1 यहोवा का वचन मेरे पास आया:

7 और मैं तुम्हें उपजाऊ भूमि में ले आया कि तुम उसके फल और उसकी उपज खाओ; लेकिन जब तुम उसमें प्रवेश किए, तो तुमने मेरी भूमि को अपवित्र कर दिया और मेरी विरासत को घृणित बना दिया।

8 याजकों ने यह नहीं पूछा, “यहोवा कहां है?” और व्यवस्था के माननेवाले मुझे नहीं जानते; चरवाहों ने मेरे विरुद्ध अपराध किया; भविष्यद्वक्ताओं ने बाल के नाम पर भविष्यद्वाणी की और व्यर्थ की बातों के पीछे चले।

9 इस कारण मैं फिर तुम्हारे साथ वाद-विवाद करूँगा, यहोवा की यह वाणी है; और तुम्हारे नाती-पोतों से भी वाद-विवाद करूँगा।

10 कित्तियों के द्वीपों में जाकर देखो; और केदार में दूत भेजकर भली-भाँति विचार करो, और देखो कि ऐसा कुछ हुआ है कि नहीं।

11 क्या किसी जाति ने कभी अपने देवताओं को, यद्यपि वे देवता नहीं हैं, बदल दिया है? फिर भी मेरी प्रजा ने अपनी महिमा को निकम्मी मूरतों से बदल दिया है।

12 हे आकाश, इस पर विस्मित हो, और भय से काँप उठ, यहोवा की यह वाणी है।

13 मेरी प्रजा ने दो पाप किए हैं: उन्होंने मुझे, जो जीवन के जल का स्रोत है, त्याग दिया है, और अपने लिए कुण्ड खोद लिए हैं, टूटे हुए कुण्ड जो जल नहीं रोक सकते।

19 तुम्हारी दुष्टता तुम्हें दण्ड देगी, और तुम्हारे भटकने से तुम्हें फटकार लगेगी। इसलिए जान लो और देखो कि अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को त्यागना और मेरा भय अपने मन में न रखना तुम्हारे लिए बुरी और कड़वी बात है, सेनाओं के परमेश्वर यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

22 इसलिए, चाहे तू अपने आप को सज्जी से धोए और खूब साबुन का प्रयोग करे, तौभी तेरे अधर्म का दाग मेरे साम्हने बना रहेगा, परमेश्वर यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

1 The word of the Lord came to me:

2 “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: I remember the devotion of your youth and the love of your betrothal, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.

3 Then Israel was holy to the Lord, the firstfruits of his harvest; all who devoured them were held guilty; disaster came upon them,’ declares the Lord.

4 “Hear the word of the Lord, you descendants of Jacob, all you families of the house of Israel:

5 This is what the Lord says: ‘What injustice did your ancestors find in me, that they went far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless.

6 They did not say, “Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of Egypt?”’” Who led us through the desert, through a land of wastelands and pits, through a land of drought and the shadow of death, through a land where no one traveled, and in which no man dwelt.

7 And I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and its produce; but when you entered it, you defiled my land and made my inheritance an abomination.

8 The priests did not say, “Where is the Lord?” And those who handled the law did not know me; the shepherds transgressed against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went after that which is of no profit.

9 Therefore I will yet contend with you, declares the Lord; and even with your children’s children I will contend.

10 For pass over to the islands of Kittim and see; and send to Kedar and consider carefully, and see if anything like this has happened.

11 Has any nation ever exchanged its gods, even though they are not gods? Yet my people have exchanged their glory for worthless idols.

12 Be appalled at this, you heavens, and shudder with horror, declares the Lord.

13 My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

14 Is Israel a servant, a slave born in the house? Why then has it become a prey?

15 Young lions roared at it; they raised their voices. They made its land a desolation; its cities were burned with fire, and no one lives in them.

16 Even the people of Noph and Ticpenes broke the crown of your head.

17 Are you not seeking this for yourself, by forsaking the Lord your God when he leads you on the way? 

18 Now then, what does it matter to you to go to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? And what does it matter to you to go to Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

19 Your wickedness will punish you, and your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing for you to forsake the Lord your God, and not to have the fear of me with you, says the Lord God of hosts.

