1 O rei Belsazar deu um grande banquete a mil dos seus grandes, e bebeu vinho na presença dos mil.

2 Havendo Belsazar provado o vinho, mandou trazer os vasos de ouro e de prata, que Nabucodonosor, seu pai, tinha tirado do templo que estava em Jerusalém, para que bebessem por eles o rei, e os seus grandes, as suas mulheres e concubinas.

3 Então trouxeram os vasos de ouro, que foram tirados do templo da casa de Deus, que estava em Jerusalém, e beberam por eles o rei, os seus grandes, as suas mulheres e concubinas.

4 Beberam o vinho, e deram louvores aos deuses de ouro, e de prata, de cobre, de ferro, de madeira, e de pedra.

5 Na mesma hora apareceram uns dedos de mão de homem, e escreviam, defronte do castiçal, na estucada parede do palácio real; e o rei via a parte da mão que estava escrevendo.

6 Então se mudou o semblante do rei, e os seus pensamentos o turbaram: as juntas dos seus joelhos bateram um no outro.

7 E ordenou o rei com força, que se introduzissem os astrólogos, os caldeus e os adivinhadores: e falou o rei, e disse aos sábios de Babilônia: Qualquer que ler esta escritura, e me declarar a sua interpretação, será vestido de púrpura, e trará uma cadeia de ouro ao pescoço, e será, no reino, o terceiro dominador.

8 Então entraram todos os sábios do rei; mas não puderam ler a escritura, nem fazer saber ao rei a sua interpretação.

9 Então o rei Belsazar perturbou-se muito, e mudou-se nele o seu semblante; e os seus grandes estavam sobressaltados.

10 A rainha, por causa das palavras do rei e dos seus grandes, entrou na casa do banquete: e falou a rainha, e disse: Ó rei, vive para sempre! Não te turbem os teus pensamentos nem se mude o teu semblante.

11 Há no teu reino um homem, que tem o espírito dos deuses santos; e nos dias de teu pai se achou nele luz, e inteligência, e sabedoria, como sabedoria dos deuses; e teu pai, o rei Nabucodonosor, sim, teu pai, ó rei, o constituiu chefe dos magos, dos astrólogos, dos caldeus, e dos adivinhadores.

12 Porquanto se achou neste Daniel um espírito excelente, e ciência e entendimento, interpretando sonhos, e explicando enigmas, e solvendo dúvidas, ao qual o rei pôs o nome de Beltessazar: chame-se pois agora Daniel, e ele dará a interpretação.

13 Então Daniel foi introduzido à presença do rei. Falou o rei, e disse a Daniel: És tu aquele Daniel, dos cativos de Judá, que o rei, meu pai, trouxe de Judá?

14 Tenho ouvido dizer a teu respeito que o espírito dos deuses está em ti, e que a luz, e o entendimento e a excelente sabedoria se acham em ti.

15 Acabam de ser introduzidos à minha presença os sábios e os astrólogos, para lerem esta escritura, e me fazerem saber a sua interpretação; mas não puderam dar a interpretação destas palavras.

16 Eu porém tenho ouvido dizer de ti que podes dar interpretações e solver dúvidas: Agora, se puderes ler esta escritura, e fazer-me saber a sua interpretação, serás vestido de púrpura, e terás cadeia de ouro ao pescoço, e no reino serás o terceiro dominador.

17 Então respondeu Daniel, e disse na presença do rei: Os teus dons fiquem contigo, e dá os teus presentes a outro; todavia lerei ao rei a escritura, e lhe farei saber a interpretação.

18 Ó rei! Deus, o Altíssimo, deu a Nabucodonosor, teu pai, o reino, e a grandeza, e a glória, e a magnificência.

19 E por causa da grandeza, que lhe deu, todos os povos, nações e línguas tremiam e temiam diante dele: a quem queria matava, e a quem queria dava a vida; e a quem queria engrandecia, e a quem queria abatia.

20 Mas quando o seu coração se exalçou, e o seu espírito se endureceu em soberba, foi derrubado do seu trono real, e passou dele a sua glória.

