, and I stationed the people by their families with their swords, with their spears, and with their bows.

14 Then I looked, and arose, and said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, "Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your children, your wives, and your houses."

15 When our enemies heard that we had heard it, and that God had frustrated their plan, we all returned to the wall, each to his work.

16 From that day on, half of my servants worked on the work, and half of them held the spears, shields, bows, and armor. The leaders were behind the whole house of Judah.

17 Those who built the wall, and those who carried the burdens, and those who carried them, each one worked with one hand and held the weapons in the other.

18 The builders each had a sword girded on their waists and were building. The one who blew the trumpet was by me.

19 I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people, “The work is great and extensive, and we are separated from the wall, far from each other.”

20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, gather yourselves together with us. Our God will fight for us.

21 So we worked on the project, and half of them held spears from the rising of the morning until the rising of the stars.

22 At that time I said to the people, “Let each man and his servant remain in Jerusalem, so that they may be our guard by night and on the project by day.”

23 Neither I nor my brothers nor my servants nor the men of the guard who followed me would put off our clothes; each man went with his weapons to the water.

Neemias 04 Os inimigos pretendem retardar a edificação dos muros

Neemias 04

Nehemiah 03 Of those who worked on the building of the wall

 Nehemiah 03

Of those who worked on the building of the wall

1 Then Eliashib the high priest arose with his brethren the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate, which they consecrated, and set up its doors; and they consecrated the Tower of Meah, and the Tower of Hananel.

2 And next to it the men of Jericho built; and next to it Zaccur the son of Imri built.

3 And the sons of Senaah built the Fish Gate, which they laid the beams of, and set up its doors, and its locks, and its bars.

4 And next to it Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Coz, and next to it Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Mezebel, repaired; and next to him Zadok the son of Baanah repaired.

5 And next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles did not put their necks to work for their lord.

6 And the old gate was repaired by Jehoiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams and set up its doors, its locks and its bars.

7 And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, men of Gibeon and Mizpah, who belonged to the domain of the governor beyond the River.

8 Next to them repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths; and next to him repaired Hananiah the son of one of the apothecaries; and they fortified Jerusalem as far as the broad wall.

15 And the Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallum the son of Colhoze, the ruler of the district of Mizpah. He built it, covered it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and the wall of the Pool of Shelah, by the king's garden, as far as the steps that go down from the City of David.

16 After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of half Beth-zur, built as far as opposite the tombs of David, and as far as the artificial pool, and as far as the House of the Men.

20 After him Baruch the son of Zabbai repaired with great zeal another section, from the corner to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

21 After him Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Coz, repaired another section, from the door of the house of Eliashib to the end of the house of Elishaib.

22 After him the priests who lived in the plain repaired.

23 After him Benjamin and Hasshub repaired opposite the house. After him Azariah the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, next to his house, repaired.

24 After him Binnui the son of Henadad repaired another section, from the house of Azariah to the corner, and to the corner.

25 Pallai the son of Uzai repaired opposite the corner, and the tower that juts out from the king's upper house, which is by the court of the prison; after him repaired Pedaiah the son of Parosh.

26 Now the Nethinuites lived in Ophel, as far as opposite the Water Gate on the east, and as far as the high tower.

27 After him the Tekoites repaired another section, opposite the great and high tower, and as far as the wall of Ophel.

Nehemiah 02 Artaxerxes Allows Nehemiah to Go to Jerusalem and Build the Wall

 Nehemiah 02

Artaxerxes Allows Nehemiah to Go to Jerusalem and Build the Wall

1 Now it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, that wine was before him; and I took up the wine, and gave it to the king: but before I had never been sad before him.

2 And the king said to me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? This is but sorrow of heart. Then I was greatly afraid.

3 And I said to the king, May the king live forever: how should not my countenance be sad, seeing the city, the place of my fathers' graves, laid waste, and its gates consumed with fire?

4 And the king said to me, What askest thou of me now? Then I prayed to the God of heaven,

5 and said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant is accepted in your sight, please send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, so that I may rebuild it."

6 The king said to me, while the queen was sitting beside him, "How long will your journey be, and when will you return?" And it pleased the king to send me, and I appointed him a set time.

7 I also said to the king, "If it pleases the king, let letters be given to the governors beyond the River, that they may give me passage until I come to Judah;

8 and a letter to Asaph, keeper of the king's garden, that he may give me timber to cover the gates of the palace and for the wall of the city and for the house that I shall enter." So the king gave it to me, according to the good hand of God upon me.

9 Then I came to the governors beyond the River and gave them the king's letters, and the king had sent with me commanders of the army and horsemen.

10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard of it, they were very displeased that someone had come to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

11 So I came to Jerusalem and stayed there three days.

12 And I got up at night, I and a few men with me, and I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do in Jerusalem. And there was no animal with me except the one I rode on.

13 So I went out at night through the Valley Gate to the Dragon's Well and to the Dung Gate, and I saw the walls of Jerusalem that were broken down and its gates that had been consumed by fire.

14 And I passed by the Fountain Gate and the king's pool. and there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.

