27 And a man of God came to Eli, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I not actually speak to your father's house, while they were still in Egypt, in the house of Pharaoh?

28 And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be a priest, to offer on my altar, to light incense, and to bring the ephod before me; and I gave your father's house all the burnt offerings of the children of Israel.

29 Why do you kick against the sacrifice and against my food offering, which I commanded in my home, and honor your children more than me, to fatten yourself from the main of all the offerings of my people in Israel?

30 For therefore, saith the Lord God of Israel, In truth I said that thy house and thy father's house would walk before me perpetually; but now the Lord says, Far be it from me, for I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me will be old.

31 Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that there is no older man in your house.

32And you will see the tightening of the dwelling place of God, in place of all the good that he will have done to Israel: nor will there be any old man in your house for all days.

33 But the man I will not uproot from my altar will be to consume your eyes and to sadden your soul: and all the people in your house will die when they reach manly age.

34 And this will be a sign to you, namely: what will happen to your two sons, Hofni and Phinehas, who will both die on the same day.

35 And I will raise up for me a faithful priest, who will do according to my heart and my soul, and I will build a firm house for him, and will always walk before my anointed.

36 And whoever remains in the rest of your house will bow down to him for a silver coin and a piece of bread, and he will say, I beg you to admit me to some priestly ministry, so that I may eat a piece of bread.

27 E veio um homem de Deus a Eli, e disse-lhe: Assim diz o Senhor: Não me manifestei, na verdade, à casa de seu pai, estando eles ainda no Egito, na casa de Faraó?

28 E eu o escolhi dentre todas as tribos de Israel para sacerdote, para oferecer sobre o meu altar, para acender o incenso, e para trazer o éfode perante mim; e dei a casa de teu pai todas as ofertas queimadas dos filhos de Israel.

29 Por que dais coices contra o sacrifício e contra a minha oferta de manjares, que ordenei na minha morada, e honras a teus filhos mais do que a mim, para vos engordardes do principal de todas as ofertas do meu povo de Israel?

30  Porquanto, diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Na verdade tinha dito eu que a tua casa e a casa de teu pai andariam diante de mim perpetuamente; porém agora diz o Senhor: Longe de mim tal coisa, porque aos que me honram honrarei, porém aos que me desprezam serão envilecidos.

31 Eis que vêm dias em que cortarei o teu braço e o braço da casa de teu pai, para que não haja mais velho algum em tua casa.

32E verás o aperto da morada de Deus, em lugar de todo o bem que houvera de fazer a Israel: nem haverá por todos os dias velho algum em tua casa.

33 O homem porém que eu não desarraigar do meu altar será para vos consumir os olhos e para te entristecer a alma: e toda a multidão da tua casa morrerá quando chegar à idade varonil.

34 E isto te será por sinal, a saber: o que sobrevirá a teus dois filhos, a Hofni e a Finéias, que ambos morrerão no mesmo dia.

35 E eu suscitarei para mim um sacerdote fiel, que obrará segundo o meu coração e a minha alma, e eu lhe edificarei uma casa firme, e andará sempre diante do meu ungido.

36 E será que todo aquele que ficar de resto da tua casa virá a inclinar-se diante dele por uma moeda de prata e por um bocado de pão, e dirá: Rogo-te que me admitas a algum ministério sacerdotal, para que eu possa comer um pedaço de pão.

18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a young man, dressed in a linen ephod.

19 And his mother made him a small tunic, and brought him year after year, when he went up with her husband to sacrifice the annual sacrifice.

20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give you the seed of this woman, by the petition that you have made to the Lord. And he went back to his place.

21 So the Lord visited Ana, and conceived, and had three sons and two daughters. And the young Samuel grew up before the Lord.

22 But Eli was already very old, and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who flocked to the door of the congregation's tent in packs.

23 And he said to them, why do you do such things? because I hear your evil from all these people.

24 No, my children, for this is not a good report that I hear: you transgress the Lord's people.

25 If a man sins against a man, the judges will judge him; but if a man sins against the Lord, who will pray for him? But they did not hear their father's voice, because the Lord wanted to kill them.

26 And the young man Samuel grew, and became pleasant, both to the Lord and to men.

18 Porém Samuel ministrava perante o Senhor, sendo ainda mancebo, vestido com um éfode de linho.

19 E sua mãe lhe fazia uma túnica pequena, e de ano em ano lhe trazia, quando com seu marido subia a sacrificar o sacrifício anual.

20 E Eli abençoava a Elcana e a sua mulher, e dizia: O Senhor te dê semente desta mulher, pela petição que fez ao Senhor. E voltava para o seu lugar.

21 Visitou pois o Senhor a Ana, e concebeu, e teve três filhos e duas filhas. E o mancebo Samuel crescia diante do Senhor.

22 Era porém Eli já muito velho, e ouvia tudo quanto seus filhos faziam  a todo Israel, e de como se deitavam com as mulheres que em bandos se ajuntavam à porta da tenda da congregação.

