Os filisteus enviam a arca para fora da sua terra

1 Havendo pois estado a arca do Senhor na terra dos filisteus sete meses.

2 Os filisteus chamaram os sacerdotes e os adivinhadores, dizendo: Que faremos nós da arca do Senhor? Fazei-nos saber como a tornaremos  a enviar ao seu lugar.

3 Os quais disseram: Se enviardes a arca do Deus de Israel, não a envíeis vazia, porém sem falta lhe enviareis uma oferta para a expiação da culpa: então sereis curados, e se vos fará saber porque a sua mão se não tira de vós.

4 Então disseram: Qual é a expiação da culpa que lhe havemos de oferecer? E disseram: Segundo o número dos príncipes dos filisteus, cinco hemorróidas de ouro e cinco ratos de ouro: porquanto a praga é uma mesma sobre todos vós e sobre todos os vossos príncipes.

5 Fazei pois umas imagens das vossas hemorróidas e as imagens dos vossos ratos, que andam destruindo a terra edai glória ao Deus de Israel: porventura aliviará a sua mão de cima de vós, e de cima do vosso deus, e de cima da vossa terra.

6 Por que pois endureceríeis o vosso coração, como os egípcios e Faraó endureceram o seu coração? Porventura depois de os haver tratado mal, os não deixaram ir, e eles não se foram?

7 Agora pois tomai e fazei-vos um carro novo, e tomai duas vacas que criem, sobre as quais não tenha subido jugo, e atai as vacas ao carro, e levai os seus bezerros de após delas a casa.

8 Então tomai a arca do Senhor, e ponde-a sobre o carro, e metei num cofre, ao seu lado, as figuras de ouro que lhe haveis de oferecer em expiação de culpa, e assim a enviareis, para que se vá.

9 Vede então: se subir pelo caminho do seu termo a Bete-Semes, foi ele que nos fez este grande mal; e, se não, saberemos que não nós tocou a sua mão, e que isto nos sucedeu por acaso.

10 E assim fizeram aqueles homens, e tomaram duas vacas que criavam, e as ataram ao carro; e os seus bezerros encerraram em casa.

11 E puseram a arca do Senhor sobre o carro, como também o cofre com os ratos de ouro e com as imagens das suas hemorróidas.

12 Então as vacas se encaminharam direitamente pelo caminho de Bete-Semes, e seguiam um mesmo caminho, andando e berrando, sem se desviarem nem para a direita nem para a esquerda: e os príncipes dos filisteus foram atrás delas, até ao termo de Bete-Semes.

8 Ai de nós! quem nos livrará da mão destes grandiosos deuses? estes são os deuses que feriram os egípcios com todas as pragas junto ao deserto.

9 Esforçai-vos, e sede homens, ó filisteus, para que porventura não venhais a servir aos hebreus, como eles serviram a vós; sede pois homens, e pelejai.

10 Então pelejaram os filisteus, e Israel foi ferido, e fugiram cada um para a sua tenda; e foi tão grande estrago, que caíram de Israel trinta mil homens de pé.

15 And Samuel lay until morning, and then opened the doors of the house of the Lord: but Samuel was afraid to report this vision to Eli.

16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he said, Here I am.

17 And he said, What words did he speak to you? I ask you not to cover it up: so God make you, and so much more if you cover up a word of all the words I spoke to you.

18 Then Samuel told him all those words, and nothing covered him. And he said, The Lord is, do whatever seems right in your eyes.

19 And Samuel grew up, and the Lord was with him, and none of all his words dropped to the ground.

20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba, knew that Samuel was confirmed by the Lord's prophet.

21 And the Lord continued to appear in Shiloh: because the Lord was revealed to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.

21 E continuou o Senhor a aparecer em Silo: porquanto o Senhor se manifestava a Samuel em Silo pela palavra do Senhor.

1 And the young man Samuel served the Lord before Eli: And the word of the Lord was of great value in those days; there was no clear vision.

2 And it happened on that day that, while Eli was lying in his place (and his eyes were already darkening, which he could not see),

3 And while Samuel was already lying down, before the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, in which was the ark of God,

4 The Lord called Samuel, and he said, Here I am.

5 And he ran to Eli and said, Here I am because you called me. But he said: I did not call you, lie down again. And he went and lay down.

6 And the Lord called Samuel again. Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, Here I am, because you called me. But he said: I did not call you, my son, lie down again.

7 But Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been made known to him.

8 The Lord called Samuel again a third time, and he got up and went to Eli, and said, Here I am, because you called me. Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the boy.

9 So Eli said to Samuel, "Go to bed, and if you call, you will say, Speak, Lord, for your servant hears." So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 Then the Lord came, and there he was and called, as before, Samuel, Samuel. And Samuel said, Speak, for your servant hears.

11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Here am I going to do something in Israel, that everyone who hears it will ring both ears.

12 On that very day I will raise up against Eli all that I have spoken against his house: I will begin and finish him.

13 For I have already told him that I will judge his house forever, because of the iniquity that he knew well, because, having become his execrable children, he did not rebuke him.

14 Therefore I swore to the house of Eli that the iniquity of the house of Eli will never be atoned for with sacrifice or with offerings of food.

5 E correu a Eli e disse: Eis-me aqui porque tu me chamaste. Mas ele disse: Não te chamei eu, torna a deitar-te. E foi e se deitou.

6 E o Senhor tornou a chamar outra vez a Samuel. Samuel se levantou, e foi a Eli, e disse: Eis-me aqui, porque tu me chamaste. Mas ele disse: Não te chamei eu, filho meu, torna a deitar-te.

7 Porém Samuel ainda não conhecia ao Senhor, e ainda não lhe tinha sido manifestada a palavra do Senhor.

8 O Senhor pois tornou a chamar Samuel terceira vez, e ele se levantou e foi a Eli, e disse: Eis-me aqui, porque tu me chamaste. Então entendeu Eli que o Senhor chamava o mancebo.

9 Pelo que Eli disse a Samuel: Vai-te deitar, e há de ser que, se te chamar, dirás: Fala, Senhor, porque o teu servo ouve. Então Samuel foi e se deitou no seu lugar.

10 Então veio o Senhor, e ali esteve e chamou como das outras vezes: Samuel, Samuel. E disse Samuel: Fala, porque o teu servo ouve.

11 E disse o Senhor a Samuel: Eis aqui vou eu a fazer uma coisa em Israel, a qual todo o que ouvir lhe tinirão ambas as orelhas.

12 Naquele mesmo dia suscitarei contra Eli tudo quanto tenho falado contra a sua casa: começá-lo-ei e acabá-lo-ei.

13 Porque  já eu lhe fiz saber que julgarei a sua casa para sempre, pela iniqüidade que ele bem conhecia, porque, fazendo-se os seus filhos execráveis, não o repreendeu.

14 Portanto jurei à casa de Eli que nunca jamais será expiada a iniqüidade da casa de Eli com sacrifício nem com ofertas de manjares.