15 So I went up by night by the brook, and looked at the wall; and I turned back, and entered by the valley gate, and so returned.

16 But the magistrates knew not whither I went, nor what I did: for up to that time neither the Jews, nor the nobles, nor the magistrates, nor any others that did the work, had told them anything.

17 Then I said unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth in desolation, and her gates have been burned with fire: come, therefore, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no more be in reproach.

18 Then I told them how the hand of my God was upon me, and the words of the king which he had spoken unto me. Then they said, Let us arise and build. And they strengthened their hands for good.

19 Then I told them that the hand of my God was upon me, and that the king had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us arise and build. And they set their hands to do good.  When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard of it, they mocked us and despised us. They said, “What are you doing? Do you want to rebel against the king?”

20 Then I answered them, “The God of heaven will prosper us, and we his servants will arise and build. But you have no portion, no right, no memory in Jerusalem.”

Neemias 02 Artaxerxes permite a Neemias ir a Jerusalém e edificar os muros

Neemias 02

4 E o rei me disse: Que me pedes agora?

6 Então o rei me disse, estando a rainha assentada junto a ele: Quanto durará a tua viagem, e quando voltarás? E aprouve o rei enviar-me, apontando-lhe eu um certo tempo.

7 Disse mais ao rei: Se ao rei parece bem, dêem-se me cartas para os governadores dalém do rio, para que me dêem passagem até que chegue a Judá;

9 Então vim aos governadores dalém do rio, e dei-lhes as cartas do rei; e o rei tinha enviado comigo chefes do exército e cavaleiros.

11 E cheguei a Jerusalém, e estive ali três dias.

5 और उसने कहा, आह! हे प्रभु, स्वर्ग के परमेश्वर, महान और भययोग्य परमेश्वर! जो उससे प्रेम रखते और उसकी आज्ञाएं मानते हैं, उनके साथ वह वाचा रखता और उन पर दया करता है;

Nehemiah 01 Nehemiah, hearing the distress of Jerusalem, prays to God

 Nehemiah 01

Nehemiah, hearing the distress of Jerusalem, prays to God

1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hecaliah. Now it came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the stronghold,

2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I inquired of them concerning the Jews that were escaped, and that were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great distress and contempt, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

5 And I said, Ah, Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God! Who keeps the covenant and the kindness toward those who love you and keep your commandments;

6 Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you today, day and night, for the children of Israel, your servants, and to confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you; I and my father's house have sinned.

7 We have acted corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, or the ordinances that you commanded your servant Moses.

8 Remember therefore the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, 'If you transgress, I will scatter you among the peoples.'

9 If you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, then even though your outcasts are at the ends of the heavens, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place that I have chosen to place my name there.

10 These are still your servants and your people whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.

11 O Lord, please listen carefully to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who desire to fear your name. May your servant prosper today and grant him favor in the sight of this man. At that time I was cupbearer to the king.

Neemias 01 Neemias, sabendo o triste estado de Jerusalém, ora a Deus

Neemias 01

5 E disse: Ah! Senhor, Deus dos céus, Deus grande e terrível! Que guardas o concerto e a benignidade para com aqueles que te amam e guardam os teus mandamentos;

Ezra 10 The Israelites Repent and Put Away Their Hittite Wives

 Ezra 10

The Israelites Repent and Put Away Their Hittite Wives

1 Now when Ezra had prayed thus, and made this confession, weeping, and bowing himself before the house of God, a very great congregation of men, women, and children gathered to him from Israel; for the people wept sorely.

2 Then Shecaniah the son of Jeiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, "We have transgressed against our God, and have married strange women of the people of the land; but in this matter there is hope for Israel.

3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God, that we will put away all the women, and all that are born of them, according to the counsel of the Lord, and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law."

4 Now therefore arise, for the matter is yours, and we will be with you; be strong and do it.

5 Then Ezra arose, and took an oath to the chief of the priests and the Levites, and to all Israel, that they would do according to this word: and they did so.

6 And Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he ate no bread, and drank no water; for he was disgusted with the transgression of the captives.

7 And they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the captives, that they should assemble themselves at Jerusalem.

8 And that whosoever did not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and he should be cut off from the assembly of the captives.

9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem for three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the square of the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain.

10 Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, "You have transgressed and married strange women, increasing the sin of Israel.

11 Now therefore confess to the Lord, the God of your fathers, and do his will; separate yourselves from the people of the lands and from the strange women."

12 And the whole assembly answered and said with a loud voice, "So be it; it is fitting for us to do as you have said.

13 But the people are many, and it is also the time of heavy rain, so that we cannot remain outside; it is not the work of one day or two, for we are many who have transgressed in this matter.

14 Now let our leaders throughout the congregation be appointed over this matter; and let all who have married foreign women in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of each city and their judges, until the fierce anger of our God for this matter has turned away from us.

15 But only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah were appointed over this matter; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

16 And those who had returned from the captivity did so. Then Ezra the priest and the men, heads of the fathers' houses, all by their names, separated themselves and sat down on the first day of the tenth month to inquire into this matter.