23 E disse-lhes: por que fazeis tais coisas? porque ouço de todo este povo os vossos malefícios.

24 Não, filhos meus, porque não é boa fama esta que ouço: fazeis transgredir o povo do Senhor.

25 Pecando homem contra homem, os juízes o julgarão; pecando porém o homem contra o Senhor, quem rogará por ele? Mas não ouviram a voz de seu pai, porque o Senhor os queria matar.

26 E o mancebo Samuel ia crescendo, e fazia-se agradável, assim para com o Senhor como também para com os homens.

13 For the custom of those priests with the people was that, offering someone some sacrifice, the young man of the priest came, cooking the meat, with a three-pronged fork in his hand;

14 And he found it, in the boiler, or in the pot, or in the cauldron, or in the lunchbox: and whatever the fork took out, the priest took for himself: so they did to all Israel that went there to Silo.

15 Also before the fat was burned, the priest's young man came and said to the man who sacrificed: Give this meat to roast to the priest: but he will not take cooked meat from you, but raw.

16 And the man said to him, First burn the fat of today, and then take for yourself what your soul desires, then he said to him, No, now you will give it, and if not, I will take it by force.

17 The sin of these young men was very great before the Lord, because men despised the Lord's offering.

15 Também antes de queimarem a gordura vinha o moço do sacerdote, e dizia ao homem que sacrificava: Dá essa carne para assar ao sacerdote: porém não tomará de ti carne cozida, senão crua.

16 E, dizendo-lhe o homem: Queimem primeiro a gordura de hoje, e depois toma para ti quanto desejar a tua alma, então ele lhe dizia: Não, agora a hás de dar, e, se não, por força a tomarei.

17 Era pois muito grande o pecado destes mancebos perante o Senhor, porquanto os homens desprezavam a oferta do Senhor.

1 Then Ana prayed, and said, My heart exults the Lord, my power is exalted in the Lord: my mouth has been enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.

2 There is no saint as the Lord is; because there is no other outside of you: and there is no rock like our God.

3 Do not multiply words of the highest altitudes, nor do arduous things come out of your mouth: for the Lord is the God of wisdom, and through him are works weighed in the balance.

4 The bow of the forts was broken, and those who stumbled were girt with strength.

5 The hearty hired themselves for bread, and the hungry ceased: even the barren had seven children, and the one who had many children was weakened.

6 The Lord is the one who takes life and gives it down to the grave and brings it up again.

7 The Lord impoverishes and enriches: He lowers and also exalts.

8 The poor man raises the dust and lowers the dung to exalt the needy, to make him settle among princes, to make him inherit the throne of glory: for the foundation of the earth belongs to the Lord, and the world has settled on them.

9 The feet of his saints will keep them, but the wicked will remain silent in darkness: for man will not prevail by force.

10 Those who contend with the Lord will be broken; from the heavens it will thunder over them: The Lord will judge the ends of the earth: and will give strength to his king, and will exalt the power of his anointed.

11 Then Elkanah went to Ramah, to his house: but the boy remained serving the Lord before the priest Eli.

5 Os fartos se alugaram por pão, e cessaram os famintos: até a estéril teve sete filhos, e a que tinha muitos filhos enfraqueceu.

6 O Senhor é o que tira a vida e a dá faz descer a sepultura e faz tornar a subir dela.

7 O Senhor empobrece e enriquece: abaixa e também exalta.

8 Levanta o pobre, do pó, e desce o esterco exalta o necessitado, para o fazer assentar entre os príncipes, para o fazer herdar o trono de glória: porque do Senhor são os alicerces da terra, e assentou sobre eles o mundo.

9 Os pés dos seus santos guardará porém os ímpios ficarão mudos nas trevas: porque o homem não prevalecerá pela força.

20 And it came to pass that, after some time, Ana conceived, and had a son, and called his name Samuel; because she said, I have asked the Lord.

21 And that man Elkanah went up with all his house, sacrificing the annual sacrifice to the Lord and fulfilling his vow.

22 But Ana did not go up; but she said to her husband, When the boy is weaned, then I will take him, so that he appears before the Lord, and remains there forever.

23 And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Do what seems right in your eyes, stay until you wean him; just let the Lord confirm his word: so the woman remained, and gave milk to her son, until she weaned him.

24 And when he was weaned, he took him with him, with three calves, and an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord, to Shiloh, and he was a boy when he was very young.

25 And they slaughtered a calf: and so they brought the boy to Eli.

26 And she said, Ah! my lord, live your soul, my lord; I am that woman who was here with you to pray to the Lord.

27 For this boy I prayed; and the Lord granted me my petition, which I had asked of him.

28 For this reason I gave it to the Lord, for all the days I live: for it was asked of the Lord. And he worshiped the Lord there.

