The Burning Serpents and the Metal Serpent
4 And they departed from the mount Hor, by the way of the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: but the soul of the people was distressed in this way.
5 And the people spake against God and against Moses, Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, that we should die in this wilderness? for here neither bread nor water is there; and our soul hath bored this vile bread.
6 And the Lord sent among the people fiery serpents, which bit the people; and many people of Israel died.
7 And the people came unto Moses, and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; Pray to the Lord that he take these serpents from us. Then Moses prayed for the people.
8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make an ardent serpent, and set it upon a rod: and it shall be, that every bitten thing that looketh upon it shall live.
9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a rod: and it was that, biting some serpent upon some man, he looked upon the serpent of brass, and it was alive.

4 Então partiram do monte de Hor, pelo caminho do Mar Vermelho, a rodear a terra de Edom: porém a alma do povo angustiou-se neste caminho.
5 E o povo falou contra Deus e contra Moisés: Por que nos fizestes subir do Egito, para que morrêssemos neste deserto? pois aqui nem pão e nem água há; e a nossa alma tem fastio deste pão vil.
6 Então o Senhor mandou entre o povo serpentes ardentes, que morderam o povo; e morreu muito povo de Israel.

1 And when the king of Haran, which dwelt in the south, heard of the Canaanite, that Israel came in the way of the spies, he fought against Israel, and brought some of them by captivity.
2 And Israel vowed a vow unto Jehovah, saying, If thou utter deliver this people in my hand, I will utterly destroy their cities.
3 And Jehovah heard the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites, which were utterly destroyed, they and their cities: and the name of that place called Hormah.

23 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, according to the land of Edom, saying,
24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people; for he shall not go into the land which I have given to the children of Israel: because ye rebelled at my word in the waters of Meribah.
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to mount Hor.
26 And Aaron cast off his garments, and clothed them with Eleazar his son: for Aaron shall be gathered, and there shall he die.
27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; because they went up to mount Hor under the eyes of all the congregation.
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and clothed them with Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

15 As our fathers went down into Egypt, and we abode in Egypt many days; and how the Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers:
16 And we cried unto the LORD, and he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us up out of Egypt; and, behold, we were in Kadesh, a city at the end of thy border.
17 Let us therefore pass through thy land; we will not pass through the field, nor through the vineyards, nor drink the water of the wells: we will go by the royal highway; we will not turn to the right or to the left until we pass through your borders.
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not go through me, lest I go near the sword to meet thee.
19 And the children of Israel said unto him, Let us go up by the way that is equal, and if I and my cattle drink of thy waters, I will give them the price of them: without doing anything else, let me alone walk.
20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom went out to meet many people, and with a strong hand.
21 And Edom refused to let Israel pass through his border: therefore Israel departed from him.

13 Whosoever toucheth any dead man, the corpse of any man that is dead, and purifieth not, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD: and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: for the water of separation is not sprinkled upon him; in him is his filthiness.
14 This is the law, when any man shall die in any tent: every one that goeth into that tent, and every one that is in that tent shall be unclean seven days.
15 And every open vessel, on which there is no cloth bound, shall be unclean.
16 And every one on the face of the field shall touch one slain by the sword, or another dead, or the bones of a man, or his grave, seven days' unclean.
17 For they shall take an unclean from the dust of the burning of the atonement, and upon it shall they put living water in a vessel.
18 And a clean man shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all that which is upon it, and upon the souls that are therein, and upon him that toucheth the bones, or upon him that was slain , or who has died, or a grave.
19 And the clean on the third and seventh day shall sprinkle upon the unclean: and on the seventh day he shall purify him; and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in the water, and the evening shall be clean.
20 But whosoever is unclean, and shall not purify himself, the soul shall be cut off from the midst of the congregation; because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the Lord: water of separation upon him shall not be sprinkled; filthy is.
21 This shall be a statute for ever: and he that sprinkleth the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he who touches the water of separation shall be unclean until the evening.
22 And all that the unclean shall touch also shall be unclean; and the soul that touches it shall be unclean until the evening.

1 Falou mais o Senhor a Moisés e a Aarão, dizendo:
2 Este é o estatuto da lei, que o Senhor ordenou,
dizendo: Dize aos filhos de Israel que te tragam uma bezerra ruiva sem defeito,
que não tenha mancha, e sobre que não subiu jugo.
3 E a darei a Eleazar, o sacerdote; e a tirará fora
do arraial, e se degolará diante dele.
4 E Eleazar, o sacerdote, tomará do seu sangue com o
seu dedo, e dele espargirá para frente da tenda da congregação sete vezes.
5 Então queimará a bezerra perante os seus olhos; o
seu couro, e a sua carne, e o seu sangue, com o seu esterco se queimará.
6 E o sacerdote tomará pau de cedro, e hissopo, e
carmesim, e os lançará no meio do incêndio da bezerra.
7 Então o sacerdote lavará os seus vestidos, e
banhará a sua carne em água e depois entrará no arraial, e o sacerdote será
imundo até a tarde.
8 Também o que a queimou lavará os seus vestidos com
água, e em água banhará a sua carne, e imundo será até a tarde.
9 E um homem limpo ajuntará a cinza da bezerra, e a porá
fora do arraial, num lugar limpo, e estará ele em guarda para a congregação dos
filhos de Israel, para a água da separação: expiação é.
10 E o que apanhou a cinza da bezerra lavará os seus
vestidos, e será imundo até á tarde: isto será por estatuto perpétuo aos filhos
de Israel e ao estrangeiro que peregrina no meio deles.
11 Aquele que tocar algum morto, cadáver de algum
homem, imundo será sete dias.
12 Ao terceiro dia se purificará, com ela, e ao
sétimo dia será limpo: mas, se ao terceiro dia se não purificar, não será limpo
ao sétimo dia.
13 Todo aquele que tocar algum morto, cadáver de
algum homem que estiver morto, e não se purificar, contamina o tabernáculo do
Senhor: e aquela alma será extirpada de Israel: porque a água da separação não
foi espargida sobre ele, imundo será: está nele ainda a sua imundícia.
14 Esta é a lei, quando morrer algum homem em alguma
tenda: todo aquele que entrar naquela tenda, e todo aquele que estiver naquela
tenda, será imundo sete dias.
15 Também todo vaso aberto, sobre que não houver pano
atado, será imundo.
16 E todo aquele que sobre a face do campo tocar a
algum que for morto pela espada, ou outro morto, ou aos ossos de algum homem,
ou a sua sepultura, será imundo sete dias.
17 Para um imundo pois tomarão , do pó da queima da
expiação, e sobre ele porão água viva num vaso.
18 E um homem limpo tomará hissopo, e o molhará
naquela água, e a espargirá sobre aquela tenda, e sobre todo o fato, e sobre as
almas que ali estiverem: como também sobre aquele que tocar os ossos, ou a
algum que foi morto, ou que faleceu, ou uma sepultura.
19 E o limpo ao terceiro e sétimo dia espargirá sobre
o imundo: e ao sétimo dia o purificará; e lavará os seus vestidos, e se banhará
na água, e á tarde será limpo.
20 Porém o que for imundo, e não se purificar, a tal
alma do meio da congregação será extirpada; porquanto contaminou o santuário do
Senhor: água de separação sobre ele será não foi espargida; imundo é.
21 Isto lhes será por estatuto perpétuo: e o que
espargir a água da separação lavará os seus vestidos; e o que tocar a água da
separação será imundo até a tarde.
22 E tudo que o imundo tocar também será imundo; e a
alma que o tocar será imunda até a tarde.
