एलीहू ने अय्यूब पर परमेश्‍वर के बारे में गलत बातें कहने का आरोप लगाया

1 तब एलीहू ने उत्तर दिया,

2 हे बुद्धिमानो, मेरे वचन सुनो; और हे समझदारों, कान लगाकर मेरी ओर देखो।

3 क्योंकि कान वचनों को वैसे ही परखता है जैसे जीभ भोजन को परखती है।

4 हम अपने लिए जो सही है उसे चुनें; और आपस में जान लें कि क्या अच्छा है।

5 क्योंकि अय्यूब ने कहा, मैं तो धर्मी हूं, परन्तु परमेश्वर ने मेरा न्याय छीन लिया है।

6 मेरे अधिकार के बावजूद, मुझे झूठा समझा जाता है; यद्यपि मैं अपराध से रहित हूं, फिर भी मेरा घाव असाध्य है।

7 अय्यूब के समान कौन मनुष्य है जो ठट्ठा पानी की नाईं पीता है?

8 और जो कुटिल काम करनेवालों की संगति में रहता है, और दुष्टों के संग रहता है?

9 क्योंकि उसने कहा था, कि परमेश्वर में आनन्द मनाने से मनुष्य को कुछ लाभ नहीं।

10 इसलिये हे समझदार पुरूषो, मेरी बात सुनो! परमेश्वर से दुष्टता को, और सर्वशक्तिमान से अधर्म को दूर रखो।

11 क्योंकि मनुष्य के काम के अनुसार वह उसे फल देगा; और हर एक को अपने अपने मार्ग के अनुसार खोज करने देता है।

12 और सच तो यह है कि परमेश्वर दुष्टता से काम नहीं करता; न ही सर्वशक्तिमान न्याय को बिगाड़ता है।

13 तुम्हें पृथ्वी का शासन किसने दिया है? और सारी दुनिया का निपटारा किसने किया?

14 यदि वह मनुष्य के विरुद्ध अपना मन लगाए, और उसके प्राण और आत्मा को अपने वश में कर ले,

15 सब प्राणी एक साथ नाश हो जायेंगे, और मनुष्य मिट्टी में मिल जायेगा।

16 इसलिये यदि तुम समझ रखते हो, तो यह सुनो; मेरे वचन की ओर कान लगाओ।

17 क्या न्याय से घृणा करने वाले को शासन करना चाहिए? और क्या तुम उस व्यक्ति को दोषी ठहराओगे जो न्यायी और शक्तिशाली है?

18 क्या कोई राजा से कहेगा, हाय! बेलियल? या राजकुमारों से: ओह! दुष्ट?

19 जो मनुष्य हाकिमों का पक्ष नहीं करता, और न धनी को निर्धन से अधिक समझता है, क्योंकि ये सब उसके हाथ के काम हैं।

20 वे क्षण भर में मर जाते हैं; और आधी रात तक लोग घबराते रहते हैं, और मर जाते हैं, और बलवान लोग बिना हाथ के पकड़े जाते हैं।

24 वह बिना पूछे ही बलवानों को तोड़ डालता है, और उनके स्थान पर दूसरों को नियुक्त करता है।

25 क्योंकि वह उनके कामों को जानता है; रात में वह उन्हें उलट देता है, और वे कुचल जाते हैं।

26 वह उनको ऐसे दण्ड देता है, जैसे वे देखने वालों की दृष्टि में दुष्ट हैं;

27 क्योंकि वे उससे दूर हो गए और उसके मार्गों में से कुछ भी नहीं समझा;

28 कि वह कंगालों की दोहाई उसके पास पहुंचाए, और दीन लोगों की दोहाई उस तक पहुंचाए।

29 यदि वह चुप रहे तो कौन बाधा डालेगा? यदि वह अपना मुख छिपा ले, तो उसे कौन देख सकेगा, चाहे वह किसी जाति से हो, चाहे किसी एक मनुष्य से?

30 ताकि कोई पाखण्डी राजा न बने, और लोगों में कोई फंदा न हो।

31 सचमुच जो कोई परमेश्वर से कहे, 'मैंने दुख उठाया है, अब मैं पाप नहीं करूंगा';

32 जो मैं नहीं देखता, वह मुझे सिखा; अगर मैंने कुछ ग़लत किया है तो मैं उसे दोबारा कभी नहीं करूँगा।

33 तुझे प्रतिफल कैसे मिलेगा कि तू उसे तुच्छ जाने? फिर, चुनाव आप करेंगे, मैं नहीं; कौन है जो क्या जानता है? वह बोलता है.