23 E Elcana, seu marido, lhe disse: Faze o que bem te parecer em teus olhos, fica até que o desmames; tão-somente confirme o Senhor a sua palavra: assim ficou a mulher, e deu leite a seu filho, até que o desmamou.

24 E, havendo-o desmamado, o levou consigo, com três bezerros, e uma efa de farinha, e um odre de vinho, e o trouxe à casa do Senhor, a Siló, e era o menino ainda muito criança.

25 E degolaram um bezerro: e assim trouxeram o menino a Eli.

26 E disse ela: Ah! meu senhor, viva a tua alma, meu senhor; eu sou aquela mulher que aqui esteve contigo, para orar ao Senhor.

27 Por este menino orava eu; e o Senhor me concedeu a minha petição, que eu lhe tinha pedido.

28 Pelo que também ao Senhor eu o entreguei, por todos os dias que viver: pois ao Senhor foi pedido. E ele adorou ali ao Senhor.

10 She therefore, with bitterness of soul, prayed to the Lord, and wept abundantly.

11 And he voted a vote, saying, Lord of hosts! if you kindly attend to the distress of your handmaid, and you remember me, and you do not forget your handmaid, but to your handmaid give a male child, to the Lord I will give him for all the days of his life, and over his head it will not pass a razor.

12 And it came to pass, as she continued to pray before the Lord, that Eli paid attention to her mouth.

13 Because Hannah spoke in her heart, only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli considered her drunk.

14 And Eli said to him, How long will you be drunk? Your wine is away from you.

15 But Ana answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit; I have neither drunk nor strong drink: but I have poured out my soul before the Lord.

16 Do not therefore have your handmaid as the daughter of Belial: because of the multitude of my care and my displeasure I have spoken until now.

17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant you your request that you asked of him.

18 And she said, Find thy servant grace in your eyes. So the woman went on her way, and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.

19 And they arose early in the morning, and worshiped before the Lord, and returned, and came to the house, to Ramah, and Elkanah knew Ana, his wife, and the Lord remembered her.

10 Ela pois, com amargura de alma, orou ao Senhor, e chorou abundantemente.

11 E votou um voto, dizendo: Senhor dos Exércitos! se benignamente atenderes para a aflição de tua serva, e de mim te lembrares, e da tua serva te não esqueceres, mas à tua serva deres um filho varão, ao Senhor o darei por todos os dias da sua vida, e sobre  a sua cabeça não passará navalha.

12 E sucedeu que, perseverando ela em orar perante o Senhor, Eli fez atenção à sua boca.

13 Porquanto Ana no seu coração falava, só se moviam os seus beiços, porém não se ouvia a sua voz: pelo que Eli a teve por embriagada.

14 E disse-lhe Eli: Até quando estarás tu embriagada? Aparta-te de ti o teu vinho.

15 Porém Ana respondeu, e disse: Não, senhor meu, eu sou uma mulher atribulada de espírito; nem vinho nem bebida forte tenho bebido: porém tenho derramado a minha alma perante o Senhor.

16 Não tenhas pois a tua serva por filha de Belial: porque da multidão dos meus cuidados e do meu desgosto tenho falado até agora.

17 Então respondeu Eli, e disse: Vai em paz: e o Deus de Israel te conceda a tua petição que lhe pediste.

18 E disse ela: Ache a tua serva graça em teus olhos. Assim a mulher se foi seu caminho, e comeu, e o seu semblante já não era triste.

19 E levantaram-se de madrugada, e adoraram perante o Senhor, e voltaram, e vieram à casa, a Ramá, e Elcana conheceu a Ana, sua mulher, e o Senhor se lembrou dela.

1 There was a man from Ramataim of Zophim, from the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroon, the son of Elihu, the son of Thuu, the son of Sufi, efratheus.

2 And this one had two women: the name of one was Ana, and the name of the other Penina: and Penina had children, but Ana had no children.

3 This man went up from his city from year to year to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Silo: and there were the priests in Silo: and there were the priests of the Lord, Hofni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli.

4 And it happened that on the day that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave portions to Penina, his wife, and to all his sons, and to all his daughters.

5 However, Ana gave an excellent part; because he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed his womb.

6 And her competitor irritated her excessively to make her sad: because the Lord had closed her womb.

7 And so he did from year to year: when she went up to the house of the Lord, so the other one irritated: for what she wept, and did not eat.

8 Then Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Ana why are you weeping? and why don't you eat? Am I not better than ten children?

5 Porém a Ana dava uma parte excelente; porquanto ele amava Ana, porém o Senhor lhe tinha cerrado a madre.

6 E a sua competidora excessivamente a irritava para a embravecer: porquanto o Senhor lhe tinha cerrado a madre.

7 E assim o fazia ele de ano em ano: quando ela subia à casa do Senhor, assim a outra irritava: pelo que chorava, e não comia.

8 Então Elcana, seu marido, lhe disse: Ana por que choras? e por que não comes? Não te sou eu melhor do que dez filhos?
