8 Then David also arose, and left the cave, and shouted behind Saul, saying, King, my lord! And looking back at Saul, David bowed himself with his face to the ground, and fell down.

9 And David said to Saul, Why do you listen to the words of men who say, Behold, David seeks your evil?

10 Behold, this day your eyes have seen, that the Lord today has placed you in my hands in this cave, and some have said that I should kill you: but my hand spared you: for he said, I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for it is anointed by the Lord.

11 Look, then, my father, see the hem of your robe in my hand here; because when I cut off the hem of your robe, I did not kill you. Therefore, be warned, see that there is neither evil nor malice in my hand, and I have not sinned against you; but you are hunting for my life, to take it away.

12 Judge the Lord between me and you, and the Lord avenge me on you: but my hand will not be against you.

13 As the proverb of the ancients says: From the wicked proceeds wickedness; but my hand will not be against you.

14 After whom did the king of Israel come out? who are you chasing? to a dead dog? to a flea?

15 But the Lord will be a judge, and he will judge between you and me, and he will see and plead my cause, and he will defend me from your hand.

16 And it came to pass, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, Is this your voice, my son David? Then Saul raised his voice and wept.

17 And he said to David, You are righteous more than I, for you have rewarded me with good, and I have rewarded you with evil.

18 And you showed today that you used me well; for the Lord had put me in your hands, and you did not kill me.

19 For who can find his enemy who would let him go in a good way? the Lord therefore pay you well, for what you have done to me today.

20 Now therefore, behold, I know that you will surely reign, and that the kingdom of Israel must be firm in your hand.

21 Therefore now swear to me by the Lord that you will not uproot my seed after me, nor shame my name from my father's house.

22 Then David swore to Saul. And Saul went to his house, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

1 E sucedeu que, voltando Saul de perseguir os filisteus, lhe anunciaram, dizendo: Eis que Davi está no deserto de Engedi.

2 Então tomou Saul três  mil homens, escolhidos dentre todo o Israel, e foi à busca de Davi e dos seus homens, até  aos cumes das penhas das cabras monteses.

3 E chegou a uns currais de ovelhas no caminho, onde estava uma caverna; e entrou nela Saul, a cobrir seus pés: e Davi e os seus homens estavam aos lados da caverna.

4 Então os homens de Davi lhe disseram: Eis aqui o dia, do qual o Senhor te diz: Eis que te dou o teu inimigo nas tuas mãos, e far-lhe-ás como te parecer bem aos teus olhos. E levantou-se Davi, e mansamente cortou a orla do manto de Saul.

5 Sucedeu, porém, que depois o coração doeu a Davi, por ter cortado a orla do manto de Saul.

6 E disse aos seus homens: O Senhor me guarde de que eu faça tal coisa ao meu senhor, ao ungido do Senhor, estendendo eu a minha mão contra ele, pois é o ungido do Senhor.

7  E com estas palavras Davi conteve os seus homens, e não lhes permitiu que se levantassem contra Saul; e Saul se levantou da caverna, e prosseguiu o seu caminho.

8 Depois também Davi se levantou, e saiu da caverna, e gritou por detrás de Saul, dizendo: Rei, meu senhor! E, olhando Saul para trás, Davi se inclinou com o rosto em terra, e se prostrou.

9 E disse Davi a Saul: Por que dás tu ouvidos às palavras dos homens que dizem: Eis que Davi procura o teu mal?

10 Eis que este dia os teus olhos viram, que o Senhor hoje te pôs em minhas mãos nesta caverna, e alguns disseram que te matasse: porém a minha mão te poupou: porque disse: Não estenderei a minha mão contra o meu senhor, pois é ungido do Senhor.

11 Olha, pois, meu pai, vê aqui a orla do teu manto na minha mão; porque, cortando-te eu a orla do manto, te não matei. Adverte, pois, vê que não há na minha mão nem mal nem prevaricação nenhuma, e não pequei contra ti; porém tu andas à caça da minha vida, para ma tirares.

12 Julgue o Senhor entre mim e ti, e vingue-me o Senhor de ti: porém a minha mão não será contra ti.

13 Como diz o provérbio dos antigos: Dos ímpios procede a impiedade; porém a minha mão não será contra ti.

14 Após quem saiu o rei de Israel? a quem persegues? a um cão morto? a uma pulga?

15 O Senhor porém será juiz, e julgará entre mim e ti, e verá, e advogará a minha causa, e me defenderá da tua mão.

16 E sucedeu que, acabando Davi de falar a Saul todas estas palavras, disse Saul: É esta a tua voz, meu filho Davi? Então Saul alçou a sua voz e chorou.

17 E disse a Davi: Mais justo és do que eu, pois tu me recompensaste  com bem, e eu te recompensei com mal.

18 E tu mostraste hoje que usaste comigo bem; pois o Senhor me tinha posto em tuas mãos, e tu me não mataste.

19 Porque, quem há que, encontrando o seu inimigo, o deixaria ir por bom caminho? o Senhor pois te pague com bem, pelo que hoje me fizeste.

20 Agora pois eis que bem sei que certamente hás de reinar, e que o reino de Israel há de ser firme na tua mão.

21 Portanto agora jura-me pelo Senhor que não desarraigarás a minha semente depois de mim, nem desfarás o meu nome da casa de meu pai.

22 Então jurou Davi a Saul. E foi Saul para a sua casa, porém Davi e os seus homens subiram  ao lugar forte.

14 And David remained in the wilderness, in the strong places, and remained on a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph; and Saul sought him out every day, but God did not give him into his hand.

