1 जब सिदकियाह राज करने लगा, तब वह इक्कीस साल का था, और उसने यरूशलेम में ग्यारह साल राज किया। उसकी माँ का नाम हमुतल था, जो लिब्ना के यिर्मयाह की बेटी थी।

2 उसने वही किया जो यहोवा की नज़र में बुरा था, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे यहोयाकीन ने किया था।

3 इसलिए ऐसा हुआ कि यरूशलेम और यहूदा पर यहोवा के गुस्से की वजह से, उसने उन्हें अपने सामने से निकाल दिया; और सिदकियाह ने बेबीलोन के राजा के खिलाफ बगावत कर दी।

4 अपने राज के नौवें साल में, दसवें महीने के दसवें दिन, बेबीलोन का राजा नबूकदनेस्सर अपनी पूरी सेना के साथ यरूशलेम पर आया। उन्होंने उसके खिलाफ डेरा डाला और उसके चारों ओर घेराबंदी के काम किए।

The Siege, Capture, and Destruction of Jerusalem

1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

2 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as Jehoiachin had done.

3 Therefore it happened that, because of the anger of the Lord against Jerusalem and Judah, he drove them out of his presence; and Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

4 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against Jerusalem with all his army. They encamped against it and built siege works all around it.

5 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

6 In the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, when the famine was severe in the city and the people of the land had no bread,

7 A breach was made in the city, and all the fighting men fled and went out by night by the way of the gate between the two walls that were by the king’s garden (for the Chaldeans were attacking the city all around), and they went by the way of the plain.

8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and all his army scattered, abandoning him.

9 And they captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, who pronounced sentence on him there.

10 And the king of Babylon slaughtered Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, and also slaughtered all the princes of Judah at Riblah.

11 Then he gouged out Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with bronze chains. The king of Babylon carried him away to Babylon and kept him in prison until the day of his death.

12 In the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month (this was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon), Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, who served in the presence of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

13 He burned the house of the Lord and the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; he also burned all the houses of the nobles.

14 The whole army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls surrounding Jerusalem.

15 And the poorest of the people, and the part of the people who had remained in the city, and the rebels who had gone over to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away captive.

16 But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and farmers.

17 The Chaldeans also broke in pieces the bronze pillars that were in the house of the Lord, and the bases, and the bronze sea that were in the house of the Lord, and carried all the bronze to Babylon.

18 They also took the pots, and the shovels, and the forks, and the basins, and the incense burners, and all the bronze vessels with which one ministered.

19 Then the captain of the guard took the cups, the censers, the basins, the pots, the lampstands, the incense burners, and the pitchers, both of pure gold and of solid silver.

20 The two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve bronze oxen that were in place of the bases, which King Solomon had made for the house of the Lord: the bronze of all the vessels was weightless.

21 As for the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, and a line of twelve cubits encircled it; its thickness was four fingers, and it was hollow.

22 And there was a capital of bronze on it, and the height of the capital was five cubits, and the network and the pomegranates around the capital were all of bronze; and the other pillar was like it, with pomegranates.

23 There were ninety-six pomegranates on each side; all the pomegranates were a hundred around the net.

24 ​​The captain of the guard also took Seraiah the high priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three doorkeepers.

25 From the city he took a eunuch who was in charge of the fighting men, and seven men who saw the king’s face and were found in the city, as well as the chief scribe of the army, who registered the people of the land for war, and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the midst of the city.

26 Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.

27 The king of Babylon struck them down and killed them at Riblah in the land of Hamath; so Judah was carried away captive out of its land.

28 This is the people whom Nebuchadnezzar carried away captive in the seventh year: three thousand and twenty-three Jews.

29 In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred and thirty-two souls.

30 In the twenty-third year of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, carried away captive from among the Jews seven hundred and forty-five souls; all the souls are four thousand and six hundred.

31 Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him out of the prison house;

32 And he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the thrones of the kings who were with him in Babylon;

33 And he changed his prison garments; and he ate bread continually in his presence all the days of his life.

34 And as for his treatment, he was always given the ordinary treatment of the king of Babylon, his daily portion, until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

18 Também tomaram os caldeirões, e as pás, e os garfos, e as bacias, e os perfumadores, e todos os vasos de bronze, com que se ministrava.