21 E foi tirado dentre os filhos dos homens, e o seu coração foi feito semelhante ao dos animais, e a sua morada foi com os jumentos monteses; fizeram-no comer erva como os bois, e pelo orvalho do céu foi molhado o seu corpo, até que conheceu que Deus, o Altíssimo, tem domínio sobre os reinos dos homens, e a quem quer constitui sobre eles.

22 E tu, seu filho Belsazar, não humilhaste o teu coração, ainda que soubesse tudo isto.

23 E te levantaste contra o Senhor do céu, pois foram trazidos os vasos da casa dele perante ti, e tu, os teus grandes, as tuas mulheres e as tuas concubinas, bebestes vinho por eles; além disto, deste louvores aos deuses de prata, de ouro, de cobre, de ferro, de madeira e de pedra que não vêem, não ouvem, nem sabem; mas a Deus, em cuja mão está a tua vida, e todos os teus caminhos, a ele não glorificaste.

24 Então dele foi enviada aquela parte da mão, e escreveu-se esta escritura.

25 Esta pois é a escritura que se escreveu: MENE, MENE, TEQUEL, UFARSIM.

26 Esta é a interpretação daquilo: MENE: Contou Deus o teu reino e o acabou.

27 TEQUEL: \pesado foste na balança, e foste achado em falta.

28 PERES: Dividido foi o teu reino, e deu-se aos medos e aos persas.

29 Então mandou Belsazar que vestissem a Daniel de púrpura, e que lhe pusessem uma cadeia de ouro ao pescoço, e proclamassem a respeito dele que havia de ser o terceiro dominador do reino.

30 Naquela mesma noite foi morto Belsazar, rei dos caldeus.

31 E Dario, o medo, ocupou o reino, na idade de sessenta e dois anos.

1 King Nebuchadnezzar: To all peoples, nations, and languages ​​that dwell in all the earth: May peace be multiplied to you.

2 It seemed good to me to make known the signs and wonders that God, the Most High, has done for me.

3 How great are his signs, and how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation.

4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

5 I had a dream that frightened me; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

6 Therefore, I made a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

7 Then the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in, and I told them the dream; but they could not make known to me its interpretation.

8 But at last Daniel, whose name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods, came in before me; and I told him the dream:

9 “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret is too difficult for you; tell me the visions of my dream that I had and their interpretation.”

10 These were the visions of my head upon my bed: I was looking, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great;

11 The tree grew and became strong, so that its height reached to heaven; and it was visible to the ends of the earth.

12 Its foliage was beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all; Under it the beasts of the field found shade, and the birds of the air made their nests in its branches, and all flesh was nourished by it.

13 I was seeing this in the visions of my head, on my bed; and behold, a watcher, a holy one, was coming down from heaven.

14 He cried out loudly, and said thus: Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, scatter its fruit; let the beasts flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.

15 But leave the stump with its roots in the ground, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let its portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth.

16 Let his heart be changed from that of a man, and let a beast’s heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him:

17 This sentence is by decree of the watchers, and this order by command of the holy ones; so that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdoms of men and gives them to whomever he wishes, and even sets over them the lowest of men.

18 This is what I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw in a dream. Now you, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation. All the wise men of my kingdom could not make known to me the interpretation, but you can, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for about an hour, and his thoughts troubled him. So the king spoke and said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation trouble you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, may the dream be against those who hate you, and its interpretation against your enemies.

20 The tree that you saw, which grew and became strong, whose height reached to heaven, and which was visible to all the earth;

21 Whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in which there was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and in whose branches the birds of the air had their dwelling;

22 It is you, O king, who have grown and become strong; your greatness has grown and reached to the heavens, and your dominion to the ends of the earth.

23 And as for what the king saw, a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven, and saying, “Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump with its roots in the ground, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let its portion be with the beasts of the field, until seven times pass over it;

24 This is the interpretation, O king: and this is the decree of the Most High, which will come upon the king, my lord:

25 You will be driven away from among men, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field; you will eat grass like oxen, and you will be drenched with the dew of heaven; and seven times will pass by for you, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He wills.

26 And as for what was said, that they should leave the stump with the roots of the tree, your kingdom will return to you after you acknowledge that Heaven rules.

27 Therefore, O king, accept my advice, and atone for your sins by doing righteousness, and for your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, so that your prosperity may continue.

