7 E disse Davi a Abiatar, o sacerdote filho de Aquimeleque: Traze-me, peço-te, aqui o éfode. E Abiatar trouxe o éfode a Davi.

8 Então consultou Davi ao Senhor, dizendo: Perseguirei eu a esta tropa? alcançá-la-ei? E o Senhor lhe disse: Persegue-a, porque de certo a alcançarás, e tudo libertarás.

9 Partiu pois Davi, ele e os seiscentos homens que com ele se achavam, e chegaram ao ribeiro de Besor onde os que ficaram atrás pararam.

10 E seguiu-os Davi, ele e os quatrocentos homens, pois que duzentos homens ficaram atrás, por não poderem, de cansados que estavam passar o ribeiro de Besor.

11 E acharam no campo um homem egípcio, e o trouxeram a Davi: deram-lhe pão, e comeu, e deram-lhe a beber água.

12 Deram-lhe também um pedaço de massa de figos secos e dois cachos de passas, e comeu, e voltou-lhe o seu espírito, porque havia três dias e três noites que não tinha comido pão nem bebido água.

13 Então Davi lhe disse: De quem és tu, e de onde és? E disse o moço egípcio: Sou servo de um homem amalequita, e meu senhor me deixou,porque adoeci há três dias.

14 Nós demos com ímpeto para a banda do sul dos querenitas e para a banda de Judá, e para a banda do sul de Calebe, e pusemos fogo a Siclague.

16 E, descendo, o guiou; e eis que estavam espalhados sobre a face de toda a terra, comendo e bebendo e dançando, por todo aquele grande despojo que tomaram da terra dos filisteus e da terra de Judá.

17 E feriu-os Davi, desde o crepúsculo até à tarde do dia seguinte, e nenhum deles escapou, senão os quatrocentos mancebos que, montado sobre camelos, fugiram.

18 Assim livrou Davi tudo quanto tomaram os amalequitas: também as suas duas mulheres livrou Davi.

19 E ninguém lhes faltou, desde o menor até ao maior, e até os filhos e as filhas; e também desde o despojo até tudo quanto lhes tinham tomado, tudo Davi tornou a trazer.

20 Também tomou Davi todas as ovelhas e vacas, e levavam-nas diante do outro gado, e diziam: Este é o despojo de Davi.

21 E chegando Davi aos duzentos homens que, de cansados que estavam não puderam seguir a Davi, e que deixaram ficar no ribeiro de Besor,estes saíram ao encontro de Davi e do povo que com ele vinha: e, chegando-se Davi ao povo, os saudou em paz.

Siklag is plundered by the Amalekites

1 So it came to pass, when David and his men came to Sheklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had come upon the south with a rush, and upon Shiklag, and had smitten Shiklag, and had set her on fire.

2 And they took captive the women that were in it, but they slew no one, neither small nor great; they just took them with them and went their way.

2 E levaram cativas as mulheres que estavam nela, porém a ninguém mataram, nem pequenos nem grandes; tão-somente, os levaram consigo e foram pelo seu caminho.

3 E Davi e os seus homens vieram à cidade, e eis que estava queimada a fogo, e as suas mulheres, seus filhos e suas filhas eram levados cativos.

4 Então Davi e o povo que se achava com ele alçaram a sua voz, e choraram, até que neles não houve mais força para chorar.

5 Também as duas mulheres de Davi foram levadas cativas; Aquinoã, a jezreelita, e Abigail, a mulher de Nabal, o carmelita.

3 Then said the princes of the Philistines, What are these Hebrews doing here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul king of Israel, who was with me some days or years? and I found nothing in him since the day he rebelled, until today.

4 But the princes of the Philistines were very angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto them, Return this man, and return to his place where thou hast set him, and go not down with us to the battle, lest he turn to us in the adversary's battle: your lord? would it not be with the heads of these men?

5 Is not this that David, of whom they answered one another with dances, saying, Saul smote his thousands, but David his tens of thousands?

6 Then Achish called to David, and said to him, As the LORD liveth, that thou art upright, and that thy going in and thy going out with me into the camp is good in my sight; for I have found no harm in you, from the day you came unto me, until this day; but in the eyes of princes they do not like.

7 Return therefore now, and return in peace: that you may not do harm in the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.