19 E tomou o capitão da guarda os copos, e os incensários, e as bacias, e os caldeirões e os castiçais, e os perfumadores, e as galhetas: tanto o que era de puro ouro, como o que era de prata maciça.

20 As duas colunas, o único mar, e os doze bois de bronze, que estavam no lugar das bases, que fizera o rei Salomão para a casa do Senhor: o bronze de todos os vasos era sem peso.

21 Quanto às colunas, a altura de uma coluna era de dezoito côvados, e um fio de doze côvados a cercava; e era a sua espessura de quatro dedos, e era oca.

22 E havia sobre ela um capitel de bronze, e a altura do capitel era de cinco côvados, e a rede e as romãs em roda do capitel tudo era de bronze; e semelhante a esta a outra coluna, com as romãs.

23 E havia noventa e seis romãs  em cada banda: as romãs todas eram um cento, em roda da rede.

24 E levou também o capitão da guarda a Seraías, o sacerdote primeiro, e a Sofonias, o sacerdote segundo, e aos três guardas do umbral da porta.

25 E da cidade levou um eunuco que tinha a seu  cargo a gente de guerra; e a sete homens dos que viam a face do rei, que se acharam na cidade como também o escrivão-mor do exército, que registrava o povo da terra para a guerra, e mais sessenta homens do povo da terra, que se acharam no meio da cidade.

26 Tomando-os pois Nebuzaradão, capitão da guarda, os trouxe ao rei de Babilônia, a Ribla.

27 E o rei de Babilônia os feriu e os matou em Ribla, na terra de Hamate: assim Judá foi levado da sua terra para o cativeiro.

28 Este é o povo que Nabucodonosor levou cativo no sétimo ano: três mil e vinte e três judeus.

29 No ano décimo oitavo de Nabucodonosor ele levou cativas de Jerusalém oitocentas e trinta e duas almas.

30 No ano vinte e três de Nabucodonosor, Nebuzaradão, capitão da guarda, levou cativos dentre os judeus, setecentas e quarenta e cinco almas: todas as almas são quatro mil e seiscentas.

31 Sucedeu pois no ano trigésimo sétimo do cativeiro de Joaquim, rei de Judá, no mês duodécimo, aos vinte e cinco do mês que Evil-Merodaque, rei de Babilônia , no ano primeiro do seu reinado, levantou a cabeça de Joaquim, rei de Judá, e o tirou da casa da prisão;

32 E falou com ele benignamente, e pôs o seu trono acima dos tronos dos reis que estavam com ele em Babilônia;

33 E lhe mudou os vestidos da sua prisão; e comeu pão sempre na sua presença, todos os dias da sua vida.

16 जब वह अपनी आवाज़ निकालता है, तो आसमान में पानी का ज़ोरदार शोर होता है, और धरती के कोने-कोने से भाप उठती है; वह बारिश से बिजली बनाता है, और अपने खज़ानों से हवा निकालता है।

45 “हे मेरे लोगों, उसमें से निकल आओ, और तुम में से हर एक अपने आप को बचाओ, क्योंकि यहोवा का गुस्सा बहुत ज़्यादा है।

46 अपने दिलों को मत डरो, और न ही उस अफ़वाह से डरो जो देश में सुनाई देगी; क्योंकि एक साल में एक अफ़वाह फैलेगी, और दूसरे साल में दूसरी अफ़वाह; और देश में हिंसा होगी, शासक शासक के ख़िलाफ़।

47 इसलिए, देखो, वे दिन आ रहे हैं जब मैं बेबीलोन की खुदी हुई मूर्तियों को सज़ा दूँगा; उसके सभी मारे गए लोग उसके बीच में गिरेंगे।

1 Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon a destroying wind, and against those who dwell in the hearts of those who rise up against me.

2 And I will send winnowers against Babylon, who shall winnow her, and empty her land: for they shall come against her all around in the day of calamity.

3 Let the archer bend his bow against him who bends his bow, and against him who boasts of his armor; and do not spare her young men: destroy all her army.

4 And they shall fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and slain in the streets.

5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the Lord of hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.

6 Flee from the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul; Do not destroy yourselves in her wickedness, for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; he will repay her.

7 Babylon was a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, which made all the earth drunk; the nations drank of her wine; therefore the nations went mad.

