The debts and rights of the priests, and the Levites

1 And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou, and thy sons, and thy father's house with thee, shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary upon you: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood upon you.

2 And thou shalt bring with thee unto thy brethren the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, that they may come unto thee, and serve thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall stand before the tabernacle of witness.

3 And he shall be thy keeper, the keeper of all the tabernacle: but they shall not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary, and to the altar, that they die not, both you and them.

4 But they shall be gathered unto thee, and shall keep the tabernacle of the congregation in all the service of the tabernacle; and the stranger shall not come near to you.

5 And ye shall do the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar; lest there be wrath upon the children of Israel.

6 And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites out of the midst of the children of Israel: to you it is given as a gift from the Lord to minister the ministry of the tabernacle of the congregation.

7 But you and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood in all the business of the altar, and in that which is in the veil, you shall administer: I have given your priesthood in a ministerial gift, and the stranger that comes near shall die.

8 And the LORD said unto Aaron, And I, behold, I have given thee the charge of my heave-offerings, with all the holy things of the children of Israel; because of the anointing I have given to you and to your children for a perpetual statute.

9 And you shall have of the most holy things of the fire: all your gifts, with all their meat offerings, and with all their atonement for sin, and with all their atonement for guilt, to give me back, shall be most holy to you, and for your children.

10 In the most holy place shalt thou eat it: every man shall eat it; holiness will be for you.

11 This also shall be thine; the heave-offering of his gifts, and all the offerings of the children of Israel; I have made them a perpetual statute for you, your sons, and your daughters with you ; everyone who is clean in your house shall eat them.

12 All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine and the corn, and the firstfruits of the firstfruits which I give to the LORD I have given to you.

13 The first fruits of all that are in the land, which they bring to the LORD, shall be thine;everyone who is clean in your house shall eat them.

14 All the consecrated things in Israel shall be yours.

15 Whosoever shall open the womb of all flesh, which they bring unto the LORD, both of man and of beast, shall be thine; but the firstborn of men you shall redeem; and the firstlings of unclean animals shall you redeem.

16 And those who are to be redeemed from them, from the age of one month, according to your estimation, five shekels of money according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.

17 But the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem: they shall be holy: thou shalt sprinkle its blood upon the altar, and its fat shalt thou burn with a burnt offering of a sweet savor unto the LORD.

18 And their flesh shall be thine, even as the breast of movement, and the right shoulder, shall be thine.

19 All the offerings of holiness, which the children of Israel shall offer unto the LORD, I have given unto thee, and to thy sons, and to thy daughters with thee, by a perpetual statute: a perpetual covenant of salt before the Lord is for thee and for your seed with you.

20 And the LORD said unto Aaron, In thy land thou shalt not possess any , and in the midst of them thou shalt have no part: I am thy portion, and thy inheritance among the children of Israel.

21 And behold, the children of Levi have given all the tithes of Israel for an inheritance, for their service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

22 And the children of Israel shall no more come near to the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.

23 But the Levites shall minister the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: for ever shall they be a statute throughout your generations , and in the midst of the children of Israel shall they inherit no inheritance.

24 For the tithes of the children of Israel, which they have offered to Jehovah for an heave offering, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance: because I said unto them, Among the children of Israel shall they inherit no inheritance .

25 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

26 And thou shalt speak unto the Levites, and thou shalt say unto them, When ye shall receive the tithes of the children of Israel, which I have given unto them of your inheritance, of them ye shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD; the tithes of tithes.

27 And your offering shall be told unto you, as the grain of the threshingfloor, and as the fulness of the winepress.

28 And you shall offer to the LORD a heave offering of all your tithes, which you shall receive from the children of Israel, and you shall give them the heave-offering of the LORD to Aaron the priest.

29 Of all your gifts ye shall offer up all the heave-offering of Jehovah: of the best of them, his holy part.

30 And thou shalt say unto them, When ye shall offer the best of them, as the new thing of the winepress, the Levites shall be numbered.

31 And ye shall eat it in all place, ye and your house; for your reward is for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.

