The Holy Gospel According to Matthew 2 The Magi from the East

The Holy Gospel According to Matthew 2

The Magi from the East

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,

saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

When Herod the king heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.

And when he had gathered together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means the least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Then Herod, having secretly called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star had appeared.

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child; and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.”

And when they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed to their country another way.