28 All these things came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.

29 At the end of twelve months, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,

30 the king spoke and said, “Is not this the great Babylon that I have built for the royal house by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”

31 While the word was still in the king's mouth, a voice came from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, this is what is decreed for you: Your royal authority has been taken from you.

32 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”

33 At that very moment what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like feathers and his nails like birds' claws. 

34 But at the end of those days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and glorified him who lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and whose kingdom endures from generation to generation.

35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he does according to his will with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What are you doing?”

36 At that time my understanding returned to me, and my majesty and splendor returned to me, for the dignity of the kingdom; and my captains and my nobles sought me out; and I was restored to my kingdom, and my glory was increased.

37 Now therefore I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and glorify the King of heaven, because all his works are true; and their ways are just, and he can humble those who walk in pride.

1 Nabucodonosor rei: a todos os povos, nações, e línguas, que moram em toda a terra: paz vos seja multiplicada.

2 Pareceu-me bem fazer conhecidos os sinais e maravilhas que Deus, o Altíssimo, tem feito para comigo.

3 Quão grandes são os seus sinais, e quão poderosas as suas maravilhas! O seu reino é um reino sempiterno, e o seu domínio de geração em geração.

4 Eu, Nabucodonosor, estava sossegado em minha casa, e florescente no meu palácio.

5 Tive um sonho, que me espantou; e as imaginações na minha cama e as visões da minha cabeça me turbaram.

6 Por mim pois se fez um decreto pelo qual fossem introduzidos á minha presença todos os sábios de Babilônia, para que me fizessem saber a interpretação do sonho.

7 Então entraram os magos, os astrólogos, os caldeus, e os adivinhadores, e eu contei o sonho diante deles; mas não me fizeram saber a sua interpretação.

8 Mas por fim entrou na minha presença Daniel, cujo nome é Beltessazar, segundo o nome do meu deus, e no qual há o espírito dos deuses santos; e contei o sonho diante dele:

9 Beltessazar, príncipe dos magos, eu sei que há em ti o espírito dos deuses santos, e nenhum segredo te é difícil; dize-me as visões do meu sonho que tive e a sua interpretação.

10 Eram assim as visões da minha cabeça, na minha cama: eu estava olhando, e vi uma árvore no meio da terra cuja altura era grande;

11 Crescia esta árvore, e se fazia forte, de maneira que a sua altura chegava até ao céu; e foi vista até aos confins da terra.

12 A sua folhagem era formosa, e o seu fruto abundante, e havia nela sustento para todos; debaixo dela os animais do campo achavam sombra, e as aves do céu faziam morada nos seus ramos, e toda a carne se mantinha dela.

13 Estava vendo isto nas visões da minha cabeça, na minha cama; e eis que um vigia, um santo, descia do céu.

14 Clamando fortemente, e dizendo assim: Derrubai a árvore, e cortai-lhe os ramos, sacudi as suas folhas, espalhai o seu fruto; afugentem-se os animais de debaixo dela, e as aves dos seus ramos.

15 Mas o tronco com as suas raízes deixai na terra, e com cadeias de ferro e de bronze, na erva do campo: e seja molhado do orvalho do céu, e a sua porção seja com os animais na grama da terra.

16 Seja mudado o seu coração, para que não seja mais coração de homem, e seja-lhe dado coração de animal; e passem sobre ele sete tempos:

17 Esta sentença é por decreto dos vigiadores, e esta ordem por mandado dos santos; a fim de que conheçam os viventes que o Altíssimo tem domínio sobre os reinos dos homens; e os dá a quem quer, e até ao mais baixo dos homens constitui sobre eles.

22 És tu, ó rei que cresceste, e te fizeste forte; a tua grandeza cresceu, e chegou até ao céu, e o teu domínio até à extremidade da terra.

26 E quanto ao que foi dito, que deixassem o tronco com as raízes da árvore, o teu reino voltará para ti, depois que tiveres conhecido que o céu reina.

27 Portanto, ó rei, aceita o meu conselho, e desfaze os teus pecados pela justiça, e as tuas iniqüidades usando de misericórdia com os pobres, se se prolongar a tua tranqüilidade.