20 When I had long ago broken your yoke and torn off your bonds, you said, “I will never transgress again”; yet on every high hill and under every green tree you have been crouching and prostrating yourself.

21 I myself planted you as a choice vine, a seed entirely faithful; how then have you turned into a degenerate plant, a strange vine?

22 Therefore, though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me, declares the Sovereign Lord.

23 How can you say, “I am not defiled; I have not followed the Baals”? Consider your way in the valley; acknowledge what you have done. You are a swift camel, twisting your paths.

24 You are a wild donkey, accustomed to the desert, sniffing the wind in the desire of your soul. Who can resist you? Those who seek you will not grow weary; in your month they will find you.

25 Keep your feet from going barefoot and your throat from being thirsty. But you say, “There is no hope,” for I love strangers, and after them I will go.

26 As a thief is put to shame when he is caught, so the house of Israel is put to shame. They, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets,

27 Who say to wood, “You are my father,” and to stone, “You gave birth to me”; for they have turned their backs on me, and not their faces, but in the time of their trouble they will say, “Arise, and deliver us.”

28 Where then are your gods, which you made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can deliver you in the time of your trouble; for your gods, O Judah, are as numerous as your cities.

29 Why do you contend with me? You have all transgressed against me, says the Lord.

30 In vain I have punished your children; they have not accepted correction; your sword has devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.

31 O generation! Consider the word of the Lord: Have I been a desert to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why then does my people say, “We have forsaken ourselves from you; we will never see you again”?

32 Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me for countless days.

33 How you adorn your path to seek love! So that you have even taught the wicked your ways.

34 Even on the edges of your garments is found the blood of the innocent and needy: I ​​did not dig to find it, for it is evident in all these things.

35 Yet you say, “I am innocent; surely his anger has turned away from me.” Behold, I will enter into judgment with you, because you say, “I have not sinned.”

36 Why do you turn aside so much, changing your way? You will also be ashamed of Egypt, as you were ashamed of Assyria.

3 Então Israel era santidade para o Senhor, e as primícias da sua novidade: todos os que o devoravam eram tidos por culpados; o mal vinha sobre eles, diz o Senhor:

4 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, ó casa de Jacó, e todas as famílias da casa de Israel:

19 A tua malícia te castigará, e as tuas apostasias te repreenderão: sabe pois e vê, que mau e quão amargo é deixares ao Senhor teu Deus, e não teres o meu temor contigo, diz o Senhor Jeová dos Exércitos.

20 Quando eu já há muito quebrava o teu jugo, e rompia as tuas ataduras, dizias tu: Nunca mais transgredirei; contudo em todo o outeiro alto e de baixo de toda a árvore verde te andas encurvado e corrompendo.

21 Eu mesmo te plantei como vide excelente, uma semente inteiramente fiel: como pois te tornaste para mim uma planta degenerada, de vide estranha?

22 Pelo que, ainda que te laves com salitre, e amontoes sabão, a tua iniqüidade estará gravada diante de mim, diz o Senhor Jeová.

23 Como dizes logo: Não estou contaminado nem andei após os baalins? Vê o teu caminho no vale, conhece o que fizeste: dromedária ligeira és, que anda torcendo os seus caminhos.

29 Por que disputais comigo? Todos vós transgredistes contra mim, diz o Senhor.

30 Em vão castiguei os vossos filhos; eles não aceitaram a correção; a vossa espada devorou os vossos profetas como um leão destruidor.

31 Ó geração! Considerai vós a palavra do Senhor: Porventura tenho eu sido para Israel um deserto? Ou uma terra da mais espessa escuridão? Por que pois diz o meu povo: Desligamo-nos de ti; nunca mais a ti veremos?

32 Porventura esquece-se a virgem dos seus enfeites, ou a esposa dos seus cendais? Todavia o meu povo se esqueceu de mim por inumeráveis dias.

33 Como ornamentas o teu caminho, para buscares o amor! De sorte que até às malignas ensinaste os teus caminhos.

34 Até nas orlas dos teus vestidos se achou o sangue das almas dos inocentes e necessitados: não cavei para o achar, pois se vê em todas estas coisas.

