1 कैसे प्रभु ने अपने गुस्से में सिय्योन की बेटी को बादल से ढक दिया है! उसने इज़राइल की शान को आसमान से धरती पर गिरा दिया है, और अपने गुस्से के दिन अपने पांवों की चौकी को याद नहीं किया।

2 प्रभु ने याकूब के सभी घरों को खा लिया है, और उसे दया नहीं आई; अपने गुस्से में उसने यहूदा की बेटी के किलों को गिरा दिया है, और उन्हें ज़मीन पर गिरा दिया है; उसने राज्य और उसके हाकिमों को अपवित्र किया है।

1 How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger! He has cast down the glory of Israel from heaven to earth, and has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

2 The Lord has devoured all the dwellings of Jacob, and has not had pity; in his wrath he has thrown down the strongholds of the daughter of Judah, and has brought them down to the ground; he has profaned the kingdom and its princes.

3 In the fury of his anger he has cut off all the strength of Israel; he has withdrawn his right hand from before the enemy; and he has burned against Jacob like a flame of fire that consumes everything around.

4 He has bent his bow like an enemy; he has set his right hand like an adversary, and has slain all that was pleasant to the sight; he has poured out his indignation like fire on the tent of the daughter of Zion.

5 The Lord has become like an enemy; He devoured Israel, he devoured all her palaces, he destroyed her strongholds; and he multiplied lamentation and sorrow in the daughter of Judah.

6 He violently tore down her booth as if it were a garden booth; he destroyed her congregation: the Lord in Zion has made the solemnity and the Sabbath forgetful, and in the indignation of his anger he has rejected with contempt the king and the priest.

7 The Lord has rejected her altar, he detests her sanctuary; he has given the walls of her palaces into the hand of the enemy: they cried out in the house of the Lord, as on a day of solemn assembly.

8 The Lord intended to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion; he stretched out the measuring line, he did not withdraw his destroying hand; he made the outer wall and the wall groan; they are weakened together.

9 They have broken down its gates, he has destroyed and broken its bars; its king and its princes are among the nations where there is no law, nor do its prophets find any vision from the Lord.

10 The elders of the daughter of Zion sit silently on the ground; they throw dust on their heads, they gird themselves with sackcloth; the virgins of Jerusalem bow their heads to the ground.

11 My eyes are consumed with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured out on the ground because of the destruction of the daughter of my people; for the children and infants faint in the streets of the city.

12 Their mothers say, “Where is the grain and the wine?” when they faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, their souls poured out in their mothers’ laps.

13 What testimony shall I bring to you? To whom shall I compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To whom shall I liken you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your wound is as great as the sea; who will heal you?

14 Your prophets have seen for you vanity and folly, and have not exposed your iniquity, to turn away your captivity; but they have seen for you vain burdens and causes of expulsion.

15 All who pass by clap their hands, they hiss, and shake their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, “Is this the city which they ruled, perfect in beauty, the joy of all the earth?”

16 All your enemies open their mouths against you, they hiss and gnash their teeth; they say, “We have devoured her; surely this is the day we have waited for; we have found it, we have seen it.”

17 The Lord has done what he intended; he has fulfilled his word, which he commanded from the days of old: he has overthrown, and has not spared; He made the enemy rejoice because of you, he exalted the power of your adversaries.

18 Their hearts cried out to the Lord: “O wall of the daughter of Zion, let your tears flow like a river day and night; give yourself no rest, let not the apple of your eye cease.”

19 “Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches; pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord; lift up your hands to him for the life of your little children, who faint from hunger at the entrance of every street.”

20 “See, O Lord, and consider to whom you have done this! Shall women eat the fruit of themselves, the children they bear in their arms? Or shall priest and prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?”

21 Young and old lie on the ground in the streets; my virgins and my young men have fallen by the sword; you have killed them in the day of your wrath; You slaughtered them and had no pity on them.

22 You summoned my fears from every side, as on a solemn day; on the day of the Lord’s wrath, no one escaped or remained: those whom I carried in my hands and upheld, my enemy consumed.

1 Como cobriu o Senhor de nuvens na sua ira a filha de Sião! Derrubou do céu à terra a glória de Israel, e não se lembrou do escabelo de seus pés, no dia da sua ira.

2 Devorou o Senhor todas as moradas de Jacó, e não se apiedou: derrubou no seu furor as fortalezas da filha de Judá, e as abateu até à terra: profanou o reino e os seus príncipes.

3 Cortou no furor da sua ira toda a força de Israel; retirou para trás a sua destra de diante do inimigo; e ardeu contra Jacó, como labareda de fogo que tudo consome em redor.

4 Armou o seu arco como inimigo: firmou a sua destra como adversário, e matou todo o que era formoso à vista; derramou a sua indignação como fogo na tenda da filha de Sião.

5 Tornou-se o Senhor como inimigo; devorou Israel, devorou todos os seus palácios, destruiu as suas fortalezas; e multiplicou na filha de Judá a lamentação e a tristeza.

6 E arrancou a sua cabana com violência, como se fosse a de uma horta; destruiu a sua congregação: o Senhor em Sião pôs em esquecimento a solenidade e o sábado, e na indignação da sua ira rejeitou com desprezo o rei e o sacerdote.

17 Fez o Senhor o que intentou; cumpriu a sua palavra, que ordenou desde os dias da antiguidade: derrubou, e não se apiedou; fez que o inimigo se alegrasse por tua causa, exaltou o poder dos teus adversários.

18 O coração deles clamou ao Senhor: Ó muralha da filha de Sião: corram as tuas lágrimas, como um ribeiro, de dia e de noite; não te dês descanso, nem parem as meninas de teus olhos.