8 In a moment Babylon has fallen and been destroyed; wail over her, take balm for her pain, perhaps she will be healed.

9 We wanted to heal Babylon, but she was not healed; leave her, and let each one go to his own land; for her judgment has reached to heaven, and has risen to the highest clouds.

10 The Lord has brought our righteousness to light; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.

11 Sharpen the arrows, prepare the shields perfectly; the Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of Media, for his purpose against Babylon is to destroy her. For this is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.

12 Set up a banner on the walls of Babylon, reinforce the guard, post sentinels, prepare the ambushes; for the Lord intended and did what he said concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 O you who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures! Your end has come, the measure of your greed.

14 The Lord of Hosts has sworn by himself, saying: Surely I will fill you with men, as with aphids, and they shall sing with joy over you.

15 He made the earth by his power, and ordered the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.

16 When he utters his voice, there is a great roar of waters in the heavens, and the vapors ascend from the end of the earth; he makes lightning with the rain, and brings forth the wind from his treasuries.

17 Every man is brutish, and has no knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his molten images are falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 They are worthless, a work of deceit; in the time when I visit them they shall perish.

19 Jacob’s portion is not like these, for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.

20 You are my hammer and my weapons of war; with you I will shatter nations, with you I will destroy kings;

21 With you I will shatter horse and rider, with you I will shatter chariot and its rider;

22 With you I will shatter man and woman, with you I will shatter old and young; 22 And with you I will shatter the young man and the virgin;

23 And with you I will shatter the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will shatter the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will shatter the captains and the magistrates.

24 And I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea for all their wickedness, which they have done in Zion in your sight, says the Lord.

25 Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says the Lord, you who destroy the whole earth; and I will stretch out my hand against you and roll you down from the rocks, and make you a mountain of fire.

26 And they shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for a foundation, for you shall become a perpetual desolation, says the Lord.

27 Raise a banner in the land, sound the trumpet among the nations, and consecrate the nations against her, summon against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a captain against her, and send up horses like a stingless aphid.

28 Consecrate against her the nations, the kings of Media, its captains, and all its officials, and all the land of its dominion.

29 Then the earth will tremble and mourn, for every one of the Lord’s plans stands firm against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitants.

30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed; they have become like women; they have set fire to their dwellings, their bars have been broken.

31 One messenger will run to meet another messenger, and one messenger to meet another messenger, to announce to the king of Babylon that his city has been taken on all sides.

32 The fords are occupied, and the reeds are burning with fire; and the men of war are dismayed.

33 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time of threshing; yet a little while, and the time of harvest will come for her.

34 Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, has devoured me, trampled me underfoot, made me an empty vessel; like a dragon he has swallowed me up, filled his belly with my delicacies; he has cast me out.

35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, says the inhabitant of Zion; and my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, says Jerusalem.

36 Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will plead your cause, and avenge you of the vengeance that is taken against you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her spring dry.

37 And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place of dragons, a horror and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

38 Together they shall roar like young lions; they shall growl like cubs of lions.

39 While they are excited, I will give them their drink, and I will make them drunk, so that they will leap about; but they will sleep a perpetual sleep, and will not wake up, says the Lord.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with the goats.

41 How Sheshach has been taken, and the glory of the whole earth has been taken by surprise! How Babylon has become an astonishment among the nations!

42 The sea has risen over Babylon, and its waves are covered with its multitude.

43 Her cities have become a desolation, a dry and deserted land, a land where no one lives, nor does any son of man pass through it.

44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will take away from his mouth what he has swallowed, and the nations will never again flock to him; also the wall of Babylon has fallen.

45 “Come out of her, my people, and save yourselves, every one of you, because of the fierce anger of the Lord.

46 Do not let your hearts be afraid, nor be afraid of the rumor that will be heard in the land; for in one year there will be a rumor, and in another year another rumor; and there will be violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

47 Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the carved images of Babylon; all her slain will fall in the midst of her.

48 Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, will rejoice over Babylon; for from the north will come destroyers against her,” says the Lord.

49 As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so in Babylon shall the slain of all the earth fall.

50 You who have escaped the sword, go, do not stop; 50 From afar remember the Lord, and let Jerusalem come up to your hearts.