32 Therefore you shall not bear sin over them, when you shall offer them the best; and you shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, that ye die not.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take a rod for every paternal house of all their princes, according to the house of their fathers twelve rods; and write the name of every one upon his rod.
3 But the name of Aaron shall you write upon the rod of Levi; for every head of the house of his fathers shall have a rod.
4 And thou shalt put them in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will come unto you.
5 And it shall come to pass, that the rod of the man which I have chosen shall blossom; so will I make the murmurings of the children of Israel cease against me, wherewith they murmur against you.
6 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel; and all his princes gave him every man a rod, for every man that was a rod, according to the house of his fathers; twelve rods; and the rod of Aaron was among his rods.
7 And Moses laid these rods before Jehovah in the tabernacle of witness.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and, behold, the rod of Aaron in the house of Levi was blossoming; because he had brought forth flowers, and sprouted shoots, and gave forth almonds.
9 And Moses brought all the rods before the LORD unto all the children of Israel; and they saw him, and took every man his rod.
10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Put again the rod of Aaron before the testimony, that it be kept for a sign unto the rebellious children: and thou shalt make their murmurings against me, and they shall not die.
11 And Moses did so; as the Lord had commanded, so he did.
12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.
13 Everyone who approaches the tabernacle of the Lord will die: shall we all be consumed?

1 And Korah the son of Giza the son of Kohath the son of Levi took with him Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab and Om the son of Peleth, the sons of Reuben.

2 And they rose up before Moses with two hundred and fifty men of the children of Israel, chief of the congregation, called to the gathering, men named.

3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, It is too many now, for all the congregation is holy, and they are all holy: and the LORD is among them: wherefore lift ye up upon the congregation of the LORD?

4 As Moses heard this, it fell upon his face,

5 And he spoke to Korah and to all his congregation, saying, "In the morning the LORD will make known to you who is his, and whom the holy one he will bring to himself: Whom he chooses will bring him to himself.

6 Do this: take ye censers, Korah and all his congregation;

7 And set fire to them tomorrow, and lay incense upon them before the LORD: and it shall come to pass, the children of Levi, that the man whom the LORD hath chosen shall be holy.

8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear now the sons of Levi:

9 Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel separated you from the congregation of Israel to bring you near to do the ministry of the tabernacle of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister to him,

10 And he brought thee in, and all thy brethren the children of Levi, with thee; Are you still seeking the priesthood?

11 Therefore you and all your congregation are gathered together against the Lord; and Aaron, which is he, murmur against him?

12 And Moses sent and called for Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: but they said, We shall not go up;

13 Have you brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but are you also in full possession of us?

14 Thou hast not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us fields and vineyards for inheritance; will you draw out the eyes of these men? We will not go up.

15 And Moses was very angry, and said unto the LORD, Take no thought for his offering; I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I afflicted any of them.

16 And Moses said unto Korah, Thou and all thy congregation stand before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow.

17 And take every man his censer, and put incense thereon; and bring every man his censer before Jehovah, two hundred and fifty censers; thou and Aaron, every man his censer.

18 And they took every man his censer, and set fire thereon, and put incense thereon, and stood before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; Then the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.

20 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 Depart from the midst of this congregation, and I will consume them as in a moment.

22 But they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and be angry with all this congregation?

23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Speak to all the congregation, saying, "Rise up around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25 And Moses arose, and went to Dathan and Abiram: and after him the elders of Israel.

26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart ye, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye perish in all their sins.

27 And they arose from round about the habitation of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. And Dathan and Abiram went forth, and stood at the door of their tents, and their wives, and their children, and their children.

28 And Moses said, By this shall ye know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these deeds, which do not of my heart.

29 If they die as all men die, and if they are visited as all men visit, then the Lord has not sent me.

30 But if the LORD shall create a new thing, and the earth open his mouth, and swallow them up with all that is his, and let them come down alive into the sepulcher, then shall ye know that these men have provoked the LORD.

31 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the land that was under them was rent.

32 And the earth opened their mouth, and swallowed them up with their houses, and all the men that were of Korah, and all their substance.

33 And they and all that were of them went down alive into the sepulcher, and the earth covered them, and perished from the midst of the congregation.