19 Levanta-te, clama de noite no princípio das vigias; derrama o teu coração como águas diante da face do Senhor: levanta a ele as tuas mãos, pela vida de teus filhinhos, que desfalecem de fome à entrada de todas as ruas.

20 Vê, ó Senhor, e considera a quem fizeste assim! Hão de as mulheres comer o fruto de si mesmas, as crianças que trazem nos braços? Ou matar-se-á no santuário do Senhor o sacerdote e o profeta?

21 Jazem em terra pelas ruas o moço e o velho; as minhas virgens e os meus mancebos vieram a cair à espada: tu os mataste no dia da tua ira; degolaste-os e não te apiedaste deles.

22 Convocaste de toda a parte os meus receios, como num dia de solenidade; não houve no dia da ira do Senhor quem escapasse ou ficasse: aqueles que trouxe nas mãos e sustentei, o meu inimigo os consumiu.

1 How lonely sits the city, once so full of people! She has become like a widow; she who was great among the nations, a princess among the provinces, has become a tributary!

2 She weeps continually in the night, and her tears run down her cheeks; among all her lovers she has no one to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they have become her enemies.

3 Judah has gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of the greatness of her servitude; she dwells among the nations, she finds no rest; all her persecutors have overtaken her in her distress.

4 The roads to Zion mourn, for no one comes to the appointed feasts; all her gates are desolate; her priests groan; her virgins are sad, and she herself is in bitterness.

5 Her adversaries have overtaken her, her enemies prosper; Because the Lord has afflicted her, because of the multitude of her transgressions; her little children go into captivity before the adversary.

6 And all her glory has departed from the daughter of Zion; her princes have become like deer that find no pasture, and they walk without strength before the pursuer.

7 Jerusalem remembers, in the days of her affliction and her rebellions, all her most precious things, which she had from the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the adversary, and she had no one to help her; the adversaries saw her, and mocked her Sabbaths.

8 Jerusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she has become unstable; all who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness; she also sighed and turned back.

9 Her uncleanness is in her skirts; she never remembered her end; therefore she was astonishingly brought down; she has no comforter; See, Lord, my affliction, for the enemy has grown great.

10 The adversary has stretched out his hand to all her precious things; for he has seen the nations enter her sanctuary, concerning which you commanded that they should not enter your congregation.

11 All her people are sighing, seeking bread; they have given their precious things in exchange for food to refresh their souls; See, Lord, and behold, for I have become despicable.

1 Como se acha solitária aquela cidade, dantes tão populosa! Tornou-se como viúva; a que foi grande entre as nações, e princesa entre as províncias, tornou-se tributária!

2 Continuamente chora de noite, e as suas lágrimas correm pelas suas faces; não tem quem a console entre todos os seus amadores: todos os seus amigos se houveram aleivosamente com ela, tornaram-se seus inimigos.

3 Judá passou em cativeiro por causa da aflição, e por causa da grandeza da sua servidão: habita entre as nações, não acha descanso: todos os seus perseguidores a surpreenderam nas suas angústias.

4 Os caminhos de Sião pranteiam, porque não há quem venha à reunião solene; todas as suas portas estão desoladas; os seus sacerdotes suspiram: as suas virgens estão tristes, e ela mesma tem amargura.

13 Desde o alto enviou fogo a meus ossos, o qual se assenhoreou deles: estendeu uma rede aos meus pés, fez-me voltar para trás, fez-me assolada e enferma todo o dia.

14 Já o jugo das minhas prevaricações está atado pela sua mão; elas estão entretecidas, subiram sobre o meu pescoço, e ele abateu a minha força: entregou-me o Senhor nas suas mãos, e eu não posso levantar-me.

15 O Senhor atropelou todos os meus valentes no meio de mim; apregoou contra mim um ajuntamento, para quebrantar os meus mancebos: o Senhor pisou como num lagar a virgem filha de Judá.

16 Por estas coisas choro eu; os meus olhos, os meus olhos se desfazem em águas; porque se afastou de mim o consolador que devia restaurar a minha alma: os meus filhos estão desolados, porque prevaleceu o inimigo.

17 Estende Sião as suas mãos, não há quem a console: mandou o Senhor acerca de Jacó que fossem inimigos os que estão em redor dele; Jerusalém é para eles como uma coisa imunda.

1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

2 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as Jehoiachin had done.

3 Therefore it happened that, because of the anger of the Lord against Jerusalem and Judah, he drove them out of his presence; and Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

4 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against Jerusalem with all his army. They encamped against it and built siege works all around it.

5 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

6 In the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, when the famine was severe in the city and the people of the land had no bread,

7 A breach was made in the city, and all the fighting men fled and went out by night by the way of the gate between the two walls that were by the king’s garden (for the Chaldeans were attacking the city all around), and they went by the way of the plain.

8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and all his army scattered, abandoning him.

9 And they captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, who pronounced sentence on him there.

10 And the king of Babylon slaughtered Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, and also slaughtered all the princes of Judah at Riblah.

20 The two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve bronze oxen that were in place of the bases, which King Solomon had made for the house of the Lord: the bronze of all the vessels was weightless.

21 As for the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, and a line of twelve cubits encircled it; its thickness was four fingers, and it was hollow.

22 And there was a capital of bronze on it, and the height of the capital was five cubits, and the network and the pomegranates around the capital were all of bronze; and the other pillar was like it, with pomegranates.

23 There were ninety-six pomegranates on each side; all the pomegranates were a hundred around the net.

24 ​​The captain of the guard also took Seraiah the high priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three doorkeepers.

19 E tomou o capitão da guarda os copos, e os incensários, e as bacias, e os caldeirões e os castiçais, e os perfumadores, e as galhetas: tanto o que era de puro ouro, como o que era de prata maciça.

