Samuel 01
Elcana and her two women
There was a man from Ramataim of Zophim, from the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroon, the son of Elihu, the son of Thuu, the son of Sufi, efratheus.
And this one had two women: the name of one was Ana, and the name of the other Penina: and Penina had children, but Ana had no children.
This man went up from his city from year to year to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Silo: and there were the priests in Silo: and there were the priests of the Lord, Hofni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli.
And it happened that on the day that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave portions to Penina, his wife, and to all his sons, and to all his daughters.
However, Ana gave an excellent part; because he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed his womb.
And her competitor irritated her excessively to make her sad: because the Lord had closed her womb.
And so he did from year to year: when she went up to the house of the Lord, so the other one irritated: for what she wept, and did not eat.
Then Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Ana why are you weeping? and why don't you eat? Am I not better than ten children?