35 E ainda dizes: Eu estou inocente; certamente a sua ira se desviou de mim. Eis que entrarei em juízo contigo, porquanto dizes: Não pequei.

36 Por que te desvias tanto, mudando o teu caminho? Também do Egito serás envergonhada, como foste envergonhada da Assíria.

37 Também daquele sairás com as mãos sobre a tua cabeça; porque o Senhor rejeitou as tuas confianças, e não prosperarás com elas.

1 बिन्यामीन देश के अनातोत में रहने वाले याजकों में से एक, हिल्किय्याह के पुत्र यिर्मयाह के वचन:

2 यहोवा का वचन आमोन के पुत्र यहूदा के राजा योशिय्याह के दिनों में, उसके राज्य के तेरहवें वर्ष में, उसके पास पहुँचा।

3 यह वचन यहूदा के राजा योशिय्याह के पुत्र यहोयाकीम के दिनों में भी उसके पास पहुँचा, और योशिय्याह के पुत्र यहूदा के राजा सिदकिय्याह के राज्य के ग्यारहवें वर्ष के अंत तक, अर्थात् पाँचवें महीने में यरूशलेम के बंदी बना लिए जाने तक, उसके पास पहुँचा।

4 तब यहोवा का वचन मेरे पास पहुँचा:

1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

2 The word of the Lord came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

3 It also came to him in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, until Jerusalem was taken captive in the fifth month.

4 Then the word of the Lord came to me:

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

6 “Ah, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You shall go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.

8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

9 Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now I have put my words in your mouth.

10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

11 The word of the Lord came to me again: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see a branch of an almond tree,” I replied.

12 The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

13 The word of the Lord came to me a second time: “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, and its face is toward the north.”

14 Then the Lord said to me, “Out of the north disaster will break out on all the inhabitants of the land.”

15 “See, I am summoning all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the Lord, “and they will come and each one will set up his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah.

16 I will pronounce my judgments against them because of all their wickedness; for they have forsaken me and burned incense to other gods and worshiped the works of their own hands.

17 “Therefore, gird up your loins and arise and tell them all that I command you. Do not be afraid before them, for I will make you fearless in their presence.”

18 For behold, I have made you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

19 They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.

4 Assim veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

5 Antes que te formasse no ventre te conheci, e antes que saísses da madre te santifiquei; às nações te dei por profeta.

6 Então disse eu: Ah Senhor Jeová! Eis que não sei falar; porque sou uma criança.

7 Mas o Senhor me disse: Não digas: eu sou uma criança; porque aonde quer que eu te enviar, irás; e tudo quanto te mandar dirás.

8 Não temas diante deles; porque eu sou contigo para te livrar, diz o Senhor.

9 E estendeu o Senhor a sua mão, e tocou-me na boca; e disse-me o Senhor: Eis que ponho as minhas palavras na tua boca.

10 Olha, ponho-te neste dia sobre as nações, e sobre os reinos, para arrancares, e para derrubares, e para destruíres, e para arruinares; e também para edificares e para plantares.

11 Ainda veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: Que é que vês, Jeremias? E eu disse: Vejo uma vara de amendoeira.

12 E disse-me o Senhor: Viste bem; porque eu velo sobre a minha palavra para a cumprir.

13 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor segunda vez, dizendo: Que é que vês? E eu disse: Vejo uma panela a ferver, cuja face está para a banda do norte.

14 E disse-me o Senhor: Do norte se descobrirá o mal sobre todos os habitantes da terra.

15 Porque eis que eu convoco todas as famílias dos reinos do norte, diz o Senhor; e virão, e cada um porá o seu trono à entrada das portas de Jerusalém, e contra todos os seus muros em redor e contra todas as cidades de Judá.

16 E eu pronunciarei contra eles os meus juízos, por causa de toda a sua malícia; pois me deixaram a mim, e queimaram incenso a deuses estranhos, e se encurvaram diante das obras das suas mãos.

17 Tu pois cinge os teus lombos, e levanta-te, e dize-lhes tudo quanto eu te mandar; não desanimes diante deles, porque eu farei com que não temas na sua presença.