28 Todas estas coisas vieram sobre o rei Nabucodonosor.

29 Ao cabo de doze meses, andando a passear sobre o palácio real de Babilônia,

34 Mas ao fim daqueles dias eu, Nabucodonosor, levantei os meus olhos ao céu, e tornou-me a vir o meu entendimento, e eu bendisse o Altíssimo, e louvei, e glorifiquei ao que vive para sempre, cujo domínio é um domínio sempiterno, e cujo reino é de geração em geração.

17 Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us; He will deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and from your hand, O king.

18 But even if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke and ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual.

27 E ajuntaram-se os sátrapas, os prefeitos, e os presidentes, e os capitães do rei, contemplando estes homens, e viram que o fogo não tinha tido poder algum sobre os seus corpos: nem um só cabelo da sua cabeça se tinha queimado, nem as suas capas se mudaram, nem cheiro de fogo tinha passado sobre eles.

28 Falou Nabucodonosor, e disse: Bendito seja o Deus de Sadraque, Mesaque e Abednego, que enviou o seu anjo, e livrou os seus servos, que confiaram nele, pois não quiseram cumprir a palavra do rei, preferindo entregar os seus corpos, para que não servissem nem adorassem algum outro deus, senão o seu Deus.

11 इसलिए, जो बात राजा पूछ रहा है वह मुश्किल है, और देवताओं के अलावा कोई भी इसे राजा के सामने नहीं बता सकता, जिनका निवास इंसानों के साथ नहीं है।

12 तब राजा बहुत गुस्से में आ गया और उसने बेबीलोन के सभी ज्ञानियों को मारने का आदेश दिया।

23 हे मेरे पूर्वजों के परमेश्वर, मैं आपकी तारीफ़ और आदर करता हूँ, क्योंकि आपने मुझे बुद्धि और शक्ति दी है; और अब आपने मुझे वह बताया है जो हमने आपसे माँगा था, क्योंकि आपने हमें राजा की बात बताई है।”

28 लेकिन स्वर्ग में एक भगवान है जो राज़ बताता है; उसने राजा नबूकदनेस्सर को बताया है कि बाद के दिनों में क्या होगा।” तुम्हारा सपना और तुम्हारे बिस्तर पर तुम्हारे सिर के दर्शन ये हैं:

29 जब तुम, हे राजा, अपने बिस्तर पर थे, तो तुम्हारे विचार इस बात पर थे कि इसके बाद क्या होगा। जो राज़ बताता है, उसने तुम्हें बताया है कि क्या होगा।

30 और यह राज़ मुझे इसलिए नहीं बताया गया कि मैं सभी जीवित लोगों से ज़्यादा समझदार हूँ, बल्कि इसलिए कि इसका मतलब राजा को बताया जा सके, और तुम अपने दिल के विचार समझ सको।

31 हे राजा, तुम देख रहे थे, और देखो, एक बड़ी मूर्ति! तुम्हारे सामने एक मूर्ति खड़ी थी, जो बहुत बड़ी थी और जिसकी शान बहुत अच्छी थी; और उसका रूप बहुत भयानक था।

39 और तुम्हारे बाद एक और राज्य आएगा, जो तुमसे छोटा होगा; और एक तीसरा राज्य, कांसे का, जो पूरी धरती पर राज करेगा। 

40 और चौथा राज्य लोहे जैसा मज़बूत होगा; क्योंकि जैसे लोहा हर चीज़ को टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर देता है और कुचल देता है, वैसे ही वह सब चीज़ों को कुचलेगा और तोड़ेगा।

42 और जैसे पैरों की उंगलियाँ कुछ लोहे की और कुछ मिट्टी की थीं, वैसे ही राज्य कुछ मज़बूत और कुछ कमज़ोर होगा।

43 जैसा तुमने लोहे को मिट्टी के साथ मिला हुआ देखा, वैसे ही वे इंसानों के वंश के साथ मिल जाएँगे, लेकिन वे एक-दूसरे से चिपके नहीं रहेंगे, जैसे लोहा मिट्टी के साथ नहीं मिलता।

44 लेकिन उन राजाओं के दिनों में स्वर्ग का परमेश्वर एक ऐसा राज्य बनाएगा जो कभी खत्म नहीं होगा, न ही यह किसी दूसरे लोगों के हाथ में छोड़ा जाएगा। यह इन सभी राज्यों को कुचल देगा और उन्हें खत्म कर देगा, लेकिन यह खुद हमेशा बना रहेगा।

1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him.

