Samuel exhorts repentance

2 And it came to pass that, from that day, the ark remained in Kiriath-Jearim, and so many days passed that they reached up to twenty years, and the whole house of Israel after the Lord mourned.

3 Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, If you turn to the Lord with all your heart, take away the strange gods and the astars, and prepare your heart for the Lord, and serve him alone, and he will deliver you. from the hand of the Philistines.

4 Then the children of Israel took the Baals and the Astarotes from among themselves, and served the Lord alone.

5 Samuel said, "Gather all Israel in Mizpah: and I will pray for you to the Lord."

6 And they came together in Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted that day, and said there, We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.