51 You will say: We are ashamed, because we have heard reproach; shame has covered our faces, because strangers have come upon the sanctuaries of the house of the Lord.

52 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will punish her carved images; and the wounded one will groan throughout all her land.

53 Though Babylon should ascend to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her stronghold, from me shall destroyers come upon her, says the Lord.

54 The sound of a cry is heard from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans;

55 For the Lord destroys Babylon, and will cause her great voice to perish within her; and her waves will roar like many waters; the noise of her voice will be heard.

56 For the destroyer is coming upon her, upon Babylon, and her mighty men shall be taken captive, their bows broken: for the Lord, the God of recompense, will surely repay her.

57 And I will make her princes, and her wise men, and her captains, and her magistrates, and her mighty men drunk; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

58 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken down, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor in vain, and the nations shall be for the fire, and shall be weary.

59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign; And Seraiah was a peaceful prince.

60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that was to come upon Babylon: all these words that were written against Babylon.

61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you arrive in Babylon, you will see and read all these words.

62 And you will say, ‘Lord! You spoke concerning this place, that you would uproot it, so that no one would remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it would become a perpetual desolation.’

63 And it shall be that when you have finished reading this book, you shall bind it to a stone and throw it into the middle of the Euphrates.

64 And you shall say, ‘Thus Babylon shall be sunk, and shall not rise again, because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary.’ Thus far the words of Jeremiah.”

1 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que levantarei um vento destruidor contra Babilônia, e contra os que habitam no coração dos que se levantam contra mim.

2 E enviarei padejadores contra Babilônia, que a padejarão, e despejarão a sua terra: porque virão contra ela em redor no dia da calamidade.

3 O flecheiro arme o seu arco contra o que arma o seu arco, e contra o que presume da sua couraça; e não perdoeis a seus mancebos: destruí a todo o seu exército.

4 E mortos cairão na terra dos caldeus, e atravessados pelas ruas.

5 Porque Israel e Judá não foram abandonados do seu Deus, do Senhor dos Exércitos, ainda que a sua terra esteja cheia de culpas perante o Santo de Israel.

6 Fugi do meio de Babilônia, e livre cada um a sua alma; não vos destruais a vós na sua maldade: porque este é o tempo da vingança do Senhor; ele lhe dará a sua recompensa.

7 Babilônia era um copo de ouro na mão do Senhor, o qual embriagava a toda a terra; do seu vinho beberam as nações; por isso as nações enlouqueceram.

11 Alimpai as flechas, preparai perfeitamente os escudos: o Senhor despertou o espírito dos reis da Média; porque o seu intento contra Babilônia é para a destruir; pois esta é a vingança do Senhor, a vingança do seu templo.

12 Arvorai um estandarte sobre os muros de Babilônia, reforçai a guarda, colocai sentinelas, preparai as ciladas; porque o Senhor intentou e fez o que tinha dito acerca dos moradores de Babilônia.

18 Vaidade são, obra de enganos: no tempo em que eu as visitar perecerão.

19 Não é semelhante a estes a porção de Jacó; porque ele é o criador de todas as coisas; e Israel é a tribo da sua herança: o Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome.

20 Tu és meu martelo e minhas armas de guerra, e contigo despedaçarei nações, e contigo destruirei os reis;

21 E contigo despedaçarei o cavalo e o cavaleiro; e contigo despedaçarei o carro e o que vai nele;

22 E contigo despedaçarei o homem e a mulher, e contigo despedaçarei o velho e o moço; e contigo despedaçarei o mancebo e a virgem;

23 E contigo despedaçarei o pastor e o seu rebanho; e contigo despedaçarei o lavrador e a sua junta de bois: e contigo despedaçarei os capitães e os magistrados.

24 E pagarei a Babilônia, e a todos os moradores da Caldéia, toda a sua maldade, que fizeram em Sião, à vossa vista, diz o Senhor.

25 Eis-me aqui contra ti, ó monte destruidor, diz o Senhor, que destróis toda a terra; e estenderei a minha mão contra ti e te revolverei das rochas, e farei de ti um monte de incêndio.

26 E não tomarão de ti pedra para esquina, nem pedra para fundamentos, porque te tornarás numa assolação perpétua, diz o Senhor.