18 Porque, eis que te ponho hoje por cidade forte, e por coluna de ferro, e por muros de bronze, contra toda a terra; contra os reis de Judá, contra os seus príncipes, contra os seus sacerdotes, e contra o povo da terra.

19 E pelejarão contra ti, mas não prevalecerão contra ti; porque eu sou contigo, diz o Senhor, para te livrar.

4 मैं भी उनके भ्रम की अभिलाषा करूँगा, और उनके भय को उन पर लाऊँगा; क्योंकि जब मैंने पुकारा, तो किसी ने उत्तर नहीं दिया; जब मैंने बात की, तो किसी ने नहीं सुना; परन्तु उन्होंने वही किया जो मेरी दृष्टि में बुरा लगा, और वही चुना जिससे मैं प्रसन्न नहीं था।

12 क्योंकि यहोवा यों कहता है: “देखो, मैं उसके पास शान्ति नदी के समान, और जातियों का वैभव उमण्डती हुई नदी के समान बहा दूँगा; तब तुम दूध पिलाओगी, उसकी गोद में उठाए जाओगी, और उसके घुटनों पर झुलाए जाओगे।

13 जैसे कोई अपनी माँ को शान्ति देता है, वैसे ही मैं भी तुम्हें शान्ति दूँगा; और तुम यरूशलेम में शान्ति पाओगे।

14 तुम यह देखोगे, और तुम्हारा हृदय आनन्दित होगा, और तुम्हारी हड्डियाँ कोमल घास की नाईं हरी-भरी होंगी; तब यहोवा का हाथ उसके सेवकों पर प्रगट होगा, और वह अपने शत्रुओं पर क्रोधित होगा।”

15 क्योंकि देखो, यहोवा आग में और अपने रथों के साथ बवंडर के समान आएगा, कि अपने क्रोध को जलजलाहट के साथ और अपनी डाँट को आग की लपटों के साथ प्रगट करे।

1 Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? And what place will be my resting place?”

2 “For my hand made all these things, and all these things came into being,” declares the Lord. “But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.

3 He who kills an ox is like one who strikes a man; he who sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; he who presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood; he who burns incense is like one who blesses an idol. They also have chosen their own ways, and their souls delight in their abominations.

4 I also will desire their delusions, and I will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, no one answered; when I spoke, no one listened; But they did what seemed evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I had no pleasure.

5 Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word: your brothers who hate you and cast you out for my name’s sake, say, “Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy”; but they shall be put to shame.

6 A voice of great tumult will come from the city, a voice from the temple, the voice of the Lord, who repays his enemies.

7 Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before her pains came, she delivered a son.

8 Who has ever heard of such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in a single day? Can a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet Zion was in labor and gave birth to her children.

9 “Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?” says the Lord. “Shall I bring forth and shut the womb?” says your God.

10 Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her;

11 That you may nurse and be satisfied from her comforting breasts; that you may drink deeply and delight in the splendor of her glory.

12 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream; then you shall nurse, you shall be carried on her hip, and dandled on her knees.

13 As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

14 You shall see this, and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like tender grass; then the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants, and he shall be indignant against his enemies.”

15 For behold, the Lord will come in fire, and his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

16 For with fire and with his sword the Lord will plead with all flesh; and the slain of the Lord shall be many.

17 Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves in the gardens, one after another, those who eat swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, says the Lord.

18 For I know their works and their thoughts; the time is coming when I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see my glory.

19 And I will set a sign among them, and those who escape from them I will send to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, archers, to Tubal and Javan, to the distant islands, which have not heard of my fame, nor seen my glory; And they will proclaim my glory among the nations.

20 And they will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the Lord, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules, and on camels, to my holy mountain, Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their offerings in clean vessels to the house of the Lord.

21 And I will also take some of them to be priests and Levites, says the Lord.

22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, will remain before me, says the Lord, so will your descendants and your name remain.

23 From one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before me, says the Lord.

24 They will go out and look upon the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me; For their worm will never die, and their fire will never be quenched; they will be an abhorrent to all mankind.