34 And all Israel that were round about them fled from their cry; because they said, Lest the land also swallow us up.

35 And the fire of the Lord went forth, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

36 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

37 Say to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take the censers from the midst of the fire, and scatter the fire far off, for they are holy;

38 As for the censers of them that have sinned against their souls, let them be made of them, and let them be spread out for the covering of the altar; because they brought them before the LORD;therefore they shall be holy unto the children of Israel.

39 And Eleazar the priest took the censers of brass, which brought those that were burned, and spread them for the covering of the altar,

40 For a memorial for the children of Israel, that there should no stranger that is not of the seed of Aaron come near to burn incense before the LORD; lest he be like Korah and his congregation as the Lord had spoken to him by the mouth of Moses.

41 And on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord.

42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered together against Moses and against Aaron, and turning to the tabernacle of the congregation, behold, the cloud overshadowed it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.

43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

44 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

45 Arise from the midst of this congregation, and I will consume it as in a moment: then they fell upon their faces,

46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take thy censer, and put fire therein from the altar, and put incense upon it, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make atonement for them: for great wrath is gone out from before the LORD; The plague has begun.

47 And Aaron took it, as Moses had spoken, and ran in the midst of the congregation; and behold, the plague had begun among the people; and put incense thereon, and made atonement for the people.

48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague ceased.

49 And those who died of the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, except those who died because of Korah.

50 And Aaron returned unto Moses at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the plague ceased.

35 Então saiu fogo do Senhor, e consumiu os duzentos e cinqüenta homens que ofereciam o incenso.
36 E falou o Senhor a Moisés, dizendo:
37 Dize a Eleazar, filho de Arão, o sacerdote, que tome os incensários do meio do incêndio, e espalhe o fogo longe, porque santos são;

43 Vieram pois Moisés e Arão perante a tenda da congregação.
44 Então falou o Senhor a Moisés, dizendo:
45 Levantai-vos do meio desta congregação, e a consumirei como num momento: então se prostaram sobre os seus rostos,
46 E disse Moisés a Arão: Toma o teu incensário, e póe nele fogo do altar, e deita incenso sobre ele, e vai depressa à congregação, e faze expiação por eles: porque grande indignação saiu de diante do Senhor; já começou a praga.

3 And make an offering made by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice, to keep a vow, or a voluntary offering, or your solemn feasts, to the LORD to make a sweet savor of sheep or cows;
4 And he that offereth his offering to the LORD shall offer a tenth of fine flour mixed with a fourth part of a hin of oil for a meat offering.
5 And thou shalt prepare the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink offering, for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice for every lamb:

8 And when thou shalt prepare a bullock for a burnt-offering or for a sacrifice, to fulfill a vow, or a peace-offer unto the LORD,
9 With the bullock you shall offer an offering of three tenth parts of fine flour mixed with half a hin of olive oil.
10 And thou shalt offer a half of a hin of wine for the drink offering, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
11 So shall it be done to every bullock, or to every ram, or to the cattle of the lambs or goats.
12 According to the number which ye shall offer, so shall ye do unto every man according to their number.
13 And he shall do these things iniquity, offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
14 And if a stranger sojourn with you, or is among you in your generations, and he offereth a burnt offering of a sweet savor unto the LORD, as ye do, so shall he do.
15 A same statute shall be for you, O congregation, and for the stranger that sojourneth among you, a statute for ever throughout your generations; like you, so shall the sojourner be before the Lord.
16 The same law and the same law shall be for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you.
17 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
18 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land whither I will bring you in,
19 And it shall come to pass, when ye eat of the bread of the land, then ye shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD.
20 Of the first of your dough ye shall offer a cake for an heave offering: as the meal offering, so ye shall offer.
21 From the first fruits of your generations ye shall give unto Jehovah an heave offering in your generations.
22 And when ye shall err and not do all these commandments, which the LORD spake unto Moses,
23 All that Jehovah hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day which the LORD hath commanded, and from thence on in your generations;
24 And it shall come to pass, when any thing is done in error, and it is hid from the eyes of the congregation, that the whole congregation shall offer a young bullock for a burnt offering, a sweet savor unto the LORD; with his meat offering and his drink offering according to the statute, and one male goat for a sin offering.
25 And the priest shall make atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it was an error, and they brought their offering, an offering made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, because of their error.
26 And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them: for in all the people came the wrong.
27 And if any soul sin in error, he shall offer a she-goat a year old for a sin offering.
28 And the priest shall make atonement for the sinful soul, when he sinneth in error before Jehovah, and makes atonement for it, and it shall be forgiven him.
29 To the man of the children of Israel, and to the stranger that sojourneth among them, the same law shall be to you, that he may do this in error.
30 But the soul that doeth any thing by the hand raised, whether of the natural or of the stranger, reproacheth the Lord: and such a soul shall be cut off from the midst of his people,
31 For he hath despised the word of Jehovah, and hath made void of his commandment: the soul shall be utterly cut off, and her iniquity shall be upon her.
32 And when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day.
33 And those who found gathering wood brought him to Moses and to Aaron, and to all the congregation.
34 And they put him on his guard; for it was not yet declared what should be done to him.