27 Arvorai um estandarte na terra, tocai a buzina entre as nações, e santificai as nações contra ela, convocai contra ela os reinos de Arará, Mini e Asquenaz: ordenai contra ela um capitão, fazei subir cavalos, como pulgão agitado.

28 Santificai contra ela as nações, os reis da Média, os seus capitães, e todos os seus magistrados, e toda a terra do seu domínio.

29 Então tremerá a terra, e doer-se-á porque cada um dos desígnios do Senhor está firme contra Babilônia, para fazer da terra de Babilônia uma assolação, sem habitantes.

30 Os valentes de Babilônia cessaram de pelejar, ficaram nas fortalezas, desfaleceu a sua força, tornaram-se como mulheres: incendiaram as suas moradas, quebrados foram os seus ferrolhos.

31 Um correio correrá ao encontro de outro correio, e um mensageiro ao encontro de outro mensageiro, para anunciar ao rei de Babilônia que a sua cidade foi tomada de todos os lados.

32 E os vaus estão ocupados, e os canaviais queimando a fogo; e os homens de guerra ficaram assombrados.

33 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: A filha de Babilônia é como uma eira no tempo da debulha: ainda um pouco, e o tempo da sega lhe virá.

34 Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, me devorou, pisou-me, fez de mim um vaso vazio, como dragão me tragou, encheu o seu ventre das minhas delicadezas; lançou-me fora.

35 A violência que se me fez a mim e à minha carne venha sobre Babilônia, diga a moradora de Sião; e o meu sangue caia sobre os moradores da Caldéia, diga Jerusalém.

36 Pelo que assim diz o Senhor: Eis que pleitearei a tua causa, e te vingarei da vingança que se tomou contra ti; e secarei o seu mar, e farei que se esgote o seu manancial.

37 E Babilônia se tornará em montões, morada de dragões, espanto e assobio, sem um só habitante.

38 Juntamente rugirão como filhos dos leões: bramarão como cachorros de leões.

39 Estando eles excitados, lhes darei a sua bebida, e os embriagarei, para que andem saltando; mas dormirão um perpétuo sono, e não acordarão, diz o Senhor.

40 Fá-los-ei descer como cordeiros ao matadouro, como carneiros com os bodes.

41 Como foi tomada Sesaque, e apanhada de surpresa a glória de toda a terra! Como se tornou Babilônia um espanto entre as nações!

42 O mar subiu sobre Babilônia, com a multidão das suas ondas se cobriu.

43 Tornaram-se as suas cidades em assolação, terra seca e deserta, terra em que ninguém habita, nem passa por ela filho de homem.

44 E visitarei a Bel em Babilônia, e tirarei da sua boca o que ele tragou, e nunca mais concorrerão a ele as nações: também o muro de Babilônia caiu.

45 Sai do meio dela, ó povo meu, e livre cada um a sua alma, por causa do ardor da ira do Senhor.

46 E não se enterneça o vosso coração, nem temais pelo rumor que se ouvir na terra; porque virá num ano um rumor, e depois noutro ano outro rumor; e haverá violência na terra, dominador contra dominador.

47 Portanto, eis que vêm dias, em que visitarei as imagens de escultura de Babilônia: e todos os seus traspassados cairão no meio dela.

53 Ainda que Babilônia subisse aos céus, e ainda que fortificasse a altura da sua fortaleza, de mim viriam destruidores sobre ela, diz o Senhor.

54 O som de um clamor se ouve de Babilônia, e de grande destruição da terra dos caldeus;

55 Porque o Senhor destrói Babilônia, e fará perecer nela a sua grande voz; e as suas ondas bramirão como muitas águas: ouvir-se-á o arruído da sua voz.

56 Porque o destruidor vem sobre ela, sobre Babilônia, e os seus valentes serão presos, já estão quebrados os seus arcos: porque o Senhor, Deus das recompensas, certamente lhe retribuirá.

61 E disse Jeremias a Seraías: Em tu chegando Babilônia, verás e lerás todas estas palavras.

62 E dirás: Senhor! Tu falaste a respeito deste lugar, que o havias de desarraigar, até não ficar nele morador algum, desde o homem até ao animal, mas que se tornaria em perpétuas assolações.