15 When David saw that Saul had gone out to seek his life, David was in the wilderness of Ziph, in a forest.

16 Then Jonathan, Saul's son, got up and went to David in the woods, and comforted his hand in God;

17 And he said to him, Fear not, that the hand of my father Saul will not find you; but you shall reign over Israel, and I will be with you the second: what my father Saul also knows.

18 And they both made a covenant before the Lord: David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan returned to his house.

19 Then the zephites went up to Saul, to Gibeah, saying, Did not David hide among us in the strong places of the forest, on the hill of Hachilah, which is on Jesimon's right hand?

20 Now therefore, O king, hurry down according to every desire of your soul; it remains for us to hand him over to the king.

21 Then Saul said, Blessed be you of the Lord, because you have compassion on me.

22 Go, therefore, and do more diligence, and know and notice the place you frequent, and whoever has seen you there; because I was told that it is very cunning.

23 So be careful, and be informed of all the hiding places in which he hides; and then surely return to me, and I will go with you; and it must be that if I am in that land, I will seek him among all the thousands of Judah.

24 Then they arose, and went to Ziphus, before Saul: David, however, and his men were in the desert of Maon, in the campaign, to the right of Jesimon.

25 And Saul and his men went in search of him; what they announced to David, who went down to that rock, and stayed in the desert of Maon: whoever heard Saul, followed David into the desert of Maon.

26 And Saul went from this side of the mountain, and David and his men from the other side of the mountain: and it came to pass that David hurried to escape from Saul; Saul, however, and his men surrounded David and his men to make use of them.

27 Then a messenger came to Saul, saying, Hurry, and come, because the Philistines rushed into the land.

28 So Saul returned from persecuting David, and went to meet the Philistines: for that reason that place was called Sela-Amalecote.

29 And David went up from there, and stayed in the strong places of Engedi.

16 Então se levantou Jônatas, filho de Saul, e foi para Davi ao bosque, e confortou a sua mão em Deus;

17 E disse-lhe: Não temas, que não te achará a mão de Saul, meu pai; porém tu reinarás sobre Israel, e eu serei contigo o segundo: o que também Saul meu pai, bem sabe.

18 E ambos fizeram aliança perante o Senhor: Davi ficou no bosque, e Jônatas voltou para a sua casa.

19 Então subiram os zifeus a Saul, a Gibeá, dizendo: Não se escondeu Davi entre nós, nos lugares fortes do bosque, no outeiro de Háquila, que está à mão direita de Jesimom?

20 Agora pois ó rei, apressadamente desce conforme a todo desejo da tua alma; por nós fica entregarmo-lo nas mãos do rei.

21 Então disse Saul: Benditos sejais vós do Senhor, porque vos compadecestes de mim.

22 Ide, pois, e diligenciai ainda mais, e sabei e notai o lugar que freqüenta, e quem o tenha visto ali; porque me foi dito que é astutíssimo.

23 Pelo que atentai bem, e informai-vos acerca de todos os esconderijos, em que ele se esconde; e então voltai para mim com toda a certeza, e ir-me-ei convosco; e há de ser que, se estiver naquela terra, o buscarei entre todos os milhares de Judá.

24 Então se levantaram eles, e se foram a Zife, diante de Saul: Davi porém e os seus homens estavam no deserto de Maom, na campanha, à direita de Jesimom.

25 E Saul e os seus homens se foram em busca dele; o que anunciaram a Davi, que desceu para aquela penha, e ficou no deserto de Maom: o que ouvindo Saul, seguiu a Davi para o deserto de Maom.

26 E Saul ia desta banda do monte, e Davi e os seus homens da outra banda do monte: e sucedeu que Davi se apressou a escapar de Saul; Saul, porém, e os seus homens cercaram a Davi e aos seus homens, para lançar mão deles.

27 Então veio um mensageiro a Saul, dizendo: Apressa-te, e vem, porque os filisteus com ímpeto entraram na terra.

28 Pelo que Saul voltou de perseguir a Davi, e foi-se ao encontro dos filisteus: por esta razão aquele lugar se chamou Sela-Amalecote.

29 E subiu Davi dali, e ficou nos lugares fortes de Engedi.

1 And it was announced to David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fought against Keilah, and plunder the threshing floors.

2 And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go, and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said to David, Go and strike the Philistines, and deliver Keilah.

3 But David's men said to him, “Behold, we fear here in Judah, let alone going to Keila against the Philistine squads.

4 Then David consulted the Lord again, and the Lord answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Keilah, because I give you the Philistines in your hand.

5 Then David went with his men to Queila, and fought against the Philistines, and led the cattle, and did great damage among them: and David delivered the inhabitants of Queila.

6 And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Achimelech, fled to David the Keilah, he went down with the ephod in his hand.

7 And it was announced to Saul that David was coming to Keilah, and Saul said, God has put him in my hands, for he is closed, entering a city of doors and bars.

8 Then Saul sent for all the people to go to war, to come down to Keilah, to surround David and his men.

9 When David knew that Saul was plotting this evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod here.

10 And David said, O Lord, God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city because of me.

11 Will the citizens of Queila hand me over to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Ah! Lord God of Israel! make it known to your servant. And the Lord said, He will come down.

12 And David said, Would the citizens of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul? And the Lord said, They would deliver.

13 Then David arose with his men, about six hundred, and went out of Keilah, and went where they could: and when it was announced to Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, he ceased to go out against him.