20 As duas colunas, o único mar, e os doze bois de bronze, que estavam no lugar das bases, que fizera o rei Salomão para a casa do Senhor: o bronze de todos os vasos era sem peso.

21 Quanto às colunas, a altura de uma coluna era de dezoito côvados, e um fio de doze côvados a cercava; e era a sua espessura de quatro dedos, e era oca.

22 E havia sobre ela um capitel de bronze, e a altura do capitel era de cinco côvados, e a rede e as romãs em roda do capitel tudo era de bronze; e semelhante a esta a outra coluna, com as romãs.

23 E havia noventa e seis romãs  em cada banda: as romãs todas eram um cento, em roda da rede.

24 E levou também o capitão da guarda a Seraías, o sacerdote primeiro, e a Sofonias, o sacerdote segundo, e aos três guardas do umbral da porta.

25 E da cidade levou um eunuco que tinha a seu  cargo a gente de guerra; e a sete homens dos que viam a face do rei, que se acharam na cidade como também o escrivão-mor do exército, que registrava o povo da terra para a guerra, e mais sessenta homens do povo da terra, que se acharam no meio da cidade.

26 Tomando-os pois Nebuzaradão, capitão da guarda, os trouxe ao rei de Babilônia, a Ribla.

27 E o rei de Babilônia os feriu e os matou em Ribla, na terra de Hamate: assim Judá foi levado da sua terra para o cativeiro.

28 Este é o povo que Nabucodonosor levou cativo no sétimo ano: três mil e vinte e três judeus.

29 No ano décimo oitavo de Nabucodonosor ele levou cativas de Jerusalém oitocentas e trinta e duas almas.

30 No ano vinte e três de Nabucodonosor, Nebuzaradão, capitão da guarda, levou cativos dentre os judeus, setecentas e quarenta e cinco almas: todas as almas são quatro mil e seiscentas.

31 Sucedeu pois no ano trigésimo sétimo do cativeiro de Joaquim, rei de Judá, no mês duodécimo, aos vinte e cinco do mês que Evil-Merodaque, rei de Babilônia , no ano primeiro do seu reinado, levantou a cabeça de Joaquim, rei de Judá, e o tirou da casa da prisão;

32 E falou com ele benignamente, e pôs o seu trono acima dos tronos dos reis que estavam com ele em Babilônia;

33 E lhe mudou os vestidos da sua prisão; e comeu pão sempre na sua presença, todos os dias da sua vida.

1 यहोवा यह कहता है: देखो, मैं बेबीलोन के खिलाफ और मेरे खिलाफ उठने वालों के दिलों में रहने वालों के खिलाफ एक विनाशकारी हवा चलाऊंगा।

2 और मैं बेबीलोन के खिलाफ सूप बनाने वाले भेजूंगा, जो उसे सूप से साफ करेंगे, और उसकी ज़मीन खाली कर देंगे: क्योंकि वे मुसीबत के दिन चारों तरफ से उसके खिलाफ आएंगे।

3 तीरंदाज अपना धनुष उसी के खिलाफ उठाए जो अपना धनुष उठाता है, और उस पर जो अपने कवच पर घमंड करता है; और उसके जवानों को मत छोड़ो: उसकी पूरी सेना को खत्म कर दो।

4 और वे कसदियों की ज़मीन में मारे जाएंगे, और सड़कों पर मारे जाएंगे।

14 सेनाओं के प्रभु ने अपनी कसम खाई है, कहा: ज़रूर मैं तुम्हें एफिड्स की तरह इंसानों से भर दूँगा, और वे तुम्हारे लिए खुशी से गाएँगे।

15 उसने अपनी ताकत से धरती बनाई, और अपनी समझ से दुनिया को बनाया, और अपनी समझ से आसमान को फैलाया।

16 जब वह अपनी आवाज़ निकालता है, तो आसमान में पानी का ज़ोरदार शोर होता है, और धरती के कोने-कोने से भाप उठती है; वह बारिश से बिजली बनाता है, और अपने खज़ानों से हवा निकालता है।

17 हर आदमी जानवर है, और उसे कुछ नहीं आता; हर सुनार अपनी मूर्तियों से शर्मिंदा होता है; क्योंकि उसकी ढली हुई मूर्तियाँ झूठी हैं, और उनमें कोई जान नहीं है।

18 वे बेकार हैं, धोखे का काम हैं; जिस समय मैं उन्हें सज़ा दूँगा, वे खत्म हो जाएँगी।

19 याकूब का हिस्सा इनके जैसा नहीं है, क्योंकि वही सब चीज़ों का बनाने वाला है, और इस्राएल उसकी विरासत का गोत्र है; सेनाओं का यहोवा उसका नाम है।

20 तू मेरा हथौड़ा और मेरे युद्ध के हथियार हैं; तेरे साथ मैं राष्ट्रों को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा, तेरे साथ मैं राजाओं को खत्म कर दूँगा;

21 तेरे साथ मैं घोड़े और सवार को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा, तेरे साथ मैं रथ और उसके सवार को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा;

22 तेरे साथ मैं आदमी और औरत को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा, तेरे साथ मैं बूढ़े और जवान को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा;

22 और तेरे साथ मैं जवान आदमी और कुंवारी लड़की को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा;

23 और तेरे साथ मैं चरवाहे और उसके झुंड को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा; और तुम्हारे साथ मैं किसान और उसके बैलों के जोड़े को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा; और तुम्हारे साथ मैं सरदारों और अधिकारियों को चकनाचूर कर दूँगा।