63 E serás que, acabando tu de ler este livro, o atarás a uma pedra e o lançarás no meio do Eufrates.

Prophecy against Babylon

1 The word that the Lord spoke against Babylon, against the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet.

2 Declare among the nations, and proclaim, and set up a standard; proclaim, do not conceal; say: Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is trampled down, her idols are confounded, her gods are fallen.

3 For a nation has come up against him from the north, which will make his land a desolation, and no one will dwell in it; both man and beast have fled and gone away.

4 In those days and at that time, declares the Lord, the children of Israel will come, they and the children of Judah together; they will come weeping as they go, and they will seek the Lord their God.

5 By the way to Zion they shall ask, and thither they shall turn their faces: they shall come, and join themselves unto the Lord in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.

6 My people were lost sheep; their shepherds led them astray, they caused them to wander on the mountains; they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting place.

7 All that found them devoured them; and their adversaries said, We are not guilty: for they have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of righteousness; even the Lord, the hope of their fathers.

8 Flee from the midst of Babylon, and go out from the land of the Chaldeans; and be as rams before the flock.

9 For, lo, I will raise up and cause to come against Babylon a congregation of great nations from the land of the north; and they shall prepare themselves against her; from thence shall she be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty man; none shall return in vain.

10 And Chaldea will become prey; all who plunder her will be satisfied, says the Lord.

11 For you rejoiced and leaped for joy, you plunderers of my inheritance; you swelled like a fat heifer and neighed like mighty horses.

12 Your mother will be greatly confounded, she who bore you will be ashamed; behold, she will be the last of the nations, a desert, a dry land, and a desolation.

13 Because of the Lord’s wrath, she will not be inhabited, but will become a complete desolation; everyone who passes by Babylon will be astonished and will hiss at all her plagues.

14 Prepare yourselves to surround Babylon, all you who draw the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.

15 Shout against her all around; she has already submitted; Her foundations have fallen, her walls are broken down; for this is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done.

16 Remove from Babylon the sower, and him who wields the sickle at harvest time; because of the sword of torment, each one will turn to his own people, and each one will flee to his own land.

17 Israel is a scattered lamb; the lions have driven him away; the first to devour him was the king of Assyria; and lastly, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, broke his bones.

18 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I punished the king of Assyria.

19 And I will bring Israel back to its dwelling place, and it shall graze on Carmel and Bashan; And their soul will be satisfied on Mount Ephraim and in Gilead.

20 In those days and at that time, declares the Lord, the iniquity of Israel will be sought, but it will not be found; and the sins of Judah, but they will not be found; for I will forgive those whom I leave remnant.

21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, go up against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod; utterly destroy everything behind them, declares the Lord, and do according to all that I have commanded you.

22 There is a sound of battle in the land, and of great destruction.

23 How the hammer of the whole earth has been cut down and broken! How Babylon has become an astonishment among the nations!

24 I have laid snares for you, and you have also been taken, O Babylon, and you did not know it; you were found and also captured; because you have contended with the Lord.

25 The Lord has opened his treasury and brought out the instruments of his wrath; for the Lord, the Lord of hosts, has a work to do in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from the ends of the earth, open her granaries, thresh her like a sledge, and utterly destroy her; leave nothing of her.

27 Kill all her bulls with the sword; let them go down to the slaughter! Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.

28 This is the voice of those who have fled and escaped from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of his temple.

29 Summon against Babylon the archers, all who draw the bow; encamp against her all around, let no one escape from her; repay her according to her deeds, according to all that she has done, do to her; for she has acted arrogantly against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.

30 Therefore, their young men will fall in their streets; all their fighting men will be uprooted on that day, declares the Lord.

31 Behold, I am against you, O proud one, declares the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will visit you.

32 Then the proud will stumble and fall, with no one to lift them up; I will set fire to their cities, which will consume all their surroundings.

33 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “The Israelites and the people of Judah have been oppressed together; all who took them captive have held them captive and will not let them go.

34 But their Redeemer is strong—the Lord Almighty is his name. He will surely plead their cause and give rest to the land and disturb the inhabitants of Babylon.

35 “The sword will come against the Chaldeans,” declares the Lord, “and against the inhabitants of Babylon, against its princes and its wise men.

36 The sword will come against the liars, and the sword will make fools of them; the sword will come against their mighty men, and they will faint.”

