The Book of the Prophet Daniel 11 The Medo-Persian empire will be destroyed by the king of Greece: the kingdom will be divided into four. War between the king of the south and the king of the north

The Book of the Prophet Daniel 11

The Medo-Persian empire will be destroyed by the king of Greece: the kingdom will be divided into four.

War between the king of the south and the king of the north

In the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to encourage and strengthen him.

And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth will be richer than all the others; and with his riches he will stir up everyone against the kingdom of Greece.

Then a mighty king will arise, who will rule with great dominion and do as he pleases.

But when he is established, his kingdom will be broken and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his descendants, nor to the second power with which he reigned; for his kingdom will be uprooted and given to others.

Then the king of the south and one of his princes will become strong; And this one will become stronger than he, and he will reign, and his dominion will be great.

But after some years they will make an alliance; and the daughter of the king of the south will come to the king of the north to make a treaty; but she will not retain the strength of her arm; nor will he persist, nor his arm, because she will be given up, and those who brought her, and her father, and he who strengthened her in those times.

But from the shoot of her roots one will arise in her place, and he will come with an army, and he will enter the fortresses of the king of the north, and he will act against them, and he will prevail.

And also his gods with the multitude of their images, with their precious vessels of silver and gold, he will carry away captive to Egypt; and for some years he will persist against the king of the north.

And he will enter the kingdom of the king of the south, and return to his own land.

But his sons will intervene and gather a great number of armies; one of them will come swiftly, and will flood through and pass through; and returning, he will carry the war to his stronghold.

Then the king of the south will be enraged, and will go out and fight against him, against the king of the north; he will put a great multitude in the field, and the multitude will be delivered into his hand.

And when the multitude increases, his heart will be lifted up; but though he will overthrow many thousands, he will not prevail.

For the king of the north will return and put a greater multitude in the field than the first, and after a time, that is, years, he will come swiftly with a great army and with much wealth.

And in those days many will rise up against the king of the south; and the sons of the transgressors of your people will rise up to confirm the vision; but they will fall.

And the king of the north shall come, and shall raise up siege works, and shall take the fortified city; and the arms of the south shall not be able to stand, nor his chosen people: for there shall be no strength that shall stand.

He that shall come against him shall do according to his will; and none shall be able to stand before him: and he shall be in the glorious land; and by his hand shall destruction be wrought.

And he shall set his face to come with the strength of all his kingdom, and with him the righteous, and shall do as he pleaseth: and he shall give him a daughter of women, to corrupt her: but she shall not stand, nor shall she be for him.

Then shall he turn his face toward the islands, and shall take many: and a prince shall cause his reproach to cease from him, and shall even cause his reproach to return upon him.

Then he will turn his face toward the strongholds of his own land, but he will stumble and fall, and will not be found.

And in his place will arise one who will send a tax collector through the royal glory; but in a few days he will be broken, and this without anger or battle.

Afterward a vile man will arise in his place, to whom they had not given royal dignity; but he will come quietly and seize the kingdom by deceit.

And with the arms of a flood they will be swept away from before him; and they will be broken, as will the prince of the covenant.

And after the covenant with him, he will act deceitfully; and he will rise and be strengthened with a small number of people.

He will also come quietly to the most fertile places of the province, and will do what neither his fathers nor his fathers' fathers did; 24 He will divide the plunder and spoils and wealth among them, and he will devise plans against the strongholds, but only for a time.

He will stir up his power and his heart against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south will engage in war with a great and very powerful army; but he will not prevail, because they will devise plans against him.

Those who eat his delicacies will crush him; his army will be poured out, and many will fall slain.

These two kings will also have their hearts set on doing evil, and they will speak lies at the same table; but it will not prosper, for the end will come at the appointed time.

Then he will return to his land with great wealth, and his heart will be against the holy covenant; he will do as he pleases and return to his land.

At the appointed time he will come again against the south; but the latter time will not be like the former.

For ships of Kittim will come against him, bringing him grief; and he will return and be indignant against the holy covenant, and will do as he pleases; and he will return and heed those who have forsaken the holy covenant.

And arms will come out against him, who will profane the sanctuary and the fortress, and will take away the daily sacrifice, and will set up the abomination that causes desolation.

And those who violate the covenant he will corrupt with flattery, but the people who know their God will be strong and do exploits.

And those who are wise among the people will instruct many; yet they will fall by the sword, and by fire, and by captivity, and by plunder, for many days.

And when they fall, they will be helped with a little help; but many will join them with flattery.

And some of the wise will fall, to be tested, and purified, and made white, until the time of the end, for it is still at the appointed time.

And this king will do according to his will, and he will exalt himself and magnify himself above every god; and he will speak marvelous things against the God of gods, and he will prosper until the wrath is accomplished; for what is determined will be done.

He will not regard the gods of his fathers, nor will he regard the love of women, nor any god, for he will exalt himself above them all.

But he will honor the god of fortresses in his place; and a god whom his fathers did not know he will honor with gold, and with silver, and with precious stones, and with pleasant things.

He will deal with fortified castles with the help of a foreign god; to those who acknowledge him he will multiply honor, and he will make them rule over many, and he will divide the land for a price.

And at the end of the time the king of the south shall fight with him, and the king of the north shall attack him with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the lands, and shall flood them, and shall pass through.

And he shall also enter into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape out of his hand: Edom and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

And he shall stretch out his hand to the lands, and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

And he shall seize the treasures of gold and silver, and all the desirable things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall follow him.

But rumors from the east and from the north shall alarm him; and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and annihilate many.

And he shall pitch the tents of his palace between the great sea and the holy and glorious mountain; But it will come to its end, and there will be no one to help it.