24 और मैं बेबीलोन और कसदियों के सभी रहने वालों को उनकी सारी बुराई का बदला दूँगा, जो उन्होंने सिय्योन में तुम्हारे सामने की है, यहोवा कहता है।

25 देखो, मैं तुम्हारे खिलाफ हूँ, हे नाश करने वाले पहाड़, यहोवा कहता है, तुम जो पूरी धरती को नष्ट करते हो; और मैं तुम्हारे खिलाफ अपना हाथ बढ़ाऊँगा और तुम्हें चट्टानों से लुढ़का दूँगा, और तुम्हें आग का पहाड़ बना दूँगा।

26 और वे तुमसे कोने के लिए पत्थर या नींव के लिए पत्थर नहीं लेंगे, क्योंकि तुम हमेशा के लिए उजाड़ हो जाओगे, यहोवा कहता है।

30 बेबीलोन के ताकतवर लोगों ने लड़ना छोड़ दिया है; वे अपने किलों में रह गए हैं; उनकी ताकत खत्म हो गई है; वे औरतों जैसे हो गए हैं; उन्होंने अपने घरों में आग लगा दी है, उनकी सलाखें तोड़ दी गई हैं।

41 शेशाक को कैसे ले लिया गया है, और पूरी धरती की शान हैरान कर दी गई है! बेबीलोन कैसे देशों के बीच हैरानी का कारण बन गया है!

42 समुद्र बेबीलोन पर चढ़ गया है, और उसकी लहरें उसकी भीड़ से ढक गई हैं।

43 उसके शहर उजाड़ हो गए हैं, एक सूखी और सुनसान ज़मीन, एक ऐसी ज़मीन जहाँ कोई नहीं रहता, न ही कोई इंसान वहाँ से गुज़रता है।

44 और मैं बेबीलोन में बेल को सज़ा दूँगा, और उसके मुँह से वह सब छीन लूँगा जो उसने निगल लिया है, और देश फिर कभी उसके पास नहीं आएँगे; बेबीलोन की दीवार भी गिर गई है।

45 “हे मेरे लोगों, उसमें से निकल आओ, और तुम में से हर एक अपने आप को बचाओ, क्योंकि यहोवा का गुस्सा बहुत ज़्यादा है।

46 अपने दिलों को मत डरो, और न ही उस अफ़वाह से डरो जो देश में सुनाई देगी; क्योंकि एक साल में एक अफ़वाह फैलेगी, और दूसरे साल में दूसरी अफ़वाह; और देश में हिंसा होगी, शासक शासक के ख़िलाफ़।

47 इसलिए, देखो, वे दिन आ रहे हैं जब मैं बेबीलोन की खुदी हुई मूर्तियों को सज़ा दूँगा; उसके सभी मारे गए लोग उसके बीच में गिरेंगे।

48 तब आसमान और धरती, और उनमें जो कुछ भी है, बेबीलोन पर खुशी मनाएगा; क्योंकि उत्तर से उसके ख़िलाफ़ विध्वंसक आएंगे,” यहोवा कहता है।

49 जैसे बेबीलोन ने इस्राएल के मारे गए लोगों को गिराया है, वैसे ही सारी धरती के मारे गए लोग बेबीलोन में गिरेंगे।

50 तुम जो तलवार से बच गए हो, जाओ, रुको मत; 50 दूर से यहोवा को याद करो, और यरूशलेम को अपने दिलों में आने दो। 

51 तुम कहोगे: हम शर्मिंदा हैं, क्योंकि हमने बदनामी सुनी है; शर्म ने हमारे चेहरे ढक लिए हैं, क्योंकि अजनबी यहोवा के घर के पवित्र स्थानों पर आ गए हैं।

53 भले ही बेबीलोन स्वर्ग पर चढ़ जाए, और भले ही वह अपने गढ़ की ऊँचाई को मज़बूत कर ले, मेरी तरफ से उसे नष्ट करने वाले आएंगे, यहोवा कहता है।

54 बेबीलोन से चीखने की आवाज़ सुनाई दे रही है, और कसदियों के देश से बड़ी तबाही की आवाज़;

55 क्योंकि यहोवा बेबीलोन को नष्ट कर देगा, और उसकी बड़ी आवाज़ को उसके अंदर खत्म कर देगा; और उसकी लहरें बहुत सारे पानी की तरह गरजेंगी; उसकी आवाज़ का शोर सुनाई देगा।

56 क्योंकि नाश करने वाला उस पर, यानी बेबीलोन पर आ रहा है, और उसके वीर सैनिक बंदी बना लिए जाएँगे, और उनके धनुष तोड़ दिए जाएँगे; क्योंकि यहोवा, जो बदला देने वाला परमेश्वर है, उसे ज़रूर बदला देगा।

57 और मैं उसके हाकिमों, और उसके बुद्धिमानों, और उसके सरदारों, और उसके हाकिमों, और उसके वीर सैनिकों को नशे में धुत कर दूँगा; और वे हमेशा की नींद में सो जाएँगे, और जागेंगे नहीं, राजा, जिसका नाम सेनाओं का यहोवा है, यही कहता है।

58 सेनाओं का यहोवा यह कहता है; बेबीलोन की चौड़ी दीवारें पूरी तरह से तोड़ दी जाएँगी, और उसके ऊँचे फाटक आग से जला दिए जाएँगे; और लोग बेकार में मेहनत करेंगे, और देश आग के लिए होंगे, और थक जाएँगे।

59 वह बात जो यिर्मयाह नबी ने सरायाह को, जो नेरियाह का बेटा, मासेयाह का बेटा था, यहूदा के राजा सिदकिय्याह के साथ उसके राज के चौथे साल में बेबीलोन गया था; और सरायाह एक शांत राजकुमार था।

63 और जब तुम यह किताब पढ़ लोगे, तो तुम इसे एक पत्थर से बांधकर फरात नदी के बीच में फेंक दोगे।

1 Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon a destroying wind, and against those who dwell in the hearts of those who rise up against me.