34 समझदार लोग मेरे साथ कहेंगे, और बुद्धिमान मनुष्य जो मेरी बात सुनता है,

Elihu Accuses Job of Speaking Unfairly of God

1 Then Elihu answered and said,

2 Hear my words, you wise men; and, you who have understanding, give ear to me.

3 For the ear tests words as the palate tests food.

4 Let us choose what is right for ourselves; and let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 For Job said, "I am righteous, and God has taken away my right."

6 Despite my right, I am found a liar; my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

7 Who is like Job, who drinks mockery like water?

8 Who walks in the company of workers of iniquity, and associates with wicked men?

9 For he said, "It profits a man nothing to delight himself in God." 

10 Therefore, you men of understanding, listen to me. Far be it from God to do wickedness, and from the Almighty to do wickedness! 

11 For according to a man's work he will repay him, and he will cause every man to find according to his way. 

12 And indeed God will not do wickedly, nor will the Almighty pervert justice.

 13 Who has given him the government of the earth? And who has ordained the whole world? 

14 If he should set his heart against man, and should gather to himself his spirit and his breath, 

15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to the dust. 

16 If there is understanding in you, hear this; incline your ear to the voice of my speech. 

17 Should he who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the just and mighty? 

18 Or will they say to a king, "Oh, Belial!" Or to princes, Oh, the wicked!

19 How much less he who shows no partiality to princes, nor esteems the rich more than the poor, for all are the work of his hands!

20 In a moment they die; and at midnight the people are troubled and pass away, and the mighty are taken without hand.

21 For his eyes are on the ways of every man, and he sees all his steps.

22 There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity hide.

23 For a man does not need much consideration to bring him to judgment before God.

24 He breaks down the mighty, without inquiry, and sets others in their place.

25 For he knows their works; in the night he overthrows them, and they are crushed.

26 He strikes them as the wicked in the sight of him who sees them; 

27 Because they have turned away from him, and have not understood any of his ways; 

28 That he might cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and that he might hear the cry of the afflicted.

 29 If he be silent, who then can disturb? If he hide his face, who then can behold him, whether it be for a people, or for one man? 

30 That the hypocrite may never reign, and there be no snare in the people. 

31 Surely he who said to God, "I have suffered, I will sin no more"; 

32 What I do not see, teach me; if I have done anything wicked, I will do it no more. 

33 How shall my recompense come from you, that you should despise it? Therefore, you, and not I, choose; who then is he that knoweth? Speak. 

34 Men of understanding will say with me, and the wise man that heareth me, 

35 Job spoke without knowledge; and his words lack prudence.

36 My father, let Job be tested to the end by his answers, like those of evil men.

37 For he adds transgression to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his arguments against God.

1 Respondeu mais Eliú, e disse:

2 Ouvi, vós, sábios, as minhas razões; e vós, entendidos, inclinai os ouvidos para mim.

3 Porque o ouvido prova as palavras como o paladar prova a comida.

4 O que é direito escolhamos para nós; e conheçamos entre nós o que é bom.

5 Porque Jó disse: Sou justo, e Deus tirou o meu direito.

6 Apesar do meu direito, sou considerado mentiroso; a minha ferida é incurável, embora eu esteja sem transgressão.

7 Que homem há como Jó, que bebe a zombaria como água?

8 E caminha em companhia dos que obram a iniqüidade, e anda com homens ímpios?

9 Porque disse: De nada aproveita ao homem o comprazer-se em Deus.

10 Pelo que vós, homens de entendimento, escutai-me longe de Deus a impiedade, e do Todo-poderoso a perversidade!

11 Porque, segundo a obra do homem, ele lhe paga; e faz que cada um ache segundo o seu caminho.

12 Também, na verdade, Deus não procede impiamente; nem o Todo-poderoso perverte o juízo.

13 Quem lhe entregou o governo da terra? E quem dispôs a todo o mundo?

14 Se ele pusesse o seu coração contra o homem, e recolhesse para si o seu espírito e o seu fôlego,

15 Toda a carne juntamente expiraria, e o homem voltaria para o pó.

16 Se pois há em ti entendimento, ouve isto; inclina os ouvidos à voz do meu discurso.

17 Porventura o que aborrece o direito governaria? E quererás tu condenar aquele que é justo e poderoso?

18 Ou dir-se-á a um rei: Oh! Belial? Ou aos príncipes: Oh! Ímpios?

19 Quanto menos aquele, que não faz acepção das pessoas de príncipes, nem estima o rico mais do que o pobre; porque todos são obra de suas mãos.

