16 Diga pois nosso Senhor a seus servos, que estão em tua presença, que busquem um homem que saiba tocar harpa, e será que, quando o espírito mau da parte do Senhor vier sobre ti, então ele tocará com a sua mão, e te acharás melhor.

17 Então disse Saul a seus servos: Buscai-me pois um homem que toque bem, e trazei-mo.

18 Então respondeu um dos mancebos, e disse: Eis que tenho visto a um filho de Jessé, o belemita, que sabe tocar, e é valente e animoso, e homem de guerra, e sisudo em palavras, e de gentil presença: o Senhor é com ele.

19 E Saul enviou mensageiros a Jessé, dizendo: Envia-me Davi, teu filho, o que está com as ovelhas.

20 Então tomou Jessé um jumento carregado de pão, e um odre de vinho, e um cabrito, e enviou-os a Saul pela mão de Davi, seu filho.

21 Assim Davi veio a Saul, e esteve perante ele, e o amou muito, e foi seu pajem de armas.

22 Então Saul mandou dizer a Jessé: Deixa estar a Davi perante mim, pois achou graça em meus olhos.

2 But Samuel said, How can I go? for when Saul hears it, he will kill me. And the Lord said, Take a calf of the cows in your hands, and say, I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.

3 And you will invite Jesse to sacrifice: and I will make known to you what you will do, and you will anoint me to whomever I tell you.

4 So he did what the Lord said, and came to Bethlehem: then the elders of the city went out to meet with trembling, and said, Peace is your coming?

5 And he said, It is peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord; sanctify yourselves and come with me to sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and invited them to sacrifice.

6 And it came to pass, when they came in, that he saw Eliab, and said, Surely the anointed one is before the Lord.

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Pay no attention to his appearance, nor to the height of his stature, because I have rejected him, because the Lord does not see how man sees, because man sees what is before the eyes, but the Lord looks at the heart.

8 Then he called Jesse to Abinadab: and made him pass before Samuel, who said, Nor has the Lord chosen him.

9 Then Jesse sent Sama over: but he said, Nor has he chosen the Lord.

9 Então Jessé fez passar a Sama: porém disse: Tão pouco a este tem escolhido o Senhor.

11 I regret having made Saul king; because he stopped following me, and did not execute my words. Then Samuel was upset, and all night he cried out to the Lord.

12 And Samuel woke up early to meet Saul in the morning: and he announced to Samuel, saying, Saul has already reached Carmel, and, behold, a column has risen for him. Then he did return, and passed and went down to Gilgal.

13 So Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, Blessed are you of the Lord; I performed the word of the Lord.

14 Then Samuel said, "How is it that my sheep are bleating in my ears, and the lowing of cows that I hear?"

15 And Saul said, They brought them from Amalek: because the people forgave the best of the sheep and the cows, to offer them to the Lord your God: the rest, however, we have completely destroyed.

16 Then Samuel said to Saul, "Wait, and I will tell you what the Lord said to me tonight." And he said to him: Speak.

17 And Samuel said, Perhaps you were small in your eyes, and you were not the head of the tribes of Israel? and the Lord has anointed you king over Israel.

18 And the Lord sent you on this path, and said, Go, and utterly destroy these sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them, until they annihilate them.

19 Why then did you not listen to the voice of the Lord, but flew to the spoil, and did what seemed evil in the eyes of the Lord?

20 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I heard the voice of the Lord first, and walked in the way the Lord sent me; and brought to Agag the king of Amalek, and the Amalekites I utterly destroyed;

21 But the people took the spoil of sheep and cows, the best of the forbidden ones, to offer to the Lord your God in Gilgal.

22 But Samuel said, Does the Lord have as much pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying his word from the Lord? behold, obeying is better than sacrificing; and to serve it better than sheep fat.

23 For rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft, and to preach is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you, lest you be king.

24 Then Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned because I have pierced the saying of the Lord and your words: because I feared the people and listened to his voice.

25 Now therefore, I beseech thee, forgive me my sin: and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.

26 But Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you: because you have rejected the word of the Lord, the Lord has already rejected you, lest you be king over Israel.

27 And turning Samuel to go, he took him by the edge of the cloak, and tore it.

28 Then Samuel said to him, The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to your neighbor better than you.

29 And also the One who is the Force of Israel does not lie or repent: because he is not a man to repent.

30 Then he said, I have sinned; but honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel: and return with me, that I may worship the Lord your God.

13 Veio pois Samuel a Saul; e Saul lhe disse: Bendito tu do Senhor; executei a palavra do Senhor.

14 Então disse Samuel: Que balido pois de ovelhas é este nos meus ouvidos, e o mugido de vacas que ouço?

15 E disse Saul: De Amaleque as trouxeram: porque o povo perdoou ao melhor das ovelhas e das vacas, para as oferecer ao Senhor teu Deus: o resto porém temos destruído totalmente.

19 Por que pois não destes ouvidos à voz do Senhor, antes voaste ao despojo, e fizeste o que parecia mal aos olhos do Senhor?

22 Porém Samuel disse: Tem porventura o Senhor tanto prazer em holocaustos e sacrifícios, como em que se obedeça à sua palavra do Senhor? eis que o obedecer é melhor do que o sacrificar; e o atender melhor é do que a gordura de carneiros.

23 Porque a rebelião é como o pecado de feitiçaria, e o profiar é como iniquidade e idolatria. Porquanto tu rejeitaste a palavra do Senhor, ele também te rejeitou a ti, para que não sejas rei.

24 Então disse Saul a Samuel: Pequei porquanto tenho transpassado o dito do Senhor e as tuas palavras: porque temi o povo e dei ouvidos à sua voz.

25 Agora pois, te rogo, perdoa-me o meu pecado: e volta comigo, para que adore ao Senhor.

26 Porém Samuel disse a Saul: Não tornarei contigo: porquanto rejeitaste a palavra do Senhor, já te  rejeitou o Senhor, para que não sejas rei sobre Israel.

27 E virando Samuel para se ir, ele lhe pegou pela borda da capa, e a rasgou.

28 Então Samuel lhe disse: O Senhor tem rasgado de ti hoje o reino de Israel, e o tem dado ao teu próximo, melhor do que tu.

29 E também aquele que é a Força de Israel não mente nem se arrepende: porquanto não é homem para que se arrependa.

30  Disse ele então: Pequei; honra-me porém agora diante dos anciãos do meu povo, e diante de Israel: e volta comigo, para que adore ao Senhor teu Deus.

23 तब यहोवा ने उस दिन इस्राएल को छुड़ाया: और डेरा बेथ-एवेन को चला गया।