2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, the astrologers, the enchanters, and the Chaldeans, to tell the king what his dream had been; and they came and stood before the king.

3 And the king said to them, “I have had a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.”

4 And the Chaldeans said to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation.”

5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “What has escaped me; if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be torn in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill;

6 But if you tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts, rewards, and great honor. Therefore, tell me the dream and its interpretation.

7 They answered a second time and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will give its interpretation.”

8 The king answered and said, “I perceive very well that you want to gain time, for you see that what I dreamed has escaped me.

9 Therefore, if you do not make known to me the dream, there will be only one sentence for you: for you have prepared lying and perverse words to speak in my presence, until the time changes. Therefore, tell me the dream, so that I may understand that you can give me the interpretation.”

10 The Chaldeans answered in the presence of the king and said, “There is no one on earth who can tell the king the word; For no king, lord, or ruler has ever asked such a thing of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

11 Therefore, the thing that the king asks is difficult, and there is no one who can declare it before the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

12 Then the king became very angry and furious; and he gave orders to kill all the wise men of Babylon.

13 So the decree went out that the wise men should be killed; and they sought Daniel and his companions to kill them.

14 Then Daniel spoke wisely and prudently to Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon.

15 He answered and said to Arioch, the king’s prefect, “Why is the king’s command so urgent?” Then Arioch explained the matter to Daniel.

16 And Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might give the interpretation.

17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,

18 so that they might ask for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision; then Daniel praised the God of heaven.

20 Daniel spoke and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are his;

21 He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

22 He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with him.

23 O God of my fathers, I praise and honor you, for you have given me wisdom and might; and now you have made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”

 24 So Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to kill the wise men of Babylon. He went in and said to him, “Do not kill the wise men of Babylon. Bring me before the king, and I will give the king the interpretation.”

25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king and said to him, “I have found one of the exiles from Judah who can tell the king the interpretation.”

26 The king answered and said to Daniel (whose name was Belteshazzar), “Can you tell me the dream I had and its interpretation?”

27 Daniel answered the king and said, “The secret that the king requires, neither wise men nor astrologers, nor magicians nor soothsayers can reveal to the king.

28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets; he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the latter days.” Your dream and the visions of your head on your bed are these:

29 While you, O king, were on your bed, your thoughts turned to what would happen after this. He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will happen.

30 And this secret was revealed to me, not because I have more wisdom than all the living, but so that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you might understand the thoughts of your heart.

31 You, O king, were watching, and behold, a great image! An image, which was large and whose splendor was excellent, stood before you; and its appearance was awesome.

32 The head of that image was of fine gold; its chest and arms of silver; its belly and thighs of bronze;

33 Its legs of iron; its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.

34 You were watching while a stone was cut out, but not by human hands, which struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them.

35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were all broken to pieces and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer; the wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.

36 This was the dream; we will tell the king its interpretation.

37 You, O king, are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion, power, might, and glory.

38 Wherever humans live, whether animals of the field or birds of the air, he has given them into your hand; he has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

39 And after you shall arise another kingdom, inferior to yours; and a third kingdom, of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.

40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron; for as iron breaks in pieces and crushes everything, so shall it crush and break all things.

41 And as you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, so shall it be a divided kingdom; yet it shall have some of the strength of iron, just as you saw iron mixed with clay.

42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.

43 As you saw the iron mixed with clay, so shall they mingle with the seed of men, but they shall not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.

44 But in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

45 Just as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will happen in the future. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is trustworthy.

46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar went out on his face and worshiped Daniel, and commanded that an offering of food and incense be presented to him.

47 The king answered Daniel, “Truly, your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you were able to reveal this secret.”

48 Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel was at the king's gate.

2 E o rei mandou chamar os magos, e os astrólogos, e os encantadores, e os caldeus, para que declarassem ao rei qual tinha sido o seu sonho; e eles vieram e se apresentaram diante do rei.