2 And I will send winnowers against Babylon, who shall winnow her, and empty her land: for they shall come against her all around in the day of calamity.

3 Let the archer bend his bow against him who bends his bow, and against him who boasts of his armor; and do not spare her young men: destroy all her army.

4 And they shall fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and slain in the streets.

5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the Lord of hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.

6 Flee from the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul; Do not destroy yourselves in her wickedness, for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; he will repay her.

7 Babylon was a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, which made all the earth drunk; the nations drank of her wine; therefore the nations went mad.

8 In a moment Babylon has fallen and been destroyed; wail over her, take balm for her pain, perhaps she will be healed.

9 We wanted to heal Babylon, but she was not healed; leave her, and let each one go to his own land; for her judgment has reached to heaven, and has risen to the highest clouds.

10 The Lord has brought our righteousness to light; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.

11 Sharpen the arrows, prepare the shields perfectly; the Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of Media, for his purpose against Babylon is to destroy her. For this is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.

12 Set up a banner on the walls of Babylon, reinforce the guard, post sentinels, prepare the ambushes; for the Lord intended and did what he said concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 O you who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures! Your end has come, the measure of your greed.

14 The Lord of Hosts has sworn by himself, saying: Surely I will fill you with men, as with aphids, and they shall sing with joy over you.

15 He made the earth by his power, and ordered the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.

16 When he utters his voice, there is a great roar of waters in the heavens, and the vapors ascend from the end of the earth; he makes lightning with the rain, and brings forth the wind from his treasuries.

17 Every man is brutish, and has no knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his molten images are falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 They are worthless, a work of deceit; in the time when I visit them they shall perish.

19 Jacob’s portion is not like these, for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.

20 You are my hammer and my weapons of war; with you I will shatter nations, with you I will destroy kings;

21 With you I will shatter horse and rider, with you I will shatter chariot and its rider;

22 With you I will shatter man and woman, with you I will shatter old and young; 22 And with you I will shatter the young man and the virgin;

23 And with you I will shatter the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will shatter the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will shatter the captains and the magistrates.

24 And I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea for all their wickedness, which they have done in Zion in your sight, says the Lord.

25 Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says the Lord, you who destroy the whole earth; and I will stretch out my hand against you and roll you down from the rocks, and make you a mountain of fire.

26 And they shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for a foundation, for you shall become a perpetual desolation, says the Lord.

27 Raise a banner in the land, sound the trumpet among the nations, and consecrate the nations against her, summon against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a captain against her, and send up horses like a stingless aphid.

28 Consecrate against her the nations, the kings of Media, its captains, and all its officials, and all the land of its dominion.

29 Then the earth will tremble and mourn, for every one of the Lord’s plans stands firm against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitants.

30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed; they have become like women; they have set fire to their dwellings, their bars have been broken.

31 One messenger will run to meet another messenger, and one messenger to meet another messenger, to announce to the king of Babylon that his city has been taken on all sides.

32 The fords are occupied, and the reeds are burning with fire; and the men of war are dismayed.

33 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time of threshing; yet a little while, and the time of harvest will come for her.

34 Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, has devoured me, trampled me underfoot, made me an empty vessel; like a dragon he has swallowed me up, filled his belly with my delicacies; he has cast me out.

35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, says the inhabitant of Zion; and my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, says Jerusalem.

36 Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will plead your cause, and avenge you of the vengeance that is taken against you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her spring dry.

37 And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place of dragons, a horror and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

38 Together they shall roar like young lions; they shall growl like cubs of lions.

39 While they are excited, I will give them their drink, and I will make them drunk, so that they will leap about; but they will sleep a perpetual sleep, and will not wake up, says the Lord.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with the goats.

41 How Sheshach has been taken, and the glory of the whole earth has been taken by surprise! How Babylon has become an astonishment among the nations!

42 The sea has risen over Babylon, and its waves are covered with its multitude.

43 Her cities have become a desolation, a dry and deserted land, a land where no one lives, nor does any son of man pass through it.

44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will take away from his mouth what he has swallowed, and the nations will never again flock to him; also the wall of Babylon has fallen.

45 “Come out of her, my people, and save yourselves, every one of you, because of the fierce anger of the Lord.

46 Do not let your hearts be afraid, nor be afraid of the rumor that will be heard in the land; for in one year there will be a rumor, and in another year another rumor; and there will be violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

47 Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the carved images of Babylon; all her slain will fall in the midst of her.

48 Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, will rejoice over Babylon; for from the north will come destroyers against her,” says the Lord.

49 As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so in Babylon shall the slain of all the earth fall.

50 You who have escaped the sword, go, do not stop; 50 From afar remember the Lord, and let Jerusalem come up to your hearts.

51 You will say: We are ashamed, because we have heard reproach; shame has covered our faces, because strangers have come upon the sanctuaries of the house of the Lord.

52 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will punish her carved images; and the wounded one will groan throughout all her land.

53 Though Babylon should ascend to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her stronghold, from me shall destroyers come upon her, says the Lord.

54 The sound of a cry is heard from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans;

55 For the Lord destroys Babylon, and will cause her great voice to perish within her; and her waves will roar like many waters; the noise of her voice will be heard.

56 For the destroyer is coming upon her, upon Babylon, and her mighty men shall be taken captive, their bows broken: for the Lord, the God of recompense, will surely repay her.

57 And I will make her princes, and her wise men, and her captains, and her magistrates, and her mighty men drunk; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

58 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken down, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor in vain, and the nations shall be for the fire, and shall be weary.