1 Assim diz o Senhor: O céu é o meu trono, e a terra o escabelo dos meus pés: Que casa me edificaríeis vós? E que lugar seria o do meu descanso?

2 Porque a minha mão fez todas estas coisas, e todas estas coisas foram feitas, diz o Senhor; mas eis para quem olharei: para o pobre e abatido de espírito, e que treme da minha palavra.

3 O que mata um boi é como o que fere um homem; o que sacrifica em cordeiro, como o que degola um cão; o que oferece uma oblação, como o que oferece sangue de porco; o que queima incenso, como o que bendiz a um ídolo: também estes escolhem os seus próprios caminhos, e a sua alma toma prazer nas suas abominações.

4 Também eu quererei as suas ilusões, farei vir sobre eles os seus temores; porquanto clamei e ninguém respondeu, falei, e não escutaram; mas fizeram o que parece mal aos meus olhos, e escolheram aquilo em que não tinha prazer.

5 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, os que tremeis da sua palavra: vossos irmãos que vos aborrecem e que para longe vos lançam por amor do meu nome, dizem: O Senhor seja glorificado, para que vejamos a vossa alegria; mas eles serão confundidos.

6 Uma voz de grande rumor virá da cidade, uma voz do templo, a voz do Senhor, que dá o pago aos seus inimigos.

7 Antes que estivesse de parto, deu à luz; antes que lhe viessem as dores, deu à luz um filho.

8 Quem jamais ouviu tal coisa? Quem viu coisas semelhantes? Poder-se-ia fazer nascer uma terra num só dia? Nasceria uma nação de uma só vez? Mas Sião esteve de parto e já deu à luz seus filhos.

9 Abriria eu a madre, e não geraria: diz o Senhor: geraria eu, e fecharia a madre? Diz o teu Deus.

10 Regozijai-vos com Jerusalém, e alegrai-vos por ela, vós todos os que a amais: enchei-vos por ela de alegria, todos os que por ela pranteastes;

11 Para que mameis, e vos farteis dos peitos das suas consolações: para que sugueis, e vos deleiteis com o resplendor da sua glória.

12 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Eis que estenderei sobre ela a paz como um rio, e a glória das nações como um ribeiro que transborda; então mamareis, ao colo vos trarão, e sobre os joelhos vos afagarão.

13 Como alguém a quem consola sua mãe, assim eu vos consolarei; e em Jerusalém vós sereis consolados.

14 Isso vereis e alegrar-se-á o vosso coração, e os vossos ossos reverdecerão como a erva tenra: então a mão do Senhor será notória aos seus servos, e ele se indignará contra os seus inimigos.

15 Porque, eis que o Senhor virá em fogo; e os seus carros como um torvelinho; para tornar a sua ira em furor, e a sua repreensão em chamas de fogo.

16 Porque com fogo e com a sua espada entrará o Senhor em juízo com toda a carne; e os mortos do Senhor serão multiplicados.

17 Os que se santificam, e se purificam nos jardins uns após outros, os que comem carne de porco, e a abominação, e o rato, juntamente serão consumidos, diz o Senhor.

18 Porque conheço as suas obras e os seus pensamentos! O tempo vem em que ajuntarei todas as nações e línguas; e virão, e verão a minha glória.

19 E porei entre eles um sinal, e os que deles escaparem enviarei às nações, a Tarsis, Pul, e Lude, flecheiros, à Tubal e Javã, até às ilhas de mais longe, que não ouviram a minha fama, nem viram a minha glória; e anunciarão a minha glória entre as nações.

20 E trarão todos os vossos irmãos, dentre todas as nações, por presente ao Senhor, sobre cavalos, e em carros, e em liteiras, e sobre mulas, e sobre dromedários, ao meu santo monte, a Jerusalém, diz o Senhor: como quando os filhos de Israel trazem as suas ofertas em vasos limpos à casa do Senhor.

21 E também deles tomarei a alguns para sacerdotes e para levitas diz o Senhor.

22 Porque, como os céus novos, e a terra nova, que hei de fazer, estarão diante da minha face, diz o Senhor, assim há de estar a vossa posteridade e o vosso nome.