37 The sword will come upon their horses and upon their chariots, and upon all the mixed people who are in the midst of it; and they will be like women; the sword will come upon your treasures, and they will be plundered.

38 Drought will fall upon its waters, and they will dry up; for it is a land of carved images, and they are enraged by their idols.

39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert will dwell there, with the wild animals of the islands; the ostriches will also dwell there; and it will never again be inhabited, nor will it be lived in from generation to generation.

40 As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, says the Lord; so no one will dwell there, nor will any son of man live in it.

41 Behold, a people comes from the north, and a great nation, and mighty kings will arise from the uttermost parts of the earth.

42 They will take up the ark and the spear; they are cruel, and they know no compassion; Their voice will roar like the sea, and they will ride on horses, like a man prepared for battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon.

43 The king of Babylon heard of their fame, and his hands went limp; anguish seized him, pains like those of a woman in labor.

44 Behold, one like a lion will come up from the flood of the Jordan against the stronghold, but in a moment I will make him flee from there; and I will set the chosen one against it: For who is like me? And who would summon me? And who is the shepherd who could stand before me?

45 Therefore hear the counsel that the Lord has decreed against Babylon, and his plans that he has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will drag them away; surely their dwelling place will be laid waste.

46 At the sound of the taking of Babylon the earth trembled; and the cry was heard among the nations.

2 Anunciai entre as nações, e fazei ouvir, e arvorai um estandarte; fazei ouvir, não encubrais; dizei: Tomada é Babilônia, confundido está Bel, atropelado está Merodaque, confundidos estão os seus ídolos, e caídos estão os seus deuses.

3 Porque subiu contra ele uma nação do norte, que fará da sua terra uma solidão, e não haverá quem habite nela: desde os homens até aos animais fugiram, e se foram.

4 Naqueles dias, e naquele tempo, diz o Senhor, os filhos de Israel virão, eles e os filhos de Judá juntamente; andando e chorando virão, e buscarão ao Senhor seu Deus.

5 Pelo caminho de Sião perguntarão, para ali dirigirão os seus rostos: virão, e se ajuntarão ao Senhor num concerto eterno que nunca será esquecido.

9 Porque eis que eu suscitarei e farei subir contra Babilônia uma congregação de grandes nações da terra do norte, e se prepararão contra ela; dali será tomada: as suas flechas serão como de valente herói; nenhuma tornará sem efeito.

10 E a Caldéia servirá de presa: todos os que a saquearem ficarão fartos, diz o Senhor;

11 Porquanto vos alegrastes, saltastes de prazer, ó saqueadores da minha herança, e vos inchastes como bezerra gorda, e rinchastes como cavalos vigorosos.

12 Será mui confundida vossa mãe, ficará envergonhada a que vos deu à luz: eis que ela será a última das nações, um deserto, uma terra seca e uma solidão.

13 Por causa do furor do Senhor não será habitada, antes se tornará em total assolação: qualquer que passar por Babilônia se espantará, e assobiará vendo todas as suas pragas.

14 Preparai-vos para cercar Babilônia, todos os que armais arcos: atirai-lhe, não poupeis as flechas, porque pecou contra o Senhor.

15 Gritai contra ela rodeando-a; ela já se submeteu; caíram seus fundamentos, estão derrubados os seus muros; porque esta é a vingança do Senhor: vingai-vos dela; como ela fez, fazei-lhe a ela.

16 Arrancai de Babilônia o que semeia, e o que leva a foice no tempo da sega: por causa da espada aflitiva virar-se-á cada um para o seu povo, e fugirá cada um para a sua terra.

17 Cordeiro desgarrado é Israel: os leões o afugentaram: o primeiro a devorá-lo foi o rei da Assíria; e por último, Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, lhe quebrou os ossos.

18 Portanto assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que visitarei o rei de Babilônia, e a sua terra, como visitei o rei da Assíria.

19 E farei tornar Israel para a sua morada, e pastará no Carmelo e em Basã; e fartar-se-á a sua alma no monte de Efraim e em Gileade.

20 Naqueles dias, e naquele tempo, diz o Senhor, buscar-se-á maldade de Israel, e não será achada; e os pecados de Judá, mas não se acharão; porque perdoarei aos que eu deixar de resto.