59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign; And Seraiah was a peaceful prince.

60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that was to come upon Babylon: all these words that were written against Babylon.

61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you arrive in Babylon, you will see and read all these words.

62 And you will say, ‘Lord! You spoke concerning this place, that you would uproot it, so that no one would remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it would become a perpetual desolation.’

63 And it shall be that when you have finished reading this book, you shall bind it to a stone and throw it into the middle of the Euphrates.

64 And you shall say, ‘Thus Babylon shall be sunk, and shall not rise again, because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary.’ Thus far the words of Jeremiah.”

1 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que levantarei um vento destruidor contra Babilônia, e contra os que habitam no coração dos que se levantam contra mim.

2 E enviarei padejadores contra Babilônia, que a padejarão, e despejarão a sua terra: porque virão contra ela em redor no dia da calamidade.

3 O flecheiro arme o seu arco contra o que arma o seu arco, e contra o que presume da sua couraça; e não perdoeis a seus mancebos: destruí a todo o seu exército.

4 E mortos cairão na terra dos caldeus, e atravessados pelas ruas.

5 Porque Israel e Judá não foram abandonados do seu Deus, do Senhor dos Exércitos, ainda que a sua terra esteja cheia de culpas perante o Santo de Israel.

6 Fugi do meio de Babilônia, e livre cada um a sua alma; não vos destruais a vós na sua maldade: porque este é o tempo da vingança do Senhor; ele lhe dará a sua recompensa.

7 Babilônia era um copo de ouro na mão do Senhor, o qual embriagava a toda a terra; do seu vinho beberam as nações; por isso as nações enlouqueceram.

8 Num momento caiu Babilônia, e ficou arruinada: gemei sobre ela, tomai bálsamo para a sua dor, porventura sarará.

9 Queríamos sarar Babilônia, mas ela não sarou; deixai-a, e vá cada um para a sua terra: porque o seu juízo chegou até ao céu, e se elevou até as mais altas nuvens.

10 O Senhor trouxe a nossa justiça à luz: vinde e contemos em Sião a obra do Senhor, nosso Deus.

11 Alimpai as flechas, preparai perfeitamente os escudos: o Senhor despertou o espírito dos reis da Média; porque o seu intento contra Babilônia é para a destruir; pois esta é a vingança do Senhor, a vingança do seu templo.

12 Arvorai um estandarte sobre os muros de Babilônia, reforçai a guarda, colocai sentinelas, preparai as ciladas; porque o Senhor intentou e fez o que tinha dito acerca dos moradores de Babilônia.

13 Ó tu, que habitas sobre muitas águas, rica de tesouros! Chegou o teu fim, a medida da tua avareza.

14 Jurou o Senhor dos Exércitos por si mesmo, dizendo: Certamente te encherei de homens, como de pulgão, e eles cantarão com jubilo sobre ti.

15 Ele fez a terra com o seu poder, e ordenou o mundo com a sua sabedoria, e estendeu os céus com o seu entendimento.

16 Fazendo ele ouvir a sua voz, grande estrondo de águas há nos céus, e sobem os vapores desde o fim da terra: faz os relâmpagos com a chuva, e tira o vento dos seus tesouros.

17 Embruteceu-se todo o homem, e não tem ciência; envergonhou-se todo o ourives de imagem de escultura; porque a sua imagem de fundição é mentira, e não há espírito em nenhuma delas.

18 Vaidade são, obra de enganos: no tempo em que eu as visitar perecerão.

19 Não é semelhante a estes a porção de Jacó; porque ele é o criador de todas as coisas; e Israel é a tribo da sua herança: o Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome.

20 Tu és meu martelo e minhas armas de guerra, e contigo despedaçarei nações, e contigo destruirei os reis;

21 E contigo despedaçarei o cavalo e o cavaleiro; e contigo despedaçarei o carro e o que vai nele;

22 E contigo despedaçarei o homem e a mulher, e contigo despedaçarei o velho e o moço; e contigo despedaçarei o mancebo e a virgem;

23 E contigo despedaçarei o pastor e o seu rebanho; e contigo despedaçarei o lavrador e a sua junta de bois: e contigo despedaçarei os capitães e os magistrados.

24 E pagarei a Babilônia, e a todos os moradores da Caldéia, toda a sua maldade, que fizeram em Sião, à vossa vista, diz o Senhor.

25 Eis-me aqui contra ti, ó monte destruidor, diz o Senhor, que destróis toda a terra; e estenderei a minha mão contra ti e te revolverei das rochas, e farei de ti um monte de incêndio.

26 E não tomarão de ti pedra para esquina, nem pedra para fundamentos, porque te tornarás numa assolação perpétua, diz o Senhor.

27 Arvorai um estandarte na terra, tocai a buzina entre as nações, e santificai as nações contra ela, convocai contra ela os reinos de Arará, Mini e Asquenaz: ordenai contra ela um capitão, fazei subir cavalos, como pulgão agitado.

28 Santificai contra ela as nações, os reis da Média, os seus capitães, e todos os seus magistrados, e toda a terra do seu domínio.

29 Então tremerá a terra, e doer-se-á porque cada um dos desígnios do Senhor está firme contra Babilônia, para fazer da terra de Babilônia uma assolação, sem habitantes.

30 Os valentes de Babilônia cessaram de pelejar, ficaram nas fortalezas, desfaleceu a sua força, tornaram-se como mulheres: incendiaram as suas moradas, quebrados foram os seus ferrolhos.

31 Um correio correrá ao encontro de outro correio, e um mensageiro ao encontro de outro mensageiro, para anunciar ao rei de Babilônia que a sua cidade foi tomada de todos os lados.