23 E será que desde uma lua nova até à outra, e desde um sábado até ao outro, virá toda até à outra, e desde um sábado até ao outro, virá toda a carne a adorar perante mim, diz o Senhor.

24 E sairão, e verão os corpos mortos dos homens que prevaricaram contra mim; porque o seu bicho nunca morrerá, nem o seu fogo se apagará; e serão um horror para toda a carne.

1 I was sought by those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me: To a people who were not called by my name I said, “Here I am.”

2 All day long I have stretched out my hands to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own thoughts;

3 A people who continually provoke me to anger to my face, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense on bricks;

4 Sitting by the graves, and spending the night in secret places: eating swine's flesh and broth of abominable things in their vessels.

5 And they say, “Keep away, and do not come near me, for I am holier than you.” These are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all day long.

6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silent; But I will repay them, yes, I will repay them into their bosom:

7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, says the Lord, who burned incense on the mountains and insulted me on the hills; therefore I will measure out their former deeds into their bosom.

8 Thus says the Lord: As when juice is found in a cluster of grapes, people say, “Do not waste it, for there is a blessing in it,” so I will do for the sake of my servants, so that I may not destroy them all.

9 I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah an heir who will possess my mountains; my chosen ones will inherit the land, and my servants will dwell there.

10 Sharon will become a fold for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds, for my people who have sought me.

11 But as for you who forsake the Lord, who forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for fortune and mix wine for Destiny—

12 I will destine you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter; because I called, and you did not answer; I spoke, and you did not listen; but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose that in which I had no pleasure.

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall go hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall go thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed.

14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry out in sorrow of spirit, and wail for your brokenness of spirit.

15 And you will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse; and the Lord God will kill you; and he will call his servants by another name.

16 So that he who blesses himself in the earth will be blessed in the God of truth, and he who swears in the earth will swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and are hidden from my eyes.

17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

18 But you shall rejoice and exult forever in what I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and exult in my people; and the voice of weeping shall no more be heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

20 There shall no more be in it an infant who lives but a few days, nor an old man who does not fulfill his days; For the young man will die at a hundred years old, but the sinner at a hundred years old will be accursed.

21 They will build houses and inhabit them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

22 They will not build so that others may inhabit; they will not plant so that others may eat; for the days of the tree, and my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands.

23 They will not labor in vain, nor bear children for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their descendants with them.

24 Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.

13 Pelo que assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Eis que os meus servos comerão, mas vós padecereis fome: eis que os meus servos beberão, mas vós tereis sede: eis que os meus servos se alegrarão, mas vós vos envergonhareis.

14 Eis que os meus servos cantarão por terem o seu coração alegre, mas vós gritareis com tristeza de ânimo, e uivareis pelo vosso quebrantamento de espírito.

15 E deixareis o vosso nome aos meus eleitos por maldição; e o Senhor Jeová vos matará; e a seus servos chamará por outro nome.

16 De sorte que aquele que se bendisser na terra será bendito no Deus da verdade, e aquele que jurar na terra, jurará pelo Deus da verdade; porque já estão esquecidas as angústias passadas, e estão encobertas diante dos meus olhos.

17 Porque, eis que eu crio céus novos e nova terra; e não haverá lembranças das coisas passadas, nem mais se recordarão.

18 Mas vós folgareis e exultareis perpetuamente no que eu crio; porque eis que crio para Jerusalém alegria, e para o seu povo gozo.

20 Não haverá mais nela criança de poucos dias, nem velho que não cumpra os seus dias; porque o mancebo morrerá de cem anos; mas o pecador de cem anos será amaldiçoado.

21 E edificarão casas, e as habitarão; plantarão vinhas e comerão o seu fruto.

22 Não edificarão para que outros habitem; não plantarão para que outros comam; porque os dias da árvore, e os meus eleitos gozarão das obras das suas mãos até à velhice.

23 Não trabalharão debalde, nem terão filhos para a perturbação; porque são a semente dos benditos do Senhor, e os seus descendentes com eles.

24 E será que antes que clamem, eu responderei: estando eles ainda falando, eu os ouvirei.

2 As when fire kindles wood and causes water to boil, to make your name known to your enemies, so that the nations would tremble at your presence!