3E o rei lhes disse: Tive um sonho; e para saber o sonho está perturbado o meu espírito.

4 E os caldeus disseram ao rei em siríaco: Ó rei, vive eternamente! Dize o sonho a teus servos, e daremos a interpretação.

5 Respondeu o rei, e disse aos caldeus: O que foi me tem escapado; se me não fizerdes saber o sonho e a sua interpretação, sereis despedaçados, e as vossas casas serão feitas um monturo;

6 Mas se vós me declarardes o sonho e a sua interpretação, recebereis de mim dons, e dádivas, e grande honra; Portanto declarai-me o sonho e a sua interpretação.

7 Responderam segunda vez, e disseram: Diga o rei o sonho a seus servos, e daremos a sua interpretação.

8 Respondeu o rei, e disse: Percebo muito bem que vós quereis ganhar tempo; porque vedes que o que eu sonhei me tem escapado.

9 Por conseqüencia, se me não fazeis saber o sonho, uma só sentença será a vossa: pois vós preparastes palavras mentirosas e perversas para as proferirdes na minha presença, até que se mude o tempo: portanto dizei-me o sonho, para que eu entenda que me podeis dar a interpretação.

10 Responderam os caldeus na presença do rei, e disseram: Não há ninguém sobre a terra que possa declarar a palavra ao rei; pois nenhum rei há, senhor ou dominador, que requeira coisa semelhante de algum mago, ou astrólogo, ou caldeu.

11 Portanto a coisa que o rei requer é difícil, e ninguém há que a possa declarar diante do rei, senão os deuses, cuja morada não é com a carne.

12 Então o rei muito se irou e enfureceu; e ordenou que matassem a todos os sábios de Babilônia.

13 E saiu o decreto, segundo o qual deviam ser mortos os sábios; e buscaram a Daniel e aos seus companheiros, para que fossem mortos.

14 Então Daniel falou avisada e prudentemente a Arioque, capitão da guarda do rei, que tinha saído para matar os sábios de Babilônia.

15 Respondeu, e disse a Arioque, prefeito do rei: Por que se apressa tanto o mandado da parte do rei? Então Arioque explicou o caso a Daniel.

16 E Daniel entrou; e pediu ao rei que lhe desse tempo, para que pudesse dar a interpretação.

17 Então Daniel foi para a sua casa, e fez saber o caso a Hananias, Misael e Azarias, seus companheiros,

18 Para que pedissem misericórdia ao Deus do céu, sobre este segredo, a fim de que Daniel e seus companheiros não perecessem, com o resto dos sábios de Babilônia.

19 Então foi revelado o segredo a Daniel numa visão de noite: então Daniel louvou o Deus do céu.

20 Falou Daniel, e disse: Seja bendito o nome de Deus para todo o sempre, porque dele é a sabedoria e a força;

21 E ele muda os tempos e as horas ele remove os reis e estabelece os reis: ele dá sabedoria aos sábios e ciência aos entendidos.

22 Ele revela o profundo e o escondido: conhece o que está em trevas, e com ele mora a luz.

23 Ó Deus de meus pais, eu te louvo e celebro porque me deste sabedoria e força; e agora me fizeste saber o que te pedimos, porque nos fizeste saber este assunto do rei.

24 Por isso Daniel foi ter com Arioque, ao qual o rei tinha constituído para matar os sábios de Babilônia: entrou, e disse-lhe assim: Não mates os sábios de Babilônia; introduze-me na presença do rei, e darei ao rei a interpretação.

25 Então Arioque depressa introduziu Daniel na presença do rei, e disse-lhe assim: Achei um dentre os filhos dos cativos de Judá, o qual fará saber ao rei a interpretação.

26 Respondeu o rei, e disse a Daniel (cujo nome era Beltessazar): Podes tu fazer-me saber o sonho que vi e a sua interpretação?