32 E os vaus estão ocupados, e os canaviais queimando a fogo; e os homens de guerra ficaram assombrados.

33 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: A filha de Babilônia é como uma eira no tempo da debulha: ainda um pouco, e o tempo da sega lhe virá.

34 Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, me devorou, pisou-me, fez de mim um vaso vazio, como dragão me tragou, encheu o seu ventre das minhas delicadezas; lançou-me fora.

35 A violência que se me fez a mim e à minha carne venha sobre Babilônia, diga a moradora de Sião; e o meu sangue caia sobre os moradores da Caldéia, diga Jerusalém.

36 Pelo que assim diz o Senhor: Eis que pleitearei a tua causa, e te vingarei da vingança que se tomou contra ti; e secarei o seu mar, e farei que se esgote o seu manancial.

37 E Babilônia se tornará em montões, morada de dragões, espanto e assobio, sem um só habitante.

38 Juntamente rugirão como filhos dos leões: bramarão como cachorros de leões.

39 Estando eles excitados, lhes darei a sua bebida, e os embriagarei, para que andem saltando; mas dormirão um perpétuo sono, e não acordarão, diz o Senhor.

40 Fá-los-ei descer como cordeiros ao matadouro, como carneiros com os bodes.

41 Como foi tomada Sesaque, e apanhada de surpresa a glória de toda a terra! Como se tornou Babilônia um espanto entre as nações!

42 O mar subiu sobre Babilônia, com a multidão das suas ondas se cobriu.

43 Tornaram-se as suas cidades em assolação, terra seca e deserta, terra em que ninguém habita, nem passa por ela filho de homem.

44 E visitarei a Bel em Babilônia, e tirarei da sua boca o que ele tragou, e nunca mais concorrerão a ele as nações: também o muro de Babilônia caiu.

45 Sai do meio dela, ó povo meu, e livre cada um a sua alma, por causa do ardor da ira do Senhor.

46 E não se enterneça o vosso coração, nem temais pelo rumor que se ouvir na terra; porque virá num ano um rumor, e depois noutro ano outro rumor; e haverá violência na terra, dominador contra dominador.

47 Portanto, eis que vêm dias, em que visitarei as imagens de escultura de Babilônia: e todos os seus traspassados cairão no meio dela.

48 E os céus e a terra, com tudo quanto neles há, jubilarão sobre Babilônia: porque do norte lhe virão os destruidores, diz o Senhor.

49 Como Babilônia fez cair os traspassados de Israel, assim em Babilônia cairão os traspassados de toda a terra.

50 Vós, que escapastes da espada, ide-vos, não pareis; de longe lembrai-vos do Senhor, e suba Jerusalém ao vosso coração.

51 Direis: Envergonhados estamos, porque ouvimos opróbrio; vergonha cobriu o nosso rosto, porque vieram estrangeiros sobre os santuários da casa do Senhor.

52 Portanto, eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que visitarei as suas imagens de escultura; e gemerá o traspassado em toda a sua terra.

53 Ainda que Babilônia subisse aos céus, e ainda que fortificasse a altura da sua fortaleza, de mim viriam destruidores sobre ela, diz o Senhor.

54 O som de um clamor se ouve de Babilônia, e de grande destruição da terra dos caldeus;

55 Porque o Senhor destrói Babilônia, e fará perecer nela a sua grande voz; e as suas ondas bramirão como muitas águas: ouvir-se-á o arruído da sua voz.

56 Porque o destruidor vem sobre ela, sobre Babilônia, e os seus valentes serão presos, já estão quebrados os seus arcos: porque o Senhor, Deus das recompensas, certamente lhe retribuirá.

57 E embriagarei os seus, príncipes, e os seus sábios, e os seus capitães, e os seus magistrados, e os seus valentes; e dormirão um sono perpétuo, e não acordarão, diz o Rei, cujo nome é o Senhor dos Exércitos.

58 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Os largos muros de Babilônia totalmente serão derrubados, e as suas portas excelsas serão abrasadas pelo fogo; e trabalharão os povos em vão, e as nações serão para o fogo, e cansar-se-ão.

59 A palavra que mandou Jeremias, o profeta, a Seraías, filho de Nérias, filho de Maaséias, indo ele com Zedequias, rei de Judá a Babilônia, no ano quarto do seu reinado; e Seraías era um príncipe pacífico.

60 Escreveu pois Jeremias num livro todo o mal que havia de vir sobre Babilônia: todas estas palavras que estavam escritas contra Babilônia.

61 E disse Jeremias a Seraías: Em tu chegando Babilônia, verás e lerás todas estas palavras.

62 E dirás: Senhor! Tu falaste a respeito deste lugar, que o havias de desarraigar, até não ficar nele morador algum, desde o homem até ao animal, mas que se tornaria em perpétuas assolações.

63 E serás que, acabando tu de ler este livro, o atarás a uma pedra e o lançarás no meio do Eufrates.

64 E dirás: Assim será afundada Babilônia, e não se levantará, por causa do mal que eu hei de trazer sobre ela; e eles se cansarão. Até aqui as palavras de Jeremias.