20 Eles num momento morrem; e até à meia-noite os povos são perturbados, e passam, e os poderosos são tomados sem mão.

21 Porque os seus olhos estão sobre os caminhos de cada um, e ele vê todos os seus passos.

22 Não há trevas nem sombra de morte, onde se escondam os que obram a iniqüidade.

23 Porque não precisa considerar muito o homem para o fazer ir a juízo diante de Deus.

24 Quebranta os fortes, sem que se possa inquirir, e põe outros em seu lugar.

25 Ele conhece pois as suas obras; de noite os transtorna, e ficam moídos.

26 Ele bate-lhes como ímpios que são à vista de quem os contempla;

27 Porquanto se desviaram dele, e não compreenderam nenhum de seus caminhos;

28 Para fazer que o clamor do pobre subisse até ele, e que ouvisse o clamor dos aflitos.

29 Se ele aquietar, quem então inquietará? Se encobrir o rosto, quem então o poderá contemplar, seja para com um povo, seja para com um homem só?

30 Para que o homem hipócrita nunca reine, e não haja laços no povo.

31 Na verdade, quem disse a Deus: Sofri, não pecarei mais;

32 O que não vejo, ensina-mo tu; se fiz alguma maldade, nunca mais a hei de fazer.

33 Virá de ti como há de ser a recompensa, para que tu a desprezes? Faze tu pois, e não eu, a escolha; quem é logo o que saber? Fala.

34 Os homens de entendimento dirão comigo, e o varão sábio que me ouvir:

35 Jó falou sem ciência; e às suas palavras falta prudência.

36 Pai meu! Provado seja Jó até ao fim, pelas suas respostas próprias de homens malignos.

37 Porque ao seu pecado acrescenta a transgressão; entre nós bate as palmas, e multiplica contra Deus as suas razões.

1 हे अय्यूब, मेरी बात सुन, और मेरे सब वचनों पर कान लगा।

2 देख, मैं ने अपना मुंह खोल दिया है; पहले से ही मेरे तालू के नीचे मेरी जीभ बोली।

3 मेरे वचन मेरे हृदय की सच्चाई से निकलेंगे, और मेरे होठों से शुद्ध ज्ञान निकलेगा।

4 परमेश्वर की आत्मा ने मुझे बनाया, और सर्वशक्तिमान की प्रेरणा ने मुझे जीवन दिया।

5 यदि आप कर सकते हैं, तो मुझे उत्तर दें, अपना मामला स्पष्ट रूप से बताएं, और खड़े हो जाएं।

19 वह अपने बिस्तर पर पीड़ा से दण्डित है, और उसकी हड्डियाँ लगातार संघर्ष कर रही हैं;

26 वह परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करेगा, और वह उससे प्रसन्न होगा, और आनन्द से उसका मुख देखेगा, और मनुष्य को उसका धर्म फेर देगा।

27 वह मनुष्यों को देखकर कहेगा, 'मैंने पाप किया है और न्याय को बिगाड़ा है, और इससे मुझे कोई लाभ नहीं हुआ।'