15 Um mesmo estatuto haja para vós, ó congregação, e para o estrangeiro que entre vós peregrina, por estatuto perpétuo nas vossas gerações; como vós, assim será o peregrino perante o Senhor.
16 Uma mesma lei e um mesmo direito haverá para vós e para o estrangeiro que peregrina convosco.
17 Falou mais o Senhor a Moisés, dizendo:
18 Fala aos filhos de Israel, e dize-lhes: Quando entrardes na terra em que vos hei de meter,
19 Acontecerá que, quando comerdes do pão da terra, então oferecereis ao Senhor oferta alçada.
20 Das primícias da vossa massa oferecereis um bolo em oferta alçada: como a oferta da eira, assim oferecereis.

32 Estando pois os filhos de Israel no deserto, acharam um homem apanhando lenha no dia de sábado.

27 How long shall I suffer this evil congregation, which murmureth against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, with which they murmur against me.
28 Say unto them, Thus I live, saith the Lord, that as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do unto you.
29 And your carcases shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you twenty years and above, which were utterly murmured among you among you;
30 Do not go into the land where I lifted up my hand that would make you dwell there, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 But your children, of whom ye say, They shall be a prey; and they shall know of the land which ye have despised.
32 But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in the wilderness.
33 And your children shall trespass in the wilderness forty years, and bear your infidelities, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness.
34 According to the number of days when you have spied out this land, forty days, for each day a year, you shall bear your iniquities forty years, and you shall know my apartment.

1 And all the congregation arose, and lifted up their voice: and the people wept that night.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and all the congregation said unto him, Ah! if we had died in the land of Egypt! or, oh if we had died in the desert!
3 And why does the LORD bring us into this land, that we may fall by the sword, and that our wives and children may be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?
4 And they said one to another, Let us raise up a captain, and let us return to Egypt.
5 And Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, they that searched the land, tore their clothes.
7 And they spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land by which we have come to spy is a very good land.
8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us: a land flowing with milk and honey.
9 Only be ye not rebellious against Jehovah, and fear not the people of the land, for they are our bread: their beloved is departed from them, and Jehovah is with us; do not fear them.
10 And all the congregation said, that they should stone them with stones: but the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation unto all the children of Israel.
11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long shall this people provoke me? and how long will they not believe me for all the signs that I have done among them?
12 I will smite him with pestilence, and reject him: and I will make thee a greater and mightier people than this.
13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Thus shall the Egyptians hear; for with thy strength didst thou bring up this people among them.
14 And they shall tell the inhabitants of this land, that they have heard that thou, O Lord, art in the midst of this people, that they appear face to face, O Lord, to appear unto them, that thy cloud is upon them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 And if you slay this people as one man, then the people, who have heard your fame, will speak, saying,
16 For the Lord could not put this people in the land which he had sworn to them; therefore he slew them in the wilderness.
17 Now therefore, I beseech thee, let the strength of my Lord be great; as you have spoken, saying,
18 The LORD is longsuffering and full of mercy, and he forgives iniquity and transgression, which the guilty person does not hold innocent, and visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.
19 Therefore forgive the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of thy mercy: and as thou also hast forgiven this people from the land of Egypt unto this time.
20 And the LORD said, I have forgiven thee according to thy word.
21 But as surely as I live, the glory of the Lord shall fill the whole earth.
22 And all the men who saw my glory and my signs, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and tempted me these ten times, and they obeyed not my voice.
23 They shall not see the land which I have sworn unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoke me see it.
24 But to my servant Caleb, because there is another spirit in him, and he hath followed me, I will bring him into the land where he went in, and his seed shall inherit it.
25 And the Amalekites, and the Canaanites, hailstorm in the valley: turn ye to morrow, and walk into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