1 वह बात जो प्रभु ने बेबीलोन के खिलाफ, कसदियों की ज़मीन के खिलाफ, यिर्मयाह पैगंबर के ज़रिए कही थी।

2 देशों में ऐलान करो, और ऐलान करो, और झंडा खड़ा करो; ऐलान करो, छिपाओ मत; कहो: बेबीलोन ले लिया गया है, बेल शर्मिंदा है, मरोदक कुचला गया है, उसकी मूर्तियां शर्मिंदा हैं, उसके देवता गिर गए हैं।

3 क्योंकि उत्तर से एक देश उसके खिलाफ आया है, जो उसकी ज़मीन को उजाड़ कर देगा, और उसमें कोई नहीं रहेगा; इंसान और जानवर दोनों भाग गए हैं और चले गए हैं।

11 क्योंकि तुम मेरी विरासत के लुटेरों, तुम खुश हुए और खुशी से उछले; तुम मोटी बछिया की तरह फूल गए और ताकतवर घोड़ों की तरह हिनहिनाए।

12 तुम्हारी माँ बहुत शर्मिंदा होगी, जिसने तुम्हें जन्म दिया वह शर्मिंदा होगी; देखो, वह देशों में सबसे छोटी, एक रेगिस्तान, एक सूखी ज़मीन और एक उजाड़ जगह होगी।

13 यहोवा के गुस्से की वजह से, वह बसी नहीं रहेगी, बल्कि पूरी तरह से उजाड़ हो जाएगी; जो कोई भी बेबीलोन के पास से गुज़रेगा वह हैरान होगा और उसकी सभी मुसीबतों पर फुफकारेगा।

17 इस्राएल एक बिखरा हुआ मेमना है; शेरों ने उसे भगा दिया है; सबसे पहले उसे अश्शूर के राजा ने खाया; और आखिर में, बेबीलोन के राजा नबूकदनेस्सर ने उसकी हड्डियाँ तोड़ दीं।

19 और मैं इस्राएल को उसके रहने की जगह पर वापस ले आऊँगा, और वह कार्मेल और बाशान में चरेगा; और उनकी आत्मा एप्रैम पहाड़ और गिलाद में तृप्त होगी। 

20 उन दिनों और उस समय, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, इस्राएल का अधर्म ढूँढ़ा जाएगा, पर वह न मिलेगा; और यहूदा के पाप भी न मिलेंगे; क्योंकि जिन्हें मैं बचा रहूँगा, उन्हें मैं क्षमा कर दूँगा।

21 मेराथैम देश पर चढ़ाई करो, उस पर चढ़ाई करो, और पेकोद के निवासियों पर भी चढ़ाई करो; उनके पीछे जो कुछ है, उसे पूरी तरह से नष्ट कर दो, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, और जो कुछ मैंने तुम्हें आज्ञा दी है, उसके अनुसार करो।

22 देश में युद्ध और बड़ी तबाही का शोर है।

35 यहोवा कहता है, “तलवार कसदियों पर और बेबीलोन के रहने वालों पर, उसके हाकिमों और बुद्धिमानों पर चलेगी।

36 तलवार झूठ बोलने वालों पर चलेगी, और तलवार उन्हें बेवकूफ़ बनाएगी; तलवार उनके ताकतवर लोगों पर चलेगी, और वे बेहोश हो जाएँगे।”

37 तलवार उनके घोड़ों और रथों पर, और उन सभी मिले-जुले लोगों पर भी चलेगी जो उसके बीच में हैं; और वे औरतों जैसे हो जाएँगे; तलवार तुम्हारे खज़ानों पर चलेगी, और वे लूट लिए जाएँगे।

38 उसके पानी पर सूखा पड़ेगा, और वे सूख जाएँगे; क्योंकि वह खुदी हुई मूर्तियों की ज़मीन है, और वे अपनी मूर्तियों से बहुत नाराज़ हैं।

39 इसलिए रेगिस्तान के जंगली जानवर वहाँ रहेंगे, द्वीपों के जंगली जानवरों के साथ; शुतुरमुर्ग भी वहाँ रहेंगे; और वह फिर कभी आबाद नहीं होगा, और न ही पीढ़ी-दर-पीढ़ी उसमें कोई रहेगा।

40 जैसे परमेश्वर ने सदोम और अमोरा और उनके पड़ोसियों को उखाड़ फेंका था, यहोवा कहता है; वैसे ही वहाँ कोई नहीं रहेगा, न ही कोई इंसान उसमें रहेगा।

41 देखो, उत्तर से एक लोग आ रहे हैं, और एक बड़ा देश, और धरती के कोने-कोने से ताकतवर राजा उठेंगे।

42 वे सन्दूक और भाला उठा लेंगे; वे बेरहम हैं, और वे दया नहीं जानते; उनकी आवाज़ समुद्र की तरह गरजेगी, और वे घोड़ों पर सवार होकर, लड़ाई के लिए तैयार आदमी की तरह तुम्हारे खिलाफ़ आएंगे, हे बेबीलोन की बेटी।

43 बेबीलोन के राजा ने उनकी शोहरत सुनी, और उसके हाथ ढीले पड़ गए; उसे दर्द हुआ, ऐसा दर्द जैसे किसी औरत को प्रसव पीड़ा हो रही हो।

44 देखो, यरदन नदी के बाढ़ से एक शेर जैसा कोई गढ़ के खिलाफ़ आएगा, लेकिन एक पल में मैं उसे वहाँ से भगा दूँगा; और मैं चुने हुए को उसके खिलाफ़ खड़ा करूँगा: क्योंकि मेरे जैसा कौन है? और कौन मुझे बुलाएगा? और कौन चरवाहा है जो मेरे सामने खड़ा हो सके?

45 इसलिए सुनो कि यहोवा ने बेबीलोन के खिलाफ़ क्या सलाह दी है, और कसदियों की ज़मीन के खिलाफ़ क्या योजनाएँ बनाई हैं: ज़रूर झुंड के छोटे बच्चे उन्हें घसीटकर ले जाएँगे; ज़रूर उनके रहने की जगह बर्बाद हो जाएगी।

46 बेबीलोन पर कब्ज़ा करने की आवाज़ से धरती काँप उठी; और देशों में चीख-पुकार सुनाई दी।