17 So they destroyed all the men who had married foreign women by the first day of the first month.

18 And some of the sons of the priests were found who had married foreign women: of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers, Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.

19 And they pledged their will to put away their wives; and when they found themselves guilty, they offered a ram from the flock for their guilt.

20 And of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.

21 And of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jeiel, and Uzziah.

22 And of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, and Maaseiah, and Ishmael, and Nethanel, and Josabad, and Elasah.

23 And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (the same is Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 And of the singers: Eliashib; and of the gatekeepers: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

25 And of Israel, of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Jezziah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 And of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jeiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.

27 And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, and Eliashib, and Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

28 And of the sons of Bebai: Johanan, and Hananiah, and Zibai, and Atlai.

29 And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, and Malluch, and Adaiah, and Jashub, and Sheal, and Jeremoth.

30 And of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adnah, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

31 And of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Jesiah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.

33 Of the sons of Hashum: Mattnai, Mattatha, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

34 Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel,

35 Benaiah, Bediah, Cheluhi,

36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

37 Mattaniah, Mattnai, and Jaasai,

38 And Bani, and Binnui, Shimei, 3

9 And Shemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah,

 40 Machnadbai, Shasai, Sarai,

41 Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah,

42 Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.

43 Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadai, Joel, and Benaiah.

44 All these had taken foreign wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.

8 और अब हमारे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने थोड़ी देर के लिए हम पर अनुग्रह किया है, कि हम में से थोड़े लोग बच निकलें, और अपने पवित्र स्थान में हमें एक खूंटी दे दी है; हमारी आँखों को रोशन करने के लिए; हे हमारे परमेश्वर, हमें अपनी दासता में थोड़ा सा जीवन दे;

10 अब हे हमारे परमेश्वर, इसके बाद हम क्या कहें? क्योंकि हम ने तेरी आज्ञाओं को त्याग दिया है;

Ezra 09 Ezra knows that many Israelites married Hittite women and prays and confesses to God

 Ezra 09

Ezra knows that many Israelites married Hittite women and prays and confesses to God

1 When these things were finished, the princes came to me and said, "The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of these lands, but have followed the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites;

2 For they took some of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, and so the holy seed mixed with the people of these lands; and even the hand of the princes and rulers was the first in this transgression.

3 When I heard this, I tore my garment and my cloak, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonished.

4 Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel because of the transgression of the captives gathered around me, but I sat there in amazement until the evening sacrifice.

5 And at the time of the evening sacrifice I arose from my distress, having torn my garment and my cloak, and fell upon my knees, and spread out my face to you, my God, for our iniquities have increased over our head, and our guilt has reached to the heavens.

6 And I said, "My God, I am ashamed and ashamed to lift up my face to you, my God, for our iniquities have increased over our head, and our guilt has reached to the heavens."

7 Since the days of our fathers even to this day we have been in great guilt, and because of our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plunder, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

8 And now, as for a little while, grace has been shown to us by the Lord our God, to leave us a few to escape, and to give us a peg in his holy place, to give us light to our eyes, O our God, and to give us a little life in our bondage.

9 For we are servants, and our God did not forsake us in our bondage, but extended kindness to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to revive us, to build up the house of our God, and to repair its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

10 And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken your commandments,

11 which you commanded through your servants the prophets, saying, “The land, which you are entering to possess, is an unclean land because of the uncleanness of its people, because of the abominations with which they have filled it from one end to the other in their corruption.

12 Now therefore, you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you seek their peace and their welfare for ever; that you may be strong and eat the good of the land, and leave it as a possession for your children forever.

13 And after all that has happened to us because of our evil deeds and our great guilt, yet you, O God, have kept us from being destroyed because of our iniquity, and have given us such a deliverance as this.

14 Shall we now again break your commandments and have intermarriage with the people of these abominations? Would you not be so angry with us until you had completely consumed us, until there was no remnant or survivor?

15 Ah, Lord God of Israel, you are righteous, for we have escaped, as we have done today. We are here before you in our sin, for there is no one who can stand before you because of this.

1 Acabando pois estas coisas, chegaram-se a mim os príncipes dizendo: O povo de Israel, e os sacerdotes, e os levitas, não se tem separado dos povos destas terras, seguindo as abominações dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos ferizeus, dos jebuseus, dos amonitas, dos moabitas, dos egípcios, e dos amorreus;

8 E agora, como por um pequeno momento, se nos fez graça da parte do Senhor, nosso Deus, para nos deixar alguns que escapem, e para dar-nos uma estaca no seu santo lugar; para nos alumiar os olhos; ó Deus nosso, e para nos dar uma pouca de vida na nossa servidão;

10 Agora pois, ó nosso Deus, que diremos depois disto? Pois deixamos os teus mandamentos;

13 E depois de tudo o que nos tem sucedido por causa das nossas más obras, e da nossa grande culpa, ainda assim tu, ó Deus, estorvaste que fôssemos destruídos, por causa da nossa iniquidade, e ainda nos deste livramento como este;