8 Then David said to Achish, Why? What did I do? Or what hast thou found in thy servant, from the day that I stood before thee, until this day, that he may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?

9 But Achish answered and said unto David, I know well: and that thou art indeed in my sight as an angel of God: but the princes of the Philistines said, Let him not go up with us to battle.

10 Now therefore, in the morning, rise up with thy lord's servants, who have come with thee: and in the morning rising, when there is light, depart.

11 Then David arose early in the morning, he and his men, to depart in the morning, and they returned to the land of the Philistines: and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

4 Porém os príncipes dos filisteus muito se indignaram contra ele; e disseram-lhes os príncipes dos filisteus: Faze voltar a este homem, e torne ao seu lugar em que tu o puseste, e não desça conosco à batalha, para que não se nos torne na batalha adversário: por que com que aplacaria este a seu senhor? porventura não seria com as cabeças destes homens?

5 Não é este aquele Davi, de quem uns aos outros respondiam com danças, dizendo: Saul feriu os seus milhares, porém Davi as suas dezenas de milhares?

6 Então Áquis chamou a Davi e disse-lhe: Vive o Senhor, que tu és reto, e que a tua entrada e a tua saída comigo no arraial é boa aos meus olhos; porque nenhum mal em ti achei, desde o dia em que a mim vieste, até ao dia de hoje; porém aos olhos dos príncipes não agradas.

7 Volta pois agora, e volta em paz: para que não faças mal aos olhos dos príncipes dos filisteus.

8 Então Davi disse a Áquis: Por que? Que fiz? Ou que achaste no teu servo, desde o dia em que estive diante de ti, até ao dia de hoje, para que não vá e peleje contra os inimigos do rei meu senhor?

9 Respondeu porém Áquis, e disse a Davi: Bem o sei: e que na verdade aos meus olhos és bom como um anjo de Deus: porém disseram os príncipes dos filisteus: Não suba este conosco à batalha.

10 Agora pois amanhã de madrugada levanta-te com os criados de teu senhor, que têm vindo contigo: e, levantando-vos pela manhã de madrugada, havendo luz, parti.

11 Então Davi de madrugada se levantou, ele e os seus homens, para partirem pela manhã, e voltaram à terra dos filisteus: e os filisteus subiram a Jezreel.

1 And it came to pass in those days, when the Philistines gathered their armies to battle, to make war against Israel, that Achish said to David, Surely thou shalt go out to the camp with me, thou and thy men.

2 Then David said to Achish, Thus shalt thou know what thy servant shall do. And Achish said to David, Therefore I will keep thee for my head forevermore.

3 And Samuel was already dead, and all Israel had wept for him, and had buried him in Ramah, which was his city; and Saul had banished the soothsayers and the sorcerers.

4 And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came, and encamped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel, and encamped in Gilboa.

5 And when Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he feared, and his heart trembled greatly.

6 And he asked Saul of the Lord, but the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

7 Then Saul said to his servants, Seek me a woman who has the spirit of a witch, that I may go to her and consult her. And his servants said to him: Behold, in Endor there is a woman who has the spirit of guessing.

8 And Saul disguised himself and put on other garments, and he went and two men with him, and at night they came to the woman; and she said, I ask you to guess me by the spirit of a witch, and bring me up to whomever I tell you to.

9 Then the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath destroyed diviners and sorcerers out of the land: why then thou lay a snare upon my life, to make me slay?

10 Then Saul swore to him by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, that no harm will come to thee for this.

11 Then the woman said to him, To whom shall I bring thee up? And he said, Bring me up to Samuel.

12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, Why have you deceived me? for thou art Saul.

13 And the king said to him, Fear not: but what do you see? Then the woman said to Saul: I see gods that come up out of the earth.

14 And she said to him, How is your figure? And she said: An old man is coming up, and he is swathed in a cloak. Realizing that Saul was Samuel, he bowed his face to the ground, and prostrated himself.

15 Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou troubled me by bringing me up? Then Saul said, I am greatly distressed, for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me, and answereth me no more, neither by the ministry of the prophets, nor by dreams; That's why I called you to let me know what to do.

16 Then Samuel said, Why then ask me, seeing that the LORD hath forsaken thee, and hath become thine enemy?

17 For the LORD hath done unto thee as he hath spoken to thee through my mouth, and hath torn the kingdom out of thine hand, and hath given it to thy fellow David.