27 Respondeu Daniel na presença do rei, e disse: O segredo que o rei requer, nem sábios nem astrólogos, nem magos, nem adivinhos o podem descobrir ao rei;

28 Mas há um Deus nos céus, o qual revela os segredos; ele pois fez saber ao rei Nabucodonosor o que há de ser no fim dos dias; o teu sonho e as visões da tua cabeça na tua cama são estas:

29 Estando tu, ó rei na tua cama, subiram os teus pensamentos ao que há de ser depois disto. Aquele pois que revela os segredos te fez saber o que há de ser.

30 E a mim me foi revelado este segredo, não porque haja em mim mais sabedoria do que em todos os viventes, mas para que a interpretação se fizesse saber ao rei, e para que entendesses os pensamentos do teu coração.

31 Tu, ó rei, estavas vendo, e eis aqui uma grande estátua: uma estátua, que era grande e cujo o esplendor era excelente, estava em pé diante de ti; e a sua vista era terrível.

32 A cabeça daquela estátua era de ouro fino; o seu peito e os seus braços de prata; o seu ventre e as suas coxas de cobre;

33 As pernas de ferro; os seus pés em parte de ferro e em parte de barro.

34 Estavas vendo isto, quando uma pedra foi cortada, sem mão, a qual feriu a estátua nos pés de ferro e de barro, e os esmiuçou.

35 Então foi juntamente esmiuçado o ferro, o barro, o cobre, a prata e o ouro, os quais se fizeram como a pragana das eiras no estio, e o vento os levou, e não se achou lugar algum para eles; mas a pedra, que feriu a estátua, se fez um grande monte, e encheu toda a terra.

36 Este é o sonho; também a interpretação dele diremos na presença do rei.

37 Tu, ó rei, és rei de reis: pois o Deus do céu te tem dado o reino, o poder, e a força, e a majestade.

38 E onde quer que habitem filhos de homens, animais do campo, e aves do céu, ele tos entregou na tua mão, e fez que dominasses sobre todos eles; tu és a cabeça de ouro.

39 E depois de ti se levantará ouro reino, inferior ao teu; e um terceiro reino, de metal, o qual terá domínio sobre toda a terra.

40 E o quarto reino será forte como ferro; pois, como o ferro esmiúça e quebra tudo, como o ferro quebra todas as coisas, ele esmiuçará e quebrantará.

41 E, quanto ao que viste dos pés e dos dedos, em parte de barro de oleiro, e em parte de ferro, isso será um reino dividido; contudo haverá nele alguma coisa de firmeza do ferro, pois que viste o ferro misturado com o barro de lodo.

42 E como os dedos dos pés eram em parte de ferro e em parte de barro, assim por uma parte o reino será forte, e por outra será frágil.

43 Quanto ao que viste do ferro misturado com o barro de lodo, misturar-se-ão com semente humana, mas não se ligarão um ao outro, assim como o ferro se não mistura com o barro.

44 Mas, nos dias destes reis, o Deus do céu levantará um reino que não será jamais destruído; e este reino não passará a outro povo: esmiuçará e consumirá todos estes reinos, e será estabelecido para sempre.

45 Da maneira como viste que do monte foi cortada uma pedra, sem mãos, e ela esmiuçou o ferro, o cobre, o barro, a prata e o ouro, o Deus grande fez saber ao rei o que há de ser depois disto; e certo é o sonho, e fiel a sua interpretação.

46 Então o rei Nabucodonosor saiu sobre o seu rosto, e adorou a Daniel, e ordenou que lhe fizessem oferta de manjares e perfumes suaves.

47 Respondeu o rei a Daniel, e disse: Certamente, o vosso Deus é Deus dos deuses, e o Senhor dos reis, e o revelador dos segredos, pois pudeste revelar este segredo.

48 Então o rei engrandeceu a Daniel, e lhe deu muitos e grandes dons e o pôs por governador de toda a província de Babilônia, como também por principal governador de todos os sábios de Babilônia.

49 E pediu Daniel ao rei, e constitui ele sobre os negócios da província de Babilônia a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abednego; mas Daniel estava às portas do rei.

1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiachin king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

2 The Lord delivered Jehoiachin king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the articles from the temple of God. He carried them off to the land of Shinar, to the temple of his god, and put the articles in the treasury of his god.

3 Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the chief of his eunuchs, to bring some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility,

4 young men without any physical defect, handsome, well-educated, and skilled in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and understanding, who would have the ability to serve in the king’s palace and would be taught the language and literature of the Chaldeans.