Elihu Accuses Job of Opposing God and Misunderstanding His Ways

1 Now therefore, O Job, hear my speech, and give ear to all my words.

2 Behold, I have opened my mouth; my tongue has spoken under my roof.

3 My speech shall come from the sincerity of my heart, and pure knowledge from my lips.

4 The Spirit of God made me, and the inspiration of the Almighty gave me life.

5 If you are able, answer me; set forth your speech well, and arise.

6 Behold, I came from God, as you are; out of the clay I was taken.

7 Behold, my terror shall not terrify you, nor shall my hand be heavy upon you.

8 Surely you have spoken in my ears, and I have heard the voice of your words:

9 You said, I am clean, without transgression; I am pure; and I am without guilt.

10 Behold, he finds occasions against me, and has counted me as his enemy.

11 He puts my feet in the stocks, and watches all my paths.

12 Behold, in this I answer you: You have not been righteous, for God is greater than man.

13 Why do you strive with him? Because he gives no account of any of his works.

14 But God speaks once and twice, but no one considers.

15 In a dream or in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, and they slumber in bed,

16 Then he opens the ears of men, and seals up his instruction,

17 To turn man away from his counsel, and hide pride from man;

18 To turn back their soul from the pit, and their life from perishing by the sword.

19 He is punished with pain also on his bed, and with the unceasing strife of his bones; 

20 So that his life abhors even bread, and his soul dainty food. 

21 His flesh is gone before our eyes, and his bones, which were not seen, are now visible; 

22 His soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the bringer of death. 

23 If there is with him a messenger, an interpreter, one among thousands, to show man his righteousness,

 24 Then he will have mercy on him, and will say to him, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.'

 25 His flesh will be fresher than in his childhood, and he will return to the days of his youth. 

26 He will pray to God, and he will be pleased with him, and he will see his face with joy, and he will restore to man his righteousness.

 27 He will look upon men and say, 'I have sinned and perverted justice, and it did not profit me.' 

28 But God has delivered my soul from going to the pit, and my life will see the light.

29 Behold, all this is the work of God, twice and thrice with man,

30 To bring back his soul from destruction, and to enlighten him with the light of the living.

31 Hearken, O Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak.

32 If you have anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you.

33 If not, hearken thou unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.

2 Eis que já abri a minha boca; já falou a minha língua debaixo do meu paladar.

3 As minhas razões sairão da sinceridade do meu coração, e a pura ciência dos meus lábios.

4 O Espírito de Deus me fez, e a inspiração do Todo-poderoso me deu vida.

5 Se podes, responde-me, dispõe bem as tuas razões, e levanta-te.

6 Eis que vim de Deus, como tu; do lodo também eu fui formado.

7 Eis que não te perturbará o meu terror, nem será pesada sobre ti a minha mão.

8 Na verdade tu falaste aos meus ouvidos, e eu ouvi a voz das tuas palavras; dizias:

9 Limpo estou, sem transgressão; puro sou; e não tenho culpa.

10 Eis que ele acha contra mim ocasiões, e me considerou como seu inimigo.

11 Põe no tronco os meus pés, e observa todas as minhas veredas.

12 Eis que nisto te respondo: Não foste justo; porque maior é Deus do que o homem.

13 Por que razão contendes com ele? Porque ele não dá contas de nenhum dos seus feitos.

14 Antes Deus fala uma e duas vezes; porém ninguém atenta para isso.

15 Em sonho ou em visão de noite, quando cai sono profundo sobre os homens, e adormecem na cama,

16 Então abre os ouvidos dos homens, e lhes sela a sua instrução,

17 Para apartar o homem do seu desígnio, e esconder do homem a soberba;

18 Para desviar a sua alma da cova, e a sua vida de passar pela espada.

19 Também na sua cama é com dores castigado, e com a incessante contenda dos seus ossos;

20 De modo que a sua vida abomina até o pão, e a sua alma a comida apetecível.

21 Desaparece a sua carne a olhos vistos, e os seus ossos, que se não viam, agora aparecem;

22 E a sua alma se vai chegando à cova, e a sua vida ao que traz a morte.

23 Se com ele pois houver um mensageiro, um intérprete, um entre milhares, para declarar ao homem a sua retidão,

24 Então terá misericórdia dele, e lhe dirá: Livra-o, que não desça a cova; já achei resgate.

25 Sua carne se reverdecerá mais do que na sua infância, e tornará aos dias da sua juventude.

26 Deveras orará a Deus, que se agradará dele, e verá a sua face com júbilo, e restituirá ao homem a sua justiça.

27 Olhará para os homens, e dirá: Pequei, e perverti o direito, o que de nada me aproveitou.

28 Mas Deus livrou a minha alma de ir para a cova; e a minha vida verá a luz.

29 Eis que tudo isto é obra de Deus, duas e três vezes para com o homem,

30 Para desviar a sua alma da perdição, e o alumiar com a luz dos viventes.

31 Escuta pois, ó Jó, ouve-me; cala-te, e eu falarei.

32 Se tens alguma coisa que dizer, responde-me; fala, porque desejo justificar-te.

33 Se não, escuta-me tu; cala-te, e ensinar-te-ei a sabedoria.

8 निश्चय ही मनुष्य में आत्मा है, और सर्वशक्तिमान की प्रेरणा से मनुष्य समझ प्राप्त करता है।

9 बड़े लोग बुद्धिमान नहीं होते, और न बूढ़े लोग सही बात समझते हैं।

10 इसलिये मैं कहता हूं, मेरी बात सुनो, और मैं भी अपना विचार बता चुका हूं।

1 Then the three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

2 Then Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was angered; his anger was kindled against Job, because he justified himself more than God.