Os israelitas querem voltar para o Egito

1 Então levantou-se toda a congregação, e alçaram a sua voz: e o povo chorou naquela mesma noite.
2 E todos os filhos de Israel murmuraram contra Moisés e contra Arão; e toda a congregação lhe disse: Ah! se morrêramos na terra do Egito! ou, ah se morrêramos no deserto!
3 E por que traz o Senhor a esta terra, para caimos à espada, e para que nossas mulheres e nossas crianças sejam por presa? Não nos seria melhor voltarmos ao Egito?
4 E diziam uns aos outros: Levantemos um capitão, e voltemos ao Egito.
5 Então Moisés e Arão caíram sobre os seus rostos perante todo o ajuntamento dos filhos de Israel.
6 E Josué, filho de Num, e Calebe, filho de Jefoné, dos que espiaram a terra, rasgaram os seus vestidos.
7 E falaram a toda congregação dos filhos de Israel, dizendo: A terra pelo meio da qual passamos a espiar é terra muito boa.
8 Se o Senhor se agradar de nós, então nos porá nesta terra, e no-la dará: terra que mana leite e mel.
9 Tão-somente não sejais rebeldes contra o Senhor, e não temais o povo desta terra, porquanto são eles nosso pão: retirou-se deles o seu amaparo, e o Senhor é conosco; não os temais.
10 Então disse toda a congregação que os apedrejassem com pedras: porém a glória do Senhor apareceu na tenda da congregação a todos os filhos de Israel.
11 E disse o Senhor a Moisés: Até quando me provocará este povo? e até quando me não crerão por todos os sinais que fiz no meio deles?
12 Com pestilência o ferirei, e o rejeitarei: e farei de ti povo maior e mais forte que este.
13 E disse Moisés ao Senhor: Assim os egípcios o ouvirão; porquanto com a tua força fizeste subir este povo no meio deles.
14 E o dirão aos moradores desta terra, que ouviram que tu, ó Senhor, estás no meio deste povo, que de cara a cara, ó Senhor, lhes apareces, que tua nuvem está sobre eles, e que vais adiante deles numa coluna de nuvem de dia, e numa coluna de fogo a noite.
15 E se matares este povo como a um só homem, as gentes pois, que ouviram a tua fama, falarão, dizendo:
16 Porquanto o Senhor não podia pôr este povo na terra que lhes tinha jurado; por isso os matou no deserto.
17 Agora, pois rogo-te que a força do meu Senhor se engrandeça; como tens falado, dizendo:
18 O Senhor é longânimo, e grande em beneficência, que perdoa a iniqüidade e a transgressão, que o culpado não têm por inocente, e visita a iniqüidade dos pais sobre os filhos até à terceira e quarta geração.
19 Perdoa pois a iniqüidade deste povo, segundo a grandeza da tua benignidade: e como também perdoaste a este povo desde a terra do Egito até aqui.
20 E disse o Senhor: Conforme a tua palavra lhe perdoei.
21 Porém tão certamente como eu vivo, que a glória do Senhor encherá toda a terra.
22 E que todos os homens que viram a minha glória e os meus sinais, que fiz no Egito e no deserto, e me tentaram estas dez vezes, e não obedeceram à minha voz.
23 Não verão a terra de que a seus pais jurei, e até nenhum daqueles que me provocaram a verá.
24 Porém a meu servo Calebe, porquanto nele houve outro espírito, e perseverou em seguir-me, eu o levarei à terra em que entrou, e a sua semente a possuirá em herança.
25 E os amalequitas e os cananeus haitam no vale: tornai-vos amanhã, e caminhai para o deserto pelo caminho do Mar Vermelho.