5 The king assigned them a daily ration of the king’s food and of the wine that he drank, and that they should be trained for three years, so that at the end of that time they might stand before the king.

6 Among them were some of the sons of Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

7 The chief of the eunuchs gave them other names: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar, to Hananiah Shadrach, to Mishael Meshach, and to Azariah Abednego.

8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the king’s food or with the wine that he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9 Now God had shown favor and compassion to Daniel in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs.

10 Then the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. Why should he see your faces looking sadder than the faces of the young men who are your equals? So I will risk my life before the king.”

11 Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

12 “Please test your servants for ten days. Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.

13 Then let us see how we behave and how the young men who eat the king’s food behave. Treat your servants according to what you see fit.”

14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

15 At the end of the ten days their faces looked better; They were fatter than all the young men who ate the king's food.

16 So the steward took away their portion of food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

17 Now God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and wisdom. And Daniel had understanding of all visions and dreams.

18 At the end of the time set by the king for them to be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them before Nebuchadnezzar.

19 The king spoke with them, and among them all there were found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they stood before the king.

20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers in all his kingdom.

21 Daniel lived until the first year of King Cyrus.

1 No ano terceiro do reinado de Joaquim, rei de Judá, veio Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, a Jerusalém, e a sitiou.

2 E o Senhor entregou nas suas mãos a Joaquim, rei de Judá e uma parte dos vasos da casa de Deus, e ele os levou para a terra de Sinar, para a casa do seu deus, e pôs os vasos na casa do tesouro do seu deus.

3 E disse o rei a Aspenaz, chefe dos seus eunucos, que trouxesse alguns dos filhos de Israel, e da linhagem real e dos nobres,

4 Mancebos em quem não houvesse defeito algum, formosos de parecer, e instruídos em toda a sabedoria, sábios em ciência, e entendidos no conhecimento, e que tivessem habilidade para viverem no palácio do rei, a fim de que fossem ensinados nas letras e na língua dos caldeus.

5 E o rei lhes determinou a ração de cada dia, da porção do manjar do rei, e do vinho que ele bebia, e que assim fossem criados por três anos, para que no fim deles pudessem estar diante do rei.

6 E entre eles se achavam, dos filhos de Judá, Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias.

7 E o chefe dos eunucos lhes pôs outros nomes, a saber: a Daniel pôs o de Beltessazar, e a Hananias o de Sadraque, e a Misael o de Mesaque, e a Azarias o de Abednego.

8 E Daniel assentou no seu coração não se contaminar com a porção do manjar do rei, nem com o vinho que ele bebia; portanto pediu ao chefe dos eunucos que lhe concedesse não se contaminar.

9 Ora deu Deus a Daniel graça e misericórdia diante do chefe dos eunucos.

12 Experimenta, peço-te, os teus servos dez dias, fazendo que se nos dêem legumes a comer, e água a beber.

13 Então se veja diante de ti o nosso parecer, e o parecer dos mancebos que comem a porção do manjar do rei, e, conforme vires, te hajas com os teus servos.

14 E ele conveio nisto, e os experimentou dez dias.

15 E, ao fim dos dez dias, apareceram os seus semblantes melhores; eles estavam mais gordos do que todos os mancebos que comiam a porção do manjar do rei.

16 Desta sorte, o despenseiro tirou a porção do manjar deles, e o vinho que deviam beber, e lhes dava legumes.

17 Ora, a estes quatro mancebos Deus deu o conhecimento e a inteligência em todas as letras, e sabedoria; mas a Daniel deu entendimento em toda a visão e sonhos.

18 E ao fim dos dias, em que o rei tinha dito que os trouxessem, o chefe dos eunucos os trouxe diante de Nabucodonosor.

19 E o rei falou com eles; e entre todos eles não foram achados outros tais como Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias; por isso permaneceram diante do rei.

20 E em toda a matéria de sabedoria e de inteligência, sobre que o rei lhes fez perguntas, os achou dez vezes mais doutos do que todos os magos ou astrólogos que havia em todo o seu reino.

21 E Daniel esteve até ao primeiro ano do rei Ciro.