3 His anger was also kindled against his three friends, because they could not find an answer, yet they condemned Job.

4 But Elihu waited to speak to Job, because they were older than he.

5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men, his anger was kindled.

6 Then Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, "I am younger, and you are older; I was afraid and afraid to tell you my opinion." 

7 I said, "Let days speak, and multitude of years teach wisdom."

 8 Surely there is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. 

9 Great men are not wise, nor do old men understand what is right. 

10 Therefore I say, "Listen to me, and I have also declared my opinion."

 11 Behold, I have waited for your words, and have given ear to your arguments, until you sought out reasons. 

12 When I consider you, behold, there is not one of you who can convince Job, or answer his arguments. 

13 Lest you say, "We have found wisdom; God has overthrown him, and not man." 

14 Now he has not spoken a word against me, nor will I answer him with your words. 

15 They are astonished, they no longer answer; their words fail them. 

16 So I waited, but they did not speak; for they have stopped and do not answer.

17 I will also answer for myself; I will also declare my opinion.

18 For I am full of words; my spirit constrains me.

19 Behold, my belly is like wine without vent; it will burst like new wineskins.

20 I will speak and breathe; I will open my lips and answer.

21 Oh that I were not partial or flattering with man!

22 For I do not know how to flatter; my servants would soon take me away.

14 Ora ele não dirigiu contra mim palavra alguma, nem lhe responderei com as vossas palavras.

15 Estão pasmados, não respondem mais, faltam-lhes as palavras.

16 Esperei pois, mas não falam; porque já pararam, e não respondem mais.

17 Também eu responderei pela minha parte; também eu declararei a minha opinião.

18 Porque estou cheio de palavras; o meu espírito me constrange.

19 Eis que o meu ventre é como o mosto, sem respiradouro, e virá a arrebentar, como odres novos.

20 Falarei, e respirarei; abrirei os meus lábios, e responderei.

21 Oxalá eu não faça acepção de pessoas, nem use de lisonjas com o homem!

1 I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look upon a virgin?

2 For what is the portion of God from above, or the inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

3 Is not destruction to the wicked, and destruction to those who do iniquity?

4 Does he not see my ways, and count all my steps?

5 If I have walked in vanity, and if my foot has hastened to deceit,

6 (Let him weigh me in the balances of truth, and God will know my integrity);

7 If my steps have turned out of the way, and if my heart has followed my eyes, and if anything has taken hold of my hands,

8 Then let me sow, and another eat, and let my offspring be plucked up by the roots.

 9 If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door, 

10 then let my wife be crushed for another, and let others bow down over her. 

11 For that would be an infamous thing, and an offense to be dealt with by the judges. 

12 For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and it would destroy all my income. 

13 If I have despised the right of my manservant or my maidservant when they contended with me, 

14 then what should I do when God arises? And when he inquires into the matter, what should I answer him? 

15 Did not he who formed me in the womb make them? Or did he not also form us in the womb? 

16 If I have withheld what the poor desired, or caused the widow's eyes to fail; 

17 Or have I eaten only my morsel, and the fatherless has not eaten thereof;

18 (For from my youth he grew up with me, as with his father; and I have guided him from my mother's womb);

19 If I have seen any perish for lack of clothing, and the needy for lack of covering;

20 If his loins have not blessed me, if he has not been warmed with the skins of my lambs;

21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate;

22 Then my shoulder shall fall from my shoulder, and my arm shall be broken from the bone.

23 For the chastening of God was a terror to me, and I could not bear its greatness.

24 If I have put my hope in gold, or said to fine gold, "You are my trust;" 

25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

30 (I also did not let my palate sin, wishing his death with a curse); 

31 If the people of my tent did not say, "Ah, who has not been satisfied with his meat!" 

32 The stranger did not spend the night in the street; I opened my gates to the traveler; 

33 If, like Adam, I covered my transgressions, hiding my sin in my bosom;

 34 Let me tremble before a great multitude, and let the contempt of families terrify me, and let me be silent, and not go out of the door.