18 As thou hast not heeded the voice of the LORD, and hast not carried out the fervor of his wrath against Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this unto thee today.

19 And the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow thou and thy children shall be with me; and the camp of Israel the Lord will deliver into the hand of the Philistines.

20 And immediately Saul fell to the ground, and he feared greatly because of those words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; because he hadn't eaten bread all that day and all that night.

21 Then the woman came to Saul, and seeing that he was so troubled, she said to him, Behold, thy maiden has given ear to thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and I have heard the words which thou hast spoken.

22 Now therefore hear thou also the words of thy handmaid, and I will set a morsel of bread before thee, and eat, that thou mayest have strength to go forth.

23 But he refused it, and said, I will not eat. But his servants and his wife constrained him; and he listened to his voice: and he arose from the ground, and sat upon a bed.

24 And the woman had a barley heifer in the house, and he hurried, and cut her throat, and took flour, and kneaded it, and baked it in unleavened cakes.

4 E ajuntaram-se os filisteus, e vieram, e acamparam-se em Suném: e ajuntou Saul a todo o Israel, e se acamparam em Gilboa.

15 Samuel disse a Saul: Por que me desinquietaste, fazendo-me subir? Então disse Saul: Mui angustiado estou, porque os filisteus guerreiam contra mim, e Deus se tem desviado de mim, e não me responde mais, nem pelo ministério dos profetas, nem por sonhos; por isso te chamei a ti, para que me faças saber o que hei de fazer.

16 Então disse Samuel: Por que pois a mim me perguntas, visto que o Senhor te tem desamparado, e se tem feito teu inimigo?

17 Porque o Senhor tem feito para contigo como pela minha boca te disse, e tem rasgado o reino da tua mão, e o tem dado ao teu companheiro Davi.

22 Agora pois ouve também tu as palavras da tua serva, e porei um bocado de pão diante de ti, e come, para que tenhas forças para te pores a caminho.

23 Porém ele o recusou, e disse: Não comerei. Porém os seus criados e a mulher o constrangeram; e deu ouvidos à sua voz: e levantou-se do chão, e se assentou sobre uma cama.

9 And David said to Abishai, Do him no harm: for who has stretched out his hand against the Lord's anointed, and has become innocent?

10 And David said, As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come when he dies, or he will go down to battle and perish;

11 May the Lord keep me, that I may stretch out my hand against the Lord's anointed: now, however, take the spear at his head and the water jar there, and let's go.

12 So David took the spear and the jug of water from Saul's head, and they were gone: and there was no one to see him, neither to warn him nor to wake up; because they were all asleep because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.

13 And David, going to the other side, stood on the top of the mountain in the distance, so that there was a great distance between them.

14 And David cried out to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Will you not answer, Abner? Then Abner replied and said, "Who are you, that you bow to the king?"

15 Then David said to Abner, Are you not a man? it is who is in Israel like you, why then did you not keep your lord the king? because one of the people came to destroy your lord the king.

16 This is not a good thing, which you have done; the Lord lives, who are worthy of death, you who have not kept your lord, the Lord's anointed: see now where the king's spear is, and the jug of water at his head.

20 For now, let not my blood be shed on the earth before the Lord; for the king of Israel went out in search of a flea; like someone chasing a partridge in the mountains.

21 Then Saul said, I have sinned; come back, my son David, because I will not send you wrong because my life was precious in your eyes today: behold, I have acted madly, and have made a great mistake.

22 David then answered and said, Here is the king's spear; pass one of the boys here, and take it.

23 The Lord, however, pay each man his righteousness and his loyalty; for the Lord had given you into my hand today, but I did not want to extend my hand against the Lord's anointed.

24 And behold, just as your life was today of so much esteem in my eyes, my life is so much in the eyes of the Lord, and he frees me from all tribulation.

25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed are you, my son David; for you will do great things and you will also prevail. So David went on his way and Saul returned to his place.

39 E, ouvindo Davi que Nabal morrera, disse: Bendito seja o Senhor, que pleiteou o pleito da minha afronta da mão de Nabal, e deteve a seu servo do mal, fazendo o Senhor tornar mal de Nabal sobre a sua cabeça. E mandou Davi falar a Abigail, para tomá-la por sua mulher.