3 When you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled at your presence.

4 For since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

5 You came to meet those who rejoiced and did righteousness, those who remembered you in your ways; behold, you were angry, because we sinned; in them is eternity, so that we may be saved.

6 But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; And we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, sweep us away.

7 And there is no one who calls on your name, who stirs himself up and takes hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and you have made us melt away because of our iniquities.

8 But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

9 Do not be so angry, O Lord, nor remember iniquity forever; behold, we pray you, we are all your people.

10 Your holy cities have become a desert: Zion has become a desert, Jerusalem is desolate.

11 Our holy and glorious house, where our fathers praised you, has been burned with fire; and all our pleasant things have become desolate.

1 Oh! Se fendesses os céus, e descesses! Se os montes se escoassem diante da tua face!

2 Como quando o fogo inflama a lenha, e faz ferver as águas, para fazeres notório o teu nome aos teus adversários, assim as nações tremessem na tua presença!

3 Quando fazias coisas terríveis, que não esperávamos, descias, e os montes se escoavam diante da tua face.

4 Porque desde a antiguidade não se ouviu, nem com ouvidos se percebeu, nem com os olhos se viu um Deus além de ti, que trabalhe para aquele que nele espera.

5 Saíste ao encontro daquele que se alegrava e praticava justiça, daqueles que se lembram de ti nos teus caminhos: eis que te iraste, porque pecamos; neles há eternidade, para que sejamos salvos.

6 Mas todos nós somos como o imundo, e todas as nossas justiças como trapo da imundícia; e todos nós caímos como a folha, e as nossas culpas como um vento nos arrebatam.

7 E já ninguém há que invoque o teu nome, que desperte, e te detenha; porque escondes de nós o teu rosto, e nos fazes derreter, por causa das nossas iniqüidades.

8 Mas agora, ó Senhor, tu és nosso Pai: nós o barro, e tu o nosso oleiro; e todos nós obra das tuas mãos.

7 I will mention the mercies of the Lord, and the many praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us; and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he showed them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his mercies.

8 For he said, “Surely they are my people, children who will not lie”; so he was their Savior.

9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he took them up and carried them all the days of old.

10 But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and he himself fought against them.

11 Yet he remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people, saying, “Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock?” Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among them?

12 He whose glorious arm he made to go at the right hand of Moses? Who divided the waters before them, to make an everlasting name?

13 He who led them through the depths like a horse in the desert, so that they never stumbled?

14 Like an animal that goes down into the valleys, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest: so you led your people, to make a glorious name.

15 Look down from heaven, and see from your holy and glorious dwelling place. Where are your zeal and your mighty works? The noise of your bowels and your mercies, restrain them toward me!

16 But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us: you, O Lord, are our Father; our Redeemer from of old is your name.

17 Why, O Lord, do you make us stray from your ways? Why do you harden our hearts so that we do not fear you? For the sake of your servants, restore the tribes of your inheritance.

18 For a short time only your holy people possessed it; our adversaries have trampled your sanctuary.

19 We have become like those over whom you never ruled, like those who were never called by your name.

3 मैं अकेला ही कुण्ड रौंदता हूँ, और देश-देश के लोगों में से कोई मेरे साथ नहीं था; मैं ने क्रोध में आकर उन्हें रौंदा और जलजलाहट में उन्हें रौंदा; उनके लोहू के छींटे मेरे वस्त्रों पर लग गए, और मेरे सारे वस्त्र दागदार हो गए।

4 क्योंकि मेरे मन में प्रतिशोध का दिन था, और मेरे छुड़ाए जाने का वर्ष आ गया है।

God saves and avenges his people

1 Who is this who comes from Edom, with garments dyed from Bozrah? This one, glorious in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? I, who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

2 Why is your apparel red? And your garments like those of one who treads the winepress?

3 I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with me; I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.

4 For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come.

5 I looked, but there was no one to help; I was appalled that there was no one to uphold me; so my own arm brought salvation, and my own wrath sustained me.

6 I trampled down the nations in my anger and made them drunk in my wrath; I crushed their strength to the ground.