35 Oh, that one might hear me! Behold, my purpose is that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary would write a book.

36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, I would bind it upon me as a crown.

37 I would show him the number of my steps; I would come to him as a prince.

38 If my land cries out against me, and its furrows mourn together;

39 If I have eaten its increase without money, and choked the soul of its owners.

40 Let thistles bring forth instead of wheat, and tares instead of barley. The words of Job are finished.

1 But now those younger than I have laughed at me, whose fathers I would have disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.

2 What good is the strength of their hands? They have wasted away from old age.

12 The young men stand up on the right hand; they push my feet, and prepare their ways of destruction against me.

13 They have broken up my way; they have brought about my misery, a nation without a helper.

14 They come against me as through a great breach, and they roll about in the midst of the desolation.

15 Terrors have come upon me; they pursue my glory like a wind, and my goodness has passed away like a cloud.

16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold of me.

17 In the night my bones are pierced, and the evil that eats away at me does not rest.

18 Because of the great force of my evil my garment has been changed, which girds me like the vesture of my robe.

19 He has cast me into the mire, and I am like dust and ashes.

20 I cry to you, but you do not answer; I stand, but you do not regard me.

21 You have become cruel to me; with the strength of your hand you resist me violently.

22 You lift me up upon the wind, you make me ride upon it, and you melt my being.

23 For I know that you will bring me to the mountain, to the house of assembly for all living. 

24 But will he not stretch out his hand to a heap of earth, if there be a cry upon it in his distress?

25 Have I not wept over him that was afflicted? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?

26 Yet when I looked for good, behold, evil came upon me; and when I looked for light, darkness came.

27 My bowels seethe, and are not quiet; the days of affliction have overtaken me.

28 I walk in darkness, but not in the sun; when I stand in the congregation, I cry for help.

29 I have become a brother to dragons, a companion to ostriches.

30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.

31 Therefore my harp is turned into lamentation, and my organ into the voice of them that mourn.

1 Then Job continued his parable, and said:

2 Oh, that I were as I was in the months of old, as in the days when God preserved me!

3 When he made his lamp shine upon my head, and I walked by his light through darkness;

4 As in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tent;

5 When the Almighty was with me, and my children were round about me;

6 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock ran down for me with streams of oil;

7 When I went out to the gate of the city, and prepared my seat in the street;

8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves; and the aged rose up and stood;

9 The princes restrained their words, and laid their hands upon their mouths;

10 The voice of the rulers was hidden, and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths.

11 When the ear heard me, it considered me blessed; when the eye saw me, it testified to me.

12 For I delivered the poor who cried out, and the fatherless who had no one to help him.

13 The blessing of him who was ready to perish came upon me, and I made the widow's heart sing for joy.

14 I clothed myself with righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a diadem.

15 I was an eye to the blind, and feet to the lame.

16 I was a father to the needy, and I searched out cases that I knew not.

17 I broke the jawbones of the wicked, and plucked the prey from his teeth. 

18 And I said, I will give up my life in my nest, and multiply my days like the sand.

19 My root spread out by the waters, and the dew sat upon my branches;

20 My glory was renewed in me, and my bow was strengthened in my hand.

21 They waited for me, and kept silent in my counsel.

22 When my word was finished, they did not answer, and my words dropped upon them.

23 For they waited for me as for the rain, and opened their mouths as for the late rain.

24 When I laughed at them, they did not believe it; they did not dim the light of my countenance.

25 When I chose their way, I sat as a captain, and dwelt as a king among their troops, as one who comforts those who mourn.

9 He stretches out his hand against the rock, and shakes the mountains from their roots.

10 He brings out rivers from the rocks, and his eye discovers every precious thing.

12 But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

13 Man does not know its value; it is not found in the land of the living.

14 The deep says, "It is not in me," and the sea says, "It is not with me."

15 Fine gold cannot be given for it, nor can silver be weighed for its price.

16 It cannot be valued for the gold of Ophir, or for the precious onyx or the sapphire.

17 Gold or crystal cannot compare with it, nor can it be exchanged for an ornament of fine gold.

18 It causes coral and pearls to be forgotten; For the price of wisdom is better than rubies.

19 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot be compared to it, nor can it be valued with pure gold.

20 Whence then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

21 For it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the birds of the air.

22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears.

23 God understands its way, and he knows its place.

24 For he sees the ends of the earth; he beholds all that is under the heavens.