21 Sobe contra a terra de Merataim, sobe contra ela, e contra os moradores de Pécode; assola e inteiramente destrói tudo após eles, diz o Senhor, e faze conforme tudo o que te mandei.

22 Estrondo de batalha há na terra, e de grande destruição.

23 Como foi cortado e quebrado o martelo de toda a terra! Como se tornou Babilônia em espanto entre as nações!

24 Laços te armei, e também foste presa, ó Babilônia, e tu não o soubeste: fosse achada, e também apanhada; porque contra o Senhor te entremeteste.

25 O Senhor abriu o seu tesouro, e tirou os instrumentos da sua indignação; porque o Senhor, o Senhor dos Exércitos, tem uma obra a realizar na terra dos caldeus.

26 Vinde contra ela dos confins da terra, abri os seus celeiros, trilhai-a como a paveias, e destruí-a de todo: nada lhe fique de resto.

27 Matai à espada a todos os seus novilhos, desçam ao degoladouro: ai deles! Porque veio o seu dia, o tempo da sua visitação.

28 Tal é a voz dos que fugiram e escaparam da terra de Babilônia para anunciarem em Sião a vingança do Senhor nosso Deus, a vingança do seu templo.

29 Convocai contra Babilônia os flecheiros, todos os que armam arcos: acampai-vos contra ela em redor, ninguém escape dela; pagai-lhe conforme a sua obra, conforme tudo o que fez, fazei-lhe; porque se houve arrogantemente contra o Senhor, contra o Santo de Israel.

30 Portanto, cairão os seus mancebos nas suas ruas; e todos os seus homens de guerra serão desarraigados naquele dia, diz o Senhor.

31 Eis que eu sou contra ti, ó soberbo, diz o Senhor Deus dos Exércitos, porque veio o teu dia, o tempo em que te hei de visitar.

32 Então tropeçará o soberbo, e cairá, e ninguém haverá que o levante; e porei fogo às suas cidades, o qual consumirá todos os seus contornos.

33 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Os filhos de Israel e os filhos de Judá foram oprimidos juntamente, e todos os que os levaram cativos os retiveram não os quiseram soltar.

34 Mas o seu Redentor é forte, o Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome; certamente pleiteará a causa deles, para dar descanso à terra, e inquietar os moradores de Babilônia.

35 A espada virá sobre os caldeus, diz o Senhor, e sobre os moradores de Babilônia, e sobre os seus príncipes, e sobre os seus sábios.

36 A espada, virá sobre os mentirosos, e ficarão insensatos a espada: a espada virá sobre os seus valentes, e desmaiarão.

39 Por isso habitarão nela as feras do deserto, com os animais bravos das ilhas: também habitarão nela os avestruzes; e nunca mais será povoada, nem será habitada de geração em geração.

40 Como quando Deus transtornou a Sodoma e a Gomorra, e aos seus vizinhos, diz o Senhor; assim ninguém habitará ali, nem morará nela filho de homem.

41 Eis que um povo vem do norte, e uma grande nação, e reis poderosos se levantarão dos lados mais remotos da terra.

42 Arca e lança tomarão, eles são cruéis, e não conhecem a compaixão; a sua voz bramará como o mar e sobre cavalos cavalgarão, como um homem, apercebido para a batalha, contra ti, ó filha de Babilônia.

35 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.

36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four corners of heaven, and I will scatter them toward all these winds; and there shall be no nation where the fugitives of Elam shall not come.

37 And I will cause Elam to fear before their enemies, and before those who seek their life; and I will bring evil upon them, the fury of my anger, says the Lord, and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.

38 And I will set my throne in Elam; and I will destroy from there king and princes, says the Lord.

39 But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam, declares the Lord.

29 They shall take their tents, and their livestock, their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels they shall carry away; and they shall cry to them: There is terror on every side!

30 Flee, turn far away, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Azor, says the Lord: for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has devised a plan against you.

31 Arise, go up against a nation at rest, which dwells securely, says the Lord; which has neither gates nor bars; they dwell alone.

32 And their camels will be for prey, and the multitude of their cattle for spoil; and I will scatter to every wind those who have cut off the corners of their hair, and I will bring their ruin to them from every side, says the Lord.
